@Sum Ego .. I don’t think you’re gonna find a rich or wealthy drug dealer living here in WV. Unless you’re referring to some of the doctors, pharmaceutical sales reps, dirty law enforcement, and anyone that’s in or was in state level government when the opioid problems became obvious to the rest of the world. If 90% of the people you referred to as a drug dealer were being honest you’d see that most live from hand to mouth, aren’t proud of what they do, probably have some old felony drug charge that they’ve served their time for but still prevents them from obtaining any kind of decent paying job to take care of their responsibilities. I’m not saying that selling drugs is an admirable way to support yourself and/or your family. I’m only saying you won’t find any rich or well to do dealers here, unless you’re looking at the ones I mentioned.
I'm from California and there is no way wv is better. You can go from snow to beaches from cities to forest. Jobs everywhere we send 100's liks 20's hell I have two house in California.
@Jesus Bread It is but I'm one of the fortunate ones to be making a decent living plus my wife works for the unified school district and that takes care of our benefits.
@Jesus Bread There's housing out here there's just not a lot of affordable houses. At 1 time we have a lot of overseas investors over here buying up all the houses. Which Jack the price up for everyone else. I bought my 1st home 3 years ago when it cheaper am I 2nd one I bought this year. But I am Renting it for cheaper than the mortgage on it.
Who else here suffers from frontier WiFi😂? As much as I love West Virginia someone in East Lynn or Dunlow could sneeze on a power line and have the whole holler without power😂💀.

West Virginia's rolling hills, ancient, embrace one with wisdoms and a humbling sense of peace. The people are Soulful and kind and know how to survive ungodly circumstances. This unique place had been mocked and bad-mouthed for too long. No place is perfect.🕊
I'm Korean living in Seoul and I have no idea where the West Virginia is, however about 20 years ago.. my middle school teacher taught me the very first popsong in my life which named Take me home country road. I still remember all the lyrics of it and always been wanting to visit WV :)
@Old Iron Thank you so much for detail information. I want to drive along the roads around there watching beautiful nature. Surely I would love to listen that song loud in the car.. haha! Just imagination made me happy now! again thx bro and hope your marriage life will be full of joy and happiness.
I was in a small dive bar in the Golden Gai in Tokyo a few years ago with friends from WV. Guy who can speak some English asks where we're from. He then requests Country Roads to the bar tender for the karaoke and everyone knows the lyrics and starts singing, most could barely speak english. Pretty crazy how well that song is known internationally.
Almost Heaven... Folks I've met in West Virginia are some of the kindest, proudest and hard working people you could hope to find anywhere. A beautiful state to travel in. Sad that economics aren't better for so many West Virginians right now.
Proud to say that my daddy was W.V. Born and raised. He could build, repair anything. He was the most intelligent man I ever knew. He also worked 2 jobs all of his life to make sure that his 3 children did not want for anything. I feel that is why at 58 my work ethic is as strong as my pops. 💪💪💪💪

