I think we all should begin the “black star trend” to look out for each other. If you return a product place a small black star somewhere hidden so when we are shopping we can all look for the mark and it will help us know. Everyone should do this now.
As an European, I can’t believe you can even return a damaged product 😭 it’s insane, no shop would accept it back, no make up, piercings, underwear etc
Im from England & tk max is our equivalent to their discount stores. I will say that to return makeup in boots it has to be not used, but my friend used it, realised it wasn’t her shade & made it look clean. They put it back on the shelf infront of us… so not even new can be trusted .. because the she broke the seal
@@ameliedunbarthey're always destroyed and people might think it's a waste etc but that $78 bottle only costs the company like $0.4 to make and they produce tens of thousands a day. Make up industry is insane it's just expensive chemicals that damage your skin dramatically. But the Kardashians told me to buy it so I have to or the other kids at middle school will say I'm poor
I worked for TJ Maxx for a year and the amount of returned makeup we put back on the shelves was sickening, i’d bring it to management and they would tell me to “tape up the box and put it back on the shelf” or if it was super damaged it was just marked down 10% and put in clearance but WAS STILL SOLD
All the comments saying “They did a bad job hiding the store, they didn’t edit out the store name,” I’m pretty sure that was the point. It wasn’t “missed in editing.” It’s a way of saying “hey guys be wary of this store” and giving us a hot hint without calling them out directly, while also trying to protect themselves. Shane is doing people a favor with this.
So my wife asked to watch this. The part about the L'Oreal and YSL being the same at different price points. That's common with a lot of things. I worked in a plant that made memory foam pillows. The formula stayed the same for every pillow. (This was in 2013 for price comparisons). If the pillow I made went to Walmart, it was sold for $29.99. If it went to Target, it was sold for $35.99. If it went to Macy's, it got a thin cover with "RL" (Ralph Lauren) on it. That one cost $129.99. They were all exactly the same. The only difference was that everyone got a standard cover (think thin white pantyhose), except the Macy's pillow that got the thin "RL" cover. You were paying $100 more just for shopping at Macy's instead of Walmart. Just something to think about.
I know this is also true for store brand watches as well. I work in field marketing and used to set up displays for different stores. A supermarket own brand watch is more than likely made by the same company as a higher end fashion retailer, but with a way different price tag.
They do this for everything from shoes shoes to clothes you won’t find the exact clothing items or shoe items from target to Walmart but when you do find them very similar, they just have a little bit cosmetic thing that makes them slightly different or the one quality piece of material is slightly different from one store to another but they’re made in the same factory and the price point difference doesn’t make any sense
Lol, plus when Shane handed the pumpkin spice soap to Ryland, you can see the price tag, it's Def TJ Max, if maybe you somehow weren't sure lol! Also, when I worked the backroom at Savers, ANY & ALL body products that were OPEN or UNSEALED was tossed out. Usually, to be honest, employees would take the perfume or makeup that could be sanitized. It was illegal for them to sell it.
ive never been to tj maxx i thought it was target but target is much more clean and organized and i thought it was jc penny but if these places are going against health dep and protocol ig. then he shouldn’t get sued.
Shane. If you see this please do this experiment again, but with a black light/ UV light to show germs on non-touched pallets. Like the pallets that look nice inside.
As someone who used to work at TJ Maxx, I can confirm that if a product is found damaged, they just discount it and put it in the clearance section. And the crazy thing is that people will actually buy it. And yes, they do tape up damaged packaging as well. They are told just to tape the package back up and put it back on the shelf.
I work on markdown team and we have to go through every single product during markdowns. If it’s opened or used or leaking we have to mark it out “moos damaged” and throw it away. It’s been like this for years so it must be store by store basis
You know, I'm a 34 year old dude who has no interest in makeup but I'd watch literally anything with Shane and Jeffree. You two are so awesome together.
Also 34, also same. Not a huge makeup person, I went through a phase where I moreso collected it rather than actually use it lol, but I'll watch Jeffree just for the smiles and entertainment. Both of them are so charming and fun.
I used to work at Ulta and we would destroy any makeup that was returned and opened. If the customer said it was not opened we would still check unless it was clearly sealed. Sometimes certain brands required us to send the returned product back to them after it’s been opened and I think they sent it to discount stores. Also hairbrushes and hair tools!
But that wouldn't make a good conspiracy video & promo video for his buddies makeup. There might be a grain of truth to whatever the "conspiracy" is he has about makeup being returned but some of his past videos have done horrible damage to families & people relationships, like interviewing his brother as an "expert " about "flat earth" or even worse claiming people from shootings in the news were "crisis actors" It's a shame there are people like Shane Dawson that have zero empathy or compassion for others & will spread lies just so je can live the good life without having a real job. His lies have destroyed so mamy families & friends I truly hope he sees this comment & he takes a second to think about the 100s if not 1000s of lives he has helped ruin because people were dumb enough to trust him 😢
One time when I worked at Home Depot at the service desk. I hated my job and I accepted a return for a toilet that I found out still had water in it and started leaking all over the place when the guy from plumbing went to put it back. Lol, it did NOT go back to the floor.. I hated that job so much. I would return anything as long as the customer had a label or a sku number. Literally returned dead plants in a trash bag once to this crazy ladie who worked there.
The fact that L’Oreal and YSL are the same product at different price points is very similar to the food brand conspiracy Shane’s done with the cereals, etc. It’s insane
My ex bf was a egg farmer and I can guarantee you that the generic brand eggs and name brand eggs were the exact same he shipped for different stores as well. So supermarket stores jsut put their own name on it but it was his eggs from his farm so I’m sure it’s like that with other foods as well
not just ysl, but every company under the l'oreal umbrella has the same base recipe. they just change one or two things and the packaging to make it "unique" for the brand they are making it for
It’s actually known in Europe that some Yves Saint Laurent beauty products are the same as the ones from L’Oréal. Same as Häagen Dazs ice cream, the base vanilla is the same as discount store’s vanilla ice cream 🤷🏼♀️
i used to work at tj maxx and it is true! makeup returns go right back onto the floor after being returned. no one looks at the product to see if it’s broken or messed up, they just put it out for people to buy! BUT, if they do see a product that looks damaged on the shelves, they’ll throw it away
i missed this. i just want my teens back and shane was my teenhood. i had his books and watched his short films and his movies. feels nostalgic. start making more of these, shane. your true fans genuinely miss you. we're not just hate watching or trying to make you have a downfall or expose you. the real ones are still here, waiting for videos like this. keep your head up! sending love to you and your family
oh my god, genuinely appreciate you posting this and spreading awareness for how unethical these "discount stores" can be with their policies and lack of oversight. this is DANGEROUS.
I worked at Marshall’s for 3 years, since opening in my city and we definitely threw returns out. Items that could be reused like kids toys, if not broken got donated. Makeup could not be reused regardless of quality. Name brand items can’t be donated so they got ripped, broken, or trashed somehow and written off for insurance. Then just thrown in the garbage out back. Not sure if it’s the different CEO’s since Canada and US are under different ones, but you’re not supposed to put it on shelf. Even items that were swatched, or gone through that was on the shelf for tossed. We checked it every night.
This is like a nationwide issue too with these “discount” stores, every single one has this issue! I don’t understand how other stores even smaller with less employees like CVS, or Walgreens, etc, are able to keep track of damaged products and discard them but stores like this don’t have any regulation practices on damaged products. It’s borderline disrespectful and demeaning to customers. Glad you’re calling them out Shane, this was such a well done video.
Most store policies will sell the returned products to a warehouse that packages all returned items, which then can be bought in bulk to the top seller. 😊
i work at walgreens and we have a pretty safe return policy.. if the product is clearly tampered with or the box is broken open etc.. we damage it.. but if it’s clearly just the wrong thing that someone bought (cuz old ppl mess up all the time) then we just put it back on the shelves after checking it..
@@morganlblaney I can absolutely confirm as well all CVS stores throw out makeup returns if they have been opened. Even the shitty ones in bad areas, because it's policy. The ones in bad areas have even resorted to pouring bleach in the trash and marking the packages "used" with permanent markers because people literally dumpster dive to fish the used products out of the trash.
I’ve worked at this unnamed store for about 2 years and I will tell you this is true. We will return absolutely anything, and if a manager saw that they would most likely just put it on clearance rather than damaging it out. Their employees don’t get paid enough to care either.
Lmao exposed what? The star he drew on a BRAND NEW BOX LMAO Please re-watch where he initially draws the star. Look how dirty that box is. Now the new one. Not the same Please think critically
@@ostrichblipsYou’re the one who needs to rewatch the vid lmao. He writes stars on two boxes. One is relatively new and the other is dirty. No matter what has happened or what cancellations he went through you HAVE to admit Shane is freaking awesome at doing videos. The editing, the dramatics, the CONSPIRACIES!!!! Just the best.
Honestly yea, I have to agree. I know Shane is ashamed of his past, but I personally believe in 2nd chances & Shane's done nothing but improve over the years. He's learned from his mistakes & although the first couple cancellations were warranted, I think over time he just became a social punching bag for cancel culture to attack
@@andriab8517agreed entirely. cancel culture has become so dangerous now. i’m all for holding people accountable but its gotten to the point where its beyond cyber bullying.

