I agree with you! So many creators just morphe into the same lane eventually.because they are afraid to stay true to themselves and continue growing with us. They eventually become unrelatable.....

I felt like I passed an exam lol I actually do all of your tips!! My hubby has 13 uncles and aunts and plus the cousins, we host both the 24h and the 25th of December. I'm already right now prepping stuff as I feel that certain items disappear off the shelves at the grocery stores (cranberry sauce, pineapple pieces etc), I have already starter baking the sugary treats and put them in the freezer, I already bought the alcohol. His family loves our parties, even the plus ones say "I've heard about how amazing and fun your Christmas dinner and parties are" 😄

Hi Lisa, just wanted to let you know that it I enjoy all of your videos and most especially seeing your home and how you decorate. One of my very favorite things about you is that you always greet your animals when they come in the room! I do the same thing. You are so loving to them and to everyone. That’s getting harder to find anymore and I appreciate the fact that you’re being a good example of how we should treat others. ❤️❤️

The best party that I hosted was an Open House, when I bought my new home. When I bought my home, the home builder had a cleaning lady to do a make ready before I actually moved in. I got to meet her and started using her on a scheduled day to come clean my home.. When I started planning my Open House, I asked her if she ever did parties. She said yes. She came early that morning of the party, cleaned my home, then went into the bathroom to freshen up and changed clothes into black pants and blouse with a white apron. She then kept the food trays filled and cleaned the kitchen as needed. When all had left, my kitchen was spotless with all dishes cleaned. This left me to be free to visit with all the guests! The only way to go, in my book!

At the age of 67 I’ve had many types of dinner parties and cocktail parties and m biggest regret was the stress. I now don’t stress and just try to make everyone feel welcome. I think all the things you have mentioned are great advice. Few people will notice your woodwork, etc. Most folks are there to have a good time and enjoy the company.

Love all your tips Lisa ; few years ago my husband took my girls to the park on thanksgiving around 4 pm ; I had like 60 ppl ; and meet these family at the park invite them for dinner; I was ready to divorced him or kill him; I didn’t have sitting for them; and my husband told me maybe they won’t come , they were the first one at my door; I try my best to make them welcome we ate we talk we laughed I took pictures of everyone; ; the following month the guy got diagnosed with a massive brain tumor and he die like 2 weeks later ; I printed the pictures I took that dinner the wife crying and grieving told me thank you thank you for making us feel so good at your house and those pictures were that most recent pictures of him ; you never know ; I felt so bad how angry I got to my husband for inviting them few hours before dinner; we become close friends with the entire family who never going to forget that thanksgiving and my house 🙏

My New Orleans grandmother always said, "Imperfect" is perfect. She entertained all the time, and she didn't sweat the small stuff. What she noticed, no one else did. Since perfect is unattainable, don't even try. Just give entertaining your best shot. And like Lisa said, prepare in advance so you'll have a nice time. If you're not relaxed, your guests won't be either. Love ya Lisa for this video reminder and your wonderful tips!

Over the years of hosting Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve I’ve learned to do Everything as Far in Advance as possible. So technically everyone is eating leftovers & foods prepared days or weeks ahead ( i freeze homemade dinner rolls, desserts, cookies ). The less to be done the day of is such a weight off my shoulders & lessons the time crunch stress!

Great tips Lisa! I love to entertain but I use to get so stressed. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned to do things ahead and also just relax about everything. If something doesn’t get done, no one will even know.

All great pieces of advice! Love to have little appetizers set up before guests arrive and drink “stations” tea water lemonade etc so they can have as much as they want without feeling like they are bothering you asking for another drink! Through the years we all have made or seen mistakes and learn from them to me these years are the best to enjoy having dinner parties and truly enjoy your guests!

Lisa, you are so right on.
My kids said to me one time. “I hate when you have parties or people over, you are mean to us…” I felt so awful. Asking him to explain…he said “we are not allowed to eat anything you have put out or touch anything it’s no fun.” LOL So you said it girl. I change from now on. Thanks for the tips. Happy healthy new year to you and yours.

