You've gotta update your plug at the beginning! All of your profiles say you've got 30k but you're up to 35k now! Though tbh I think you'll be hitting 40k pretty soon. You've had some great channel growth these past 6 months or so. Love your work!
The whole gamer bro culture is the reason why i distanced myself from the gaming community. They whine and whine about menial shit, and harass people who may have the slightest disagreement about a certain game. The worst part is that these are grown ass men, not teenagers. Men in their 20s with jobs and possible family. It's honestly depressing to think about.
I distanced myself because I literally look like the people these dudes shout about being in their games. I'm Black presenting mostly (both my parents are mixed race but I appear black), I am LGBT, I am South American, I am disabled, listening to gamers constantly shout slurs like N*, R*, F*, Uncharted fans referring to Nadine Ross, a buff black South African sapphic (who has hair kinda like mine), as "black Jimmy Hendricks" and "n* monkey on steroids" and the T slur, I’m tired bro. They act like people who are multiple minorities at once are mythical creatures and they are so violent to them existing in games that it makes us in real life feel unsafe.
They targeted gamers. Gamers. We're a group of people who will sit for hours, days, even weeks on end performing some of the hardest, most mentally demanding tasks. Over, and over, and over all for nothing more than a little digital token saying we did. We'll punish our selfs doing things others would consider torture, because we think it's fun. We'll spend most if not all of our free time min maxing the stats of a fictional character all to draw out a single extra point of damage per second. Many of us have made careers out of doing just these things: slogging through the grind, all day, the same quests over and over, hundreds of times to the point where we know evety little detail such that some have attained such gamer nirvana that they can literally play these games blindfolded. Do these people have any idea how many controllers have been smashed, systems over heated, disks and carts destroyed 8n frustration? All to latter be referred to as bragging rights? These people honestly think this is a battle they can win? They take our media? We're already building a new one without them. They take our devs? Gamers aren't shy about throwing their money else where, or even making the games our selves. They think calling us racist, mysoginistic, rape apologists is going to change us? We've been called worse things by prepubescent 10 year olds with a shitty head set. They picked a fight against a group that's already grown desensitized to their strategies and methods. Who enjoy the battle of attrition they've threatened us with. Who take it as a challange when they tell us we no longer matter. Our obsession with proving we can after being told we can't is so deeply ingrained from years of dealing with big brothers/sisters and friends laughing at how pathetic we used to be that proving you people wrong has become a very real need; a honed reflex. Gamers are competative, hard core, by nature. We love a challange. The worst thing you did in all of this was to challange us. You're not special, you're not original, you're not the first; this is just another boss fight.
This is so fucking cringe I can’t believe someone is lacked the self awareness to see that and post it the original poster must have been a basement dweller extreme with zero social graces
It’s only controversial because conservatives made it a target of their culture war BS it is not in the fields of academia it’s most pertinent to such as sociology
I dunno if coining it white fragility was a genius or reckless move. On the other hand, it handily demonstrates white fragility in action. On the other hand, it causes white fragility so people who should learn about it actively refuse to learn about.
@Glockjaw Ive never read the dumb book, dont care about it, but the term "white fragility" makes so much sense to me because ive seen it in action my whole life whenever white people histrionically freak out at the slightest mention of racism. I always thought it was bizarre. And if the conservatives werent freaking out about that term, theyd be freaking out about some other ridiculous boogeyman blown out of all proportion.
Gamergaters are so hypocritical “Go woke go broke” “I can’t believe Naughty Dog is selling out to SJW’s with Last of Us 2! Selling out us real fans for money!”
It’s definitely a bizarre dichotomy they developed were the “oppressive SJWs” are both weaker and smaller than them but also more powerful and more numerous than them. It’s like pick a lane bro.
@@Zom13y It's actually a feature of fascist ideology. There must be an other, an enemy that is both all-encompassing and threathening your very way of life and yet so weak and easy to disprove and defeat that it's inevitable they will lose and all you have to do is lock step and follow the party ideals. Therefore "SJWs" are somehow these minority outsiders who want to ruin gaming for everyone and aren't even "real" gamers anyway yet also somehow are such a major force that they completely control the market and can easily destroy any company or person that does not pander to them. Hence why a person can shout "Go woke, go broke" and "Shills pandering for SJW bucks" without feeling the cognitive dissonace crushing thier skulls into singularities.
Reminds me of when a lot of comments FG RUclipsrs playing Mortal Kombat 11 kept saying that. As of date, MK11 is the best selling fighting game of all time and it was supported for three years. Which is pretty short for fighting games
#notallgamers I hate that people like the Quartering and Geeks & Gamers have became the face of the thing I enjoy doing. I was saying GamerGate was an embarrassment when it was hapenning and got roasted for my troubles. It doesn't help that the people in charge of developing games aren't that dissimilar to the people in GamerGate (see Ubisoft, the developer that refused to have a female protagonist in Assassin's Creed because female protagonists "take three times as many resources than a male protagonist" way to keep that old stereotype going guys, even though the franchise was practiaclly invented by a woman) and that nerds and gamers were laughed at in the past. But the hobby has become mainstreamed as it was always going to be in the same way that anime has become mainstreamed. The anger is completely unjustified. Another thing that tickles me is that they rage against feminists and SJWs taking away their sexy ninja babes and bouncing digital bewbs, yet whenever I tell them that their rage is pointless, they'll shame me for playing having shamelessly having eroge in my Steam library, y'know, the sort of games built around what they say they're trying to protect. It's almost as if they're trying to turn all games into eroge and then quit gaming out of that same shame.
@@GeoNeilUK I could not agree with you more These people are not gamers in my mind they aren’t nerds They are reactionaries that know they can profit off of white male rage and they go from that
I'm going to stop you right there chief. Of course gamers aren't oppressed, but there is no justification for wishing oppression on any group. The geeks and gamers types are assholes, so treat them like assholes and hold them accountable for their bad behavior. There is a big difference between that and saying gamers should be oppressed as you say. Especially as many have stated, those bad actors are not all gamers. So you are advocating for collective punishment for many who did nothing wrong because a few whiney douchebags are lound in their whiney douchbaggery?
Being a gamer doesn't mean your oppressed. It's your living conditions, the work you gotta put through, the relationships you build and government you live under that determines it.

