The symbolism in this video is so telling…I heard this from another reaction which I never thought of until watching it so many times…in the video, (cause the writing process she & he did when they were young teenagers may have different meaning to them), but in the video, she is always in white (symbolizing an angel), and he is dressed in black (symbolizing a death). Another form of symbolism is the fact she never touches the ground, she is always perched up high on a tree, fountain, or a rooftop which symbolizes she is a spirit/angel. It feels like she cannot move on to the afterlife because she’s still earthbound by their love…it’s all heartbreaking…this song kills me every time I hear it.
Yeah, the video is different than the original reason for the lyrics. Amy's sister died very young and Amy still misses her every day. Very tragic and meaningful in every case. Reading comments from other reactions it's apparent that the song is universal in mourning and support for those who have transitioned due to illness / suicide / etc.
If you notice.. throughout the entire video (even while walking), no part of her ever touches the ground. Initially being Amy's original concept for the video, she intended for it to symbolize a deceased loved one, who can no longer connect with the physical world.
The thing is....she s the one that is dead...he is the one that sofering for this loss...and the song is his think of her and everything with her voice...to painfull
Context from the video, the man is coming from a funeral, her lyrics are his emotions trying to cope with the loss. She is playing the "ghost" symbolized by her never touching the ground in any scene, she's always on top of something The song itself, iirc was dedicated to her sister who died at a young age. Her ability to put emotion into her vocals never ceases to amaze
Lots of kids in the background. I think its about her little sister. "All these years" refers to how long shes been holding onto her memory I think. Or she lost a tree😉
I love this song. Fall leaves on the ground, black and white, and her lying down most of the time all symbolize depression. In this case, due to the death of a loved one.
Her voice is haunting. This song is so relatable to many for many different reasons. Loss of a loved one by death or just the death of a relationship. When she sings, "But though you're still with me, I've been alone all the long" implies a relationship where one person is still holding on while the other is half way out the door.
For me, this song represents the desth of a relationship that hasn't ended yet. The lines she sings on the rooftop before the drop "Ive tried to tell myself that youre gone. Though youre still with me, I've been alone all along" speak to you knowing the other person has checked out but is still there and you are longing for that connection but they are mentally elsewhere.
This song was mostly written by ex-cofounder Ben Moody (guy on the piano), and Amy (singer) wrote the bridge. The song was mostly his and dedicate it to his grandfather. Some people speculate it’s about Amy’s sister, who she lost when she was around 6 years old, but it’s not. ‘Hello’ and ‘Like You’ are about Amy’s sister.
You d enjoy their most current album, The Bitter Truth. The first two songs, which go together, the first blends into the second, is one heck of a “comeback” after 10 years without releasing a full original length album.
My favorite from them is The Haunted. Her vocals are terrifyingly soft, and spooky and also has a background vocal. And the music is... odd. LOL and it's still my favorite ❤ Sorry i don't post a lot anymore but YT has been a jerk for MONTHS!!! My keyboard keeps freezing up and it won't let me type
The beautiful thing about music and poetry is once it's shared, interpretation changes, based upon the listener's needs. I lost my husband in August 2022 after 31 years of marriage and 37 years together. I have no idea how I would have made it through that first year without music. It's still rough, but as long as I have music, I'm good and I'm gonna be ok....someday.
Not sure if it's legit or not, but I heard it was about the lead singer (Amy Lee's) younger sister who passed. Though I don't think she was the only on that helped write it. So, not sure on any other contributions from other band members. This one hits a bit too close for me and is always hard to listen to or watch. Her voice is amazing as always. There is a good live version of this out there as well.

That's a good pick up!
Notice the wrist bandages?

What she saw if she did.

I love her, she speaks straight out of my soul.

When i listen to this song especially the chorus it gives off lullaby vibes. Almost like a mother singing about the loss of a child.

The song is simply just a spirit that haunts the memory of a grieving loved one. That's it. Moody the former guitar member wrote the lyrics.

The laying down scenes represent the heavy pressure of the emotional lose is someone close to her, my theory my.. liked reaction big dog 💯✌️🤘
My favorite vocalist ever!!
If this really is the first time your hear & analyse these songs, you are one intelligent man! You never miss a thing. 👏
He's definitely turned on and turned up.

actually the song was meant as a tribute to the guitarist grandfather who passed away.

She wrote the piano part, Ben’s original was more of a droning
Hi ordinaryviewer5493, thank you for "setting the record straight", I appreciate your correcting the misinformation...RogerC 11/24/23

In this aspect she is the ghost, notice she never touches the ground, he lost her.
yooooo my guy
She was in conflict with the lead singer of Seather before she met her now husband/psych.
@0:53 that's not ballet feet, her toes aren't fcked up
954 Million RUclips views of My Immortal. Does the word nice seem a little lacking?

Just the Once by Metric , music video version please 😊 reaction
Some of the symbolisim could have to do with the fact that her sister drowned and died when they were kids
💜💜💜