They’re not “hollows,” they’re hollers.
I am thinking about moving to West Virginia. How is the humidity there and is it easy to find a construction job? Land seems to be fairly affordable but what would i be looking at per acre price for a fairly large off grid mountain property?
@@Cody_Ramer it's a huge state with lots of decent sized towns, idk where you looking to move but.. and if you know anyone in the businesses there's tons of construction jobs ik of close to 5 atleast and that's just me personally in my tri-county area. Myself! Raised in DC where the people will take the shirt off your back and charge you too. West Virginia has it's drawbacks, but you can live here in peace, people help each other, and life is slow enough to be worth living, especially in the country!
I live in WV and i moved here from Baltimore city at 13. I am so glad my family moved to WV. If you love nature and the outdoors, want to retire, or want land and a white picket fence, then this is the state for you. There is sightseeing for miles literally. White water rafting, canoeing, fishing, hiking, camping, rock climbing, hunting etc. Anything outdoors you can imagine. There are jobs here despite what anyone thinks. Construction, coalmining, and pipeling are abundant in this state. Many technical centers to further your education. It's a great place to raise a family, and have alot of fun!!
We the people of West Virginia are wise enough to want to be #1 on this list. Please don't come here, you will hate it. Please tell all of your friends to avoid our state. May our heavenly Father protect us from you.
Well, just for that I don't want you coming to California as we have earthquakes, fires and wind storms and we want to keep it all for ourselves. W. Virginia is a nice place with nice people and my parents grew up there and were both great parents and I love visiting my cousins and family there but I would not live there as it is too rural for what I need and do for entertainment.
I live in West Virginia and I’m happy with where I grew up. There isn’t much in terms of job opportunities farther south but it’s a beautiful place and once the people get to know you they’ll treat you like famous
West Virginia is one of the most beautiful states. Yes we have problems, but people here are so good hearted and help one another. Yes we have our problems, but at the end of the day, we are Mountaineers and have had to overcome so much throughout are state history. West Virginians had to fight for everything. There were wars fought between the Coal Companies and Coal Miners. We have a bloody history. People say "Blood runs through these hills' but we are a proud people.
West Virginians will help their neighbors. But they won’t help other West Virginians or Americans living in other states. That’s why a lot of Americans don’t like West Virginians: no compassion, no desire to learn, no care for anyone but themselves. About the only thing they are rich in is their pride.
Wow are you wrong Wv sends out crews all over the usa when disaster strikes and a high number in the armed forces like the guard that helps all over . Have you even been in WV? if so must have been the wrong parts of it ,

I've never been to West Virginia, but it's landscapes look absolutely stunning. I can't imagine being bored in that vast, open, beckoning country side.
I live in WV and find this video funny, because it's all true, but like you said it is no where near as bad as what people say. In my opinion the worst thing WV is dealing with is the drug addiction struggle, we are like the overdose capital of the world, but more people need to realize that it is possible to get past it. Much love from WV!
😂😂😂, i was watching the video and thought the same thing!!!! everything he saids its true. hell, i can possibly find other reasons not to move here that are worse than the one he mentioned, like 🤔🤔🤔 oh the rumors that we walk barefoot, dont have teeth and eat people!! 😂😂😂😂. love living in the eastern panhandle.
mewdrarkham I’m curious as to what you would propose job opportunities in WV? I agree if there was an industry here to bring people here, our state could be brought out of its poverty state. I live between Charleston and Huntington and on either side all one hears of are drugs and crime. It’s like being in the Wild West. Fear of being shot with a stray bullet even while driving on the interstate. 😢
West Virginia has some of the nicest people in the US by far. You can argue all day about it being rural, having the highest poverty, obesity, drug overdose rate etc but there are very few places in the US anymore where the people are just so down to earth and welcoming. My family immigrated here from the Middle East 40 years ago and I have traveled and lived in several major US cities but never felt welcomed like I have in West Virginia. Despite the current political climate, our neighbors continue to treat us like family. I think a lot of what is hated about West Virginia is misguided by stereotypes rather than the beauty it has to offer...