As if the devs didn't tell us they were ignored by the money chasing higher ups or like we didn't just see people hording then price gouging toilet paper while trying to not be homeless in a pandemic. Gaming "nerds" are dumb AF.
Speaking as a "boomer" (36 years old) in the gaming circle... It is true that games and gamers had a stereotype when I was younger. If you played games, you got stereotyped as a nerd, this is true. Not oppression. Playing Sonic never got me pulled over or prevented me from doing anything that I otherwise wanted to do. I was there, it was fine.
Also, games were almost too expensive to really get into as a hobby when I was younger. I only got to do it as a hobby because I was middle class, not poor. They are *relatively* cheaper now, MAYBE. That's a BIG maybe though, PS5s are going for something like $500 or more over here.

@@TheKavernacle I'm such an elderly gamer that I had to go "wait a minute, MechWarrior and MechWarrior 2 were never on Xbox Live!" there. But yea, I'm old enough to remember when you could get bullied for playing games (but if you actually analyze the thing, you see that it's a correlation sort of thing, not causation). Still that hasn't been a thing for over twenty years now, and it in no way justifies the rabidly misogynist and generally reactionary filth the quote-unquote The Gamers pour out.
Ironically it was being a gamer that turned me leftist. After a while I could see that "women in games" weren't ruining games. Games were being ruined by boards of directors, CEO's, predatory gambling and micro transactions. Every gaming generation we got less and got charged more. The 60 dollar price of a game became a shell price and the small game studios were deliberately wiped out. Gaming is important to me, and I took it personally when capitalism killed gaming. Or tried to.
This type of politics is entirely about scapegoating. If a special interest doesn't want you to recognize a problem they have to present an alternative to that problem, that alternative can make no sense, it just has to appeal to a personal bias. That's why reactionary comic-book fans can't accept that more woke comics coinciding with a downward sales trend is not a one to one correlation, these people have been bred to fail at logic. Comics trend downward because print trends downward, making more inclusive comics is a - yes, perhaps a little desperate, and somewhat cynical ploy to expand their reach. From the top down corporate perspective. The problem then is that in a capitalist structure where the medium itself is trending downwards the industry has to aim for the widest target audience possible to even rate. So even if there were creatives out there who wished they could make less inclusive content (creative people tend to be pretty open by nature) it's a market trend that's tying their hands.
The "women in games" crowd actually knows this. They just blame capitalisms failings on SJWs or leftists. From my personal experience of talking to people and watching some anti SJW creators.
dude, the "capitalists" are just using leftist agenda as an excuse to keep pushing their own bullshit. this is what people have been trying to tell you SINCE GAMERGATE but all you morons literally just listened to the very propaganda machine that was being rallied against. nobody thinks "women" are ruining games, just that the leftist and feminist agenda is being used TO ruin games. ever notice how they keep going off about how inclusive and diverse and accepting they are WHILE SIMULTANEOUSLY throwing out even more abusive, manipulative and horrible monetization?
@@powerbeard5653 I don't know how you managed to angrily agree with everyone here, while framing the arguments in the least acceptable argumentative way possible and acting superior about it. It takes mental gymnastics that I'm not capable of. All I can really say at this point is you're clowing yourself if you don't think all this translates to "women are ruining games" they have a visceral instinctive reaction to any media that presents a woman as the main protagonist unless she conforms to cultural standard of some kind. Same with minorities. To them the mere existence of contradicting these stereotypes in any way beyond the framework IS an "agenda." Again, artists have traditionally been more open by nature. It's not "us capitalism" vs. "them capitalism" (which on the one hand it seems like you're trying to say, and on the other... not?) - okay, it is that, BUT there is no consistency to what they consider to be over the line, and yet they are fairly absolutist about it, so they're just zealots.

