  • “The shivering whispers of a thousand prayers accusing their gods to relieve them from overwhelming and eternal darkness. A world in agony facing the truth, the lack of a divine being to retrieve their souls. And as their scream become silent a bleak veil drips down to earth and slowly turns to peaceful silence”
    Zephid Realm - UPHEAVAL
    --------------------------------------------
Upheaval is a dystopian visual journey into a world of cosmic horror, filled with darkness and chaos. Drawing on the lore of the Zephid cult, this short film interprets the arrival and birth of the Last Traveller, an invasive, dark entity that uses planets as hosts and breeding grounds to give birth to its matter of chaos. The born swarm intelligence takes over the surface of the planets, plunging all previous life into destruction and chaos. The Traveller and its Matter of Chaos are the beginning of an unstoppable cycle that will take over the entire universe in billions of years.

What i understand is this.... so the worlds divine entity has abandoned them for unknown reasons. They have been overtaken by some "alien" or creature ( the black water stuff that morphing different shapes)... it somehow lives or combines itself somewhat with humans. It even makes different parts (organs) like the beating heart which was inserted.... after a certain amount of people are "made" on the assembly line it brings them to the area where that powerful alien with the 3 bright lights basically rips them apart.... idk why? So i think maybe the killed mutated people are reincarnated back to just be made again and destroyed... or it was just a one time thing... but the creature at the end seems like he xollects or destroys the actual soul... at first i thought the thing at the end with the lights might have been their god who abandoned them but has returned to collect their souls like it shoild have so they can rest in peace... but i think it wasnt their god... just a part of this weird species that seems to live off our pain or destruction..... anyway hope this clears it up... watch it again and maybe what i think happened will make sense. I could be wrong AF tho lol

How can a person even think of creating something like this. It might sound odd but this seems like a higher dimension or a lifeform so advanced that its hard for our simple life form to even see it . Does anyone else hate that it seems like we just abandoned the cosmos or idk but when i watch this i imagine it being like this somewhere out in the vast universe. Itd be amazing to witness things like this. Well done

Thank you very much! I actually find it difficult to explain how I come up with such ideas. A lot of it is pure intuition and just bubbles out of my head. And I think that a lot of influences from music and films I like are flowing into it unconsciously. In fact, I don't really have a script or storyboard prepared for my films and I edit them purely on instinct. Maybe ZEPHID is watching from the depths of space and guiding my thoughts ;) Thanks for watching!

DO NOT see this on magic mushrooms, or other strong hallucinogens. Something this evil needs to stay inside the screen and not be allowed to inhabit your head. DO watch this under the darkest conditions possible; otherwise you'll miss half of the impressive rendering and detail, painted in a dozen "shades of black", just because of some screen glare. For me, it conjured up Cthulhu imagery and lore, the music video of "Sober" (by Tool) and the prologue to (the Alien franchise film) Prometheus... although I'm sure the creator's mind inhabits far darker places than these, in order to put in the countless hours to bring such an impressive work to fruition!

    • @KryyssTV
      @KryyssTV Год назад +7

Somehow it didn't feel evil to me. Unnerving, sure. Repulsive, definitely. But the whole sequence of events felt very apathetic and mechanical. Like whatever needed to be done was no more malevolent than a hurricane or a swarm of locusts. Disastrous not cruel. So very Lovecraftian in tone as his works did focus on the absolute insignificance of earth and humanity in the face of some cosmic entity just going about its business. So not Lovecraftian itself but certainly inspired by.

What an absolutely masterful animation, it's so encapsulating, I crave more like this! And it's actually astonishing this work of art isn't in the millions of views, criminally underrated! In less than 10 minutes you were able to create a more suspenseful and captivating horror than most of the genre in recent years! This is something I have seen in my Nightmares and of which I wrote poetry long ago about such things. I couldn't give the visual until now and watching this was very difficult. I felt like I was going to have a panic attack! I couldn't feel comfortable! Whoever made this animation has a terrifying gift to cause extreme unease, fathomless fear, and yet a fascination with the darkness, to uncover your own Hell.

It irritates as over used "like" is in common chatter amongst young adults... Sorry beloved genius.😢 Perfection has a tumor. Kill the disease, save the body. You perfected the body already. I realize that this desire is like a self-administered gunshot to the foot, it being the case that a beautiful presentation so heavily imbued with abstraction and mystery ought be pondered by the viewer and perhaps reviewed a few times until a fairly concrete idea of what's just been shown us can be formulated. After all, therein lies most of the fun, right?