What part of WV is everyone from or planing to move to? I’m from Marshall County. Moundsville to be exact. I live 2 blocks behind the old WV State Penn. it’s fun this time year!
I live in the hills of rural Georgia and it's similar. My house is a few miles outside of town, even. There is little crime in town and practically none out here where I live. The people out here are the friendliest you'll ever meet. For example, I was fishing in a pond that I did not know was private property. A man came out to tell me to leave and was rightfully irritated. What started out as him coming out to run me off ended with us exchanging fishing stories and tips on bass fishing.
Just spent a long weekend in Harpers Ferry, Charles Town, and exploring the back roads and small villages of the state. Absolutely stunning mountains and rivers everywhere the eye can see. I live in the Hudson River valley right on that noble waterway overlooking the Catskill Mountains. So when I say WV scenery is just breathtaking, that's no empty compliment. The people were delightful and interesting to strike up conversations with. Combine that with the natural beauty, its sense of history, and the belief in taking a calmer, more sane approach to life, and it's obvious that WV is a jewel of a state.
You evidently met some christians because they are the only ones that are more nice than anyone else there, that is when they're not being holier than thou or else they turn out to be charlatans. As for the rest of them, the only time they are nice is when they either have something to hide or else they want something from you. Being nice don't come free in those coal camps.
@@19buseye71 Hey sorry you had such bad experiences in WV, but everyone is not bad here, don't anyone have any common sense, there's good and bad anywhere, and everywhere you go, but on average people are friendly, and nice here, and down to earth. There's always gonna be people who are ridiculous, or wrong. And if you smile at most people they will smile back, and if you are nice most people will return thew same, but there's always those few who make everyone else look bad.But don't judge everyone or everywhere based on a few. There is places in Charleston i won't go to, because just like any other city you may get mugged, beat up, or raped, or something, but the whole state is not that way.
So I was born and raised in NE Ohio, and WV was the butt of all of our jokes (as if we were any better). I moved abroad 21 years ago and always tell people that WV is the most gorgeous state of the US, it has the absolute best scenery.
@Ben Daulton Ohio is also got many of the best Marijuana dispensaries within less than an hour drive to Michigan. If you want to get high in WV you're looking at pharmaceuticals or illegal bunk weed.
West Virginia is one of my FAVORITE places to visit! I had the privilege of goin' through Monongalia, Preston and Tucker counties, absolutely gorgeous! I hope that tourism/recreation becomes a more rewarding industry there for the residents.
My family moved from nj to wv. Couldn’t even afford a house. My dad lived at a vacationing trailer park working 2 Jobs. I lived with my aunt. Moved to wv and he owns his own house and bought his first brand new vehicle. Something he couldn’t of imagined in nj
I moved from nj and also moved to wv.the panhandle people are nice and 100k$ back home in Jersey will get you 1 bed room and 1 bathroom appartment and in wv you can 3 bed rooms and maybe 2 bathroom house. There's also a lot more people from Jersey and New York so fitting in was actually easy.
I have been visiting Berkeley Springs for decades and have never experienced anything other than respect and kindness from the West Virginians. I'm from Maryland, work in Virginia and was raised in D.C.. I feel and have felt safer in West Virginia than any of these places. The only place that I have enjoyed being in as much as WV isn't in this country, and I've been from California to Vermont, it's Sicily and the people there were unbelievably friendly. I was stationed in Sicily and other countries while in the Navy. I love WV. I wish it was my home. Being a Black man, the genuine friendliness I've experienced in WV is rare. And the state trust black folks enough to allow us to carry concealed.
Ric Johns- I had a black friend when I worked at JBAndrews near DC. who bought a home in WV and lived there on wknds and even commuted down to DC. He loved it, said he wished he would have done it long ago. Speaking of Navy, I did Det's in Sicily and loved it, but my all time favorite is Rota.