I used to think that Gamers, while not legitimately oppressed, were treated kinda poorly by the media. That was until the TLOU2 debacle last year, and kinda going backwards from that, I honestly feel like they bring it on themselves. Like sure, not every gamer is a toxic piece of shit, but there are a lot of toxic pieces of shit in the community. And the ones that aren't being actively toxic themselves do a lot to enable it by not calling it out the toxicity or just straight up brushing it aside with "not all gamers." It's hard for the media to say that gamers aren't a toxic community online if all they see is toxicity coming from the community and no one stepping up from within the community to call it out.
I mean none of that stuff changes the fact that gamers have been treated poorly by media. Some of it is deserved, absolutely. Some of it really isn't. I hate a lot of these examples in the video because some of them have some reasonable nuggets of truth to them but then quickly go off the rails into these cringy tirades.

They cried when the art directors decided they wanted the women in their games to look more like real people, with real clothing. A lot of Gen X and Y types wound up on the left simply because they didn't want to be told what to do, and weren't actively bothered by gay people. It's why so many of the "left the left" types say that the left actually left *them*: they joined at a time when the mainstream left's social vision mostly consisted of being less restrictive than the right. It didn't ask you to become a better person so long as you didn't actively try to get in other people's way. Many of them were subsequently turned off when the mainstream left began to present its own moral prescriptions. They were only on the left because the right kept telling them that D&D was bad, and now it seemed to them as though the polarity had reversed. I was never really a gamer, but because of my other geeky hobbies I was always gamer-adjacent, and I got in on the ground floor of the whole GamerGate thing back when MundaneMatt's video about Zoe Quinn was taken down and Mister Metokur (then going under the username "Internet Aristocrat") made a video complaining about it. At that point I was already pretty involved in the anti-sjw craze, mostly because of my involvement in the new atheism/asshole atheist community that sprung up around content creators like The Amazing Atheist and Thunderf00t, and I took to hating on Anita Sarkeesian like a duck takes to water, even though (as I said before) I didn't play video games and had no real stake in the matter. Thankfully I grew out of that shit before it started leading me down a really dark path. I think the rise of the alt-right and content creators I once enjoyed beginning to adopt "race realism" was what got me to start reconsidering who I was allying myself with. Trump getting elected and the Charlottesville Unite the Right rally was what finally slapped some sense back into me, and made me realize that I was fucking up and had been wrong about so many things.
Thank you for being so honest. This internet stranger is proud of you and happy for you that you escaped that thinking. There's someone on this thread whose just reccomended I go read thunderfoot, aristocrat etc views on this to "better understand" why it was actually the gamergaters who were in the right. Sigh.
I remember seeing The Amazing Atheist and Thunderf00t before they started making anti sjw and at that time I would not have expected them to be anti sjws as I assumed they were probably liberals because they were atheists and I associated anti sjws as being right wingers and religious. Also posting videos on creationists helped gain my trust in thunderf00t. This meant that when Thunderf00t started making anti sjw videos it was easier for those to sway me than if he had started off making anti sjw videos from the beginning.

