    Although I had always agreed with Levi’s decision to save Armin instead of Erwin (even though Erwin is my favorite character) I had always questioned what made HIM choose a kid over his best friend. This video makes things much more clear when you connect it back to the death of Kenny. Great analysis as always!

      Me Dicen Dai made a great video (spanish tho) on Erwin's whole arc as a character, my fav character too. Basically: Erwin becomes more and more flawed as his goal (seeing the basement) is nearer. Levi's choice to let him die is because he wants his best friend to finally have peace and also, because logically he knew Erwin has at the verge of losing his sanity.

    Another way to look at Kenny giving up on his dream: he realized Uri was never truly omnipotent.
    Trapped by the First King’s stance of letting Paradis perish if invaded, even Uri had to resort to some twisted dream of peace to keep moving forward. Not even Uri was free.
    Kenny realized no matter who you were or what dream you pursued, the world was too cruel for that dream to mean anything, the same conclusion Erwin comes to.

    Another factor is that Erwin was driven and motivated by that dream. Once he finds out the truth in the basement, he may not be as motivated since his dream would have been fulfilled. He would no longer have that thing he was drunk on to keep him moving forward. Because of his natural curiosity and intelligence, Armin would have still been useful to humanity after the basement.

    Ervin- what's the secret of the walls
    Armin- what's the secret of THE WORLD

    I teared up when I watched Erwin's sacrifice. It has even greater meaning for me on rewatch realizing that it wasn't just his life that he offered up but the dream that drove his life up to that point as well, the dream that his father, friends, soldiers and countless civilians died for, and the one that consumed his own humanity. He offered all of that up for what he saw as the only hope for humanity's survival within the walls, Eren Jaegar... Given Eren's shift in season 4 and the draconian and utterly inhuman tactics he's deployed against friends and foes alike to ensure the Paradisians' survival, I only wonder what Erwin would think if he saw him now.

  • @onestupidboi9320
    @onestupidboi9320 2 года назад +7

    This is a really interesting perspective. My interpretation of it was that, since Levi had forced Erwin to give up on his dream, he wouldn't have had anything left to give to the scouts, which goes into the thing that Armin said a bunch of times, "you can't change anything without the sacrificing everything." Since Erwin had nothing left to sacrifice, he couldn't change anything. But Armin was still drunk on his dream, and therefore did still have everything left to sacrifice.

    I interpreted Levi's decision as choosing greater dream, Erwin's dream was to know truth about the world, after that who knows what would happen to him, perhaps he would prefer to end his life, or stop being commander, in any case his reaction was a mistery. Armin's dream was/were Curiosity, something that can never be satisfied. In other words Erwin's Dream lied inside the Paradis island, Armin's dream was far beyond even he himself can imagine.

    I'd just like to add in that with knowledge from the last chapter, Kenny's choice literally changed the course of the entire series. We know that Ackermans can't become titans, so if he used the serum, it would've done absolutely nothing, and neither Armin nor Erwin would've been able to become the Colossal Titan, assuming they even found themselves in that position, after Kenny were to waste the serum.

    Kenny’s whole thing about having love and peace only being for the privileged hit me so damn hard. I am privileged, I grew up in a loving family with enough money to live comfortably, went to school, I’m working my way through college, and have a the goal to serve and bring peace to those around me, but Kenny’s argument has got me tripped up. I can never know of all suffering that goes on in the world. It is a cruel world. But I think they are both right, we must still fight for peace but we can never eradicate war and violence. But simply preaching about it and not actually doing anything helps no one, and effort must be given for those who do not know of such peace.

    Ackermans are Eldians though. They’re just Eledians the Founding can’t control. They can still access paths and willingly become shifters if they eat another shifter.
    Even if they were another bloodline, after 100 years, they would’ve had babies with eldians inside and as we see with Reiner who is only half Eldian, that’s enough to be under the power of the founding, further implying that there is more to the Ackerman than not being Eldians, it’s more as if they’re special type of Eldians due to the experimentation that their ancestors went through

    Eh... it’s really hard to judge people’s dreams in the way you put it. Kenny and Erwin has curiosity behind their dreams just as much as Armin did. I like to look at it as Armin was willing to sacrifice himself for his dream immediately, bearing no guilt, where Erwin was hesitating to make the action given the enormous guilt as survey commander he’s had to endure (Which may have also had consequences for humanity in the walls if they forced him to continue to be their leader and play the devil). Knowing Kenny’s sacrifice and the grudge he put on himself in order to help the generation that comes before him, his act to save Armin May have been something similar. Instead of saving his best friend, save someone else who has unknown potential and isn’t burdened by enormous guilt.

    God doesn’t want anybody in hell because He loves us, but you must understand why we deserve hell and why those who refuse to live under His authority will go there. He gave us the law (Ten Commandments) not to make us righteous, but rather to show us our sin (Romans 3:20). We’re not sinners because we sin, but rather we sin because we’re sinners. Sin is the nature of our flesh that we are born with due to the sin of Adam in the garden. For someone to be justified before God they have to be sinless. We’ve all sinned (Romans 3:23), and the the law demands death for those who sin (Romans 6:23). God is righteous, so He must punish our sin, which is what He did through His Son Jesus Christ on the cross. Jesus is Holy and sinless, yet He received our sin when He died on the cross, so that we can be righteous before God (2 Corinthians 5:21). When He died on the cross, He said “It is finished” (John 19:30), which means He paid the full price for all of your sins (past, present, and future) to be forgiven. He was buried and rose again from the dead. God will forgive anybody who puts their full trust in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. We aren’t saved based on our good deeds, but only by the grace of God (Ephesians 2:8-9). His precious blood that He shed is the only reason why we can be forgiven of our sins (Hebrews 9:22). If you confess that Jesus is Lord and believe that God raised Him from the dead, then you’ll be saved (Romans 10:9). You are born-again with the Spirit of Christ (2 Corinthians 5:17), and are not only legally justified before God, but also are accredited His righteous (Romans 4:24). Believers live for Christ now, so get to know Him through His Word. I recommend reading the book of Romans and the gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John), and watching Pastor Joseph Prince’s online videos!