Ric Johns Your car can break down in the middle of nowhere in WV and someone will stop to help you. This is the only state that I’ve ever felt could be called home and I’ve worked in many states both northern and southern. West Virginia is an absolute jewel. I’ve never met such proud yet humble people. They never want a thing in return yet will sacrifice so much just to help, no matter what the problem is. I love the isolated towns with not much going on. West Virginians are hard working, honorable , devout in their beliefs, and generous. Cold hearted, selfish, conceited ,opinionated yuppies are unsophisticated. What is sophisticated is WestVirginian loyalty, strength of character, work ethic, generosity, and non judgmental attitude. I will never leave this wonderful state.
I have lived in WV for 10+ years and recently graduated from college here at WVU. I grew up in Wheeling, lived in Morgantown for 5 years while in college, and recently moved to the greater Charleston area with my boyfriend. The differences between these three areas couldn’t be bigger. Honestly Wheeling is more like a city, and feels like an extension of Pittsburgh more than it feels like a part of WV. Morgantown is just insane, in like the best way... but Charleston. Oh Charleston. Living here has given me my first taste of what people not from WV think it is. First of all the hollers are probably my favorite part of this area😂 everything else is really just lots of meth, heroin, and failing businesses. There’s a huge wealth gap in this state and it becomes more apparent here in Charleston than anywhere else that I’ve lived in WV. The truth is not all people from West Virginia are poor, in fact where I grew up in Wheeling was a very wealthy community with three fantastic school systems, two of which were privately run. The father south you go in the state however, the bigger the wealth gap seems to grow. There are many people here in Boone county that have next to nothing but the few that do have money seem to own and control just about everything!
I am a transplant from WV to Houston, Texas. I would take WV hands down over Texas. WV is a beautiful state, has 4 separate seasons and the people are some of the best there are. The ONLY thing keeping me away from home is the economy.
The economy here is on the rise! We now have the biggest natural gas outfits in the country. Coalmines are running again. WVU hospital is expanding and hiring like crazy. Everthing has picked up. My husband lost his mining job 7 years go and we cashed out our 401k bought a liveable semi and started a trucking company. Since we did that, gas, oil, & coal are booming. We're back home now and things are better then they were 7 years ago. We're actually purchasing a summer home. We couldn't do that 10 yrs ago when things were good. Both of our sons (20 &23) are earning 100k annually. WV is on a rise. We worked out of Fort worth Tx 5 yrs ago, we had a drop yard there. Loved going into Dallas. 20 yrs ago my husband lived in Victoria TX and worked offshore drilling. We've thought about moving there fulltime several times but so glad we didn't. We love the mountains, green grass and rivers. Maybe you can look deeper into the changes WV has had. It's flourishing, mid and north anyways. Marion and mon counties have a shortage in real estate as well as property rentals. A 2br rental now goes for $1200. 10 yrs ago 2bdr went for $600 Times have changed for this absolutely beautiful state once again :)
@@andimarie1718 the economy will go back down after Trump is out of office (4 more years please). Our economy heavily fluctuates due to policies by ignorant politicians that hurt our main source of income which is coal mining
Howdy, neighbor. Also a WV native transplanted to the greater Houston area. Kinda blown away by the amount of Mountaineers I run into here. What part of Houston are you in?
I really like WV. It's a beautiful state. I'd encourage everyone to set aside their stereotypes and learn to appreciate the land and the people, and approach certain areas/topics with sympathy rather than judgment. In terms of the video, most of these seem like weirdly specific reasons rather than general observations. And as rural as it is there, when I was living in DC I knew multiple people who commuted from WV to the city, or had a second home there. It's not super close, but it's also not inaccessible to a major city.
I love the avoiding the “hollows” the lack of hollers in other states is what led me to return home. There’s nothing better than a small town nestled in the trees and hills.
I currently live in Jersey and I'm thinking of moving there within the next 3 years just for that reason, maybe the Bartow area or one of the counties along the eastern foothills of the state.
Jared Milam That’s right. West Virginia has a lot to boast about. I was born and raised in WV, live in another state now, believe me, this state has many, many skeletons in the closets, much worse than any in WV.

