I have typed up so many documents wanting to make a video like this for years, but it wasn't until theb's ban that I finally got the motivation to finish it. Here are all of my frustrations with Rare's support team and how they handle their community in one place. This video doesn't even scratch the surface of my overall frustrations with the game though. I'd love to see the video about your frustrations with the game. I quit the game for a lot of reasons, and it'd be nice to see someone else voice frustrations that I'm sure we share. I feel a little bit sad hating on this game when I hear Becalmed, and remember all of the fun, but I think our frustrations are warranted.
I agree wholeheartedly and I’ve been playing the game sense launch and I’m disappointed in rare and how DISGUSTING they have become and I have not played the game for about 5 months now. I wish SOT could go back to what it was in the old days of fun, no toxicity, no power hungry abusive company, and no cheaters just fun times with friends and watching my favorite streamers. I’m am absolutely incandescent in what rare has become. They need to clean house with the people they have and completely rework the support system to have actual people look into problems and use a healthy amount for brain cells to make choices instead of ignoring the problem and choosing the safest route with mass perm bans. Rare has definitely broken their own rules. If they went to court, they would try to ban the judge for "extreme toxicity" cause they called Rare guilty.

Yeah I've had Ashen Alliance mods dox one of my friends, I've had Requiem players DDoS one of my friends, and we've fought cheaters in alliance servers that never got banned from the game or the servers. Just as many gremlins in the PVE-only community as the PVP side lmao.

We have fought plenty of cheaters in alliance servers and a friend even got DDOSed during an alliance raid. There was one cheater theb fought multiple times in the same server and he didn't get banned from SOT or the alliance server. I wish I could link the video but it kinda got thanos snapped.

You will never get banned for killing a streamer. The ashbacon thing hasn't happened again, they learnt the lesson. These guys (noobface included) who complain about getting banned are people who promote spawncamping other players without sinking them just for the fun of making them rage. If you don't do that you will have no problem.

Yeah they went to far. Pretty similar story for me. Played almost every day for the past 2 years and when I heard about his channel getting removed I dropped the game and haven't touched it since. What they did is ridiculous.
I also find it absolutely rediculous that the yellowbeards stay forever. Ive been yellowbearded two times now, one of them is 3 years old and the other one half a year. The old one was for spawncamping and the other one for using exploits. Yet it has been 3 years since my first yellow it still counts towards that if im getting one more yellow im out forever. I think a reasonable thing would be to maybe give the ban system a rework in a way that a yellowbeard stays active for a year or two and after that it is „inactive“ and you can get 3 yellows before getting a redbeard again. The ban system as it is rn is just a joke to me as im constantly in fear that anything could get me banned since rare ist so random and unpredictable with their ban reasons.
After his ban, theb started cheating on an alt account in 2022 while streaming it on his twitch channel. He should stay banned for cheating, just like any other cheater in the game. He has to take full responsibility for his actions and now has to live with the consequence.
continuing the topic of Rare's lack of effort on bans or focusing bans on what's important, my middlepegleg account got banned very shortly after releasing my "sea of suffering" video in which I attempted to hide my use of extended fov. I wasn't trying to fool my viewers, I just knew that as soon as I uploaded that video that I would be throwing my account away. This was my main, middlepegleg that was banned and not the alt account that I had played on for 90% of all of the clips used. That alt of course was banned shortly after that from coming across the wrong streamer and it being labeled stream sniping. Not trying to make this about me, as I could honestly care less about losing my account, but you really can lose everything from really any way with Rare. There is no point in playing, either playing and making progress that you can expect to say goodbye to any day or playing to find pvp and hotmics only to get banned for toxicity or evasion that way

I am one of the few people who got unbanned from a permanent ban. I received a redbeard for allegedly spawn camping. What was the whole situation? After winning a fight on the hourglass, a sloop approached me. We sank it in a normal way twice in a row. However, due to the messed-up siren song mechanic, he respawned close enough to come back again and prevent us from diving. When he came back for the third time and said the phrase "I won't let you dive guys," that was the last straw, and I started spawn camping him. The spawn camping itself wasn't pointless. I killed him until my partner managed to sail away to a distance that allowed us to dive. The next day I received a redbeard. They told me I had previously received two yellowbeards, which wasn't true. They kept saying that the ban was applied correctly and nothing could be done about it, and then they blocked my ability to submit tickets. Only after two months, when I found a way to continue sending tickets, did they respond saying that after a reanalysis, my ban was false, and I was unbanned. For two months, I had no access to play the game at all. I even got a HWID ban, so buying a new game didn't fix it. No compensation, not even a apoologize. This game is really going in the wrong direction.
My friend got banned from naming ships because of a toxic ship name and they wouldn’t say which one it was, they just said the ban was deserved and final after review. The most offensive ship name he had was three bozos and I have seen far far worse.
Nah the statement bout how Rare ‘makes it up along the way’ regarding what qualifies as ban-worthy is such a fact, on most occasions they accept ‘exploits’ in the game as their own responsibility to fix and hence don’t punish people for using them, but they literally copy-striked a tutorial (that I made through following another tutorial, which has still yet to be taken down) and redbearded every account on my Xbox because it showcased a ‘renown farm glitch’ that I’m guessing was only copy strike and ban worthy because it threatened their play time. Tutorial consisted of going to an island and picking up and dropping a chicken crate repeatedly💀

