I believe the clutch was not used as a clutch it was only used to transfer power to the transmission pulley which had a long drive belt down to the transmission which had its own drive clutch.
@@grandpadansfixit2080 I found a video that was eleven years old. That showed a pull-behind combine from the 1930s. It was quite the impressive old relic. Yet it was in full working order in the video. You can definitely hear the distinct sound of the old Ford four banger working away.
