38:10 look at how smooth and non chalant this dock pull up was compared to the beginning. So many nay sayers. Thoroughly impressed with how far you have come. You dont have any quit in you. Even when you bust your face open you keep going. I love and admire that about you.
Mike, I'd like to say that I appreciate this longer video. It was fantastic seeing some of the day to day goings on as you head south. Even the simple things like cleaning your fenders and reviewing which solution worked best is fantastic for folks like me who are new to this and want to learn as much as we can before we start our own adventure. I just joined the AGLCA, partly due to your videos since I may never have heard of them otherwise. I don't even have a loop boat yet but I'm taking this time while I save my pennies to learn as much as I can and your videos sure help a lot. I now monitor the Joliet Free Wall for other Loopers that pass through (again, partly due to your video featuring the Free wall.) While I'm probably many years away from completing the loop I do want to take this time to learn as much as I can and get some sort of boat that will allow me some practice runs from the Mississippi to Mackinac. I can do those runs before I retire, maybe get some knowledge and experience on that leg of the loop so I can be of help to others (Harbor host.) Anyway, keep the videos coming! Even the seemingly boring stuff is fascinating to someone who dreams of having a boat like that some day! And don't worry about the length I was captivated the whole time. You broke the video up into chores, scenery, marinas, and travel time quite well. Safe travels Mike and let us know how your plans might be changing due to the Hurricane damage. Prayers for all those affected by Helene.
First, I’m so Jelly of the calm river views. Been weathered in in Michigan City for a week waiting to go Hammond. I’m ready to leave Lake Michigan and start a new chapter of the loop. Wonderful video loved every minute. Watching your videos and others in front of us I’m able to gleam information of “What to expect on the river”. Thank you. Safe travels with post hurricane flooding. MV Cetus
Always love watching your videos. They could be a few minutes or a couple of hours. Be with you from the start and with you for the long haul. Thanks for the videos.
Capt’n Mike. I have never seen you be disrespectful to anyone. Trolls are trolls. Doing the loop alone takes “balls”… glad they are now clean😂 I use Marine 31 on all my boat vinyl and it is great stuff. Use an “eraser” but wear gloves or you won’t have any fingerprints. Don’t wear nice clothes either. Very little arm energy required, spray on and let it work. Then wash with a citrus-based cleaner. I also use Green Sauce which works very well too, smells like vinegar. Treat after with 303, or other protectant. Loved the 1 hour video. Keep it coming sir.
Another good one, I think the briefing on Navionics was the best. Some information that many have heard for the first time I am sure. Certainly was interesting. Thanks for your efforts, stay safe (wear your PFD) LOL.
Good lord, an hour video? Yes, I'm gonna watch, but maybe in 2 or 3 parts. Love loop videos, so not scared of long ones. Just started watching so we'll see how it goes
Good review of Grand Harbor Marina. It was on our list of possible marinas to permanently keep our boat at (once we get it) if we want someplace up the rivers instead of the gulf coast. I think we will now look elsewhere. I should have known when I asked three times, twice by email, once by phone call for a picture of an available slip they had and nothing! They said no worries, they would get one right out to me all three times. A party marina with no one on staff on the weekends and a bunch of rowdies isn’t going to work for us. It’s not even that inexpensive of a marina. The spiderwebs (with spiders!) was the final straw. We love watching you and your adventure of doing the loop single handed. Godspeed to you on your ongoing journey!
Great information on how and where to anchorage. Can’t wait for you to get back to Florida. Please let us know so we can celebrate your return. I have binge watch your videos for the last two weeks.
Hey Michael, love this video! Really shows how far you've come being comfortable with cruising. PS You're in my neck of the woods! Would love to come out and buy you lunch and hear more of your story!
I use "Totally awesome" to clean anything white on my rv. Should work for your boat needs. Spray on wipe off. I get it at dollar store in Canada, I'm sure the US dollar store must have it as well. Thanks for sharing your trip. Great job.
Micheal; thank you for the magnet info. We are planning on doing the Loop next year on a Mainship 390 and I'm looking at ways to secure the solar panels on the bimini. Thanks again and this was a great video!!! I love it!!!❤
Hope you did OK as Helene came north. She made a bit of a mess down here in SW Florida as she moved by, but much worse farther north. Prayers for all who were in her path
Stayed at the same dock as you a couple years ago. My best friend has a Ranger Tug 25 at that marina. He’s in the very first slip in the covered slip across from you. Dark blue hull. Have a great time.
