I'm glad you're showing the community that the NM is one hell of an OP heli in the game and my favourite by far but four things i'd do differently with it: 1. don't rely too much on hover mode, you make it way to easy for regular tanks to snipe you. (i know you get a LWR before, but still) Better to activate hover and once its stabilized, deactivate it and go slightly sideways with a constant altidude, and when pinged immediately dip sideways, which is also much faster than going down in hover mode. 2. I know the square radar looks fancy, but i do believe the normal radar cone gives you a much better overview over the different distances to your targets and when you select between the targets and go for the once in the back you will much more likely spot an enemy, rather than friendly. 3. The narrow scanning cone should only be switched to (and i have hotkeys for it) when fighting jets to easier lock on to them when they try to come at you. Against ground targets i dont need to always perfectly snap on to them so its better to have a bigger search angle. 4. your standard radar should be AA and you manually search for targets on the ground, then every 30 sec you briefly switch to MTI to search for movement. This way you keep a clear sky (bigger search angle) and stay alive longer brother Hope these tips help, love your vids man, keep it up!
Ty, Hunter! I never used this radar mode/understood how it works. Just used to instantly switching to Air mode when spawning. Also I like running x6 Vikhr + x4 Khrizantema cause it has good damage against big volume tanks like Challengers

I feel bad for him knowing you fired a missile at him from 6km and he has no possible counterplay against you since the Mi-28NM has IRCM (Mistrals can't lock it). Plus, Mistrals have only 3km of range ... Gaijin really needs to fix them.

I never knew what MTI stands for. That explains why mig23s cant lock helis i guess. cool gameplay. Also 1 thing most people don't know about the vikhr pod is that it has elevation angles and you can see it if you are to aim downwards.
I use this mode all the time with my mi28nm. It seems to be more useful to lock aircraft though, so I switch to AG radar for tanks mostly unless they're moving around. A lot of time for the spaa's I will launch 1 or 2 missile while behind the ridge in their direction and let them fly for about 5-6 seconds then pop over and lock them up. Most of the time it works, by the time they launch its too late for them.
Sometimes I forget the NM is supposed to target tanks, I’ve become VERY fond of using it to slap aircraft and especially other helis around if my Tunguska gets taken out. Par for the course I suppose, given I almost exclusively play the AA role nowadays.
when i started playing the k52,after unlocking it after a month of grinding it,i love the ground radar that detect tanks,but after that update that left dead tanks on the battlefield,it became quite useless good thing mi28mn has MTI
The Apache longbow should have similar. The Apache Longbow radar could detect vehicles and launch hellfires, therefore staying hidden behind hills and showing only the radar.
damn I didn't see this video posted I missed it and I just bought this tech tree Heli and am in the process of spading it. So nice to know video here. The only thing I TOTALLY hate about this Heli is that the things engine cuts out when you hit a certain speed and then makes your Heli flip and crash so it damn sucks. I hit around 320km/h ..ish and See ya my crew is going for a flip. But its a job to get to the Vhikrs I tell ya

If you turn off the laser designator while the missile is in flight (like right before you dip below a hill to dodge an incoming missile) the missile will usually fly straight towards the last designated point which can often still kill the intended target. You won’t scrap as many missiles just because you had to evade this way. Try it out next time.
Just because I figured it out today: the MiG-23 (at least the M version) also his this MTI setting. Since I don't have any ground target options for it yet I don't know if it works the same way there.
@Hunter the sad part is tho that u have to change the settings everytime u switch between a Heli or a Plane in terms of Radar settings. "Target cyclic switching of aircraft radar" if that is not enabled i cant use the auto lock with the MTI. Or am i missing something`?
Hmmm my target cyclic switching is ON and I use "select target to lock" button to switch between available contacts. I don't feel that I really need the manual radar slewing ..
Hi, since you seem to be familiar with helicopters, I have a question: I'm trying to set my keybinds for the manual radar control. I use alt+A/W/S/D to move the cue around(I don't like the cycling function.). My problem is that the game registers the A/W/S/D key and so make my heli roll/pitch when I'm trying to use my radar. What I don't understand is that I have the exact same controls for aircraft radar and it doesn't do that. ONLY with helicopters. Do you know if it's just a bug/overlook from the game or I'm missing something? It's not gamebreaking but still annoying. Tried asking on the subreddit but no one came up with an actual response.

and that only shows how warthunder is Biased about Russian equipment. The Longbow radar should be able to detect and engage multiple targets at once, as well as detect fast flying or moving targets. At top of that, should have a AGM-114L Longbow Hellfire with fire and forget capabilities. In this game Russia have always better equipment and more advance technology in every single aspect. The Longbow radar is kinda nerfed in game, but for balance reasons I think it should work in the same way as the Mi-28NM and Ka-52. Also technically the AH-1Z should be able to swap one of its AIM-9s for the radar. The main problem with helis is how neglected and full of bugs they are, but the US tree is missing a lot of iconic and relevant models as well. MH-6, AH-1Q and W, OH-58, AH-64E with DIRCM...

I think F-16 is the best multirole bird nowadays, it is beautiful, iconic and fun to fly .. TV weapons are still less reliable than laser guided weapons .. so Tornado and Mirage are great competitors as well. The time of MiG-27k has passed, Russia needs a jet with thermal TGP for sure, I hope Su-24 someday.
You guys think the Ah64D should get agm 114L, it's the fire and forget version of the hellfire, either that or we can chose between direct and top attack for our regular hellfires
no but it should get the 10km hellfires and all AH-64s should have their armaments fully fleshed out. Also the hellfires need to have the on command ability to switch between ballistic trajectory (what it does in game now) and direct fire mode (fires straight at the target like a wire guided ATGM) which they can do IRL. You will in most cases get less range out of direct fire mode but it will get there much faster. Plus the minimum engagement distance will be reduced (which is an issue in some cases) but it will be superior for close range attacks rather than stand-off.