Untrue and the whole thing was just a big a**Snowball for no reason, because. People love getting their panties wet Uber canceling people. It's like a f****** tink or fetish to cancel people.
As a former worker at the “ discount store “ I can tell you this is true. All returns we would get of makeup/skin care were put back to resell. It didn’t matter if it was used or new. It was always put back. And if an associate found it broken, all they had to do is marked it down.
at my discount store, we actually are so heavy on that policy. we check it the moment they want to do a return even with perfume, clothes, shoes, etc. i tell people over again, once you open the seal you cannot return it. be safe yall!!

honestly, I am really proud of you for releasing this. I can tell how you getting cancelled had you put in a dark place and talking about getting sued by a lot of people. This does need to be talked about and I am glad it's you doing it. All of your anxiety is justified in how you have so many moving parts behind the scenes and how you've been nervous to release things
Shane, I literally SCREAMED when you talked about mascara samples. This is so true. I ONLY buy better than sex sample mascara, for years. It is 100000% better than full size. I’ve been telling people this forever.
Giiiirl, I get samples of everything before I buy a full size, sometimes free from Sephora Rouge promotions and tell me WHY the samples of even CREAMS are always better than a full size product. Like, I'm shooketh by this video because it just confirms for me that it doesn't just stop at mascara😖😖😖
@@BananaVonBerry SAME!!! & you’re so right. I always take advantage of the free samples from Sephora and when I do end up buying the product in a big size it definitely feels different. Big corporations suck 🤬
I thought I was the only one who thought this. Like the travel size of the better then sex mascara is my favorite the big one is literally horrible and I can’t even say how much I agree with this. Wow spoken not broken I’m so excited someone commented this.
This has made me realize from now on I’m only buying online makeup straight from the producer or online market. As someone in Public Health work froce this is equally disturbing as someone reselling leftover food. Thank you Shane for making this known, and I hope the backlash you might receive from companies, aren’t worth the great praise and good you’re doing in letting people realize the atrocity of reselling used makeup is.
That is easy to do if you already know your color but stuff like foundation, conclear and foundation powder or even non foundation powder I need to know my color sorry online skin matching doesn't work for shit for me.
I worked at Ulta for a few years and can confirm that we did indeed destroy used makeup. From testers and from returns. The sales associates literally had to scrap out the pans of powders and pour out liquid products. They were VERY thorough about it all
it was fridays for us and i absolutely hated having to destroy it all!! can confirm ulta is very good about this and its why i continue to shop with them.
Yea L’Oréal owns YSL, Guess, Lancome and a bunch of other brands. When I worked for Lancome my checks said L’Oréal and I had to go to the L’Oréal headquarters in NYC for my interview.
The fact that they put them back on the shelf hurts my Soul. I can promise, I use to work at TJMaxx as a Coordinator/Supervisor in the Beauty and Womens Departments, I spent most of my shifts checking makeup and throwing out anything with the smallest touch. And returns were thrown away immediately. THAT IS POLICY for all Marshalls, Tjmaxx, HomeGoods, and so on. It wasn't them doing their job, it was pure laziness by the team, its part of policy to throw all beauty returns, and to regularly check beauty department for tampered goods. That entire team would be fired by Corporate if they knew this was happening. Negligence is all I can say. Customers touch everything, and sadly not everything can be caught, such as mascara and such, but the normal team TRYS to make sure it doesn't happen (Well at least mine did).
i get ur point but how is it laziness on the team i would think it would be much easier to throw out the returns than bring them all back to the makeup section and restock
@@rubiebarrynah. It’s more work to open each makeup item and inspect it rather than tossing it into a go-back pile for another associate to put back on the floor. 100% this is about employee laziness. There absolutely ARE policies in place. He was giving too much credit to the employees when in reality, management isn’t holding their team accountable.
i was shook!! especially since here in Denmark, you cannot return used makeup. you can only return the makeup you've bought if it is in its original sealing - so unused. So at first, it just amazes me that youre allowed to return used makeup in the US, but then that they also RESELL the used makeup!!! thats crazy!
I genuinely don’t understand why they don’t do the same here in the US. There is no good reason for them to accept returned makeup unless they are in fact selling them to discount stores. So gross.
@@almamikkelsen3460 if I have learned anything about the US in my life, it is that corporations will do anything for a buck and it doesn’t matter who it harms ☹️☹️
as someone who works in a UK makeup store, we are not allowed to return makeup products unless it’s faulty or cause an allergic reaction, america is crazy for the things you can return😭
It's a lie. We, literally, just accept the return the immediately toss it into the trash. There's no "incinerator" and there's no reselling. It is, literally, trash.
Im so glad you brought up this HUGE ISSUE, everytime i go to tj maxx or other discount stores I do notice that the make up looks completely messed tf up but never questioned it, I just assumed people wouldnt buy it 😭😭Please make this a series, its already iconic
Dud. Luxury Brand, Exclusiv Labels do the same sh1t! He just didn´t test them jet. I worked at a online retailer and they sold used/returend Undies from Luxury Brands right to the next customer. They get new packageing (so it looks like its still sealed.) and thats it. If you think your safe caus you pay 100 Bucks. Your Not! Make Up industrie is no diffrent. Maybe they press the makeup back into shape more with the the Quality Brands. But thats about it. If you contract Aids or good knows what thats on you to prove in court it came from that product. No chance!
@@samu-chanthen I’m not sure you were paying attention, lol. 1. L’Oréal selling the same product as their other company at different prices. 2. The quality difference from sample size products vs. full sizes products.
Bruh, I’m a dude who doesn’t care about anything makeup, but when you and Jeffree do anything together and the conspiracy noises start, I get CHILLS!!! God I need more 😂😂
It would honestly be interesting to see if you did bacteria swatches on some of those discount makeup products - like do the Petri dish thing cuz theoretically if someone was touching it/its contaminated you could do culture swabs and see what's growing
I don’t buy makeup often but from now on I will definitely be buying Jeffrey star ⭐️ products, integrity and honesty mean everything to me and I really appreciate the transparency in this matter. 💗👏thank you
This is such a public service that Shane is doing by exposing these corporations. I’ve never trusted the makeup at stores like these. But I see SO MANY people buying the makeup anytime I go into these stores. THANK YOU SHANE ❤
I don't know how much I can emphasize my love for Shane's conspiracy theories. I want him to continue to make more. There are so many conspiracy theories that I still want him to cover.
I look forward to his videos being out, so much so, that its an entire event for me: Nice cup of coffee with extra foamy cream, nice snack, relax and cozy blanket@@vvrmz
I used to work at Ulta and they did really destroy used makeup and testers. Managers had to witness us destroying the product and there was a "When in doubt cut it out" policy. On top of that we had to lock the dumpster for liability reasons because people shouldn't use, used makeup. I think that discount stores buy expired cheap products or ones on the verge of expiration/knock offs.
interviewing a "discount store" employee would have been extra amazing, like getting them to say they are trained to put products back on the shelf without thorough evaluation.
I don’t think they are allowed to do something like that. Even if the person’s identity is hidden, it could still surface. They risk being fired and maybe they can’t afford to lose their job.
In the U.K. you can’t even return make up, skin care, feminine care absolutely anything hygiene related, underwear or piercing jewellery unless it has a fault. So for example if you only received half the product, or the pump doesn’t work or something. That’s the ONLY time you can return it. This is shocking!
yeap me 2 im a kiwi and we are the same, if we do return due to a fault it gets destroyed, which as staff like me safely destroying the items for landfill, which is kind of fun and great stress relief from all the karen bs in retail, the risk is far too great in the end than the money we can get from the returned product, that and its just bloody nasty
I'm honestly sad now... this is disgusting. Where I work, we check the products before we allow them to be returned... all stores should do this. Who cares if you're loosing money? Humain rights should be %1,000 considered. Thank you Shane, Ryland, Lizzy, Chris, and Jeffree for bringing this to our attention 🙏
But consumerism is destroying the planet. Can you imagine how many people return brand new shit that they've bought for barely any reason whatsoever, with no thought of how this product is going to now to a dump to rot for the rest of eternity. People should not be returning beauty products, period--unless there was some serious health/safety issue.
