Yeah it’s kind of funny. Growing up and even now, the cannibalizing and brutal nature of the Cerato in JPOG was my first introduction to the animal. And it made me always a little confused with seeing it in any other media as JPOG gave me an impression that seemingly never existed. I guess that just shows the power of first impressions.

I almost never made actual parks. I just bred them and let them roam free. The ambience and behaviors were just so enjoyable! People made wonderful mods that increased the diversity, but the base game was just so solid.
I put an unholy amount of time into this game as a kid, even well into my teenage and adult life prior to the release of JWE I would still go back and play it. I was even pretty involved with the modding scene for a bit as a teenager. I think the key aspect that kept me coming back was the site B mode, which has been kind of sorely overlooked by the modern dino park builder games. Just being able to create an "ecosystem" of free roaming dinosaurs and have them do things other than just endlessly attack and fight with each other was all my nerdy brain ever wanted from a dinosaur game. you forgot to mention how the herbivores actually could kill carnivores, not to mention trike WAS agressive to carnivores even if they couldnt do anything to the trike, same with how the hadrosaurs could trample carnivores and how sauropods were properly hunted, take notes frontier

Jpog was awesome I also like how they treated the dinosaurs as actual animals as well I wish I had the PC version that way you can unlock all the sites at least that’s what I heard
You can't unlock all dig sites by default, you would have to mess with the configuration files for a bit, and sfter once you realized the power pf manipulating these things all hell breaks loose
I played this so much on the original Xbox that I wore out the disk. I still have it and look at it every now and then for that sweet sweet nostalgia. It’s been over a decade since I’ve spent any time with the game but I remember all of my islands and enclosures so well.
Oh, this brings back so many memories. Also, is it the nostalgia or are some of the dino models actually better than the modern ones? I especially miss quadrupedal Parasaurolophus.
While I agree that each JPOG dinosaur feels unique visually and audibly, I always felt as if Allo, Carchar, and Acro all had essentially the same behavior.
As much of a JPOG stan as I am, I have to agree with this.I wonder if this might have to do with the fact that they had to speed up development and had to leave tons of content and features off the main game(marine and flying reptiles, an entire disease management system,etc).
Allo was a bit unique, but carchar and acro were pretty simalier, allo however was unique to me in the fact that it was treated like a medium sized carnivore despite being a large one, ceratos and albertos would attack it if hungry enough, but they would run in fear from any larger carnivores.
@@HydragonofDeath hmm, I had forgotten about that but then again that might be down to me finding Allo very vanilla in comparison to the smaller big carnivores like Cerato and Alberto and barely using it in the game.
Acro is unique in the sense that it's the only large carnivore you can flat out start the game off with. I only ever had it happen once or twice but I can remember just randomly having it at the start and was shocked.
If JPOG were updated to JWE2's graphics and animation quality while bringing the good old qualities along with it I'd choose JPOG 100%. That being said JWE2 is improving itself with each update and I hope by the end of all the upsates it will prove itself to be a worthy successor to JPOG and I wish the same for PK as well so we can have our choice of do you wanna build a movie dino park or a realistic one.
My favorite park was a reverse park where the humans were contained, and the dinosaurs were mostly free to roam the map. The occasional sonic fence kept the larger predators from causing trouble, and land rovers would head out from the tiny cube that housed all the human facilities.
I love these older, simpler park managers. I find them so much less stressful and nicer to build in. Would you be so kind as to cover Zoo Tycoon 2? Thank you if you do :D
Jurassic World Evolution took *a lot* from Operation Genesis, but it still manages to feel kind of lifeless compared with the old game. Things have improved over time as they've added more features to JWE, the animal behaviours are much richer now for example. But it still feels less immersive and real than JPOG, and once you've built out your park and added all the species you want, there's not a lot of reason to keep playing. And I think we can narrow down what's still missing. An easy thing is the soundscape: I haven't played JPOG in years, but I can still hear the dense jungle sounds in my head. JWE's environmental noise is pretty quiet, so is less immersive. But more importantly.. JPOG's guests having individual AI models. You can *endlessly* tinker with your park to satisfy the different guests, and had to arrange the layout to ensure they'd get around everything and wouldn't get tired. In JWE, you have a generic 'transport rating', but otherwise you can just sprinkle things around randomly, there's no ramification for giving an individual guest a bad experience. And the timescale means a lot more, too. JPOG gives you monthly weather forecasts and measures everything in days, weeks, months; again it just feels more real and alive.
I like how every building in JPOG serves an actual purpose that directly influences the way guests or dinosaurs behave or serves one of their needs. You don't get redundant buildings like the power station which could be removed without affecting the gameplay that much. If the power system were removed you wouldn't even really notice. It's just a chore. In OG, you build a building because you want to keep your guests happy, feed your dinosaurs, and keep the park secure. In JWE, you build power stations to... make buildings work.
I really hope the creators of PK follow in the foot steps of jpog if they have “accurate depictions” of dinosaurs they should have also have the behavior traits of them
I watched the dinosaurs do their thing when I was younger. No annying Sabotage, no frequent storms, no tasks and stuff, that interupts you. Just you and your animals, sitting around, chill and having fun. I miss this in JWE....
The Evolution games may be better games, and I can say nowadays they can keep me on longer without getting bored, but JPOG will always have a certain charm that comes a lot from the era it came from. A holdover of the Jurassic Park era of the franchise before Jurassic World. 7:34 I would criticize this point about all the JPOG animals being super unique while JWE’s were boring. One, because it ignores the fact that the smaller dino count in JPOG was not desired, they needed to cut it down. Two, Evolution 2 especially still has unique behaviors. Socializing behaviors between multiple animals, Pachy’s still duel, Raptors pack hunt. Herbivores feed on plants instead of feeders in that game, they react to other animals and make noises and look at them. And three, seeing one game as having reskins while the other doesn’t is wear rose tinted glasses. The Toro and Trike from JPOG shared most of their animations, the duckbills, including the Ouranosaurus behaved the same and had the same rig, and this was double true for the large carnivores. Who also mostly had similar rigs and animations. While lacking the individual management or other traits to make them unique like in Evolution 2 so they feel very samey to house. The point is, JPOG isn’t necessarily some masterwork of a game objectively. There’s a reason it was met with mixed feelings when it came out back then, it has its benefits and its charms. And compared to the first Evolution, there are some great points here. But when talking about Evolution 2, I think Frontier succeeded with making a great game that can say it’s a true successor. Because if there’s one thing JPOG did, it’s that without it, I doubt dinosaur park builders would have emerged in the time they did. Or at least not in the way it was in our reality. Who knows if Evolution would have come out to begin with?