They realize it. Most of them are fine with minorities being in games in principle, but they're so sensitive to tokenism that any actual minority character triggers a response regardless of whether or not it's actually tokenism.
If the appearance of a minority character is inherently political, than by definition the only way to remain nonpolitical is to effectively have no minority characters, which is a rather shocking admission to those who vehemently deny being racist

What sucks is that to this day I’m critical to Anita Sarkeesian while also very happy with recent strives in video games to increase the presence of women. My issue with her back during GamerGate was that nearly all of her criticisms applied to film, TV and cultural fables just as much as video games. And my feeling was that Disney had more impact on the culture and child development than Nintendo.
The closest evidence to say games are oppressed is there's a lot of serious mental and physical health disorders amongst hardcore game's. Thanks to the hobby's easy of access and high time requirements, but dose that make them oppressed as a group. No. Dose that means there's a lot of vulnerable people who can be exploited. Yes. Will the so-called advocates address physical and mental disabilities. No. So we're left in a situation where the vulnerable are being lied to by the people who claimed the right to speak for all games, while they also argue against any for of awareness that would help the people who they claimed ownership over. And before anyone asks, no I don't have a solution😔
I remember how many of them used to use Christina Hoff-Summers as their example of the "not like other girls" anti-SJW feminist (even though all she would say was that feminism oppresses men), and she always told them what they wanted to hear all the time, about how it was them who were oppressed.
Oh yeah I remember that. She was like “based mom” to these guys. In hindsight she just dealt with them with kid gloves and was more second wave feminism than third wave.

While it is true that a lot of geek media has been dominated by men, women have always been part of these fandoms, as fans and as creators. "King's Quest" was one of the first adventure games and it was made by a woman, Roberta Williams. Hell, computing and programing was originally seen as a "woman's" field in STEM. It wasn't until the 80s and 90s that men began to push them out, with things like games and the young internet, ultimately leading to the "brogramer" image of computing and programing.

Tho the latter always happens for most character reveals male and female.
While i do think that alot of the gaming animosity towards social justice stems from alot of the older generations coming from a hobby that was indeed socially stigmatized, it does not excuse the toxicity it's fostered. There is no denying gaming was typically a refuge for bully victims and neglected kids etc, people of perhaps material comfort but who lacked social circles and were excluded in other ways.

I'm into motorsports, and unless it's Nascar or Formula 1, it's almost impossible to catch a full season of races on network TV. Anything else and you have to pay for expensive sports channels, and they don't carry anything but one other racing league. Sometimes the only way to catch a certain league is to subscribe to its own streaming service. I'm lucky, other mainstream sports have it worse, let alone less popular sports.