I spent 1 weekend in west virginia.. Up on genoa hill & im almost positive we rode past a holler or two while on a side by side. Seeing the houses buried deep down mountain paths with nothing but miles of forest in all directions was mindblowing. The burial of family on personal property & the huge amount of family cemetaries.
If West Virginia is the poorest state and California and New York are the richest, I think the poorer the better.

I feel like if we fix that and maybe make the state a little more progressive we will have better employment opportunities in the state

mewdrarkham I’m curious as to what you would propose job opportunities in WV? I agree if there was an industry here to bring people here, our state could be brought out of its poverty state. I live between Charleston and Huntington and on either side all one hears of are drugs and crime. It’s like being in the Wild West. Fear of being shot with a stray bullet even while driving on the interstate. 😢
I have heard that its getting better slowly. I have been researching and watching drive videos. I dont see any homeless or homeless camps

Been to WV once. Gotta say I loved the scenery, it's such a nice change of atmosphere from the other states.
Thanks for sharing, I know there's some fancy resorts in WV as well, guess that there should be some wealthy individuals?

A 2br rental now goes for $1200. 10 yrs ago 2bdr went for $600
Times have changed for this absolutely beautiful state once again :)
I served 10 years in the military living all over the U.S. (including Hawaii) and I came back home to West “By God” Virginia.
Nice WV ON TOP (☞ ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)☞
I really like WV. It's a beautiful state. I'd encourage everyone to set aside their stereotypes and learn to appreciate the land and the people, and approach certain areas/topics with sympathy rather than judgment. In terms of the video, most of these seem like weirdly specific reasons rather than general observations. And as rural as it is there, when I was living in DC I knew multiple people who commuted from WV to the city, or had a second home there. It's not super close, but it's also not inaccessible to a major city.
Controlled growth is a good thing
I my husband love wv are purchasing lan and plan to build. It’s beautiful
@ricks mouth drip that's inaccurate
@ricks mouth drip Sounds just perfect for me then
@ricks mouth drip I mean, needing a place that's mostly white isn't exactly an ordinary need, so that'll be helpful😉
I'm from the South Pacific islands.. "Country road" song brought me here. . Made me feel like missing this place I've never even been to 😁😁👍
Number 1 reason to move to west Virginia.
*_West Virginia mountain mama take me home country roads_*
That song is mostly about Virginia so I should move to Virginia
Sing the song right
I love the avoiding the “hollows” the lack of hollers in other states is what led me to return home. There’s nothing better than a small town nestled in the trees and hills.
Elven Sky Archer yeah man i live in a holler here n its the best. I dont like the city
I currently live in Jersey and I'm thinking of moving there within the next 3 years just for that reason, maybe the Bartow area or one of the counties along the eastern foothills of the state.
@@geneclemetson4779 are you happy on your life !!

I’m WV born and raised. I’m proud so of my state! And also the roads a fine if you’ve always lived with it.
No there kinda not I live in alum creek and they absolutely suck
I'm from Welch and i can confirm, the roads are horrible
Bluefield and I drive truck.....the roads are .....fine if your a Baja racer
The roads do suck, you can literally swim in some of the potholes, but I've never popped a tire.. you just learn how to navigate them. I love WV!!
Have you ever seen preston county there isnt a single road without a pothole on it stg
I’ve visited WV 2 or 3 times. All the roads that I drove on were in good condition, and I took mainly backroads. A beautiful state.
Hey man trust me you don't wanna live to this shitty republican state it is poor..
WV born and raised and I can tell you first hand that over half coal miners know more than just coal mining 🤨😒
I have lived here all my life and people here are good people. Will give you the shirt off our backs if you need it.
Bradley Elkins ♥️♥️♥️
And then say you stole it when they sober up. Lol.
@Mike WV can't disagree
@Mike WV fucking how. I'm homesick. Best state to be drunk in. I lived on a street not even the cops can find. Lol
I'm still drunk and out of cigs. Can I bum one?
Top 10 reasons TO move to west virginia
Number 1. Beautiful views
I moved here from nc and I love it
Yeah. If anything im offended by this video. I've lived here all my life.

Yes the scenery in West Virginia is fantastic. It's very beautiful
I'm 15 and I live in wv and I love it. We are poor but happy. We also have amazing whitewater and the longest arch bridge in the western hemisphere.
Jared Milam That’s right. West Virginia has a lot to boast about. I was born and raised in WV, live in another state now, believe me, this state has many, many skeletons in the closets, much worse than any in WV.
An you will not have to change your maiden hame when you get married.
Jared Milam i live in wv to
West Virginia was the last state to get the coronavirus
@@flyingdog1498 it's 2020. Harassing a teenager is as tactless as forcing someone to change their name when married.
Eat some more grits you might grow a lil.
Country roads, take me home, to the place I belong. I love WV, it’s so beautiful, i don’t live there but you forgot to mention one thing, the opiate problem. People don’t know but they pumped that state full of OxyContin and Xanax, then closed all the mines, I really feel for the people there. Similar to up here just with mills not mines. It tears me up all the people i know throwing their lives away on that shit, it’s a hard habit to break, ask me how I know. Have a great day
I know I have friends from there & dated a guy from there it's bad, but it's bad everywhere now.
Real bad considering the local cops let there snitches bring it in so they could make their arrests...
They haven’t closed all the mines, our President made sure of that. I come from a huge family of miners.
@@heatherlicious8224 I'm glad to hear that, I only have the information I get from people I talk to and the internet. When I heard about that it was a few years ago, during Obama's time as president, i know he put a hurt on the industry. Plus the situation is similar to the situation in western PA with the steel industry. There are still mills open, but there are far less than about 50 years ago, when most people could count in getting a decent middle class job.
Jon A. President Trump is trying to fix what Obama destroyed. My dad almost lost his insurance bc Hillary was gonna take it away but thank God Trump took office and saved my parents, uncles and so on.
I worked at Dulles airport in 95 all I could I visited West Virginia and fell in Love with it, great people great place absolutely beautiful there.. Miss you West Virginia . Blessings from California
Went there once this fall....then again 2 times within the next few months!
Love WV. Only 4.5 hours from home in Ohio, and a great place for those who love the outdoors. Backpacking, caving, climbing, kayaking....
Yes it is if you look up a lot of popular places in West Virginia there is a lot of hiking and camping
When shit hits the fan an all the people are dying off in the cities better believe we'll be making it.
Yeah cause the quality of life is so great in WV. Trust me you won't want to live if shtf no matter where you live.

