Please join Constance McCashin live in The Locher Room on Friday, May 12th at 3 p.m. EDT / 12 p.m. PST. Constance will be here to look back at her career as an actress and tell us about the work she is currently doing today as a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker.
Constance rose to fame at an early age on The Howdy Doody Show, but her parents squashed her early career so she could have a normal childhood. 25 years later she was living in that famous cul de sac on the CBS primetime series Knots Landing where she played Laura Avery for nine years. She also spent two seasons on Brooklyn Bridge.
After days on the set of Brooklyn Bridge, Constance got her master’s in psychology at night. She relocated to Boston, MA where she obtained a master’s in social work from Simmons College. From there she went on to work in the counseling center at Brandeis University, while simultaneously teaching in their theater department. The melding of these two worlds has resulted in a skill set she could not have planned for.
Join us on Friday, May 12th in The Locher Room to catch up with Constance McCashin live.

She is absolutely spectacular! I love her. She was fascinating, mesmerizing, and heartfelt as Laura. The day “Laura” died I cried my eyes out. She should have been there right to the end. I’m so happy she is a therapist I bet she’s helped so many people. Thank-you so much Alan for bringing “Laura” and Constance back to us after all these years.
You are so welcome, Jeff. I really appreciate you tuning in.
She's very nice in person too. I used to ring her up before the location of the store I work in, was closed. She was very personable. Can't wait to listen.
I hope you enjoy it. Let me know.
It's the 30th anniversary of Knots Landing's final episode tomorrow (13th May 1993) which all reference to Laura was omitted. This gives us a chance to reaffirm that Constance was as integral to the canvas as Michele, Joan and Donna. Do not let them forget there were FOUR women icons to that show, not just three.
🤗BRAVO🤗
I am sorry I didn't know that when I was doing the show. Damn -- thank you for sharing that important detail.
❤️❤️❤️
Constance is SOOOO entertaining! Thank you so much for this interview.
You are so welcome.
I remember being shocked and sad the way her character went out during KL's original run! Great interview, Alan!
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed.
Hi Alan, This is one of your best interviews! Constance is hilarious and a joy to watch. Her story about the game show contestant who won a bunch of money and bought herself some new "t***" is priceless. Please have her on again. Thank you
I read your post to my husband yesterday. Loved it. Thank you for your note and for watching.
Watching on replay. Great interview! Knots was always my favorite prime time soap. Constance is a hoot! Love her sense of humor.
Thank you, Lisa. She is a hoot. I loved our time together.
Laura was my favourite character on Knots Landing. By the way, loved the drama with the audio, real time soap ha ha!
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it -- I was stressed.
She’s just what I thought she would be - personable and down to earth and a bit sardonic. And she’s aged like a fine wine.
Right on, Jared! Thank you for watching.
What a fantastic show with Constance! I couldn't watch it live so I watched it later on. Bravo!
Thank you, Tony! Happy Sunday!
THAT. WAS. GOLD. Great interview, my friend!!! Glitches and all made it even more interesting! This was a high and a great way to kick off the weekend!👏👏👏
I appreciate you, Ron. Thank you for sticking it out with me.
Alan - watch you often - but rarely get to comment. AMC was my favorite daytime soap and those are special - but Knots holds a special place as I saw every episode and I will never forgive them for her "demise." I saw this at 12:15am PT. I didn't fall asleep until 2:30. Your show brings back memories. Constance was one of my favorite performers of the era and "Knots Landing" is the greatest night time soap (with all due respect to "Dallas") - especially as someone who lived in the North San Fernando Valley of California. I read that she had moved into psychotherapy. I never realized that she could do stand up comedy. Actors of a certain age IMHO (and I'm around your age) believe people who are 75 like Constance grace our screen. However, with that said, having had a phenomenal psychotherapist for 25 years (who just retired), I applaud to her for giving back. I agree with her that it sucks that the government cannot change laws to allow interstate therapy now with the technology. With her experience (and fandom), I bet "Con" could double her rates - I know I'd pay them. With all of that said, do you know anyone at either Dick Wolf or the folks who run Blue Bloods. Both based in New York City. With "Con's" experience as a top notch actress, and her background in psychology, occasional guest stints on the Law & Order franchise or a Blue Bloods would be worth the price of admission. Hope you can reply and send this note to her. Big fan since I was 12 watching Knots. Thanks Alan - do you have a place to support your work?
