Now that I think back to the anime's plot, I feel like there are similarities between Elfen Lied and Stranger Things. I'm thinking more of the characters with their supernatural abilities and how the government is using it to their advantage. Then looked I it up and apparently Elfen Lied was one of the primary inspirations of Eleven in Stranger Things. Totally blew my mind and makes me kind of sad because Elfen lied isn't as popular and not a lot of people would have caught noticed (imo).

When Netflix did have this anime up, I was in elementary school at the time. I never forgotten the emotions or impacted it left me, im 20 an still appreciate this anime. Thank you Elfen Lied, lilium for expressing the pain that shatters the soul and beauty that makes u feel at peace.
In a sense you have the opportunity to do so. The story of her suffering is not unique. You are surrounded by a lot of people who suffer and crave at least a little love. If you are brave enough, change someone's fate and give them relief from the endless nightmare of reality.

I knew while watching it that it's not "objectively" an outstanding anime, I saw and thought about many of its flaws, but at the same time, I was completely okay with the flaws being there. It created such a vibe for me with its themes and more or even more insane characters and events that I just loved it. I can totally see how someone wouldn't like it cause like I said it's not all that amazing. But the anime just resonated with me as if I was a radio tuned right onto its frequency.

For as long as I have lived, this is truly the most beautiful piece of music I ever heard. Haunting and sorrowful. This is sang in a piercing cry, a despondent lament. Like someone who grieves over their own life. Much like how Lucy is a child in this anime, and has witnessed cruel acts and been betrayed, which caused her pain and suffering. This song is a perfect reflection of that deplorable reality. She cannot forgive herself for the pain she has inflicted on others, and so believes that she deserves her punishment. This is the burning feeling of guilt, anger, fear, despair and loneliness. All that misery is encapsulated into a song.
My mother passed away 11 years ago, in 2013. Months before her passing, I shared this song with her because she was a professional singer, and now that song fills me with nostalgia and makes me want to cry.

There were a lot of details that weren't shown in the anime. If you care about the characters, especially Lucy/Nyu, you'll 99% cry by the last book. I wonder why certain scenes played out the way they did. The end of the manga will leave a deep hole in your heart. The manga is really, really good in my opinion.

The manga is one of my favorites, this theme still gives me chills despite the anime adaptation essentially only telling a *very* abbreviated first half of the entire story. A good friend of mine and I were on a High School music trip and we started singing a duet of Lilium on our tour bus. Our music teacher was pretty struck by the beauty of the piece and it’s still a memory my friend and I both share and cherish to this day.
As usual, the anime is a simple adaptation where three quarters of the story is missing, but since there's good music, the producers thought that most people would overlook this detail ?

Though unless they get a new writer to make an anime only story since the manga is so bad now, they can only shoulder so much. Elden lied is one of the few instances I reject the manga actively so much.
This Anime left me in tears, Broken, Hope, love and Despair in the whole series. I still love it overall with its serious tones. I've seen the Anime and the Manga multiple times.

This has to be one of the few anime openings that I think is so beautiful and tragic. This song kind of reminds me of Diva's song in Blood+. Both songs are underrated, and I love them both.❤❤❤

Lucy was Borderline Personality Disorder meets Dissociative Identity Disorder incarnate. I really wanted to see a redemption arc storyline for her, knowing how much abuse she had suffered, eventually turning her violently homicidal.

That being said I do worry if they'd ruin things and cancel culture is terrible nowadays but I'm a risk taker, especially when something wasn't finished that deserves it's tale to be finished, especially to bring back some of our favorite characters. Heck, it's more than just violence and nudity imo so honestly it would be justified regardless, though some of the symbolism would be removed depending on how or what would be censored. (Note, I'm not talking about fan service but scenes that have symbolism via bloodshed or some nudity that isn't for sake of fan service, like ones showing how terrible people are and treating diclonius like animals.)