As an Insider, I feel like we are no longer here to provide feedback as ask for changes before it goes live, I feel like the Insider programme just became a bug testing place. The feedback of many insiders have been ignored sometimes, and many negative changes made it into the game despite insiders asking for them to not happen. And there usually are no responses when some feedback is done regarding those changes, because the developer team already made their mind and won't change no matter what.

There's an ideology that runs deep at Rare that has impacted the decisions highlighted here, but also in-game "combat balancing" decisions, "safer seas", "tall tales", etc.. They've always responded to the ones who play "victim" without hesitation. This is a company that is willing to make their game worse with clunky band-aid combat patches just because AverageGamer69420 on his xbox in his living room lost his castaways to a guy with two guns and complained on twitter. I stopped playing SOT around 4 years ago. At the time, I was embarrassed I hadn't seen the writing on the wall and quit sooner. I used to love rare, banjo kazooie and dk 64 was my childhood, conkers bad furday is a staple in adult comedy in gaming. Played sea of thieves since day one, bought and read all the books and comics multiple times, and stayed through all of the questionable and dry updates. The decisions made over the past four years have been heartbreaking, and seeing the lack of attention to feedback on insiders regarding future content shows me they won't ever change. This isn't the game company I've loved since childhood anymore, its a private club of hypocritical adult-toddlers that bans or harasses anyone that happens to sway from their perceived morals and beliefs. It's truly depressing that i dont even have the motivation to bother logging in and continue the stories and world that I feel in love with.

I used to be in the Ash en alliance before They started charging money. The main reason why was because I wanted to catch up with a lot of my friends who had a lot of gold and were by all means pulling ahead. My experience with them was pretty nerve-wracking. I got temp band for accidentally selling a chest of ritual skulls when chest content selling was implemented . And then, when guilds came around, I was perm band for advertising my guild in their designated area. Yes, it was nice to have a place where I could passively get gold without a worry of danger, but then I realized that exploitation became a growing problem nowadays. I've grown a lot. Wiser, I'm not good at PVP by any means, but I'm still willing to fight. And I have the privilege to be able to tell the stories of how I got certain items instead of just saying " I farmed for this"
I was permanently banned back in 2021. It was right after me and my streaming buddies got done dunking on this other players ship. I was banned for Harassment and bullying. Yes, did we talk shit by chirping with the other players yes. But nothing threatening, racism, sexism etc. Eventually got it appealed about two months later. Super frustrating. You can't even talk in this game anymore without getting banned
The main problem being if your simply good at this game you'll most likely get banned. In arena i received many yellowbeards duo to me tdming with my friends leaving everyone else alone, Then other ships would come over to sink us so we sunk them well ''camping'' them (waiting until their boat sank). I couldnt of said anything ''toxic'' duo to me being on xbox at the time and voice didnt work the majority of the time. the ''good'' players of the game get called the toxic lot, but i have 100's of clips of getting called the hard r genuine threats towards family or whatever but they wont get banned, but i get banned for camping or simply just sinking them. Ive been redbearded over 30 times if not more due to various things. ToxieSinclaire is an example in many cases (for me) ive ran into her one to many times on accident. the first time i got her we put holes in her ship and boarded then started to kill until they sank but me and my friend later received a red beard on the same day about spawn camping her where the vod literally shows her bucketing her own ship to stay up. i mean toxie is a sot partner and calls people some pretty crazy things but she doesnt receive a ban or anything.
Problem with a lot of Arena TDM was they started taking the chest and trying to win the matches as well, forcing neutral players to engage. I used to be happy with them just fighting on the fort, but after a time they really started to cause problems in the hope of forcing everyone else to take part or leave.

I have typed up so many documents wanting to make a video like this for years, but it wasn't until theb's ban that I finally got the motivation to finish it. Here are all of my frustrations with Rare's support team and how they handle their community in one place. This video doesn't even scratch the surface of my overall frustrations with the game though. I agree wholeheartedly and I’ve been playing the game sense launch and I’m disappointed in rare and how DISGUSTING they have become and I have not played the game for about 5 months now. I wish SOT could go back to what it was in the old days of fun, no toxicity, no power hungry abusive company, and no cheaters just fun times with friends and watching my favorite streamers. I’m am absolutely incandescent in what rare has become. They need to clean house with the people they have and completely rework the support system to have actual people look into problems and use a healthy amount for brain cells to make choices instead of ignoring the problem and choosing the safest route with mass perm bans. Rare has definitely broken their own rules. If they went to court, they would try to ban the judge for "extreme toxicity" cause they called Rare guilty.

