He wasn't wrong. You can legitimately buy a house in Detroit for actually $12 though. They're called "dollar homes". The city sells those homes for a dollar so they can generate tax revenue for that property.
Dakota Hall the 1st and only Black Mayor of NYC David Dinkins was the 1st to do that in the early 90's you could buy a brownstone in Harlem for $1 or $5...they now sell for over 1 mill!
Right now I live in a brownstone in Harlem that my father bought for $1 before he passed away. I get offers for it, but the house has sentimental value to me.

This kid is making a video JUST to get views and money and HIS point across. He is buff at the same time. He is a very vain person like EVERYONE else. This is the type of dude that says . . . "Dad, let me make my own mistakes" . . when Dad is actually giving you the damn blueprint to success, so you won't have to make those dumb mistakes.
And my immediate question would be is he successful? I.E implementing what hes saying and making it a physical reality rather than just talk which is what we get alot from the older generations who tend to have nothing tangible to show for all the talk
When you interrupt your dad, he sits quietly. When your dad interrupts you, you’re rude to him. I like your dad, I wanna hear him talk. Let him talk, if he’s trying to impart wisdom let him do it. Also I agree with your dad 100%.
I agree with his dad too but I'm not saying he's wrong. He's actually right. Our generation doesn't understand that the word nigga and nigger have the same meaning. But what he was saying is that its cool to say "wassup my nigga" to your friends but in reality its not because even if its ok with you, theres still people that get offended by it. So really he is wrong.
I agree it is rude to interrupt his dad but it’s a father and son relationship. The son is trying to get out ideas to the wise father to figure it out and the wise father already knows his views. The father contains the wisdom and the son is trying to find the truth. The father wants to hear what his son thinks and the son wants to show he knows what he’s talking about. It’s a maturity thing. Not saying the son is necessarily ‘immature’, but i hope u get the point.
He not being disrespectful to his father. He is very respectful to his father wisdom. I have a very similar relationship with my 16 year old son. when he has something to say I listen because I know he's looking for my approval when I disagree with him he doesn't take offense to it. this is how father-son relationships are supposed to be... beautiful
One time when I was younger my sister and I were laughing at a plummer because his pants were sagging and we saw his ass crack my mom heard and she went on about "you never know that might be his only pair of pants times are tough you gotta learn now how to save your money" etc etc, I was like dang it was one joke i'm sorry!
Idk. I think dad missed a lil point. "If we keep calling eachother nword that's all they'll see us as"......i think jzay meant, no matter what they'll still hate cuz you're black.
His father just has a different perspective.. and that shouldn’t discredit either point of view. A generational gap does not mean either party is wrong in having a different take away from a music video about racism. I’m afraid you’re missing the point 🤷♀️
@@masicom9621 the song was written by Jay Z who is 50 ? The message is probably unclear to a lot of youngers, you can always learn about shit online tho, why are you so fucking angry 😂😂go have some warm milk and snuggle your blankey
Rest In Peace to your Dad man… this is one of my favorite reaction videos. They way he broke down this song was very intelligent, I learned a lot from him. Rest easy man… 🕊🕊
actually he did say it like that if u put yourself down and get pushed around as cops and people that are against blacks then you have to stance the way they are and be like I am who I am it is at 5:45 if you listen to it and think about it you will understand it. People will try to push you down but you have to stand straight and its saying as for them not to boss you around
I've just watched the elders react video where they completely missed the point n god it pissed me off. Makes them seem rly dumb when this guy gets it right from the start
You're a lucky guy for having such a wise dad. I hope you'll maintain a good relationship with him in the future, not trying to imply any tension between you two, just saying that he's a person to look up to and I'm sure he'll help you when you'll have kids of your own. Take care of yourself, you two.
Every now and then I'd come to this channel to hear your dad impart some wisdom. I was looking through the comments and saw that he has passed and my jaw dropped! He was truly a gem: a wise, caring, role model. I'm sorry for your loss. 😢
I feel like the Son doesn’t understand anything, he only likes the beat. But the dad is wise and understands. You should listen to him, don’t be rude to him.
@@firebreathercat133 yeah but still Thier are people out Thier making rap music and all types of music that they want to put meaning in too. So it's like being ignored. Sometimes they have to put beats into something that's trying to make the audience learn or else they wouldn't watch it at all it would just be some kind of boring shit talk about shit that's wrong.
selestialfighter yo you have an instagram, i want to look into buying a building or house as well n wanted to talk to you about it seeing you’re the most recent who got one on here lol
If the N word don't mean shit... Go to any random ass hood, walk up to any random ass black guy in his 20's to 30's and try to say that shit non challantly and I bet you, if your tone of skin is white or you look white you walking out of that situation is definitely not how you think it's gonna go
They are if you dig deeper, the beat has a sample from Nina Simone - Four Women, a powerful song from a powerful person that correlates directly with the song. The hook... well, you watched the video
Yes it is lmao a message in hip hop without a good song or beat is pretty much pointless. It’s how you convey it into a hip hop song that translates to people. Music shouldn’t be graded on how potent it’s political message is yeah that’s something to be considered and it’s part of the song, but you’re acting like the beat and hook aren’t worth acknowledging which is pretty disrespectful to No ID and Jay, every piece of the song and music video was specifically used to paint this picture, if your favorite part of the song is the message that’s fine but acting like it’s universally the most important thing just isn’t true. Illmatic has plenty of topical thought provoking shit, but you don’t hear people saying it’s the best rap album ever bc of the messaging, it’s the production and writing coming together. If you think messaging is the driving force behind good music then it doesn’t even seem like you should like hip hop more then any other genre. You could listen to the wall and read the lyrics along with it and get a long deep experience full of messages
its crazy that YOUR biggest reaction is to the LEAST important bar throughout this whole song. And pops looking at you because you completely missed the point. you just hearing, u not listening.
Felix Gonzales that second part you said wasn’t what it was about. At least to me I thought it was trying to say you can’t be more than a N**** unless you stop calling yourself and your peers that. Because people get hung up on it and if you still calling each other that then you still gonna get racism! If the word no longer is said and holds no meaning then you aren’t gonna have any problems from it. So once people move past it then the world can move on from such a time where racism was awful. His dad got that part too
@@liammilne2242 no it wasn't he clearly criticized that idea when he mentioned OJ saying "I'm not black I'm OJ" and then proceeds to go on saying "light N, dark N.......still N" doesn't matter how rich you are you're still just a N to someone somewhere