If you're a gamer over the age of 15. You should not be putting yourself in the same category as scientist, you are not a scientist and never will be. Take it from a 35 year old gamer here.
You can be both a scientist and a gamer, my father most certainly is, many computer scientists also most certainly are, and generally there are so many gamers that there's no reason for the demographic of scientists to somehow not contain any gamer
Are these things written by 14 year olds? Oppressed poor nerds? Seriously? I was a nerd and a geek in the early days of video games (late 70s - early 80s). I was a poor kid going to school with well to do kids. I had access to video games ONLY BECAUSE I HAD RICH FRIENDS. Video games, until the last decade, were exclusively for upper middle-class and richer white people. As for the "wakification" of games: A game developer is a corporation. There's a limited market of white, middle to upper class, misogynist, racist, right-wing assholes out there. What do they do when they've saturated that market? They have to be a little sensitive to other demographics in order to expand their market.... Just like literally every other corporation out there. Even Chick-Fil-A and In-and-Out have had to soften their bigotry in order not to go under. Go Woke, go broke? More like Don't go woke, go broke. That's the reality which almost every CEO out there understands.
GAMER: “I’m not a sexist misogynist who objectifies women. I just like the games that I play to have scantily clad women with big t*ts and a**.” 🤦♂️ There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a gamer, but the gaming industry would never make any money if it catered to just a select few, and it didn’t try to draw in new customers.
There isn't even anything wrong in liking the big booba fanservice (assuming of course that one isn't some obsessive weirdo who doesn't understand basic tact). The sexist misogynist part is when it's the ONLY kind of representation of women the gamer chuds see as permissible, and even then to them it's always conditional (see constant whining about a woman being protagonist or even more whining if a woman can beat a man at something).

