I noticed that in the marketplace the other day. That app looks really interesting and cool to have your own hosted video calling platform.

    Linode, you're doing it right!
I keep watching these videos as they are both helpful and interesting.

The Linux Gamer's all grown up and teaching the world to host encrypted video chat on Linode. Time flies 😭

Thank you for this - how private is this? Does this share your IP address with the other user?

    Several questions:
    1. How to do remote access on Windows?
    2. Do I really need to save my API key, or will I need it for anything other than pasting it into the Jitsi form?
    3. Does the domain have to be one that I own, and does it have to be hosted?
    4. How do I pull up my sub-domain name again? I set one, and don't know if the errors I'm getting are a result of forgetting my sub-domain name.
    5. If I have a hosted website at that domain name, do I need to create that sub-domain at my web host, or can I, or should I not?
Still don't see anywhere a really good overview of how Linode works. For example, if I want to use three or four of the marketplace functions, can I bundle them together in some way more efficiently/economically, or do I need to create a new Linode for each one?

I'll try to clear some of this up for you:
      1. On Windows you can use their built-in SSH client or a tool like PUTTY
      2. Best practice is to save your API key in case you need it for later use.
      3. You must own the domain and point it to Linode's nameservers.
      4. You can check your settings including what sub-domain you used in the DNS manager here is some more info: www.linode.com/docs/guides/dns-manager/
      5. You can use a subdomain with the parent name at a different host, you just need to use that host's DNS to point the subdomain at the IP address of your Linode. Here is some info on using subdomains: www.linode.com/docs/guides/dns-manager/#subdomains
For installing multiple services on a single server, you can not do that using the marketplace, but you can manually install each service on a single instance using a container service like Docker. This should help get you started: www.linode.com/docs/guides/when-and-why-to-use-docker/

Hi Gardiner. Thanks for this amazing tutorial - I managed to set one up at Linode and it works great. Could you also make a post install video to configure Jitsi and customise it. Thanks.

Thanks for the suggestion, we'll add it to our list. In the meantime you can check out the Jitsi docs jitsi.github.io/handbook/docs/user-guide/user-guide-advanced

How'd I check that it's installed properly? When I goto my jitsi servers URL all I see is a page saying that NGIX is installed.

Jitsi's volume control is so bad it physically hurts to listen to meetings.

How can I make Jitsi secure so that not just any body can use my server to host video ?

How did you get the SSL certificate installed?

    • @AkamaiDeveloper
      @AkamaiDeveloper  2 года назад

Installing SSL is part of the initial configuration of the one-click app, more info here: www.linode.com/docs/guides/jitsi-marketplace-app/#configuration-options