@@rediettadesse2828 lol I hope you're joking. I'm from Asia and no, read my reply above. We also have Sephora 🤦🏻♀️ Asia has a lot of their own brands as well so we don't need to buy shitty used unhygienic items. I'm not from China but I hope you are aware China also supplies for the US and other countries.
It also is attacking underprivileged lower class consumers that are looking for products from “high end” makeup brands (or what we as consumers are brainwashed to believe are higher quality) which is absolutely disgusting. Just shows how much our society cares about money rather then basic human rights that include our health, safety, and so much more. Thank you Shane this is incredibly eye opening and powerful!! I absolutely love for these videos and always have ❤
i work at tjmaxx and at least where i am from all returned makeup gets destroyed. we make sure to look at all of the makeup products when they are returned and if they even look used in the slightest then they get damaged out and destroyed. it is disgusting to know that some stores don’t check to ensure the health of all customers.
As a former VIP Rush in sephora 😂who spent half her salary in make up at some point when i was young and stupid. Minis are the best options in my opinion, most of my make up goes bad and i do not even get to use the whole product
@@taintedlove245YES! I always opt for the mini/travel size when available bc I still have a Naked palette I haven’t hit pan on 😂😂. Added bonus? My regular make up never needs repacking to fly 🎉
Hey Shane. Similar to mascaras, i think they do the same thing with perfume testers. The scent from testers is stronger and lasts way longer than the actual full sized perfume bottles. Always happens with me when i buy perfumes after trying on the tester.
As someone who works at retail beauty shop I can confirm that at least from my company that doesn’t happen. Testers are the same from the same batch order as the perfumes being sold. Like when one tester is finished we just open a new perfume that could have been sold and make a tester. There is no special box specified for testers
I also work somewhere that sells beauty products and can agree with nattyrose. Our fragrance testers are the exact same as the fragrance you buy. It gets taken out of the box, scanned out and a tester sticker slapped on it. We also make our own testers for people to try a fragrance for a couple days.
This was crazy! Thank you so much for exposing this--hopefully a lot less people are going to get eye infections because of this reporting, and I hope this practice of re-stocking contaminated products stops. Strong work!
So, here’s another HUGE problem; there are makeup resellers on Poshmark and other selling apps who actually target discount stores for makeup to resell bc of the pricing. So you have a GIANT chain of makeup being sold and and resold and resold, and it’s NOT regulated!
@@britishroyalfamilyvideosI've seen them outright say if it's "used", "unsealed unused", "pull-outs" so yeah people know the state of the stuff sold there heforehabd😂
I used to work at Marshall’s and was assigned to take the boxes that were meant to be put onto the shelves. These boxes were randomized items that were plucked by workers from the back that were ready to be put on the shelves. One day there was a messed up lipstick box (cut up, looked like it had been tampered with/ used). I opened it up and saw lipstick smudged on the packaging as well as a small chuck of the lipstick missing. I ended up throwing this away in the trash. Later that day, my manager called a random meeting and announced to everyone that “no one is allowed to throw out or tamper with store merchandise”… only worked there for a few months.. very weird job and store to work at
i work at H&M and if we ever come over a product like this, mostly in store messed with by customers, we have to register it and "zero" it in the system before sending back to our recycle section whatever. so i understand why you cant just throw it away, perhaps there was a routine in place that wasnt done? of course it shouldnt be sold or put on the shelves, but just throwing it out to the business end is the same as stealing. as the item is still "in stock" but not available.
You had to get a key carrier or a CEC or the manager to mark it and throw it out for inventory reasons. I don’t think the makeup was used but definitely expired and nasty. If it was returned and a cashier was an idiot I could see them putting it in the restock on the shelf pile when it was supposed to be destroyed.
If the company comes at you, post both the receipts and pictures with time stamps! There is no excuse for what they’re doing, thank you for bringing awareness! And LOVE you and Jeffree making content together again!❤
The only people that would get in trouble from this is the employees that work at that specific store unfortunately. They’ll probably just pin it on employees not following policies
@@BayBayJordanzthis would probs only work if it was only 1 manager or 1 employee. However since he tested this on 5 different store this is def something that is part of the training. I sanitize anything from a discount store but it scares me thinking that maybe some people don't know you need to do that and even worse that you DO need to that. Never buy mascara, lipstick, or any liners that you cant sharpen & sanitize though
Being from Europe the US return policies are crazy to me. There's no way I could return make up, even if it was unused I'm pretty sure they won't accept it back. Same with fragrance, underwear.. clothing you can return if tags are in place but those usually have to be returned within 2 weeks of purchase. To me in the US it seems like you can return anything anytime and it's wiiiild to me
Same here from Danmark! If you break the seal on makeup there is no way off returning, so it’s crazy to me how they can just return it if they don’t like it :O
When I have worked in stores, we did have pretty lenient return policies, especially if the product was somehow defective, but unless it was like, clothes with the tags still on, we didn't resell it. There was no mysterious truck. We just chucked it out back in the dumpster.
Most places only except returns within a month, n if it is damaged or open it can be returned but it is usually tossed out, discount stores are different tho.
Shane: “We won’t name names and just say discount stores” Also Shane: Doesn’t blur the huge neon TJ Max sign you can clearly see as they drive out of the parking lot
Same with perfume/fragrances I used to be a beauty advisor and I would sell cosmetics and it was ALWAYS the sample version that smelled better than the actual product!! There is def something scammy with the ingredients and people would come back and return the fragrance because it wasn’t exactly like the ‘sample’ product they would make us test on those fragrance strips.
As someone that worked at a busy TJMaxx in nyc .. We were not allowed to throw items out that looked used unless we had the managers approval (There was a whole procedure of deleting items on their end) So I never thought too much about it. And yes I would consistently put items aside that were returned (Or looked used) in a pile left for the manager to “delete” and more often than not that pile was denied…and forced to be brought back to the floor but with a red/yellow label price tag. So now that I think about it maybe the managers are told to “delete” the least amount of items as possible and feel that pressure from corporate. Thanks so much Shane for bringing awareness to this on your huge platform! I always advice my friends/fam to thoroughly check the items before buying here, and please everyone do the same! ❤
As someone who worked for a discount store, I am horrified. At my store, we never sold used / damaged makeup. The manager always damaged it out and thrown it in the garbage. When makeup is returned, we have to open the product and make sure it's in good condition for it to be returned on the floor. Forgot to mention I worked for Ross
I worked for Marshalls, and it tbh Shane isn't that far off... I dont know if I'll get in trouble for throwing this out but all 3 stores, I worked at would only throw away the makeup if it was extremely bad. If it was just slightly messed up, then they would fix it up to look decent and put it back on the shelf. I also did the makeup merchandising when it came in and sometimes, they came in with fingerprints ON the makeup. It may not be like that at every store but it was a pretty consistent experience at the 3 I worked at.
I also worked for Ross and had the same experience! Glad to know something is safe but I just could not bring myself to buy anything that looks even remotely tampered but then again you could never know in the case shown in the video.
_”When makeup is returned, we have to open the product and make sure it’s in good condition for it to be returned on the floor”_ … even THATS unacceptable, unless it’s still sealed and unopened, it should be trashed. It’s unsanitary and it allows store employees to use their discretion as to whether or not something was used, when they really have no idea. Something like makeup should be 100% brand new, unused, untampered, sealed & if not it should be tossed.
The reason the sample mascara makes lashes thicker is because it has a smaller volume of product in the tube which means it’s further along in its dry out process. If you keep using the full size you’ll see in a week or two it performs the same as the sample size because the product has had air exposure to help it dry down in the tube. Mascara always looks best after 2 weeks of regular use.
it’s like we’re shocked, but we’re not shocked because we all know this has been happening for years and the fact that not everyone can afford high-end make up and they go buy these items at these discounted stores and they could possibly get some kind of disease infection is horrible 💔