For added hilarity, consider that this whining happens with fighting games (see the rage over Dead or Alive 6 apparently taking away the "traditional" sentient breasts or the characters in the latest Mortal Kombat, Soul Calibur or Streetfighter games being "practiaclly dressed in burkas") that genre that has featued women capable of beating men for decades, Street Fighter II had Chun Li, the original Soul Blade had Taki, Sophitia and Seung Mina.
I hate when ppl say games adding LGBT characters alienates their core audience for that cause firstly, if you feel alienated by having LGBT characters in your media then that's a problemmmm, and second most of the gamers I know are literally LGBT, including myself. The idea of people "preaching down to us" and telling us we're "terrible" makes it sound like he absolutely hates the idea of being challenged in any way that requires self reflection. It seems so utterly brainless. Also, it annoys me as a gamer how eager and willing they are to hijack the culture around gaming to advance a right wing agenda I dont support. Talk about irony.
I think we were kinda opressed when they were all "nerds" by default and girls "didn't play". But now it's just another great form of entertainment, and a pretty "premium" one at that. So if you're a gamer, and you got time to get into it, you're privileged until proven otherwise.
18:43 late female wrestler named chyna was muscular and was supposed to win the wwf world heavyweight championship but was cancelled. If something like this happened today, anti-SJWs will call the WWE being "woke"
I’ve played games my whole life and never and never did the attractiveness of the characters bothered me. It’s really hard for me to comprehend their grievances
It's unfair to say CD Projekt Red attempted to pander to anti-SJW sentiment. The CDPR Twitter account made one transphobic Tweet, and the blame for that can easily be placed on the person managing the Twitter account rather than the overall views of the company.
13:50 No, it was absolutely applicable within the last 20 years. I graduated Highschool in '05 and video games still had a stigma attached to them, which carried on for at least a few years after I think. You're absolutely right in that it's completely different now, and has been for a long time. The thing I hate about what's in a lot of the video is that there are nuggets of truth here and there but then they turn everything up to 11 and go way off the rails. It ends up so cringy and absurd that it's uncomfortable to say there's any remote truth there at all. These sentiments are so disturbingly common that it's difficult to really want to talk with others about "nerd culture". That said, though my interests have, and continue to, primarily remain in that "nerd culture", like you I've never made it my identity. I've always felt it was a weird thing to do. These were all just things I was interested in. At the end of it all, most of these issues started and are perpetrated from within rather than from without.
Gamers will go against companies they support if they do something they don't like (Dexit, C&Ds, inclusion of irl politics, etc.), but their cause won't be taken seriously if they constantly not address their own problems such as scandals and allegations by sweeping them under the rug.
It's always been funny because, admittedly, I almost fell down the rabbit hole of, "Oh SJWs are going to ruin gaming, and take all the enjoyment out of gaming." Because I like the Mai Shiranuis of the world, the Tifas, etc. I enjoy that content, always have. But I've always, always wanted more leads that are women, always wanted more diverse characters and stories, and have never thought that both of these things are incompatible. But the single most important thing I've learned is that, even while I enjoy that content and probably always will, not everyone does, and not everyone has to. In fact, most people probably don't or don't care enough to make anywhere near as big a stink as people like G&G do. The kicker is that: Yeah, games are changing, they're becoming more diverse, women are becoming less objectified, but that's not even all games. We still have incredibly attractive characters, but they just make more sense now and that's wonderful. We're getting different leads, different stories and that will only make games more varied. You've got plenty of games that still fall along the lines of "old" gaming, and probably will for a long time to come.
Earlier this year I written an essay for university, and I namedropped Geeks & Gamers and TheQuatering and called them out on their stances on representation in video games.
I don't like the dominant historiography from many so-called "gamers". Their notions of what gaming should be are far too narrow, for the most part, and their history excludes the many contributions of various companies and developers.
"Finally with the glass ceiling broken, all the oppressed groups will prosper. Especially the most oppressed group of all: Gamers!" - Thomas Sankara, probably
I feel like there could be a conversation about having sexy women in video games and even having sexy dudes but the anti-sjws have ruined any nuance for it.
In my high school life as an outcast, fat teen, I think the scene in Mob Psycho 100 where the body building jocks are the most supportive people than the geeks is much closer to my experience that what media often portrays them to be.
It honestly makes me laugh everytime they say that gamers are unprivileged. Videogames and the hardware to play them is freaking expensive (double so in countries in developing nations like where I live) and not everyone can afford to dedicate to gaming the time that those so called gamers like to brag about they do.
Sadly the video game /gamer stereotypes were pushed into the 2010's in Australia. So I think that it's gonna depend on which region or country you are talking about. Consideeing the prevalence of mental health issues in society I think the left is rather harsh on men they consider 'losers'.
Capitalism fucks over gaming and developers for maximum profit and most gamers are unwilling to see this. Hell they all love the modding scene wich is socialist as fuck.
