    Great video! Good to see that they attempted to keep some service running into Grand Central and not just shut down the line completely between Quuensboro Plaza and Times Square.

    One thing I have to say? And this is so true....When the 7 has no issues? Service is great. But when the 7 has problems? It is total FUBAR! Lol. That is the problem being isolated from the A division I guess

    • @TRRailfan
      @TRRailfan 3 года назад +1

      @@UltimateAzumanger I think he meant that trains have pretty much no way to reroute, a train couldn’t use the BMT because then where would it go to let passengers off? It’s isolated enough to be really bad if there’s an issue somewhere. At least most of the line has 3 tracks which helps.

    This makes me think of the New York magazine article about October 15, 2015 (I remember when it happened!), when a loose bolt in a gap filler at Union Square (among a host of other daily stuff) caused 625+ delays or rerouting on the 4/5/6 trains.

    This years worst subway line goes to the
    (7) Again for 4 years in a row
    This years crowded subway line goes to the
    (4)(5)(6) train for 60 years
    This years smelliest subway line goes to the
    (E)
    This years fastest subway line goes to the
    All of the 7th AV line

    If the rail is broken under the Steinway Tube Tunnel under the East River, why were there no services between Times Square and Grand Central?

    • @TheRailLeaguer

      Railfan 0734 One Track was taken out of service because of the broken rail. Single tracking between Times Sq and Grand Central would cause dangerous levels of crowding at all affected stations.

    Great video.
    I have a question that I always wonder...
    I have to commute to Chambers St every day and I take the 1 uptown and then the 2/3. Everytime the express trains pass Canal Train they always reduce their speed and go slow until Chambers. But the 1 never does that. Do you know why? is there a speed limit for the express trains in that section from Canal to Chambers.

    • @DJHTransport
      @DJHTransport  8 лет назад +1

      +Pedro Luis Torres There are signals called "grade timers" that are intended to force the train operators on express trains to slow down before entering Chambers St. These signals stay red for a set amount of time, before turning green.
      If the train operator goes too fast, he/she will pass the signal while it is still red, triggering the emergency brakes. While this in theory is meant to slow the trains down to a safe speed for the area, the timer signals start too far north of Chambers St station and force trains to slow down to a speed that is wayyy below the safety margin.

    I used to work on 33rd st- Rawson Ave so I got accustomed to spotty 7 train service at times. Any delay between Times Sq to Queensboro Plz was detrimental to the service and, coming from St. Lawrence Ave on the 6 line my transfer was at Grand Central. Well with all the delays and trains sometimes not running to Queens I skipped the 7 train all together and took the N or Q on over

    • @DJHTransport

    I hate taking the train as it is, but I have to say though the 7 line is by far the worst to ride on. When rush hour comes around and you have to get somewhere, you really have no choice but to stuck it up and get on. Waiting on the next train will not make the slightest difference what so ever.

    I thought of a Issue Just like this The QueensBoro Tunnel Had to be fixed So W Trains would run as Shuttles Between QueensBoro Plaza And Astoria N Trains would terminate At 96 Street And R Trains would run Via The M line

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 5 лет назад

      Abdoulie Ceesay Well if anything, they would do this:
      (N): Runs In two sections:
      -Between Coney Island and 57th Street, then via the Q to 96th Street.
      -Between Queensboro Plaza and Astoria-Ditmars
      (R): Service is rerouted via the Q from 57th Street to Lex-63rd, then vía the F to 36th Street.
      (W): service operates between Whitehall Street and Lexington Avenue - 59th Street.
      That’s what they did a few years back.

    What causes a rail to break?

    • @DJHTransport
      @DJHTransport  8 лет назад +1

      +Dan g The weight of trains constantly passing over the rail contributes to metal fatigue, which can cause the rail to break. Sometimes, rails can have flaws in their construction that can lead to an break.

    They should of put 7 trains in two sections. Between grand central and 34st, and between grand central and main st

      For service to further stations, transfer at grand central to a 34st bound train

    Rail condition? What condition? It’s not acceptable to let that happen during such rush hour! Can’t believe this happened in the first tier city of the number one country in the world! Lucky that I was not using the 7 train.
    Living in Flushing, I need to rely on 7 and F everyday. I have to say that around Mets it’s the worst. Trains always do 10 mph going in and out there.
    Even the third tier city in the third world country won’t let this kind of service interruption happen. Come on, America.

    Its only gonna get worse as more and more parts of the subway continue to age and the city and state leave it to do so and they only fix rails when they break.

      +Joseph Davis There are a bunch of initiatives that the MTA is taking to be more proactive about rail breaks and other infrastructure issues. I think it'll translate in to some significant progress

    MTA: ##### please! if I have a normal train why have the specifics to transport the rail workers?

    • @TheRailLeaguer

      Null 42 You do realize that the MTA has a special set of trains that they use for work service. These yellow consists of cars no longer in revenue service (though some stainless steel R32s pop up here and there).
