It's even more chilling when you find out the bear is Koda's mother, and is looking for her child. It's what she's saying when she's roaring and vocalizing. Kenai is in pursuit of an innocent bear out of anger and grief over his brother's death. But Sitka sacrificed himself with plunging his spear into the glacier, to save his brothers. So it was never really the bear to blame. And, different bear than Koda's mom!
Yea, Koda’s mom tried to lead him away from the area so Koda would be safe, even then she also didn’t wanna fight she always fled but of course ended up with no choice since he kept persuing her and eventually cornered her. Before that she also didn’t wanna fight and was just trying to scare Kenai off when he had her backed up against the glacier, but I’m sure when she saw the other two brothers, who only arrived to help their other brother, she might’ve thought they were trying to hunt her as a group so she figured to fight them off
1:15 to 1:20 is the best part in this scene. Kenai is ready for a fight until Koda’s mom stands on her hind legs, that brief gasp of fear Kenai lets out upon seeing just how big she is was an incredible, realistic detail.
Honestly, it's not surprising to learn the bear was Koda's mother (I understood thay when I saw the movie as an adult) because female can be very agressive when they want to protect their cubs
At this point, there are two points of view we can choose to go with; we can go with Kenai's first - he was clearly grieving the death of his older brother. Grieve can make people act out without thinking. Kenai was angry at the bear, because in his mind, Sitka only made the glacier break _because_ of the bear. But Sitka had broken it because he wanted to keep his brothers safe, he didn't want any of them to die. When Sitka looks at the mother's body in sadness, it's because he's seeing that his brother's grieve and anger had taken something that didn't need to be. It's what makes the story telling scene at the Salmon Run so impactful in terms of Kenai's character development. When Koda tells the story of how his mother had been fighting hunters, and she fell off a glacier, it sucker punches Kenai with the realisation that, not only had he killed a bear without reason, but _he_ was the reason Koda's mother is dead. He's met with the realisation that he's orphaned an innocent bear cub, because his mother was trying to protect him from the hunters. It's from this point that Kenai's perception of bears breaks completely; whereas before, like the other members of his village, he saw bears as monsters - but now, he's really rethinking this whole mindset. Because he's seen it first hand that, just like humans, bears will do anything to protect those they love. Especially if it's a child. *_So who's really the monster in this story?_*
Plus Kenai was going on an vengeance rampage searching for the bear who he thought killed his brother, Sitka but he was one to sacrificed himself from Koda mother so his two brothers won’t get killed. Look at Denai, when he thinks Kenai got killed by he thinks by Kenai now as a bear, he was grieving, alone, and vengeful. Vengeance ain’t a laughing matter really, once vengeance takes over you’re not that person anymore till you accomplish to get that person who hurt or killed your love one or friends. Plus vengeance brings consequences and that what happened to Kenai when he killed Koda mom, Sitka was sadden and disgusted how Kenai killed Koda mom, so his pushniment is to be turn into a bear and learn what bears are like and what really means of love.
Even if the basket WAS tied up, the bear would’ve still smelt the fish and would’ve either climbed to get it or just use its strength to knock the tree down

From kenai's perspective he saw bear as mindless beast terrorizing anything in its path and Slaughtering everyone in the way, but from bears perspective, she is just overprotective mother, looking for her child. Once you become sad of loss and holding grudge against something and someone that killed him(wich in this situation wasn't true since sitka didn't beaked glacier beacuse of the bear but beacuse for his brothers protection) can make someone crazy and mindless, but once you finaly kill the person or example animal you got nothing in the end, you just killed living being, and you didn't bringed your family or anyone close to U back to life
I re-watched the film a while ago and I noticed something that I didn't as a teenager. When the bear was closing in on Kenai and Denahi, Sitka deliberately broke off the glacier and allowed himself and the bear to fall. Sitka sacrificed himself to save his brothers. But Kenai, blinded by grief and anger, unjustly blamed the bear for his brother's death. His revenge, like any other, was for nothing.

I have to say you can compare Kenai with Shere Khan from Disney’s classic Jungle Book (1967). Shere Khan hates humans because he considers them dangerous monsters, and Kenai hates bears because he considers them dangerous monsters. So, Kenai gets transformed into a bear so he can learn the lesson to see things through a bear’s perspective and then realize how wrong he was, as to say. BUT!