I know people are like “omg it’s not real don’t believe him” but what’s stopping these people from doing this? Like money controls us all why wouldn’t they?
A lot of companies do this. Grocery store brands are owned by the same companies that are brand names. It’s the same product. But people lean towards the names they know! But either way, they get everyone’s money
i used to work for Tj Maxx (not saying this is where shane was! 👀💀) for two years and i was front end only, i was head cashier and the shit we were pressured into taking back was disgusting. Truly, higher ups in this entire company are disgusting, they don’t care about their employees, customers, anyone. All they care about truly is that they are making profit (as if they don’t have enough) For a brief time i did work on the floor and so many makeup, self care items, etc came in broken, messed up, fucked with and management still made us put it on the floor regardless of the fact we didn’t know how it got the way it was. We would have to scotch tape it up and put it on the shelves regardless of if we wanted to or thought it was safe for customer use. Same for returns. many times i actually fought with customers about returns (like lipsticks, etc). I would tell them “ma’am i’m sorry you don’t like it but i cant take it back because i cant resell it” and they would get mad at me, i’d have to call the manager and they would process the return for them anyways, making me look like the asshole for just trying to do my job correctly. (Policy was that they do not accept those types of returns. the policy is only there to cover their ass on paper, irl they do whatever district managers tell them to because they want good raises.) if it was lipstick, or eyeshadow usually they’d hand it to us and walk away and at my personal store i would mark it out and throw it away, but i cant tell you what those shady people did on days they got returns like that and i wasn’t in. Just thought i’d put my two sense in since i had plenty of experience working for shady discount stores. It was ridiculous and a lot of my coworkers and i left because of how terrible the overall of that company is. They would take a lawsuit, pay it off and keep rolling. keep spreading awareness shane love you.
You'd think that the store managers benefitted from accepting ruined returns, or selling any ol' product. In reality, it doesn't effect them in any way what so ever. Good or bad. That's what is crazy to me. It takes just as much effort to throw out old, used, returned, and destroyed makeup and products, as it does to put them back on the shelves.
eh, the issue isn't accepting returns even if they are discugting. I don't know of a single place that does not accept makeup returns. I always return product that isn't a good fit for me, from shade matching in natural light vs fluorescent, to textures and formulas that are just not it. I always return anything I am not going to use (not just makeup, everything). The issue is that it should all be destroyed/discarded if it is unsanitary to resell or just doesn't work.
@@3AmandaR1017 Actually they ARE incentivized to restock damaged goods that "should" otherwise be destroyed. Managers in virtually all retail environments are absolutely incentivized to reduce shrinkage - known as the reduction of business earnings that corresponds with merchandise wastage or theft. If they're constantly expected to reduce shrinkage, they can even go a step further and "cheat the system" by re-shelving products that their inventory records would otherwise indicate as sold or damaged. Thispractice is particularly problematic because it skews overall sales data, occurrences of theft, product damage, etc.
omg you are 100 percent right it makes perfect sense now ..I had a bottle of lip gloss ,the one with stick that goes inside the liquid . well I had just bought it and I used it twice and the second time I used it my lips starting stinking and I broke out with cold sores all across my top and bottom lip within the first 30 minutes ...I never ever bought that kind again or allowed my kids too ..my lips never broke out again so I'm not sure what it was ...
The way I have bought make up at this store and thought they were doing me a favor for it being so cheap, this is legitimately such important information. This is completely unsanitary and unsafe. Thank you for sharing this.
@@hannahcash96it has to be dollar 🌲. can’t think of another “discount” store that sells makeup. also the shelves they show, assuming they would be the store, seem like them.
My mom worked at a discount store ( specifically the one Shane went too) and she said they will literally take anything back. Even if someone bought something from a different store they would let people get refunds and the store would take it. They don’t check their returns they just simply put another tag on it and send it back on the floor for people to buy, and this goes for clothes and beauty supplies.
When I worked at Walmart someone brought back a half eaten birthday cake and we had to accept it 😅😂 we threw it away of course but we had to give them their money back it was wild
I'm so sorry it became a trend to hate on you. I will say though, you should've never apologized to anyone. You just have humor that's not for everybody and people aren't willing to understand that. There was more than just great laughs from you. Thanks

