    I love Dr. Delony! I also started focusing more on how I feel when I consistently workout vs. how I look. This has shifted my mindset and made it easier to return to the gym after missing a week … or 3 weeks. And when I’m feeling really crappy, I now make sure I go to the gym instead of falling back into my old habit of drinking or impulse shopping. I’m starting to see improvement in my physique, which is a plus.

    Generosity is the ultimate prepper tool. ... at about 50-min mark Dr. Delony does such a god job of explaining how the greatest way to prepare for the worst situation is to develop a tribe of people you can count on when things get hard. ... Make yourself useful, build a strong family, integrate into a positive supporting community.

    • @elnegritolamar4689
      @elnegritolamar4689 5 месяцев назад +3

      I think he was emphasizing that being a part of strong community will benefit more than have 50 mil in the bank if ish hits the fan. His main point was the best way to prepare for the worst is to not worry about it. He used the example of his banker friend who said "he will worry about it when it happens." I agree though being a part of a strong community you can trust is worth it's weight in gold.

    In marriage you should start by combining 10-20% of your incomes in a joint account. You will need this for bills , etc anyway. Then as the years go by, increase that slowly, and stop at whatever number you both feel comfortable with. Overtime, as you deepen the trust in your marriage, I think you’ll find both people start to feel more comfortable with the option they didn’t like at first. You may end up sharing everything or you may end up sharing only 25%. But I think it helps you organically get to your best place as you build trust over time. This is what my wife and I do .

    I remember times when my parents would have problems. My mother finally learned to drive. My father would say they didn't have the money to do something they needed to do and then she would show him the budget, then things were ok. He didnt accept it until my brother's girlfriend asked him "would you rather your sister be with someone you know and trust, or someone you dont know anything about?" From that day on we had his blessing. They stopped being close for a long time but they still get along very well. He probably never thought our relationship would last this long. I don’t know anyone who has had a long successful marriage that hasn’t had at least one time that if they could they would just get up and leave. I loved this whole conversation. One thing i would like to add about the shared account for marriage, my parents have been married for 35 years and they never merged accounts. They've always had separate accounts and that's how they prefer it. I don't think the merged accounts is an absolute thing, it is not a metric of a successful marriage honestly.

    Graham your mindset is exactly why marriage is not taken seriously anymore. Marriage is a big deal it is a life commitment. I personally don't agree with divorce and I am not religious it is because it creates the initial mindset that this huge decision isn't permanent therefore making your investment into the decision less informed. People used to take dating seriously to find a wife/husband. They used to actually self reflect as to am I worthy of being a husband/wife because of the traditional roles that meant. When you erode all of that then you get high divorce rates and more my money mentality. To enter a marriage with the idea of "well incase I want to leave let's make this as uncomplicated as possible" is proof your fiance shouldn't marry you.

    "How do you get over that?" (scarcity mindset). A lot of people who grew up middle/lower income saw and felt the fear but never really experienced rock bottom. They only grew up on the fear and scent of a financial predator over the hill. Rock bottom (in USA) is utilities cut, begging for food cash, bouncing checks, eviction, etc and this rock bottom is not experienced by most middle/lower, "we were sooooo poor when I grew up" types like John describes the groceries. So how does the middle/lower man get over the fear - he needs to realize that at my definition of rock bottom you still live and life still goes on and opportunities still exist. The financial bro epidemic and scarcity/anxiety masses came from middle/lower people who caught scent of rock bottom but never actually experienced it. If they did they wouldn't be so cowardly with their money and so boring to be around.

    One way to get some comfort with less is to practice. Go camping, start with a motor home, then do some backpacking . . If you know you could make a camp fire, boil water, survive in some way, you might be less stressed about the zombie apocalypse. Another form of that is travel, particularly to foreign countries.

    I’m old enough to remember when the average person had maybe one credit card, the minimum payment was far more than today and car loans maxed out at three years with at cash down payment of 20%. Easy to get credit has caused all of this and is the glue that backstops our economy.

    John got his Bachelor of Arts in humanities and psychology at Lubbock Christian University and his Masters of Education in higher education administration from Texas Tech University.
    He did not go to Harvard. He just got his Education Management certification.
    That is not even close to a Harvard Psychologist.

    Just a heads up, I usually listen on Apple Podcasts and I don't know if you've listened but the audio mix on Apple is horrible.
    It's so unbelievably quit that I have to blast my volume in order to hear it.
    Every other podcast is set to like 10 in my car and yours has to be cranked to like 40 to hear it.
