You're so right. I loved "Shoplifters", I loved "Roma" and I thought "Burning" was well done and creeps up on you. I'm about to watch "Cold War" (can't wait). I also watched a Lebanese film called "Capernaum" last night - which is probably the best film I've seen in the past year. There are so many amazing foreign films out there.
If you're reading this, then you have to watch this movie you just have to. I rarely call movies masterpieces but Cold War is freaking genius. I'm Polish so maybe I'm not entirely objective and I took this movie in a very personal way, but no film has made such an impact on me in 2018. It's beautiful cinematography, excellent music, perfect and subtle acting from the finest Polish actors makes it the best freaking movie of the year and I believe the best Polish movie in decades. Go buy your ticket and spend every penny on this because it's worth it!!

I watched the movie last night and it indeed lives up to the hype. Dramatic, romantic, tragic. Just beautiful. If 60s French new wave cinema and Milos Forman had a baby.
This film brings warmth to my heart as I'm kinda living in the same era. There is no free speech under the oppression of the dictator, we are banned from watching US television news (CNN for example), I can't open up telling people what I believe in and what not, children are forced to sing for the "leader" and his images are everywhere on the streets. I am only able to write this in English not in my mother language. I can't relate more but really it brings me hope that everything would change in the future.
Landon Le i did watched ROMA and Shoplifters in Festival Screening in Venice, it was dull, to much overhyped just because it was supposed to be Alfonso Cuaron's greatest picture. Even The Guilty and Boder were much better than ROMA

I watched ROMA first and it was good, and then I watched COLD WAR, and for me there is no question which movie is better. ROMA will probably win the Oscar but in 20 years nobody will want to watch it and people will want to see COLD WAR for generations, because it is that good, see and judge it for yourself! Roma made history with having an indigenous woman in the leading role. I watched Cold War and Roma and comparing them makes no sense because they have nothing in common besides being black and white. So no. In 20 years, people will still talk about Roma. Maybe not to you or your people, but for brown Latinos, it was a huge deal and important and historic. Goodbye!

Aliphsi H i don’t think it’s overhyped. my criticism of Roma is that it would have been better if directed by a woman because there was aspects of it I found to be shown from the male perspective. But all in all, Yalitza was amazing and her performance took my breath away. The movie was about her life and I found it beautiful. Maybe other people don’t care about seeing an ingenious woman and her life, but I loved watching her. What she represents is so important to me and many others.

I watched this movie yesterday and it's GLORIOUS. The acting, story, visuals, soundtrack, everything is sheer perfection.

Watched it in the theater at 8 am after staying up all night. Not to fall asleep turns out to be an excellent choice. A greatly touching film.