I understand wanting to have fire and forget but the KA-50s are already overpowered enough. Fire and forget on such an easy platform to hide is just not good for gameplay. Especially with how spawns are right now on ground maps.
It's a shame NATO and Russians don't get along. We did great things together during WW2. Well, the first half was really bad for the Soviets as they befriended Hitler and even wanted to join the Axis....then were stabbed in the back. But hey, at least we were friends for a little while. It's nice seeing pictures of Soviet and American troops celebrating together drinking beer, eating some food, being happy in general.

These bordering nations ask and even BEG to join NATO purely because its their only sure fire way of preventing Russia from invading. Any of that incorrect?

mi28nm has better radar, access to khritzantema missiles, and is more maneuverable. ka52 has another weapon bay, more armored, and is more stable and forgiving
That would make them useless. All weapon systems are "unfair" because they are literally designed to give you superiority over something else. Especially modern tech with outstanding ranges and accuracy. The more modern you get, the less dangerous it is for the user because it's designed to be used at further and further ranges with more and more precision. If you want "great war thunder" then you will have to stick to older vehicles to not get into modern vehicle's BR.
@@nick4819 That is somewhat naïve. WT isn't in any way a realistic representation of a battlefield. It's a mishmash of different unit types all competing for points against targets that shoot back. What weapons can or cannot be given to players is a perfectly valid way to balance the game. There is no reason a Tanks-Only mode couldn't be added to the game, or an asymmetric Attackers V.S. Defenders mode, or anything more interesting than Team-Deathmatch without the Team part. There is nothing good that will come from defending terrible game design, and WT is just that.
@@ka-50withsaams36 Oh don't get me wrong...I absolutely believe there should be different game modes! Tank only would be great. Massive PVE/PVP maps to capture sectors and move on with tanks/helicopters. But I was just pointing out that by nerfing a helicopters abilities to match that of a tank to be "fair" would make it pretty useless. Ok so you set the range of missiles to 2000-ish meters so they HAVE to be close enough to hit easily. Ok now you'll have to give the helicopters armor as strong as tanks because then that puts helicopters at an unfair disadvantage. I mean it would just be non stop. War Thunder SHOULD be using realistic numbers. That's what makes the game good. You'd be pissed if your APFSDS only did 250mm of penetration. "Oh that isn't close to what it can do at all!" Weapons are designed to be unfair. I mean in all honesty, I would be blaming the tank users for not be aware of your surroundings. Not having a dedicated anti-air. Helicopters aren't invincible and are in fact pretty fragile. You just have to develop your tank play style to counter them.

The tiger pars missiles ignore flares and ircm stuff so tbh they could’ve used that

Only Mi-28NM has MTI mode, other choppers like Apache AH-64D and Ka-52 have normal ground radar.

I think it is a server issue, this never happen in test fly.

AH64D can do this aswell which is nice but you have to configure the radar to be narrow, doesn't work on fast moving targets well though

the British AH MK.1 Apache can do it too which works really well with the Starstreaks for anti-helicopter role

You are not, and Mirage has it too .. but they don't detect ground units, it is unique on Mi-28 because it can detect ground moving targets.

Ka-52 doesn't have MTI mode, so yes Mi-28NM has the better radar I would say.

ka-52 or mi28nm??
mi28nm has better radar, access to khritzantema missiles, and is more maneuverable. ka52 has another weapon bay, more armored, and is more stable and forgiving
they both get the really strong vikhr missiles

That would make them useless. All weapon systems are "unfair" because they are literally designed to give you superiority over something else. Especially modern tech with outstanding ranges and accuracy. The more modern you get, the less dangerous it is for the user because it's designed to be used at further and further ranges with more and more precision. If you want "great war thunder" then you will have to stick to older vehicles to not get into modern vehicle's BR.

@@nick4819 That is somewhat naïve. WT isn't in any way a realistic representation of a battlefield. It's a mishmash of different unit types all competing for points against targets that shoot back. What weapons can or cannot be given to players is a perfectly valid way to balance the game.
There is no reason a Tanks-Only mode couldn't be added to the game, or an asymmetric Attackers V.S. Defenders mode, or anything more interesting than Team-Deathmatch without the Team part.
There is nothing good that will come from defending terrible game design, and WT is just that.
@@ka-50withsaams36 Oh don't get me wrong...I absolutely believe there should be different game modes! Tank only would be great. Massive PVE/PVP maps to capture sectors and move on with tanks/helicopters. But I was just pointing out that by nerfing a helicopters abilities to match that of a tank to be "fair" would make it pretty useless. Ok so you set the range of missiles to 2000-ish meters so they HAVE to be close enough to hit easily. Ok now you'll have to give the helicopters armor as strong as tanks because then that puts helicopters at an unfair disadvantage. I mean it would just be non stop. War Thunder SHOULD be using realistic numbers. That's what makes the game good. You'd be pissed if your APFSDS only did 250mm of penetration. "Oh that isn't close to what it can do at all!" Weapons are designed to be unfair. I mean in all honesty, I would be blaming the tank users for not be aware of your surroundings. Not having a dedicated anti-air. Helicopters aren't invincible and are in fact pretty fragile. You just have to develop your tank play style to counter them.
