Folks, if you try this, make sure that a 4 inch (10 cm) sphere cannot pass through ANY opening in the gate or ANY space between the gate and floor or walls. Otherwise it is an entrapment and strangulation hazard. This is also a building code requirement.
They really did turn out great! I wasn’t joking either. My wife has been painting nonstop since we moved it, but everything looks so much better! Have a great weekend Anita!
Hey there! I'd been trying to figure out a solution for the stairs that wouldn't involve a swinging gate-- and this was a genius solution! Mine's not as fancy as yours, but a stole the basic idea, with a cutout so the cats can still get to the litter boxes downstairs. Thanks for the great inspiration and how-to instructions! Have a great day, Shelly
So glad it worked out for you Shelly! We've since moved the Maker Break series to it's own channel. Hope to see you there! HTTPS://ruclips.net/user/makerbreak
I am using a used crib I picked up to make a barrier gate to keep my dogs out of my kitchen. One is an ardent counter top raider with an eating disorder. The other one wants to chew everything the first one finds into tiny pieces and a big mess. My issue was this big 32 inch gate swinging in and out between two rooms. Your design fixes that problem for me. I have already bought 1x3 so I just hope I don't end up having to remake it if the smaller size fails to support this crib side repurpose idea. I'll post an update with a photo of the finished project. Thank you for the great video.
Hi I am wanting to build something like this but for my cats. Obviously cats are more agile than a toddler and can jump fairly high so I would have to make this at least double the height. Do you think with it being taller the brace framing section that the door has to slide through would be enough to hold a taller door in place since it would be heavier (more likely to topple over) than one closer to the ground, like you have made?
You could definitely support it taller with the same structure, but it would have to be REALLY tall to block a cat. A domestic cat can jump up to 6 ft high.

There’s no building code to a baby gate bro get real it’s not something that requires a permit so there’s no law involved
Aw, thank you so much. I really appreciate the feature and shoutout. Glad you liked how the railings turned out.😊🤗

Belts And Boxes I’ve used the elementmaker laser unit. A3, it’s relatively cheap and works not bad. It’s a laser engraver