Howdy, Captain! I’ve been watching your whole journey and it looks like you’re about to hit East TN which is where I’m at. My home marina is Tennessee National but I spend time at several around here. If I can buy you a beer when you hit my area or if you need a ride to the store please feel free to look me up. I’ve learned a ton from your journey and it’s the least I could do!
Good to see you're still alive and not in a body cast, which surprises me knowing that you've been accident prone during this trip. Good Common Sense info on anchoring
I don’t have the big ball fenders, but for all my cylinder shaped ones I use goalie hockey socks and the color to match my boat color theme - they work great and you can eventually wash them or change them out 👍🏼👊🏻
I understand your concern. Sorry to say, but done by most boaters and businesses. Just part of boating. If you really think about it, the tiny parts per million would be almost nondetectable in a water sample 10 minutes later. It’s not really as bad as one might think. Not that it is right, but just have to keep a proper perspective.
@@MV_Checkmate this is how systems get destroyed, one person thinks it’s only them. More concerning is you seem to acknowledge that you are among many and continue to do it. That’s plain stupidity. Sorry to say.
@@Steve-qn8gn I understand your concern. Please look up parts per million and then you understand where I’m coming from when I say 2 tablespoons worth of cleaner in billions of gallons of water is 100% physically undetectable makes no difference whatsoever. I know this is not what you wanna hear but science is science. please understand that I am not trying to justify anything here. I’m just trying to be real and straightforward with our conversation.
@@MV_Checkmate I understand ppm perfectly fine. The fact that you are citing just your contribution in chemicals to a natural waterway without thinking about how that type of thinking has a lot of people doing the same thing. Then ppm starts to look a lot different. It is science, you’re right about that.
You could use protective fender covers which would spare you the scrubbing. Once they become too dirty, just take them off and throw them in the washer on cold cycle with a bit of soap.
How do you handle ship Board security (with out to much detail lol) ever had anchorage or a marina where there were just bad vibes. Asking because I’m retired LEO planning on doing the same thing you are in a few years.
I guess you've solved seat wobble by now but I'd cut a 3-4" wide strip of a 3-ring plastic binder and use it as a wrap. If it wears out replace it. Should get 6 treatments from the same binder.
Be careful when using neodymium magnets. The pull force may be really great but the sheer force is weak. That is how you remove the washers or magnets is by applying a sheer force. I lost three panels due to a strong wind hitting from the side. So having some lines or whatever to prevent sheer movement is critical.
Michael, I always enjoy your videos right to the end, even a long one like this. Happily I am retired and have the time! Very clever using magnets to attach solar panels and Starlink to your T-top. I never realized there are magnets available with that much holding power. When you anchor do you run your generator all night to power the A/C? How much time does it take to do engine checks before you leave an anchorage or marina?
I am one of those that doesn’t really require air-conditioning at night. So no, I do not run the generator. It only takes me one minute to do engine checks. I am blessed with the ability to raise my stairs and walk into the engine room without having to lift up floorboards.
“My balls have never been so clean!” You had to go there. There’s a Calvin & Hobbes cartoon where Calvin solves the loss of a quarter in a snowy yard with a hair dryer on an extension cord. Are you sure you don’t have a tiger as a bestie? I see Helene came up to your general vicinity, I hope it wasn’t too bad there.
Michael, I have two questions. 1. Itseems like you enjoy anchoring, so what percent of time have you been on the hook vs being in a marina. 2. What do you think has been the average cost per foot when you have stayed at a marina?
Ya know.. that’s a question that has come up several times. I should probably do a video that covers all of that. Maybe next week I will include that information (not the coming week).
Michael, i give you credit for taking the time to share your videos, but i do wonder if that makes it feel like you are working vs enjoying the adventure? Regardless keep up the great work.
I agree, but it’s such a minuscule amount when you look at the amount of water. The parts per million would not even be detectable 15 minutes later. Not that it’s right, but just trying to keep things into perspective here.
The Mississippi State health board says due to the pollution in the water that it is only safe to have one serving of fish per month out of the Mississippi . I totally disagree with you! Mike appears to be a seasoned captain. He handles issues and challenges as they occur and in my experience most boaters will lend a helping hand. My suggestion to you would be not to watch these videos

I need to do a better job of checking Nebo, missed you here at Aqua Yacht. I would have liked to say hello. Have a safe continuation of your journey.