I put so much hours into this game it was ridiculous, one of the best park builders ever made. Used to love the custom missions too where you shoot dinos, etc. It was educational as well, the database, the fossil formations, not to mention the selection of either cows or goats from live feedeers so you could see your smaller dinos pack hunt or larger dinos kill bigger game. Oh and being able to see your guests thoughts, likes, and bios.
I love so much this game... The dinosaurs aren't thirsty for blood. They feel like animals! With their own ecosystem, their natural behavior... even they poop! It was great too watch herbivores fight to decide who's the lider and I even can remember they would have a crown for it! (in the hud) Man, I feel like there's nothing like jpog. Maybe I'm being a little bit nostalgic here hahaha but I would love to play it again!
Hello there my fellow JPOG enthusiasts! Glad to see there are still people here that prefer this gem to difficult new stuff.it's not just that the dinosaurs acted real but they were goddamn more accurate than jwe. Like take a look at parasaurolophus in jpog and compare it with jwe. Not gonna promote myself or anything but im just suggesting a gift. I made a cenozoic mod back in 2020 i guess which was just a reskin mod. I'm planning on releasing a more detailed new one with models and sounds and stuff so me and anybody else who totally adores this game could experience new things in old, nostalgic ways.I'm planning for a july/august release so, stay tuned i guess!
One complaint that I must add regarding this video is the part at 6:50, idk how you can say there wasn't any need for there to be more Dinosaurs when JPOG really missed out on some key Dinosaurs in the series that should've been featured in the game. Mainly Carnotaurus, Compsognathus, Metriacanthosaurus, Mamenchisaurus, Segisaurus/Coelophysis, Troodon, Ornitholestes, Plateosaurus, Diplodocus, Iguanodon, Ornithomimus, Baryonyx, and Hypsilophodon/Thescelosaurus. As these Dinosaurs would play a iconic part in the series in some way and some were already intended for the original park in the series, with the last few dinosaurs I mentioned also supposed to be in the game but was cut unfortunately. If there was anything I had truly hated as a kid playing JPOG(besides the small island sizes), it was the fact there wasn't enough Dinosaurs especially when you consider what we could've had. I can't tell you how much of an impact the fandom would experience if we actually got the Novel Carnotaurus in JPOG to some extent, that alone would've been pretty iconic in itself to show off in the game and probably would've increased it's already high admiration for the game among the fandom and beyond, plus it would've added another unique special trait Dinosaur like the Dilos with their spit mechanic. Of course it would be major fanservice but we did already get plenty of that in the game anyway, shame they didn't capitalize on that more though. :/
Big things I noticed between this and Jurassic world. 1 the visitors were so much better it helps so much seeing what a visitor in one spot needs as opposed to trying to figure it out in a graph probably how and why these people are so bad at doing things. 2, the Dino behavior was also better.
I feel mixed on the Quality over quantity point. As a kid I was always bummed out that we had only 25 dinos. Worse was discovering that there were 40 planned initially. That's what the newer games are doing right, providing more options. For JPOG, it was great having the iconic dinos in the franchise and all of the expected archetypes covered however these new games offer more variety. Dinos like Pachyrhinosaurus and Giganotosaurus in JWE2 feel the same as other ceratopsians or large carnivores but I had the choice to use them in parks. I would have like that option in JPOG, to have different looking dinosaurs in the same archetype or niche. Sure, mods in JPOG could fix this problem but they were also just copies of other dinosaurs with slight differences and only on PC. That's not a criticism btw, I expect most animals to act the similar or the same compared to related speices or in their niche. In zoo tycoon 2 for example, I had the option to have a tiger, a leopard or a panther. These animals function and feel somewhat the same but it didn't bother me because I have them all and get to choose which one I want or even them all for a zoo. Realistically I want both, complex individual dinos and a huge roster. I can't chose between both really even if it sounds like im learning towards quantity more. I prefer the middle ground.
Speaking of the dinosaur quantity issue, I noticed that if JPOG were to have an updated roster consisting of all animals from the JP/JW movies and Camp Cretaceous (not counting hybrids, flying creatures, and marine reptiles), that alone would almost be enough to make a full game out of. Its crazy how sometimes i just want to play jpog instaed of jw2 even with the all DLCs, because the dinosaurs feel much more alive and unique, the soundtrack, the mods and the way u could create your own island.