As someone who’s dad was facilities manager as a makeup product site … I can 1000% confirm that most makeup is made from the same company, with the SAME ingredients and shipped in different labels . He would bring home free stuff all the time & after that I never purchased makeup the same lol
Same with foods I had a uncle work in a wetobix cereal factory and they did the home brands too all the exact same product just put in slightly different moulds to change the shape
I used to work for a Huge corporation that Shane mentioned, and the store that I worked at definitely sold used makeup. They would let customer's return used makeup and put it back out on the floor if they think it wasn't used even when it's already been opened. And even times when it was clearly used, I had customers show me used makeup they'd find themselves out on the Salesfloor. Other times, the managers would get so desperate to fulfill online and pickup orders they would rummage in salvage bins, defect bins, return bins, even sweep products out from underneath shelves and find it covered in filth.I promise I've seen it happen. And for those who might say that's not possible because this company is big on tracking every single item, and they do thinkgs by the book thats b.s I was in a small format, and they give two shits about numbers or accuracy. Or even Respecting consumers enough to give them unused products. I was victim to it myself. I once bought an item, and when I took it home to use it, it was already used! and I brought it back like w t h is that? who really put this shit back on the floor? Seriously, they were just happy I bought it and not "a real customer". Like 😳 *side note I worked at multiple locations and every location had the same idagf attitude, and had the same dirty ass practices. You would be shocked to know what really goes on in your favorite "inclusive" big brand store.
Daaamn.. If you're talking about Target, i wouldn't be surprised. Jeffree was saying like, "oh id always order online so I knew it came from a warehouse" but with target, their online orders don't come from a warehouse. I worked at a Target store that did shipping in the back.. We would just walk the floor and find the product, then package it up. It could easily be a used product, and I could see people using the nasty stuff out of desperation because it's not always tracked.. People steal so then it will say there's inventory when there's not, so I can imagine someone would take some nasty salvage thing and ship it.
I actually screamed when I saw Shane pull out the better than sex mascara because when he brought up the conspiracy of the sample sizes being better than the full sizes, my brain went straight to better than sex!!! Those sample sizes are AMAZING and the full sizes are clumpy, even when you warm it up in your hands 😭
JeffreeStar is unbiased, and BRUTALLY HONEST that just wants the best for people and give knowledge and awareness to people. People dislike him because on how brutal honesty and unbiased opinions, and they keep basing him in his past. He was defensive, he isnt a bad person, idc what other people think of Jeffree, he is strong, brave, and very intelligent.
I actually have my own conspiracy theory that reason Shane even got canceled was because someone was trying to keep him quiet and stop him from exposing the truth
When I used to work at BBW, a lady returned a bunch of wallflowers she bought online. Protocol says to accept all returns and if it’s not used put it back on the floor. Fortunate enough, one of my coworkers had been working there for YEARS. She said she didn’t think the wallflowers looked normal. The lady that returned them filled it with acetone and colored it to make it look like the real thing. The world is heinous.
Wow that’s insane! BBW used to have such a great return policy they’d take anything back at anytime so I bet that lady kept her old wallflowers and did a swap to get the new ones for free.
as someone who works at a Tj Maxx, whenever we have makeup that we sell, we cannot return it. under any circumstances. makeup that we find that has been touched or damaged or tampered with in any sort, we are told to completely destroy and markout.
I’m pretty sure it depends on the place. The UK has consumer laws in place that allow for returns of these things. Some places have “love it or your money back” policies. I do believe Superdrug used to accept returns on makeup but I’m not sure about currently
I’m a operations supervisor for CVS HEALTH and we accept make up back and most of our products but they do get damaged out by me and other supervisors & managers have to do them one by one they get individually sealed and they get shipped out to get destroyed. All this does make me wonder what does happen after they get sent out if anything nefarious happens when they’re being shipped by distributors to get destroyed.
I almost died from using make up from a discount store my skin started to have bumps everywhere and they didn’t know what was wrong with me in the hospital thank you Shane for doing this my life was endangered over makeup