The reality is, rare is just not a good dev team. They made an absolute gem of a game, yet they squandered it by not patching the bugs, and the ban situation, etc
There's no other way to practice combat than boarding and letting someone stay afloat. Hourglass is great but it didn't fill the hole that arena left.

We have fought plenty of cheaters in alliance servers and a friend even got DDOSed during an alliance raid. There was one cheater theb fought multiple times in the same server and he didn't get banned from SOT or the alliance server. I wish I could link the video but it kinda got thanos snapped.

You will never get banned for killing a streamer. The ashbacon thing hasn't happened again, they learnt the lesson. These guys (noobface included) who complain about getting banned are people who promote spawncamping other players without sinking them just for the fun of making them rage. If you don't do that you will have no problem.

I also find it absolutely rediculous that the yellowbeards stay forever. Ive been yellowbearded two times now, one of them is 3 years old and the other one half a year. The old one was for spawncamping and the other one for using exploits. Yet it has been 3 years since my first yellow it still counts towards that if im getting one more yellow im out forever.
I think a reasonable thing would be to maybe give the ban system a rework in a way that a yellowbeard stays active for a year or two and after that it is „inactive“ and you can get 3 yellows before getting a redbeard again.
The ban system as it is rn is just a joke to me as im constantly in fear that anything could get me banned since rare ist so random and unpredictable with their ban reasons.

After his ban, theb started cheating on an alt account in 2022 while streaming it on his twitch channel. He should stay banned for cheating, just like any other cheater in the game. He has to take full responsibility for his actions and now has to live with the consequence.

continuing the topic of Rare's lack of effort on bans or focusing bans on what's important, my middlepegleg account got banned very shortly after releasing my "sea of suffering" video in which I attempted to hide my use of extended fov. I wasn't trying to fool my viewers, I just knew that as soon as I uploaded that video that I would be throwing my account away. This was my main, middlepegleg that was banned and not the alt account that I had played on for 90% of all of the clips used. That alt of course was banned shortly after that from coming across the wrong streamer and it being labeled stream sniping. Not trying to make this about me, as I could honestly care less about losing my account, but you really can lose everything from really any way with Rare. There is no point in playing, either playing and making progress that you can expect to say goodbye to any day or playing to find pvp and hotmics only to get banned for toxicity or evasion that way
This game was on my wish lists for a long time, its now removed.

I am one of the few people who got unbanned from a permanent ban.
I received a redbeard for allegedly spawn camping.
What was the whole situation?
After winning a fight on the hourglass, a sloop approached me. We sank it in a normal way twice in a row. However, due to the messed-up siren song mechanic, he respawned close enough to come back again and prevent us from diving. When he came back for the third time and said the phrase "I won't let you dive guys," that was the last straw, and I started spawn camping him. The spawn camping itself wasn't pointless. I killed him until my partner managed to sail away to a distance that allowed us to dive.
The next day I received a redbeard. They told me I had previously received two yellowbeards, which wasn't true. They kept saying that the ban was applied correctly and nothing could be done about it, and then they blocked my ability to submit tickets. Only after two months, when I found a way to continue sending tickets, did they respond saying that after a reanalysis, my ban was false, and I was unbanned. For two months, I had no access to play the game at all. I even got a HWID ban, so buying a new game didn't fix it. No compensation, not even a apoologize. This game is really going in the wrong direction.

Nah the statement bout how Rare ‘makes it up along the way’ regarding what qualifies as ban-worthy is such a fact, on most occasions they accept ‘exploits’ in the game as their own responsibility to fix and hence don’t punish people for using them, but they literally copy-striked a tutorial (that I made through following another tutorial, which has still yet to be taken down) and redbearded every account on my Xbox because it showcased a ‘renown farm glitch’ that I’m guessing was only copy strike and ban worthy because it threatened their play time. Tutorial consisted of going to an island and picking up and dropping a chicken crate repeatedly💀
sometimes i'm amazed at how far this company will go to make sure they're seen from the outside as this shining white diamond of a game that is flawless and perfect, but then i remember it's rare and all expentations should be thrown out the window because they sure won't bother to have any sort of reasonable interaction with you if god forbid you don't feel like what they are doing is the correct thing to do.