Dumbo is a neighborhood in the borough of Brooklyn D.U.M.B.O its a term for Down Under the Manhattan Bridge Overpass which was at one time rundown cheap property now it's worth alot more and luxurious he's saying he was dumb like disney's character "Dumbo" for passing on that investment years ago its a double entendre Yall on the (gram) holding money to your ear, theres a (disconnect), we dont (call) that money over here, another double entendre "gram"/ instagram could also be a reference to telephone inventor (Alexander "Graham" Bell) too which could be another play on the word "Gram/Graham" regarding the "money phone" gesture that Jay is rapping about which could be a triple entendre Jay has great wordplay 💯🔥
You don't see the n word negative because you're from a different generation that that word is almost a term of endearment to your friends and your dad is from a time when it was said it was used in a derogative way towards black people.
yea but if you were to call someone a faggot, meaning it in a derogatory way or not, it is still offensive. You can not change the context of a word and say it has a different meaning.
Clinton Outten Go back to E.P.'s argument, if you guys feel we can use that word then don't act ignorant when these white folks use it, cause they can say they using it as a term of endearment for us
I think if you're causing your brother (or in this case your dad and his generation) pain through the use of a word you view as innocent, it should be enough to make you stop saying it! It may not be a big deal to a lot of people, but it's a very big deal to many others. I'm white so I've never had to deal with being called that, but I do feel pain for others when they are called it even in the non-chalant "hey man" kind of way. If it's a big deal to my black brothers then it's a big deal to me. Romans 14:13-23
I think it can be used as a term of endearment amongst black people, a way of reclaiming it, demeaning its original connotations but again it still does carry the weight of hatred for a lot of people also. And I don't think it probably will as an issue resolve itself. There's definitely as a black teenager, contexts and times where I've used it and it doesn't feel right or it does carry that negative weight and other times where I haven't felt that. I think it's unlikely that there will be a resolution of this as an issue, I think across generations and upbringings there needs to be an understanding to why people in those demographics feel that its use is appropriate or inappropriate
yeh, he should also ally to his dad to beat the crap out of this guy. If I ever interupt or say "hold up" to my dad that way, he would hit me so hard in the face that i would be sticking a toothbrush up my ass to brush my teeth for the rest of my life
Us young people don't really see the power of the word because we're so far removed from it and protected from it in a sense. Listen to your father because he's heard it and seen it. Being younger and in a more nuanced generation, we could hear and see the same things and not even know what's actually going on until it's too late.
Honestly I actually think he didn't understand what Jay Z whas talking about. Jay Z was saying no matter how much you change or try to separate yourself from the culture your still a nigga. Like in the song its says "OJ like I'm not black, I'm OJ
All I know is that the word has no power over me and never will, but if you treat something as simple as a word like it life and death than it has all the power in the world and that's the real shame.
I mean... nah. it's about black folks being freed from slavery and "freed" from racism. but that shit still exists. to most white people black people are still just the N word.
Everyone is trashing on the son in the comments, I just think he can't find the right words. But the dad and son both make good points based on their own perspectives of the world.
@Philip mcgrath yep, from black people it's a sign of deep seated self hatred... You find those that operate using that word have major colourism issues that further damage our communities
@Philip mcgrath I really didn’t get the son point, I greet my friends as other family with (nigga) but if a white person comes up to me in say “wassup my nigga” I’m gonna be offended.
Leo Candia word, the son should just do behind the scenes, editing, sound, seeing what's hot to talk about, etc. And let his pops go of, I could listen to him for hours
Leo Candia it only works because they are both there. let's keep it real. Most people will not tune in to see an older dude talk alone. need the contrasting opinion.
RIP Pops, probably the 4th time I've watched this. Your father was such an intelligent man, thank you for giving him this platform to spread his wisdom.
"Even when I was wrong I got my point across" -Biggie Old head spittin the truth, treasure and listen to your pop's words for as long as you can - that generational wisdom can change your game forever
LITTLE WALT that when someone is wrong the point they wanna make will get ther in translation he was wrong in life but niggas knew why he did his stuff rip
Your Dad comes from the generation who know the real weight of the "N" word, where it may have been aggressively shot at from different corners of society. The original annotation of the term is all that comes to mind to people like your father. People of his generation would have never wanted their children to be labled with the"N" word. The "N" word is not definitive of African American culture. They've fought so hard to break from it. Young black folk or anyone really using the word lightly only perpetuates the pain of a tough history.
Lala Anae changing the word by using it until it means nothing takes the power away though. I think the worst thing is for that word to be taken seriously.
Thank you so much for your comment. But you need to understand we don't need to label our children with the word either. Society has conformed us to label ourselves without knowing it. Nick's Dad is right in saying that we need to cut ourselves from that conformation in order to strive. And no it is not ok to be called the "N" word by people outside the black community.