anthony arthur. yes making it alright, sweet love too your sheep
val jean northern WV is perfectly fine...
Talking trash don't really effect me like most. Sleeping with sheep an all. But realistically it's a great place. Just the worst of us get showed on TV an people judge by that.

Toni Millard technically it is hollow. Just like it’s also creek. But I’m from southern Ohio and I’ve always pronounced them “holler” and “crick”.
I in southwest Virginia on the border of TN wv Ky and NC and we use hollar unless ur like most kids losing the accent.
Exactly what I was going to say. Its holler not hollow! Born and raise in WV and damn proud of it. There is a reason it's called "Almost heaven West Virginia".

My family in West va were the only family that treated me like they were glad I was born. I love being there with my family.
As someone born and raised in West Virigina.... I could not stop laughing!!! It's so true about the hollows and rural areas. Most people just want to be left alone but will still give you a smile no matter how irritating you are. Lmao!!!
Shelby Hilbert:::: Little bit like Cajun folks.
Lol I agree. But the scenery's are beautiful
Shelby Hilbert I believe hollows are called “Hollers” here in WV
@@appalachianrailproductions7246 yep I live in a holler right here in West by God 😋
The people , even those we seen deep in the "boonies" waved and said hi. super friendly. Their roads are golden compared to Pittsburgh lol. Aside from the poverty , its taking everything in me to not ditch this city and disappear back into those west Virginian mountains. Absolutely loved it .
It’s not that bad to live in West by god Virginia
I live in wv. I've lived other places, hate flat land! I need hills and mountains to hide in,lol!
Yessss

People from WVA are incredible ! I'm out here in Washington and I wish I still lived there.
That's why Upstate SC is flooded with West By God Virginians.. opportunity, mountains and hills!
Lived in WV (Bridgeport) and went to Fairmont State Univ.. WV is awesome 3 months out of the year and depressing as hell for the other 9!

Almost heaven actually

Yes it is! But the love for Adolf Trump (fascist) amongst a lot of that population is repulsive to me.

I lived both in Morgantown & outside of Motown in the county..great place, beautiful, & sweet people!
We thought we were good where we are but so many businesses are moving in until we are thinking about moving. One company is coming one mile from our home . They are going to have 3,000 workers , that doesn't count all the smaller buisness.

Hope you mean the song and not the actual roads
As someone who moved to WV from NYC... the roads here are a BLESSING. Yes they’re windy as hell but I’ll take that over the pot hole ridden streets of Brooklyn any day.

He didn’t say anything about how we have the most heroin overdoses in the world. We are the drug capital of the world
not west virginia as a whole, but huntington. although drugs do hit all over the state it’s not a big problem to the average person that doesn’t live in a compact town
And although we did get hit hard with the overdose deaths, it was actually Dayton OH that won the title of heroin capital of the U.S.
Yep,I'm from Clarksburg WV
We moved to Ohio for work when I was 11.
Thank God!
I love those mountains ,streams and lakes, but the poverty is not for me.

And you do not have o leave your parents house to find a spouse.
I am from WV.. when I go out of state sometimes people think my attitude is well.... Mayberryish...
Lol I'll take that criticism anyday
You won't believe me ma'am (and thats completely okay I totally don't blame you if you don't) but Don Knotts (The man who played Barney Fife on the Andy Griffith show) happens to be my 5th cousin lol. I love how he took the worst pics of everything in WV... schools etc... way to make it look way worse than it is 🙄
Did you see the title? Why would I focus on the good things?
The pictures are real!
