Great video. I have a black Attitude LTD 2. Love it. Just yesterday I found a red Attitude LTD 1. After watching this, I cannot wait to get it and start comparing. Thanks once again.
I had a blue series one model (like your ) , a 10th anniversary in sparkle black and a BB714bs in Lava red. The attitude one I had was monstrous! The tone was huge and harmonics popped out like crazy. The neck was huge and it did neck dive. Mine was made in Taiwan. I never found any info on the taiwan made Attitudes. But the tone was the most massive full and clear p Bass I have ever heard in my life. I sold it later due to the neck being a bit warped. Miss that bass....
In 1990 Yamaha also made an Attitude Custom (with piezo bridge pickup added) and an Attitude Deluxe (with a single humbucker pickup and a multi position switch for the different sounds). I think those two basses were only made in 1990 (in Taiwan) before being discontinued.
As for the pickups, I'm almost 100% sure the Limited I had essentially a "stock" Model P and Model One ... just under smooth pickup covers and without the adjustable pole pieces. For the II, DiMarzio modified both pickups to increase output and emphasize the mids even more.
When I did this, I did not realize it was a push pop pot LOL....I figured it out after I had edited and loaded the video...I explained it in the description..thanks for watching!
On the limited I, after they were replaced with the toggle switch, the tone knob was push-push for a woofer tone change, and the p-volume was push-push for the output jacks…rather than pulling the knob, you pushed it in, like a clicky-pen…I’m sure there were changes, but I had two, one with the switch, one with the pair of push-push knobs 👍🏼
I'm planning to build my first bass based on the Attitudes, with a precision bass body/neck, stereo outs, a Lindy Fralin P pickup, a Curtis Novak BS-DS EB-0 sized single coil, and a Jazzmaster switch plate to control the BS-DS coil tap, series/parallel pickup wiring, and the mono/stereo output. The project is a bit ambitious as my first bass build, but i'm looking forward to the challenge...
Many of them I have tried have a little neck dive regardless of which edition. Between 2 and 3, I have not noticed that much of a difference in weight. I am contemplating hipshot ultra light tuners to see what they may do for evening it up a bit. Thanks for watching!
Awesome overview, I've always been fascinated with these basses and what they are capable of. Question, how do these differ from the Attitude custom deluxe? Saw one for sale on Reverb and the switching is different, and the woofer is hidden under the scratch plate. Were they just not endorsed by Billy? Or is it a lesser model not hand built in Japan?
The Attitude Custom Deluxe was the first model they made prior to partnering with Billy. It is an active bass and was their original design. Originally, I believe it was made in Japan but will have to confirm that. The LTD 3 basses are currently the ones being built in Japan. many of the others (not LTD) were made in taiwan over the years....thanks for watching!
@@bassjaymi There was an Attitude Custom and an Attitude Deluxe in 1990 and they were Taiwan made. The Custom was an Attitude LTD with piezos in the bridge as well.
Curious what do you/people commenting think is the absolute best p bass pickup for a Billy Sheehan style tone ? Both for Overall tone and getting closest to Billy Sheehans tone/playing style ? Basically what's the best Billy Sheehan P Bass pickup ever made in your opinions ? A late 60s CBS Fender Stock P pickup (ala The Wife Bass) ? Original 1970s Dimarzio P Pickup ? Yamaha BB3000 P bass pickup ? Original Attitude One P Pickup circa 1990 ? Or Dimarzio Sheehan Signiture pickups over the years - Relentless, Model P, Will Power etc ? Curious if anyone has a clear favorite above all the rest and why they feel that way. Curious if anyone has a favorite era of Billy Sheehan’s tone ? Talas? DLR? Mr.Big? Vai? Winery Dogs?
If you are looking for Billy's sound, the Will Power P or the Relentless DiMarzios would be my choices....There is a certain clarity that comes with those pickups. When married to the EBS Billy pedal, you can get closer....the rest is in the hands....
@@bassjaymi Thanks for the reply ofcoarse Billy’s tone is in his hands great point. I’m endorsed with EBS and met Billy few times. Your right on with the EBS Sheehan distortion. Mixing distortion with a clean signal keeps your low end in check and is the best bass distortion I’ve ever heard. Amazing pedal. Once years ago I showed up super early to a Billy Sheehan Bass Clinic at a Sam Ash. Figured the place would be packed and there would be a crazy long line to get in so came in a few hours early... Billy was there early hanging with Larry Hartke and since we had a while to wait Billy gave me a one on one bass lesson for close to an hour and really got my right hand technique going. He gave me a great tip. Since each finger is a different length... pretend your holding a baseball in your right hand and curve your hand/fingers a bit. You’ll notice all your fingers will become about the same length and playing consistently with your fingers fast is much easier. Billy is the greatest guy and one of the few childhood hero’s I met I had a wonderful experience with. Usually meeting your childhood hero’s ruins your view of them because they are jerks like when I opened for Dee Snider... he’s beyond a jerk in person and I can never look at him the same ever again. But Billy is a true gentleman. You couldn’t meet a nicer humbler person. Thanks for the response Billy had so many different sounds and pickups over the years. I know coming from a pro and amazing player like you it’s great advice. Love your channel. All the best
Great video @pinkbassmanmusic! Seriously considering an Attitude LTD and this boils down the key differences. I'm curious about how the neck on the LTD 2s attaches to the body, especially the front-mounted bolts. Any chance someone here has--or can point me to--pics of what that looks like? Gracias!
I have a 2 seafoam, do you feel the ends of the frets trying to snag and scratch your feet hand when sliding up to the highest frets on the g string? I do it's , annoying I don't know anyone to trust sanding anything on my basses so I just grin and bear it
Mine do not have that. Sometimes what happens over time is the wood shrinks a bit and once that happens, the fret ends will stick out....if that happens, a good fret dress by a skilled repair guy can nail it (unless of course you can do it yourself-which is awesome too!) that will help your playability. Hope this helps!! thanks for watching!
Big does not necessarily mean slow, my Attitude Custom has the biggest neck of the 14 basses in my home, it also feels the fastest. It is sort of a flat D profile in back, not a baseball bat round U shape.
Be careful what you wish for. The neck is big and fat and that is a god send because all that mass = huge tone. If the neck was thin and narrow i will bet everything I own the sound would shrink however for a neck as chunky as it is, it is also very fast. Just look at Billy for proof.
This dude,by far, is one of the most professional in terms of bass demos. Clear, well researched, skillful.Hope I get the Limited 1 I am bidding for.😁
Thanks for the kind words! Hope you get the bass!