First of all, many thanks for your comment!
And yeah, i am quite a fan of edible mushrooms - but the normal ones ;).
So i try to explain what i was thinking while creating this scenes:
the heart is artificially created by the formless matter(the moving ball that comes out of the gate). Only through this heart, the human-like beings are awakened to life, so to speak, as carrying hosts. The destruction of them at the end is not the absolute end but a kind of changing their forms into large black rakes that act as a whole and travel in this form the vastness of the universe. Always in search of new planets that are there to get taken over.
Yeah, so far so good. But first and foremost, this project is more about the freedom to create your own interpretations.
I am workin on a second movie in the same Zephid Universe at the moment, the next one will be far more clearer in storyline and meaning. Many thanks for your interests and also a big praise to your channel. Very interesting content!

I think either monologue or something like that is needed to make this work. Lovecraft tended to portray horror not by actually portraying it but by showing the insanity of the people that did see it. Lovecraftian horror lives from the horrors being undescribable which is hard to portray for sure. What really creates the tention is seeing witnesses go insane.

@@epimisti I’m the same way. I like the visuals but I spent most of the video waiting for some sort of explanation on what was happening. I think what would’ve worked was some sort of twist at the end, I like to think the planet that’s shown is earth millions of years after some sort of eldritch demon or something conquered the world and started using our bodies as breeding machines. But that’s the point. Cosmic horror needs some sort of human element to compare the incomprehensible with. Even if the fear is in what you don’t know, there needs to be a surface so we can say that we’ve barely scratched the surface. This video looks great and the visuals are pretty ominous but without a concept, they’re just visuals

I'm not really sure what to think... Great visuals, to ne sure, but I dont really understand what's meant to be happening. The big box-thing creates a humanoid creature, gives it life, then puts it in a chamber with a bunch of other figures, then... lights up three doorways or somthing? And then suddenly decides to destroy the creatures instead.
Like, mystery is important in cosmic horror, but I worry this is overdoing that. You do still need to provide a few key details, in this case I think a concrete reason for the god-like entity to light up the screens before killing the creatures would potentially have given better substance. It would still be mysterious why it was creating these beings just to kill them, but just a bit more information could reinforce the bleakness of that loop.
Or, maybe I'm just missing some context clues that were supposed to be obvious.

Thank you so much! Yes, I try to take myself out of the typical genre, but maybe it's also the fact that I do everything on my own and don't have to stick to anything. That's a freedom I wouldn't want to miss. Next movie is already in the pipeline ;) Thank you very much for watching!

Excellent job on the amazing visuals. I really missed though, a lack of direct conflict. For example, I refer to one of my personal sci-fi/ horror favorites, Ridley Scott's Alien. I always liked how the vieer had fear instilled in them of 'what's next'. Here though, the entity interacted only interacted with itself. Wait. That came out wrong. 😅 But to my point. Again, you did a really impressive job on the graphics. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work

Great work on the art, you certainly are a master creator. Lovecraft would feel connected to your approach to the "darkness".
The story however was lacking in depth and consistency. No doubt you're on the road to great accomplishments. Just discovered your channel and I'll certainly watch it all.

not sure if this come before or after nyghil but definitely before godh. the humanoid sac creatures are certainly reminiscent of the humanoids in this one. also the images flashing gave me the impression of epiphany.
And a big cradle. An arc. (Noah's arc?)
(Binged all three. So cool. So cool. So unnatural but also very organic. The part with the heart reminds me of the kryptonian liquid metal tech from man of steel)

What a great masterpiece! It reminded me of the movie Event Horizon, mixed with H.P Lovecraft and all in the universe of Warhammer 40k. It's good to feel the fear of the unknown again and I just wish this was perhaps a bit longer but it got me hooked!! Excellent work to all those involved with making this, because this is how good horror movies start, and end up with a franchise!! Excellent work team 😊

Wow, a big thank you! Of course I'm delighted that you like the film and the universe it shows. If these films weren't so enormously elaborate, there would of course be a lot more of them.... But I can already say that the next movie is already in the making! It will be a while before the film is finished, but I can promise that the next part will be even better ;) Thank you very much for watching and for your comment!

Very creative, parts had me thinking of the Hellraiser Series. Curious about how the ideas were brought up. Distant future? Different dimension? Very far region of space where physics is altered?

Oh, no, it's worse than that. This isn't Hell. It's Heaven. Those are not sinners being punished, but saints being rewarded. Didn't you ever wonder why Lucifer rebelled against God, and why a third of the angels joined the rebellion? Now you know.

My goal it to get to this point in blender and beyond 🔥😎 this was amazing. Something dark and misfortunate seems to drift on and out of the void seeking purpose creating and destroying, beyond our own comprehension. Phenomenal once again. I look forward to seeing what your mind has to offer 😁 i wonder what you will think up next. I'll be waiting 😁

Oh wow, thank you so much! Blender is unfortunately not always as easy as I would like it to be, but I'm always amazed at what you can do with it. Especially as it's open source and I've taught everything myself, or rather I just keep trying and testing until something great comes out of it ;). I've also just seen that you make some great 3D artworks, keep at it, at some point it will find the right audience for sure! I'm also working on a new project right now too, let's see what comes of it...