Huh...listen...dont tell us how we should act as a race ok? You realize he was raised from the civil rights era meaning everyone hated that word which is why Rosa Parks for example was very skeptical on Tupac
In my irrelevant opinion I agree with EliteSniperTV. I think we see a generational gap in this video and quite frankly it is the next generation who makes tomorrow. I understand that Nick's dad comes from an era that gives the word great weight and meaning but very few people, if anyone, from the newer generations has the same kind of connection and relationship with the word as previous generations. Our generation never had to go through what Nick's dad's generation and generations before had to go through. For this reason I don't think the word will ever have the same bearing and weight on society as a whole as it did in history.
Listen to your Dad, man. You can get so much further in life if you just be quiet and listen. Your Dad is more experienced and has a broader view than you. Let him explain life to you. He has more experience being right AND wrong.
Well he's still young. His father could have been the same way at his age. although some words do change their meaning through time and not just in English, but for that word to truthly change without evoking its history it will take a lot of time and social changes that might not happened in any near future. In fact originally it only meant black in latin, as in just the color itself with no direct relation to slavery or anything racist. I agree with his dad on stop using I belive it's better to just get rid of it to wait to see if some day its present meaning(s) is forgotten, unfortunately numerous efforts had been put to change or preserve words in societies around different languages, but history just proves people can't control languages thus words. it's only through social interaction that word gain or change meaning. case in point, nowdays no one uses the word gay to mean joyful, and who says that word to whom and when, changes it's meaning.
He was saying the entire video they need to change the narrative to move past the word and this kid is not understanding what his dad is not getting it, normalizing it is not changing the narrative.
3:25 What a beautiful and eloquent way to put it. A wise man indeed. You have my deepest and sincere condolences to you and your family. He’s wisdom personified
If I speak to my dad like that, probably he would hit me so hard in the face that I would have to stick a toothbrush up my ass to brush my teeth for the rest of my life.
If you think this was disrespectful then you were raised in a mentally abusive household where your parent ruled wit dominance like i was. Good parents should have active conversations where both sides are listened to and respected
Jay-Z using the n word with the “a” ending but with the meaning of the “er” ending. So in short.. I agree with the father. Why not bury that word as a whole and call people by their actual names..
I don't agree. We already tried this saying "oh white people can't say the word" and look what's happened. Like that stopped anything and the people who don't say it are more inclined not to for fear of getting canceled instead of because it's racist or wrong. A big part of the appeal of saying the word is its exclusivity. Take away the exclusivity, change the narrative, kill the power of the word
This video popped up out of nowhere on my feed, I'm glad it did. I remember watching your videos 6 years ago and just enjoying the purity of your channel and the positive good vibes coming from it. Sadly I rushed way too quick to look at the comment section for some "nostalgia comments" but what I found was unpleasant instead. I'm deeply sorry for your loss. Life a beautiful thing. Nah bro it’s not just a cartoon! That lady playing on the piano is Eunice Waymon, professionally known as Nina Simone... do your research. Sending love from South Africa🇿🇦❤️
several of the people in the cartoon represent actual historical persons or events, its like a history lesson and a message to stop hiding behind a word and change the culture so that the younger generation of afro Americans spend their money smarter. Doing so will enable their kids to have what they did not...
isak sidenius but at the same time we can’t say that black people have a responsibility to at this day and age have the same wealth// generational wealth when white people had a whole 400 year head start// the n word is colloquial and hurts less when black ppl say sense “we’re all still niggas”
@@kinsale186 by no means, but it would not hurt the next generation if more young people of my own generation (in their 20's) spend their money smarter especially if you are gaining a lot of money quickly. If we are being very specific we all orginate from Africa but I agree that white Europeans for example (which I am a part of) have been developing our society for many hundreds of years before any afro Americans could gain any form of wealth. I mean in that sense you could also say that Europe, Asia etc. had a headstart as we have had civilizations for 2000 years before anything happened in the US.
jaboticaba ಠ You don’t have a responsibility to be better than anybody except who you were yesterday. I can’t speak for you but I didn’t come from a wealthy family and I can’t die until a wealthy family comes from me.
what his dad is saying basically, is your ancestors fought good and hard for this word to be abolished. and here you go using it as slang and what you call your home boys. 1900s blacks would be ashamed at what is considered acceptable today
True. And in addition; If you don't want people to use that word to categorize you... Using (a version of) that word amongst eachother doesn't seem to be the way forward...
thats what im talking about. in order to get respect one must respect one self. theres billions of words out there and they choose to call each other the N word? SMH...ni**as
I’m surprised no one brought up the fact that the background song is called four women by Nina Simone. The song was centered around four different women of color who have gone through their own varying types of oppression due to the varying colors of their skin, their names and their heritages. It was a truly powerful song and if you haven’t listened to it by it’s lonesome I highly recommend you listen to it. That shit sent chills down my spine