All the comments saying “They did a bad job hiding the store, they didn’t edit out the store name,” I’m pretty sure that was the point. @@stancedstyfon1234it was tjmaxx 😂
Thank you
They do this for everything from shoes shoes to clothes you won’t find the exact clothing items or shoe items from target to Walmart but when you do find them very similar, they just have a little bit cosmetic thing that makes them slightly different or the one quality piece of material is slightly different from one store to another but they’re made in the same factory and the price point difference doesn’t make any sense
Same with shampoos, body wash etc. They are manufactured in one factory and put it in different packages of different brands.
Shane saying he’s not gonna say what the store is like we don’t know it’s Tj Maxx 😂😂💀
18:15 u can see the unblurred logo as they walk in lmao
Lol, plus when Shane handed the pumpkin spice soap to Ryland, you can see the price tag, it's Def TJ Max, if maybe you somehow weren't sure lol!
Also, when I worked the backroom at Savers, ANY & ALL body products that were OPEN or UNSEALED was tossed out. Usually, to be honest, employees would take the perfume or makeup that could be sanitized. It was illegal for them to sell it.
no im crying at how they drove away and you can see the tj maxx logo in the distance
"FBI, OPEN UP!!!"
ive never been to tj maxx i thought it was target but target is much more clean and organized and i thought it was jc penny but if these places are going against health dep and protocol ig. then he shouldn’t get sued.
Shane. If you see this please do this experiment again, but with a black light/ UV light to show germs on non-touched pallets. Like the pallets that look nice inside.
Yes! And do a bacteria test on the products!!!
Great idea❤