My husband and I love giving dinner parties for friends. We work as a team and I write up a game plan and timeline that starts a week in advance so nothing gets forgotten until the last minute. I think the setting is as important as the food and I get pleasure from creating beautiful tables which I finish at least the day before. We like to make the evening special for our guests as well as for ourselves. I hadn’t heard you talk about your dinner parties before but love hearing about menus and decor.

Thank you so much Lisa! What great tips and ideas!! I’m 56 and my mom died 8 years ago, and ever since I host every family holiday meal. So I really had to buckle down and learn how to do things these past few years. And still I stress about things. Just like the table scape. You really calmed me down about not being so concerned about the table decor; don’t do it just to impress. And that’s just what I’ve been stressing over and pouring over Pinterest. Well, now I’m going the 5 star restaurant route!!! Thank you Lisa ! Love ya, Cindy 🌻🎄

Thank you for sharing your tips! This was a great video!! I have one to share - whenever we are getting everyone together, people will invariably ask you "what can I bring" - and my answer is that as the host of the party, you should really make sure you have all of the main basics and special things covered and just tell them they don't need to bring a thing but themselves! BUT if someone really insists on bringing something (like a dessert or a favorite appetizer) you can let them, but make sure you're happy with your own full spread first. Gone are the days when I let different people bring a dish or a main part of the meal, because THAT alone stresses me out. I don't like dealing with the unknown of what or how much another person is bringing to the meal and whether everything will compliment the other things..💖

  • @nikkil764

Lisa, what a great video. Giving dinner parties is my all time favorite thing. My momma always taught me that the dining room is the most important room in the house. This is the stage where he lady of the house shows her appreciation to her guests and her spouse. Making someone feel special is the most important thing. I adore a great table scape but I hate the over decorated table jammed with kitschy things from the craft store. It’s time to
use your best silver, China, and crystal. My nephews made me so proud one Thanksgiving. They were in their early teens and I overheard them explaining to another guest, the story of the knife rest and how to use it. I was so proud. They’d been introduced to using my crystal knife rests when they were little. They remembered the whole story I’d told them about the knife rests.

Hi Lisa, you gave great, great tips. I don't have dinner parties often and mostly in the past they were large family affairs. I was going down memory lane thinking of times I succeeded and times I didn't do as well. I agree it is all about making your guests feel special and as hosts you really are "on' when it is happening and that is sometimes hard for me if I am feeling insecure. Being prepared ahead of time as you mention goes a long way to being calm and hence secure and relaxed in most situations.

I’ve learned the hard way don’t over do it , I’ve been exhausted by the time my guests arrive, one last thing I never ask my friends or family to help either, but I have an aunt who insists on washing dishes, I have a dishwasher, and she puts everything away in the wrong spot , any tips on that?! I told my husband they probably were not ready for us yet. There is nothing worse than going to a dinner party where you feel the host's stress. You almost feel like a bother, I hate it.

My only favorite get together dinner parties are the dessert 🍮 and coffee or wine and a chitchat amazing conversations. Or even hang out at the fire pit with wine 🍷 and make s’mores with a warm cozy blanket enjoying the fall and winter weather. It’s stunning time of the year. Look at Chanel aww 🥰

Lisa, your tips are spot on. When you mentioned not to be bickering during the party I couldn’t help but think of ‘The Office’ episode when Michael and Jan were fighting during their dinner party🤣😂

Sadly we need a video on how to be a good guest. My Mother taught me that a dinner guest should never go into the refrigerator and you are not to help without first asking. I personally do not like people taking over and “helping”. Please do not hover in the kitchen area while the host is getting things ready. I have a friend who thinks people don’t invite her because she has food allergies but the truth is that she is too invasive and acts like she is the host. I would love a video on how to be a good guest, too many people have forgotten how to even bring a hostess gift and the proper time to arrive. I enjoyed hearing your tips Lisa. 🌸

Thanks for including the corn soufflé Lisa , would you be able to do a link for the cool whip dream dessert too ? I’m originally from Scotland and some people over here aren’t so keen on the British desserts. I love listening and watching your channel. Maybe you could do a favorite dinner party meal video ?