Not saying the son is necessarily ‘immature’, but i hope u get the point.
He not being disrespectful to his father. He is very respectful to his father wisdom. I have a very similar relationship with my 16 year old son. when he has something to say I listen because I know he's looking for my approval when I disagree with him he doesn't take offense to it. this is how father-son relationships are supposed to be... beautiful

You don't see the n word negative because you're from a different generation that that word is almost a term of endearment to your friends and your dad is from a time when it was said it was used in a derogative way towards black people.
E. P. You are so right.
yea but if you were to call someone a faggot, meaning it in a derogatory way or not, it is still offensive.
Your father has a lot to say, amazes me that you’re as old as you are and it seems like you’ve barely scratched the surface of his philosophy.

Lala Anae never forget Emmett till
In my irrelevant opinion I agree with EliteSniperTV. I think we see a generational gap in this video and quite frankly it is the next generation who makes tomorrow. I understand that Nick's dad comes from an era that gives the word great weight and meaning but very few people, if anyone, from the newer generations has the same kind of connection and relationship with the word as previous generations. Our generation never had to go through what Nick's dad's generation and generations before had to go through. For this reason I don't think the word will ever have the same bearing and weight on society as a whole as it did in history.
Damn, your dad is fucking amazing. I envy you having such a wise person at your side.

If I ever interrupted my dad or told him to hol up I’m finna get beat😂

Big facts
what his dad is saying basically, is your ancestors fought good and hard for this word to be abolished. and here you go using it as slang and what you call your home boys.
SMH...ni**as
@ Rebecca Coates: That quote is out of Mean Girls (2004)
Nigga shut your old ass up
Yes but that was a misguided but necessary endeavor. Once we leveled the playing it was clear how we needed to proceed.
Such a wise man. Coming back to hear his words again. Love y'all both
Legend
I’m surprised no one brought up the fact that the background song is called four women by Nina Simone. The song was centered around four different women of color who have gone through their own varying types of oppression due to the varying colors of their skin, their names and their heritages. It was a truly powerful song and if you haven’t listened to it by it’s lonesome I highly recommend you listen to it. That shit sent chills down my spine
Thank you, I didnt know that, seems interesting
It’s called a sample but besides that powerful ass song
Why is it that people would rather listen to someone else’s parent then their own
Nahlej&Wiz can’t talk to mines I can’t even get a word out before being judged
I don't have parents.

Your dad is actually right. There are tons of destroyed houses in Detroit that are on sale for $1. But you have to pay to tear the rest of the house down.
www.businessinsider.com/detroit-houses-for-1-dollar-2012-2
That's from 2012, but the houses are probably still on sale.
NYC's lower east side used to sell buildings for $1 as long as you can fix it up and get the squatters out in the 70's
Those dollar house are full of gangs
Naji Lacey Then clean em out.
Yep. I learned that years ago when Billy Dee Williams said it in MAHOGANY.
He regrets buying the v12, a car, when he could’ve put that money to better use such as a 2 mil building that’s worth 15 min now
