📚 History:
Lacoste is a historical village in Provence, France, that has traces of human presence from the prehistoric and Roman times. It was a shelter for the Vaudois, a religious group that was massacred in 1545 by the Baron of Oppède in a brutal crusade . The village is also known for its castle, which belonged to the Simiane family, a noble lineage of Provence, and later to the Marquis de Sade, a scandalous writer and philosopher who escaped to Italy after being sentenced to death. The castle was partly ruined in 1779 and was plundered by the locals, but it was restored by Pierre Cardin, a renowned fashion designer, who also founded a cultural festival in Lacoste. The festival features various artistic events and performances every summer. Lacoste also has an art school, the Savannah Art College, which was established by an American artist in the 1970s. The school offers courses in different artistic disciplines, such as painting, sculpture, photography, and printmaking.
🛶 Things to do:
You can visit the castle of the Marquis de Sade, a controversial writer and philosopher, and enjoy the view of the Luberon valley. You can also explore the medieval heritage of the village, such as the churches, fountains, abbeys, and passageways. In the summer, you can attend the Lacoste Festival, a cultural event organized by Pierre Cardin, a renowned fashion designer. You can taste the delicious Provençal cuisine, such as mediterranean fish, rosé wines, summer fruits, olive oil, fougasses, ratatouille, lamb from La Crau, goat or sheep’s milk bush, calissons, shuttles or nougats. You can find many restaurants and cafés in the village or nearby.

Thanks for visiting!😊🌸🌼 It is around 200 km, around 2:30 hour by car from Aix-en-Provence. There is no direct connection by bus, but you can take ZOU transport bus no. 909 to Roussillon, one of the most beautiful villages in France and then bus no. 918 from Roussillon to Lacoste😊