To those accustomed to privilege equality feels like oppression. That is really what's at the root of it. For all the flack they get (and in some cases deserve) "gamers" have indeed become one of the most spoiled, entitled, and pandered to sub sections of the geek community. You don't get to have billion dollar industries, entire sectors of the technical world, and annual long running game franchises completely dedicated to catering to and trying to separate you from your considerable disposable income for the sake of the ultimate luxury items and still call yourself "oppressed." I don't care what lockers you were stuffed into or how many swirlies you got in high school.
These oppression points this "gamer" is falling on, is just so wild to me. I'm a gamer, I'm full time geek. I don't do sports, cars, or classic jock things. Who the hell do these people think they are? I was bullied in school, called names, and physically beaten by people for being "different" and I don't feel games or outside entities are now out to get me. I honestly feel they unhealthfully latched onto playing video games during a bad part of their lives.. Maybe a breakup or spurt of unemployment and decided they could get away with shutting themselves away by calling themselves gamers. Failing to better themselves or learn from their mistakes. Failing the biggest game of them all, which is progress. It's one thing to slip into a depressive state and find solace in video games. It's quite another to do so, and then lay claim to a hobby as an identity so you can continue to engage in unhealthy habits. I like variety. I like games that push the norms and make social commentary. I like games. Even the wild and weird ones I don't understand. Maybe even those best of all! Because I have to WORK to make progress. Gamers don't sit on their ass complaining about the game, they adapt and enjoy the main loop, or they try another game. And with MORE games out there than ever in a single release year, there's no reason we can't have wide opinions and a huge variety of options. These types of boys are just fickle that not every game out there caters to them anymore, and that there's now a wide variety of nuance when it comes to discussing video games. They don't hold the #1 spot on the top 10, and it infuriates them. The entirety of the video game industry doesn't revolve around their opinion of what makes a good game, and it drives them bonkers. Meanwhile I'm here enjoying the diversity I'm seeing in my games, and learning about other cultures and people through them, and LOVING IT!
Me too! I like variety in my games! It's not that I don't like games where I play from the perspective a straight male dude-like character inflicting physical violence on people. But it is nice that I can also play games from, say, a lonely child's perspective like in Little Nightmares. Or from the perspective an Ace/Aro non-binary character so I can focus on the critique of capitalism without large breasted women throwing themselves at my character like in Outer Worlds. I like all of the little indie games that people make too that either subvert or critique games and gaming or that make a point of exploring gaming mechanics. I like how people are using platform games to explore human emotions aside from anger at the antagonist that stole or defiled their woman. I've played games about navigating grief, living with depression, childhood trauma - there are so many possibilities with a medium like video games. ...That was a little tangent. Sorry. But honestly I don't understand why they don't appreciate some diversity in video game protagonists. I've already played a lot of video games that asked me to empathize with angry dude like ladies man male protagonists. It's tired. Why do they want to keep playing the same character beating people up in different ways but for largely the same reason over and over again? Isn't that boring?
As a cis straight white male gamer, all I can say is, "Gamers! We are NOT oppressed! Level up your dexterity if you're so weak that you take any criticism of your favorite game as a personal moral attack against you. And allocate some points to intelligence, wisdom, and charisma so you can articulate an argument that isn't just a racist tirade that ends in rape threats." Also, related, I don't understand why gamers of all people are so against having social justice in their games? I'm like, "You're AGAINST underdog protagonists gaining the power to fight unjust power systems that threaten and oppress the people at large? Wait, who were you rooting for when you played Final Fantasy VII? Shinra?"
Gimme a warning next time you start with that angry chudcel lolz. Ya know what? I hope Bolson is the main character of breath of the wild 2. Yeah I said it!
I definitely think there's still a social stigma from mainstream media and the older generation about videogames. I don't believe any of the other shit. Just that it seems the media doesn't like videogames.
Whenever someone calls me a nerd I kind of just scratch my head. I was under the impression that "nerds" are smart. Even though a lot of people would stereotype me as a nerd because I like comic books, sci fi, and video games things that are traditionally "nerdy" I'm also skinny, don't play sports, and wear glasses, I'm not really a nerd. I didn't do great in school. and I don't really have any interest in math or science. Infact those were the subjects I struggled with the most at school. I was more into History, Literature, and art. Point I am making is that people are multi-faceted. and I don't think it is fair to just pigeon hole them based on their interests or even appearance.
Anyone who has ever played a game online has probably experienced pretty intense homophobic, racist, or misogynistic commentary. It's so prevalent that's seen as 'gamer talk' and if you challenge it at all you generally get dogpiled. The game developers should probably do something about it, but I have a feeling they're either in on it, or it's so prevalent they don't want to do anything about it. Gamer's aren't oppressed, they're immature as fuck.
I find that attitude of gamers feeling "oppressed" to be so silly and absurd because almost everybody I know plays video games. Gamers are not some isolated rejected disenfranchised minority. I'm frequently clowned on in my friend group because I DON'T play video games. I have no problem with video games. They're just not for me. I'm not trying to play the minority card myself (LOL). My whole point is that gamers are not this oppressed and hated community no matter how much those right-wing freaks like to think they are.
I don't get people who play doom after like 1 or 2 runs. Whats the point? Theres no more story its literally just shooting the same enemies nothing is changing at all. They're not even getting anything at all.