I don't think it'll show germs, but you definitely find out of there's seman on it 😂

How could they return it when it was unsealed.
But that wouldn't make a good conspiracy video & promo video for his buddies makeup.
There might be a grain of truth to whatever the "conspiracy" is he has about makeup being returned but some of his past videos have done horrible damage to families & people relationships, like interviewing his brother as an "expert " about "flat earth" or even worse claiming people from shootings in the news were "crisis actors"
It's a shame there are people like Shane Dawson that have zero empathy or compassion for others & will spread lies just so je can live the good life without having a real job.
His lies have destroyed so mamy families & friends I truly hope he sees this comment & he takes a second to think about the 100s if not 1000s of lives he has helped ruin because people were dumb enough to trust him 😢
“Unless certain brands” …whom?
One time when I worked at Home Depot at the service desk. I hated my job and I accepted a return for a toilet that I found out still had water in it and started leaking all over the place when the guy from plumbing went to put it back. Lol, it did NOT go back to the floor.. I hated that job so much. I would return anything as long as the customer had a label or a sku number. Literally returned dead plants in a trash bag once to this crazy ladie who worked there.
I worked at Ulta as well and we had to destroy most things returned but some other things back to the “manufacturer”😅
The fact that L’Oreal and YSL are the same product at different price points is very similar to the food brand conspiracy Shane’s done with the cereals, etc. It’s insane
It’s very common
My ex bf was a egg farmer and I can guarantee you that the generic brand eggs and name brand eggs were the exact same he shipped for different stores as well. So supermarket stores jsut put their own name on it but it was his eggs from his farm so I’m sure it’s like that with other foods as well
IT SHOULD BE ILLEGAL
not just ysl, but every company under the l'oreal umbrella has the same base recipe. they just change one or two things and the packaging to make it "unique" for the brand they are making it for
It’s actually known in Europe that some Yves Saint Laurent beauty products are the same as the ones from L’Oréal.

@@NotSoTypicalBeauty they’re not supposed to in the US either. it’s illegal and unsafe
I worked at CVS and if people returned makeup we would literally throw it in the trash.
This isn't just nationwide it's worldwide!
i work at walgreens and we have a pretty safe return policy.. if the product is clearly tampered with or the box is broken open etc.. we damage it.. but if it’s clearly just the wrong thing that someone bought (cuz old ppl mess up all the time) then we just put it back on the shelves after checking it..
@@morganlblaney I can absolutely confirm as well all CVS stores throw out makeup returns if they have been opened. Even the shitty ones in bad areas, because it's policy. it was fridays for us and i absolutely hated having to destroy it all!! can confirm ulta is very good about this and its why i continue to shop with them.
Yess I think it’s more the discount stores! I know ulta throws like barley use stuff away!
Same. I also worked at Ulta and we destroyed everything! Even if someone walked out the store and came right back in with it, it got destroyed.
Ulta isn’t a discount store , but that’s great to know.

Customers touch everything, and sadly not everything can be caught, such as mascara and such, but the normal team TRYS to make sure it doesn't happen (Well at least mine did).
i get ur point but how is it laziness on the team i would think it would be much easier to throw out the returns than bring them all back to the makeup section and restock

i was shook!! especially since here in Denmark, you cannot return used makeup. you can only return the makeup you've bought if it is in its original sealing - so unused. So at first, it just amazes me that youre allowed to return used makeup in the US, but then that they also RESELL the used makeup!!! thats crazy!
It’s in the UE we can’t return used products, and thank god we can’t
Same with Aus, the only time I returned one was when I bought it in the same day and I just exchanged the shade rlly
I genuinely don’t understand why they don’t do the same here in the US. There is no good reason for them to accept returned makeup unless they are in fact selling them to discount stores. So gross.

In Netherlands its the same
in europe these things are regulated way better than in the US it seems.
That's because the US is profits over people.
Here they only care about money
Same in my country too. We can return or exchange clothes but we can’t return things like cosmetics, lingeries, hygienic purposes
They sell it to africa or asia
@@rediettadesse2828 lol I hope you're joking. I'm from Asia and no, read my reply above. We also have Sephora 🤦🏻♀️

It also is attacking underprivileged lower class consumers that are looking for products from “high end” makeup brands (or what we as consumers are brainwashed to believe are higher quality) which is absolutely disgusting. This has been going on for YEARS! Finally someone is talking about this. Thank you Shane!!
Hey Shane. Similar to mascaras, i think they do the same thing with perfume testers. The scent from testers is stronger and lasts way longer than the actual full sized perfume bottles. Always happens with me when i buy perfumes after trying on the tester.
So you think they water down the perfume?
hmmmm. you might have just saved me $155
As someone who works at retail beauty shop I can confirm that at least from my company that doesn’t happen. Testers are the same from the same batch order as the perfumes being sold. Like when one tester is finished we just open a new perfume that could have been sold and make a tester. There is no special box specified for testers
@@NattyRoseI think she meant like the tiny sample sizes, similar to the mascaras in the video.
People know it’s used the whole point of postmark are used items hon. 😂