Still don't know how I feel about this. It's definitely touching, though - the anime and the song. It does capture something, not sure what exactly. I would describe it as the feeling, mostly the main male character would have, of realizing you lost a huge part of your life (meaning friends, memories, relationships) and something beautiful, at least for you, and horrific at the same time in it.
To be fair it’s cuz I was like 5 when it aired so I experienced it pretty young but rewatching it as an adult is a whole other experience. I think lots of people will watch something as a kid and then not again, but as kids we overlook and are unable to comprehend so many important details of such mature media, so I always try to go back and rematch it as an adult. I’ve always found that the story hits a million times harder years later because I don’t miss so many key pieces of the stories.
Yeah, if anyone says anime is for kids...........Don't show them this one. This is barely safe for adults. Inuyasha, Naruto, D. Grayman, Fullmetal alchemist, and Bleach are better starters. Starters in how they are NOT for children.

Inuyasha was my very first anime. I’d watch it on tv on Saturdays since I was about 3-4. Im 25 now and it’s still one of my favourite animes of all time. I loved the mangas as a kid too. I used to pretend to be inuyasha and kagome when I’d play. Of course at that age I didn’t comprehend a lot of the more mature themes of the anime, but I think I’d consider it a decent all ages anime although some scenes were very eerie and slightly frightening for me as a kid, but I was a fan of horror movies.

@@Bankai_Musashi1 Yes. Absolutely. The manga has 12 books. The anime covers the first 7. The art style of the manga was pretty ugly at the beginning, but that didn't bother me too much. There were a lot of details that weren't shown in the anime. If you care about the characters, especially Lucy/Nyu, you'll 99% cry by the last book. I wonder why certain scenes played out the way they did. The end of the manga will leave a deep hole in your heart. The manga is really, really good in my opinion.

The manga is one of my favorites, this theme still gives me chills despite the anime adaptation essentially only telling a *very* abbreviated first half of the entire story.
A good friend of mine and I were on a High School music trip and we started singing a duet of Lilium on our tour bus. Our music teacher was pretty struck by the beauty of the piece and it’s still a memory my friend and I both share and cherish to this day.
As usual, the anime is a simple adaptation where three quarters of the story is missing, but since there's good music, the producers thought that most people would overlook this detail ?

Though unless they get a new writer to make an anime only story since the manga is so bad now, they can only shoulder so much.

I remember telling my classmates (all German peeps) about this anime when I wa like 12 or so... The laughed because in German Elfen Lied means " Elv Song" so basically they thought it's a cutesy anime. 😭
I mean... In-universe Elfenlied *is* a kids song. It's kind of on purpose since the anime and manga are permeated with false innocence and lost innocence.

That being said I do worry if they'd ruin things and cancel culture is terrible nowadays but I'm a risk taker, especially when something wasn't finished that deserves it's tale to be finished, especially to bring back some of our favorite characters. Heck, it's more than just violence and nudity imo so honestly it would be justified regardless, though some of the symbolism would be removed depending on how or what would be censored. (Note, I'm not talking about fan service but scenes that have symbolism via bloodshed or some nudity that isn't for sake of fan service, like ones showing how terrible people are and treating diclonius like animals.)

It does capture something, not sure what exactly. I would describe it as the feeling, mostly the main male character would have, of realizing you lost a huge part of your life (meaning friends, memories, relationships) and something beautiful, at least for you, and horrific at the same time in it.
It's about selflessly showing love and forgiveness to those who need it most. I can't think of any better message than that.

To be fair it’s cuz I was like 5 when it aired so I experienced it pretty young but rewatching it as an adult is a whole other experience. I think lots of people will watch something as a kid and then not again, but as kids we overlook and are unable to comprehend so many important details of such mature media, so I always try to go back and rematch it as an adult. I’ve always found that the story hits a million times harder years later because I don’t miss so many key pieces of the stories.

Inuyasha was my very first anime. I’d watch it on tv on Saturdays since I was about 3-4. Im 25 now and it’s still one of my favourite animes of all time. I loved the mangas as a kid too. I used to pretend to be inuyasha and kagome when I’d play. Of course at that age I didn’t comprehend a lot of the more mature themes of the anime, but I think I’d consider it a decent all ages anime although some scenes were very eerie and slightly frightening for me as a kid, but I was a fan of horror movies.
