This is the ethnographic, documentary film by Vladimir Markov about the Setesdal tradition of playing Munnharpa (a Norwegian name of jew's harp). Setesdal is a traditional district in Aust-Agder County in southern Norway. Place where the musical history was and is being made by Asbjørn T. Brokke, Knut Jonson Heddi, Mikkjel Kåvenes, Aany Rysstad, Gunnar Andresson Helle, Andres Rysstad, Hallvard T. Bjorgum, Knut Eivindson Brokke, Torleiv H. Bjørgum, Sigurd Brokke, Bjørgulv O. Rysstad, Knut Gjermundson Hovet, Knut Nikolson Berg, Knut Tveit, Folke Nesland, Bjørgulv Straume, Bjørgulv Rysstad and many other persons.

Great documentary!
I have crossed the world of jaw harps a few years ago and have been playing them since. The Norwegian style is my favourite, melodic and swinging. I can never get tired of it. Jaw harps are fascinating, not two harps are the same, each piece is unique in feel and sound.
I thank Jamie Bebbcorp and Sigurd Brokke, but also every other player I have listened to for being a constant inspiration to me and those who approach the harps for the first time.

It's cool learning about the history and the world wide tradition of the jaw harp. I have an Ozark harp my great grandfather forged and played...plucks true and sounds great today. Have forged a damascus steel harp in the Ozark style. I felt my great-grandfather looking down on me while I worked at the anvil & forge.
I remember... 30 years or more ago i saw a clip on tv from Norway, a man 60-70 year old was playing and stomping with his clogs, i just loved it, the song had a wonderful swing.

Hallo Tomasz!
Ich frage, weil ich Mitglied des "Berliner Maultrommelstammtisches" aka "Freundeskreis der Maultrommel Berlin" bin. Der Stammtisch als solcher existiert seit 1999 - wir sind eine Art informeller Zusammenschluß von Maultrommelenthusiasten, die sich regulär einmal im Monat und öfter auch zwischendurch treffen um gemeinsam Maultrommel zu spielen, zu fachsimpeln und das Instrument insgesamt zu fördern indem wir z.b. internationale Kontakte pflegen und Konzerte organsieren, bspw. die Auftritte von Spiridon Shishigin in der Berliner Kulturbrauerei.
Deshalb sind wir immer auf der Suche nach Mit-Maultrommelspielern, und es gibt Grund zur Annahme, dass es alleine im Raum Berlin eine Menge von uns gibt, die nichts von der kleinen, aber durchaus vorhandenen Szene um unser Instrument wissen und sich selbst wahrscheinlich für einsame Exzentriker halten - das zumindest dachte ich längere Zeit von mir, bis ich schließlich zufällig auf den Stammtisch traf. Wenn ich also im Netz auf einen anderen Maultrommler aus DE treffe, dann frage ich wo genau er lebt, in der Hoffnung vielleicht einen Interessenten gewinnnen zu können.
Die Uckermark liegt nicht unbedingt direkt vor der Haustür, ist aber auch keine Weltreise entfernt.
Wenn du möchtest, dann könnte man Dich in unseren Email-Verteiler aufnehmen, der über unsere Aktivitäten und bevorstehenden Treffen informiert - selbst wenn sich die Anreise zu einem regulären Treffen für Dich nicht lohnt könnte Dich vielleicht interessieren, wann unser diesjähriges und wegen Corona vorläufig verschobenes Kulturbrauerei-Konzert (einschließlich Khomus-Workshop) von Spiridon Shishigin und drei weiteren jakutischen Maultrommelvirtuosen stattfinden wird.
Grundsätzlich sind wir immer bemüht Kontakt zu anderen Maultrommelfreunden herzustellen und diesem zu Unrecht marginalisierten Instrument zu etwas mehr Geltung zu verhelfen.

Do any other parts of Norway have ancient well established Munnharpe traditions like Setesdal?
Maybe not as much as in Setesdal, but there are some old traditions for the munnharpe in Hallingdal and Telemark as well. Gol, Buskerud and Gudbrandsdalen are mentioned too.

Not a big fan of calling it "Jew's harp". We call it mouth harp (munnharpe).
True that,been diging a bit found this: Jew's" is