Later that day, my manager called a random meeting and announced to everyone that “no one is allowed to throw out or tamper with store merchandise”… only worked there for a few months.. very weird job and store to work at
I was literally just thinking that marshalls ans tj max does this for sure!!
i work at H&M and if we ever come over a product like this, mostly in store messed with by customers, we have to register it and "zero" it in the system before sending back to our recycle section whatever. so i understand why you cant just throw it away, perhaps there was a routine in place that wasnt done? of course it shouldnt be sold or put on the shelves, but just throwing it out to the business end is the same as stealing. as the item is still "in stock" but not available.
@@hughes613yes it’s true I had a friend who worked at tjmaxx and not only was it makeup but it was also facial stuff and shampoo.

I worked for Ross as well and we had to MOS all used makeup!! Tj Maxx has always done this🫤
I worked for Marshalls, and it tbh Shane isn't that far off...
I tried to return makeup once at Ross cause it had a weird smell, they denied it because it was open. That’s good tho.
Shane always does a phenomenal job with his videos, this was amazing, thank you so much and continue doing so❤️🤗💕

I used to work for a Huge corporation that Shane mentioned, and the store that I worked at definitely sold used makeup. And even times when it was clearly used, I had customers show me used makeup they'd find themselves out on the Salesfloor.
I didn’t even know that Shane is back doing content ❤️🔥 vibe to see you back babes!
I fu***ing screamed during the call between jeffree and shane. I love love LOVE seeing this iconic duo back in action😭🙌❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
WHY IS THIS THE TRUTH?
Omg I knew I wasn’t crazy
I also thought of that brand! I only buy the samples because they really are much better than the full size!!!
Same thing happened with my mascara from KVD 😭 the sample size was amazing!!!! 100/10 but when I bought the full size it was TRASH!!! 😭
I couldn’t agree more. And I literally thought the SAMMMMME thing before he said the name!!!!! This is insane!!!!!
People can talk all the shit they want on Shane & Jeffree but their transparency & investigative journalism is TOP TIER. 💗
no fr jeffree is actually based
JeffreeStar is unbiased, and BRUTALLY HONEST that just wants the best for people and give knowledge and awareness to people. People dislike him because on how brutal honesty and unbiased opinions, and they keep basing him in his past. He was defensive, he isnt a bad person, idc what other people think of Jeffree, he is strong, brave, and very intelligent.
Exactly!
I actually have my own conspiracy theory that reason Shane even got canceled was because someone was trying to keep him quiet and stop him from exposing the truth
@@echostarr4745its not a conspiracy theory, ITS THE TRUTH!👏🏼
I know a TJ Max when I see one, your so real for this Shane. I Love You
I am begging you to continue making conspiracy videos like this. They are so entertaining!!!
I second this vote!!!!! I miss these type of Shane vids. I’m not so into the podcasts.idky. MORE CONSPIRACY VIDEOS not podcast
Dude that is crazy!
I used to work at BBW and when we get returns me damaged them right then
The company no longer does this -sincerely BBW employee
Wow that’s insane! BBW used to have such a great return policy they’d take anything back at anytime so I bet that lady kept her old wallflowers and did a swap to get the new ones for free.
i just googled "bbw wallflowers" because i had no idea what you were talking about and omg that's scary and dangerous
Did anybody else get the freaking goosebumps here in that intro music? I LOVE YOU SHANE. I have watched you since I was 14. I am 30
as someone who works at a Tj Maxx, whenever we have makeup that we sell, we cannot return it. under any circumstances. makeup that we find that has been touched or damaged or tampered with in any sort, we are told to completely destroy and markout.
It probably changes depending on the location.
That’s what anyone would say at this max 😭
I feel so bad that people who aren't in good financial positions are basically forced to buy from discount stores and this is how they treat them
NO ONE matches Shane & Jeffree with how AMAZING they’re when they get together & also icons. They’re STILL a power house dou!
The fact that you can even return opened makeup is WILD to me. You can’t do that in the UK. I’ve even been refused a return for UNOPENED makeup!
Even Walgreens, one of our Boots equivalents, takes back opened cosmetics.
I’m pretty sure it depends on the place. The UK has consumer laws in place that allow for returns of these things. Some places have “love it or your money back” policies. I do believe Superdrug used to accept returns on makeup but I’m not sure about currently
yeahh same i didnt know u can do that?! Maybe u cant do that in europe?
I’m a operations supervisor for CVS HEALTH and we accept make up back and most of our products but they do get damaged out by me and other supervisors & managers have to do them one by one they get individually sealed and they get shipped out to get destroyed. All this does make me wonder what does happen after they get sent out if anything nefarious happens when they’re being shipped by distributors to get destroyed.
this deserves so much attention. this is absolutely crazy. Thank you shane and everyone for showing the truth.
Chris: “You CAN’T give that to somebody”
Shane: “No, you SELL it to them… at a discount 😄”
I almost died from using make up from a discount store my skin started to have bumps everywhere and they didn’t know what was wrong with me in the hospital thank you Shane for doing this my life was endangered over makeup
Did they ever figure out what caused the reaction?
@@beautifulmayhem1086 the make up I used cuz I told them I used makeup from a discount store and they looked at each other and tested me of everything
I’m subscribed and have the bell rung and never got notified of these last two conspiracy videos.