I remember the days that I had tons of fun with my dad watching the animals kill the guests, and also getting scared of that DAMN TORNADO. The theme of the tornado is still stuck with me to this day. I loved every moment I had with the game and still play it to this day. You summed up the points of why JPOG was such a good game PERFECTLY! On that note, I'd also like to mention the modability of the game, as it is INSANE! I remember installing many mods to expand my dino count, see new skins, and just plain old fun. I also remember the cheat codes, which were fun and not just a way to get around the missions. You could have zombie dinosaurs... ZOMBIE DINOSAURS! Anyways, I just loved and continue to love this game!

It was a good game, but in retrospective it has a lot of issues. Annoying bugs, odd limits to things like water fountains and dinosaurs. As for JWE2, I’m still sad we didn’t get lethal options to deal with the Dino’s. It just makes sense to have guns in the same place in a dinosaur theme park.

Finally someone who understands the beauty of this game and how Evolution still stands behind it in its shadow! I love Evolution, don’t get me wrong, but JPOG had heart and FELT like a Jurassic Park game. The Return to Jurassic Park DLC has been the best thing to be released since JPOG. JPOG was true to its IP and I want to play a game that’s devoted to Jurassic Park, not have it turn into some paleontological accurate simulator like what they’ve done with the new Feathered Dino DLC they just released. I wish Frontier would improve upon the soul this game had which still pulls my heart strings to this day. But I doubt it… gaming is all about coughing up cheap content to make the most profit these days. 😒 They need to understand, a Jurassic game ISN’T a Jurassic game without its vibrant and rich atmosphere.
I saw this Mod someone made that put all the things that Jurassic World Evolution has into Operation Genesis like more dinosaurs you can put in your park and better quality graphics. Kinda neat

Yeah, you can remove the restrictions of digsites, animals and so on.
You can't unlock all dig sites by default, you would have to mess with the configuration files for a bit, and sfter once you realized the power pf manipulating these things all hell breaks loose
You can unlock all digsites by going to the game files and upping the limit