As an Insider, I feel like we are no longer here to provide feedback as ask for changes before it goes live, I feel like the Insider programme just became a bug testing place.
The feedback of many insiders have been ignored sometimes, and many negative changes made it into the game despite insiders asking for them to not happen. And there usually are no responses when some feedback is done regarding those changes, because the developer team already made their mind and won't change no matter what.
Rare is killing their own game and strangling their own community.
I haven't played SoT in maybe a year now, I wouldn't be surprised if I'm now banned for not playing enough, what a joke.

There's an ideology that runs deep at Rare that has impacted the decisions highlighted here, but also in-game "combat balancing" decisions, "safer seas", "tall tales", etc.. They've always responded to the ones who play "victim" without hesitation. This is a company that is willing to make their game worse with clunky band-aid combat patches just because AverageGamer69420 on his xbox in his living room lost his castaways to a guy with two guns and complained on twitter.
I stopped playing SOT around 4 years ago. At the time, I was embarrassed I hadn't seen the writing on the wall and quit sooner. I wish everyone here still suffering from SOT addiction all the best in. You deserve better, you are not alone, and you have the strength to conquer this.

great video man. tons of props for all the effort you put into this. i really hope rare makes positive changes to their treatment of players and revamps their moderation team. i love the game to death, but cant play it happily knowing these sorts of things are happening. hell, part of me is afraid to lose my account to something like this.
I used to love rare, banjo kazooie and dk 64 was my childhood, conkers bad furday is a staple in adult comedy in gaming. Played sea of thieves since day one, bought and read all the books and comics multiple times, and stayed through all of the questionable and dry updates. The decisions made over the past four years have been heartbreaking, and seeing the lack of attention to feedback on insiders regarding future content shows me they won't ever change.
This isn't the game company I've loved since childhood anymore, its a private club of hypocritical adult-toddlers that bans or harasses anyone that happens to sway from their perceived morals and beliefs.
It's truly depressing that i dont even have the motivation to bother logging in and continue the stories and world that I feel in love with.

Great video honestly. We need to keep the attention on Rare, to hold them accountable for their actions or lack thereof in some cases. This can’t continue or the game will die.
Theb brought me to this game, not only because he was insanely good but also because he was really chill and fun to watch. I learned a trick or two by watching his videos which I still use to this day. Too bad the game has fallen to GTA Online levels of mismanagement. Guess it's time to free 100GB of disk space.

Great video, sums up all the wrongs doing of rare and how bias they can be towards people. The whole cheater situation keeps getting worse and worse with no end in sight. I hope for the best for you and glad you are actively speaking on this situation.
I’m so relieved that other people are talking about this. Me and my friend got banned (me one week, him perm on first offense) for upsetting some random who was acting like a tyrant. It seems like any and everything is bannable
I used to be in the Ash en alliance before They started charging money.
The main reason why was because I wanted to catch up with a lot of my friends who had a lot of gold and were by all means pulling ahead.
My experience with them was pretty nerve-wracking.
I got temp band for accidentally selling a chest of ritual skulls when chest content selling was implemented . And then, when guilds came around, I was perm band for advertising my guild in their designated area.
Yes, it was nice to have a place where I could passively get gold without a worry of danger, but then I realized that exploitation became a growing problem nowadays.
I've grown a lot. Wiser, I'm not good at PVP by any means, but I'm still willing to fight. And I have the privilege to be able to tell the stories of how I got certain items instead of just saying " I farmed for this"
I was permanently banned back in 2021. It was right after me and my streaming buddies got done dunking on this other players ship. I was banned for Harassment and bullying. Yes, did we talk shit by chirping with the other players yes. But nothing threatening, racism, sexism etc. Eventually got it appealed about two months later. Super frustrating. You can't even talk in this game anymore without getting banned
The main problem being if your simply good at this game you'll most likely get banned. In arena i received many yellowbeards duo to me tdming with my friends leaving everyone else alone, Then other ships would come over to sink us so we sunk them well ''camping'' them (waiting until their boat sank). I couldnt of said anything ''toxic'' duo to me being on xbox at the time and voice didnt work the majority of the time. the ''good'' players of the game get called the toxic lot, but i have 100's of clips of getting called the hard r genuine threats towards family or whatever but they wont get banned, but i get banned for camping or simply just sinking them. Ive been redbearded over 30 times if not more due to various things. ToxieSinclaire is an example in many cases (for me) ive ran into her one to many times on accident. the first time i got her we put holes in her ship and boarded then started to kill until they sank but me and my friend later received a red beard on the same day about spawn camping her where the vod literally shows her bucketing her own ship to stay up. i mean toxie is a sot partner and calls people some pretty crazy things but she doesnt receive a ban or anything.
I cannot imagine better future for this game if rare is going to act like this forever
Problem with a lot of Arena TDM was they started taking the chest and trying to win the matches as well, forcing neutral players to engage. I used to be happy with them just fighting on the fort, but after a time they really started to cause problems in the hope of forcing everyone else to take part or leave.