You are so sweet, Anthony. Thank you for this message. You can support what I do here linktr.ee/thelocherroom. Have a great Sunday.
She's so much fun.
Right? Hysterical woman.
Love to see you interview Donna Mills , Michelle Lee,and Joan Van Ark
Me too! I would love it. Let me see what I can do.
Didn't catch all of this when live so re-watching now.
I've always felt that Laura was the forgotten fourth super-power that made Knots Landing a success. We always saw in the press the mighty three of Val, Abby, and Karen.. but never Laura. But what people in Hollywood didn't seem to get about the rest of the country was that Laura was the everywoman.. the one that most female adult viewers in the 80s related to.
The housewife going into the work world, realizing her worth, moving on from a bad marriage as a single career mom, and finding love again with a man that was her equal in many ways. Once Laura was written off, I know a lot of viewers weren't as attached to the show (my mom and all of her friends even stopped watching when Laura left). So I'm glad she's finally getting some attention at last :)
Pretty much when I left.
Laura was the most realistic of the four. Karen was the saint, Val the perpetual victim and Abby a bitch, but Laura had everything.
@@DeepScreenAnalysis Hadn't thought of it that way before, but it's true!
Thank you for tuning-in. She was so integral to the show.
👍👍
Darn it. I wanted to see this live. Ill be back to watch it later. Greg and Laura were my favorites.
Let me know how you enjoy it. Thank you for the note.
@@TheLocherRoom People in the U.S. forget that knots landing was big in Ireland 🇮🇪 too. Great show it was and just as good as Dallas and Dynasty put together. Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Hi, Alan: Thank you very much for another wonderful interview! I am so glad that both you and Constance hung in there to make it work. When Laura (Constance) is leaving her home and driving away and saying to herself, "Just hold on. Hold on." I have watched that scene dozens of times and it makes me cry every time. She brought humor and realness to "Knots." Also, I love how she talked about how Michele, Joan, Bill Devane, John Pleshette, etc. came from theater. I loved her story about Ava Gardner. Having Constance McCashin on The Locher Room was an inspired choice, Alan. Thank you!
You're so very welcome, Rich. Thank you for watching.
Really, nice woman. I wrote her on X years ago and she took the time to comment, right back. Total class act.
Knots was one of my favorite shows and didn't miss one episode.
It was a great prime time soap.
❤❤❤ such a sensational, fabulous wonderful, feel good lovely interview👏👏 Absolutely puts a smile on your face when you listen to these two👍
It put a smile on my face for the entire hour, Benjamin.
Fantastic interview!
Thank you, Damian!
This was awesome! Thanks again, loved Knots Landing! She's a pisser! Laughed really hard that some girl said "you gave me these!" Lifting her boobs. Reminded me of meeting Eric Martsolf, I was floored, & said, "Nice to eat you, I mean meet you"!
Ha Ha Ha - that's funny. Thank you for sharing.
OMG ❤❤❤
I hope you enjoyed it.
She is the best! So glad she did this. Funny, articulate, whip smart! What a woman.
One of my favorites. Glad to hear you enjoyed it.
Thank you for a wonderful, fun interview with Ms.McCashin!
You are very welcome, Pam. So happy you enjoyed it.
Donna Mills next if you haven't already ❤
I have. Here you go, Heather ruclips.net/video/yzGylCwou-Y/видео.html
@@TheLocherRoom Thank you so much!!
I love her humor 😂😅😊
Oh me too. She's a hoot!
The great interviews keep coming, Alan! Even I have never heard that stereotype about being “very P&G,” but it says SO much about their soaps and soaps in general since Irma Philips established the genre with their support. I thought you’d fall out of your chair when Constance said it and wondered how much you could confirm or deny the truth behind it. 😅
I hadn't either. Was new to me, but makes all the sense in the world.
@@TheLocherRoom That underscores the need for you to interview Pam Long. She was trying to integrate a Jewish family on GL in the early 90s, through Mindy & Harley, but supposedly there was pushback that led to her leaving the head writer role.
@Oakdalian I remember that
I wish my mother could see this .❤
Awwww ❤️❤️❤️
Hi Alan, CONGRATS on your 3 years.... these eppis' are forever ingrained, and HEARTFELT... because we all LOVE THIS GENRE !!! because we never got to see @KNOTS air... this is HUGE !!!!