You can *endlessly* tinker with your park to satisfy the different guests, and had to arrange the layout to ensure they'd get around everything and wouldn't get tired. In JWE, you have a generic 'transport rating', but otherwise you can just sprinkle things around randomly, there's no ramification for giving an individual guest a bad experience.
And the timescale means a lot more, too. JPOG gives you monthly weather forecasts and measures everything in days, weeks, months; again it just feels more real and alive.
I like how every building in JPOG serves an actual purpose that directly influences the way guests or dinosaurs behave or serves one of their needs. You don't get redundant buildings like the power station which could be removed without affecting the gameplay that much. If the power system were removed you wouldn't even really notice. It's just a chore. In OG, you build a building because you want to keep your guests happy, feed your dinosaurs, and keep the park secure. In JWE, you build power stations to... make buildings work.
I really hope the creators of PK follow in the foot steps of jpog if they have “accurate depictions” of dinosaurs they should have also have the behavior traits of them
They seem to be on the right track. The animals are simply stunning! I was hyped as hell for Paraceratherium.
I watched the dinosaurs do their thing when I was younger. No annying Sabotage, no frequent storms, no tasks and stuff, that interupts you. Just you and your animals, sitting around, chill and having fun. I miss this in JWE....
JPOG is a true classic. I remember all the mods for the game. Ahhh… good times.
The Evolution games may be better games, and I can say nowadays they can keep me on longer without getting bored, but JPOG will always have a certain charm that comes a lot from the era it came from. A holdover of the Jurassic Park era of the franchise before Jurassic World.
7:34 I would criticize this point about all the JPOG animals being super unique while JWE’s were boring. One, because it ignores the fact that the smaller dino count in JPOG was not desired, they needed to cut it down. Two, Evolution 2 especially still has unique behaviors. Socializing behaviors between multiple animals, Pachy’s still duel, Raptors pack hunt. Herbivores feed on plants instead of feeders in that game, they react to other animals and make noises and look at them. And three, seeing one game as having reskins while the other doesn’t is wear rose tinted glasses. The Toro and Trike from JPOG shared most of their animations, the duckbills, including the Ouranosaurus behaved the same and had the same rig, and this was double true for the large carnivores. Who also mostly had similar rigs and animations. While lacking the individual management or other traits to make them unique like in Evolution 2 so they feel very samey to house.
The point is, JPOG isn’t necessarily some masterwork of a game objectively. There’s a reason it was met with mixed feelings when it came out back then, it has its benefits and its charms. And compared to the first Evolution, there are some great points here. But when talking about Evolution 2, I think Frontier succeeded with making a great game that can say it’s a true successor. Because if there’s one thing JPOG did, it’s that without it, I doubt dinosaur park builders would have emerged in the time they did. Or at least not in the way it was in our reality. Who knows if Evolution would have come out to begin with?

I put so much hours into this game it was ridiculous, one of the best park builders ever made. Used to love the custom missions too where you shoot dinos, etc. It was educational as well, the database, the fossil formations, not to mention the selection of either cows or goats from live feedeers so you could see your smaller dinos pack hunt or larger dinos kill bigger game. Oh and being able to see your guests thoughts, likes, and bios.
Jurassic Park: Operation Genesis is old, but gold.
I love so much this game... The dinosaurs aren't thirsty for blood. They feel like animals! With their own ecosystem, their natural behavior... even they poop! It was great too watch herbivores fight to decide who's the lider and I even can remember they would have a crown for it! (in the hud)
Man, I feel like there's nothing like jpog. Maybe I'm being a little bit nostalgic here hahaha but I would love to play it again!
One small thing that I like to point out about JPOG compared to JWE is that the dinosaurs can’t walk through each other like they’re ghosts
Hello there my fellow JPOG enthusiasts! Glad to see there are still people here that prefer this gem to difficult new stuff.it's not just that the dinosaurs acted real but they were goddamn more accurate than
jwe. Like take a look at parasaurolophus in jpog and compare it with jwe. Not gonna promote myself or anything but im just suggesting a gift. I made a cenozoic mod back in 2020 i guess which was just a reskin mod. I'm planning on releasing a more detailed new one with models and sounds and stuff so me and anybody else who totally adores this game could experience new things in old, nostalgic ways.I'm planning for a july/august release so, stay tuned i guess!

