      Because karate is Japanese, like the motorcycle.

    The guy with the dark and light brown sweater broke Elvis' eyebrow at exactly 0.29 into the clip, Since this scene was not amongst the first shot, and there was no time for a re-shoot, as Elvis was really hurt by the guy's inadvertant blow, this forced the producers to come up with a scene where it would allow for the Elvis character to continue the shoot but this time using a band-aid. So, they thought up of some kind of motorcycle crash scene, which was not in the screenplay.

      I could imagine, especially in California where vain haughty types look down on Southerners.

    The first guy Elvis hits is Norm Grabowski, he was in a lot of Disney movies in the 60's.

    Besides "Roustabout", I think Elvis also used karate in "Blue Hawaii", "Tickle Me", "Girl Happy", and "It Happened At The World's Fair."

      He used karate whenever he could, even in his on stage antics later on. He loved karate.

      @@briank1977 yes, and I forgot to mention "Follow That Dream" and "Double Trouble."
      He also gave Bill "Superfoot" Wallace a karate studio as a gift.

    @guitarttimman yep, kenpo, he also studied Tae Kwon Do I believe, he was working on a karate movie before he died, shame that wasn't finished

      And he trained Shotokan first, while stationed in Germany. That was his first exposure to karate.

    I love Elvis teaching these smart alecs a lesson. I wish this scene was a little longer too.
    Larry Wilcox had a number of similar scenes on ChiPs, such as disabling a Bike Gang member who tried to stab him with a switch blade and teaching hoodlums a lesson for sitting on his Mini Cooper after playing a basketball game.

    • @Shanethefilmmaker
      @Shanethefilmmaker 7 лет назад +4

      What part of in real life don't you understand. This is a movie of course they're gonna muck it up. If Elivis was really gonna use Karate in it, those three would have gotten more than just knocked down .

    • @Penandroll
      @Penandroll 7 лет назад

      No they wouldnt have...and by real life...i meant the videos in which he is apparently "teaching" "karate"...you know...those videos in which hes wearing the red and White outfit....with his funky glasses and high as hell.
      He was the King and everything...had many talents...but karate wasnt one of then. A drug addict with an obvious eating disorder is far from having what it takes to be a black belt in any martial art. It takes years and dedication to reach that level. He may have known some moves but thats it...thats not just an opinión, its more tan evident

    • @Shanethefilmmaker
      @Shanethefilmmaker 7 лет назад +5

      First off he wasn't teaching he was demonstrating. And even then he's a showman first and a martial artist second. He probably showed what he thought would entertain the people watching. Lest you forget he incorporated Karate into his dance routine during his early concert routines. As an entertainer, he'd know if he made it look more appealing, it would get more people interested in the Arts themselves. You could say he was advertising Karate.
      Second of all, he's not the only drug addict that's adept in martial arts. Robert Downey Jr. ring any bells, even during his blow days he practiced Wing Chun.