Excellent interview! So entertaining! Thank you for your show!
You're very welcome. I appreciate your support.
Constance if your reading this , people haven't forgotten you. You look in great health. I enjoyed listening to you , as I said before, knots landing was also big in Ireland 🇮🇪 too and Just as good as Dallas & Dynasty put together.
Greetings from Ireland 🇮🇪.
Thank you for watching, John.
@@TheLocherRoom She should have own show like for example Dr. Phil. Because Constance Mccashin is very intelligent person.
She was always my favorite character on Knots Landing and I cried when she "died" on there. I wish she could be my therapist in NY
Right? I bet she's incredible as a therapist, Mary.
Love her and so did my mother She was my mother's favorite in Knots Landing.
😍😍😍
She is an amazing woman. Thank you so much for this video. Subscribed!
Thank you, Eddie. I appreciate you watching and subscribing. Check out some other videos - you might find some you enjoy.
Loved every bit of this! Laura made me laugh, a lot. It’s great to see Constance has a similar energy . Great to experience !
Laura’s death was a moment!
Great too see Constance.
OMG -- me too. I was LOL'ing.
You are so right Ms. McCashin
👍👍
Laura was my all-time favorite Knots Landing character; the show was never the same once they killed her off.
🙏🙏And she's a hoot!

How luck you both were to see, Julie!

Thank you, Pam. I'm so happy to hear that.
Connie's unbelievably charismatic!
Couldn't agree more, Scott!
Your're so fun Ms McCashin!
Couldn't agree more, Pam.
I certainly do. My mother and I saw Harry Chapin in concert a few months before his accident. 😢😢
😍😍
Love Ms.Cross!
Me too.

Finally got to watch it. This was a lot of fun even during the computer breakdown. lol Everyone i know was over knots when they killed Laura.

😍😍
My favorite phrase Sturm and Drang
👍
I love the ancient history.
💛💛
My late older brother learned to tell time on Howdy Doodie
Ha Ha - Love that.
And fans to this day after Knots.
👍👍👍
My mother and I saw How To Succeed un 1967 in the cinema
😍
I'm so glad I grew up with out tech.
Ha Ha
I really enjoyed this interview since Knots Landing was my favorite show during all of the 1980's. I'm really sad to here Constance McCashin's character was written off the show and I always thought she wanted to leave the show after 9 years. Now that makes me mad that they fired her. The things we learn from your show Alan. That makes me mad and sad.
Awww -- I'm so glad you enjoyed this interview. Thank you for letting me know.
I watched Knots Landing growing up and the first season i watch is 4 which is the Ciji /Laura friendship. I thought it was so unique. Then they couldnt decide if they wanted to make Laura go bad. She'd get to a certain point and then she would go nice agaib.
😍😍
@TheLocherRoom I don't think she realizes The impact Laura had. The other 3 women are all great, certainly flashier For some reason, there was a realness that came only from Laura. I refused to watch after that Because the whole show Never got its balance back to me
After she left knots, she appeared in a Episode of the T.V. version In the heat of the night.
The tried and true way 😊
👍👍
question: Did you ever, get to do a REDO w/Susan Marie Snyder... i was crushed.... As the World Turns Femme Fatale, herself Julie Snyder... i had no idea she married Peter G. boynton.. that was a fantastic interview... fascinated by... he's not this iced up man in Oakdale.... love him
Even though we didn't get to see Susan, we had a great conversation. I wish her internet had worked.
Loved Laura, . I was pissed when they killed her off.
Ive been lucky thru the years.
Glad to hear it.
Same here
💛
I think if Constance would put herself out there she may be surprised at how many acting roles she would get.
🩵🩵she's so talented.
It is.
👍
My late mother always believed that about laughter being the nedicine..
Best medicine.
Yes!!!
👍👍👍
I know of Ms .Fuller
😍😍
Go ahead
🤣🤣
Saw that
🙏
Just like the days they would tell you to turn down your phone talking to a rock station.
😍
And I know a 21 year old friend who knows Knots

I'm so sorry to hear that, Pam.
HaHaha
😍
Empathetic?
👍👍
HaHaHa
👍
Had to let the dress out right?😅😊
🥰
Oh how I adore this woman!! I always loved how the character of Laura blossomed after Richard left. Their marriage was toxic af from the very first episode. Having Laura and Greg get married was good for the show and their characters. She could reach Greg when no one else could, she kept him centered. Killing her off was one of the worst decisions Knots ever made. It truly wasn't the same without her, and I'm still pissed about it after all these years! Constance is obviously doing well, doing what she loves, and she looks fantastic!
Thank you for watching. Love her as well.
Fragile
👍👍
Reboot
😍😍
Alan Constance was on all my children 1977 when Anne Tyler went on vacation she play a lady with the daughter with same name that Anne daughter who die