One complaint that I must add regarding this video is the part at 6:50, idk how you can say there wasn't any need for there to be more Dinosaurs when JPOG really missed out on some key Dinosaurs in the series that should've been featured in the game.
Mainly Carnotaurus, Compsognathus, Metriacanthosaurus, Mamenchisaurus, Segisaurus/Coelophysis, Troodon, Ornitholestes, Plateosaurus, Diplodocus, Iguanodon, Ornithomimus, Baryonyx, and Hypsilophodon/Thescelosaurus. As these Dinosaurs would play a iconic part in the series in some way and some were already intended for the original park in the series, with the last few dinosaurs I mentioned also supposed to be in the game but was cut unfortunately. If there was anything I had truly hated as a kid playing JPOG(besides the small island sizes), it was the fact there wasn't enough Dinosaurs especially when you consider what we could've had. I can't tell you how much of an impact the fandom would experience if we actually got the Novel Carnotaurus in JPOG to some extent, that alone would've been pretty iconic in itself to show off in the game and probably would've increased it's already high admiration for the game among the fandom and beyond, plus it would've added another unique special trait Dinosaur like the Dilos with their spit mechanic.
Of course it would be major fanservice but we did already get plenty of that in the game anyway, shame they didn't capitalize on that more though. :/

Big things I noticed between this and Jurassic world. 1 the visitors were so much better it helps so much seeing what a visitor in one spot needs as opposed to trying to figure it out in a graph probably how and why these people are so bad at doing things. 2, the Dino behavior was also better.
I feel mixed on the Quality over quantity point.
As a kid I was always bummed out that we had only 25 dinos. Worse was discovering that there were 40 planned initially. That's what the newer games are doing right, providing more options. For JPOG, it was great having the iconic dinos in the franchise and all of the expected archetypes covered however these new games offer more variety. Dinos like Pachyrhinosaurus and Giganotosaurus in JWE2 feel the same as other ceratopsians or large carnivores but I had the choice to use them in parks. I would have like that option in JPOG, to have different looking dinosaurs in the same archetype or niche. Sure, mods in JPOG could fix this problem but they were also just copies of other dinosaurs with slight differences and only on PC. That's not a criticism btw, I expect most animals to act the similar or the same compared to related speices or in their niche. In zoo tycoon 2 for example, I had the option to have a tiger, a leopard or a panther. These animals function and feel somewhat the same but it didn't bother me because I have them all and get to choose which one I want or even them all for a zoo.
Realistically I want both, complex individual dinos and a huge roster. I can't chose between both really even if it sounds like im learning towards quantity more. I prefer the middle ground.
Speaking of the dinosaur quantity issue, I noticed that if JPOG were to have an updated roster consisting of all animals from the JP/JW movies and Camp Cretaceous (not counting hybrids, flying creatures, and marine reptiles), that alone would almost be enough to make a full game out of. With some adjustments to the star ratings and size groupings, to account for how the newer JW media portrayed/utilized certain animals, one could easily fashion a roster like this…

I remember the days that I had tons of fun with my dad watching the animals kill the guests, and also getting scared of that DAMN TORNADO. The theme of the tornado is still stuck with me to this day. I loved every moment I had with the game and still play it to this day. You summed up the points of why JPOG was such a good game PERFECTLY!
On that note, I'd also like to mention the modability of the game, as it is INSANE! I remember installing many mods to expand my dino count, see new skins, and just plain old fun. I also remember the cheat codes, which were fun and not just a way to get around the missions. You could have zombie dinosaurs... ZOMBIE DINOSAURS!
Anyways, I just loved and continue to love this game!

I would say that jwe2 has token a lot of what made jpog good and implemented it in it and it has made the dinosaurs more lively

It was a good game, but in retrospective it has a lot of issues. Annoying bugs, odd limits to things like water fountains and dinosaurs.
As for JWE2, I’m still sad we didn’t get lethal options to deal with the Dino’s. It just makes sense to have guns in the same place in a dinosaur theme park.

I love Evolution, don’t get me wrong, but JPOG had heart and FELT like a Jurassic Park game. The Return to Jurassic Park DLC has been the best thing to be released since JPOG. JPOG was true to its IP and I want to play a game that’s devoted to Jurassic Park, not have it turn into some paleontological accurate simulator like what they’ve done with the new Feathered Dino DLC they just released. I wish Frontier would improve upon the soul this game had which still pulls my heart strings to this day. But I doubt it… gaming is all about coughing up cheap content to make the most profit these days. 😒
They need to understand, a Jurassic game ISN’T a Jurassic game without its vibrant and rich atmosphere.
I saw this Mod someone made that put all the things that Jurassic World Evolution has into Operation Genesis like more dinosaurs you can put in your park and better quality graphics. Kinda neat
About the guest thing, while I do agree that a lot of games don't incorporate that, planet zoo indeed have the guest thoughts, needs and you see them get items from gift shops