My fellow gamers need to realize how political games are already are. Hell I learned lots over the years from playing video games. You can’t escape politics. They dictate how our lives go and our future. Gamers need to just stop complaining about politics in games.
I remember when online gaming became a thing, my cousin was and is still really into gaming. Anyway, the racist and misogynist slurs were rampant it wasn't a place lots of people felt comfortable and like guys are really into brushing things off because they're conditioned to do so but, to constantly have N*gger or "you just raped me" slung around so casually really wasn't healthy. I hope Anti-SJW's feel marginalized in gaming spaces, they should. What's a casual off-hand or edgy joke to them is super hurtful and maybe sticks with someone else and the fact that they don't understand that or want to do that is weird af.
I have tried many times to find these Witcher 3 ads that are so offensive, but I cannot find them. Is the algorithm just that fucked (I mean... i'd believe it....). Therefore "SJWs" are somehow these minority outsiders who want to ruin gaming for everyone and aren't even "real" gamers anyway yet also somehow are such a major force that they completely control the market and can easily destroy any company or person that does not pander to them. I hate that people like the Quartering and Geeks & Gamers have became the face of the thing I enjoy doing.

Or tried to.
big agree.

GAMER: “I’m not a sexist misogynist who objectifies women. I just like the games that I play to have scantily clad women with big t*ts and a**.”
🤦♂️
There’s absolutely nothing wrong with being a gamer, but the gaming industry would never make any money if it catered to just a select few, and it didn’t try to draw in new customers.
The ragebois don't understand that they are the select few.
@@arskakarva7474 "The sexist misogynist part is when it's the ONLY kind of representation of women the gamer chuds see as permissible, and even then to them it's always conditional (see constant whining about a woman being protagonist or even more whining if a woman can beat a man at something)."
There was a meme going around like "The *blank* , The Person" there was a version of "The Game" being an image of the NaughtyDog logo and "The Gamer" which was a pride flag cause so many LGBT people like ND games. As I said I myself am LGBT and my favourite games ever are Last of Us and Uncharted.
But I guess all gamers are still just white North American/European cis/het white men, so I'll sit my black South American LGBT booty down and observe.
@@arskakarva7474 I agree. And don’t me wrong, I’m all for T&A. I am a dude after all, but it’s not expect. Besides; if I want that; I can just pull up Pornhub. The problem with these guys is that they think that they’re the only people who buy games, and if they’re not the ones being specifically pandered to; then they throw a hissy fit.
They threes hissy fit over the new He-Man because it’s supposedly “woke.” Well, I’m 45 years old. I grew up on the original He-Man. If anyone should be upset; it should be me, and I’m not bothered by it. I’m just curious as to if Prince Adam finally comes out of the closet.
much projection.
No self-awareness.
Such confusion.
Gamergate not a lot of things. it was a hate group. And in many ways, it was a violent hate group.
Ok
@@th3gov3rnm3nt What about it
Penguinz0 even states the word "woke" is a meaningless term
a guy at work once asked me "are you a gamer?" and i said "i don't really identify as a gamer" and he said "well i don't identify as a wanker"
I don't like the dominant historiography from many so-called "gamers". Their notions of what gaming should be are far too narrow, for the most part, and their history excludes the many contributions of various companies and developers.
9:59 LMFAO my dude mentioned nerds and jocks. I can't, comparing highschool popularity to real life just shows your own maturity.
Hell they all love the modding scene wich is socialist as fuck.
when they say gamers are oppressed, they don't mean gamers, they mean cringey people with toxic views, and they have a point..
And allocate some points to intelligence, wisdom, and charisma so you can articulate an argument that isn't just a racist tirade that ends in rape threats."
Also, related, I don't understand why gamers of all people are so against having social justice in their games? I'm like, "You're AGAINST underdog protagonists gaining the power to fight unjust power systems that threaten and oppress the people at large? Wait, who were you rooting for when you played Final Fantasy VII? Shinra?"
I am a white bisexual male gamer
I didn’t think I needed to hear Geeks & Gamers preaching to “Stale Cupcakes”

I miss games that were apolitical, like Fallout New Vegas.
I miss the apolitical MGS1 back when games were just games
I love the bait and switch that gamers pull to conflate themselves with scientists and engineers.
Been aware of your channel for awhile and I really like your output. Have you considered doing a piece on toxic liberals such as the K Hive?

"Gamers love Tesla because he was a nerd ...."
Dude... You play Doom 24/7... you have nothing in common with actual geniuses.
I don't get people who play doom after like 1 or 2 runs. Whats the point? Theres no more story its literally just shooting the same enemies nothing is changing at all. They're not even getting anything at all.
@@th3gov3rnm3nt play it on a higher difficulty, play new wads for essentially unlimited content... I mean Doom is a mechanically very good game that is fun to master. I actually play again every year...
And the new games.. Doom Eternal is such a great challenge that has so many ways to master that you really can just pay it over and over again.
So you know... There are reasons. But everyone is different. If it's story you're after, you won't find much in Doom.