Jesus Christ tone of this bass is incredible

All three really cool basses. I wish I could afford at least one of them.
like a hyper active ADHD Rickenbacker! It wreaks of Sheehans tone, but then again it wreaks of Geddy Lee too. awesome bass
They are killer basses! Thanks for watching!
Awesome! You answered so many questions that I couldn’t for the life of me elsewhere! Thank you. Much appreciated!😀
You are most welcome! Thanks for watching!
Great information source! Thank you for the video!
Love the massive old school low end from those buckers.
Nothing like it! Thanks for watching!
Excellent stuff! Very insightful! Thank you for the great effort!
Thanks for the informative review. It helped me choose my next bass. I really like the Att 2 and the price is right! Sold!

Thank you for the video!!! I´m using the LTD 1 and 2 and i´m loving these, maybe i get my hands on the LTD 3 on day :D

I've had a couple of Limited I models and both had a push-pull for bridged/mono output. Looks like someone might have modified yours at some point.
When I did this, I did not realize it was a push pop pot LOL....I figured it out after I had edited and loaded the video...I explained it in the description..thanks for watching!
Just bought a 1 what chord do I buy to use both pickups
Timothy Martinez you could get a Y chord that goes into one 1/4” cable

Hey Pinkman.. You're playing PUYA oasis riff.. Great video

I have a mk 1 bought in the 90’s and it has a ‘push/pull’ combining the outputs. Yours might be modified as other mk 1s I’ve seen had it too
nice collection :)
I love the Attitude II ..
Bass sounds like Godzilla..
Loved it Jaymi!!! So, out of the 3, which one do you feel gets “your sound” out the best?
I am really leaning to the 3 . I think they all have a special thing but the 3 really nails what I am looking for!

I believe there are also bolts attaching the neck to the body from the front (under the humbucker) on version 1.
Yes, that is correct.

Have you tried the "Relentless" Dimarzio pickups yet?
Not yet, they are next on my list of updates!!
Tone turned up: That rasp!

Have you tried the relentless pickups yet?
as a matter of fact, I just put them in my swirly painted ATT 3....They are hardcore!
@@bassjaymi you should do a video comparing the Relentless pickups vs Will Powers pickups. I would love to hear the difference.
@@garysanders3193 Let me see what I can do!
Nice basses! Does it come in the 5 string model?
Great tones. What amp and pedals are you using?
Tech 21 NYC dUg Pedal and Ampeg PF800 and 8x10. Thanks for watching!
Great pedal
Thank you!
Hope they go back to the Ltd2 neck pickup for the next version. Not hating the Yamaha Ltd3 neck, just prefer the Ltd2.
Do they come in FRETLESS?
I was under the impression the attitude did not have tone control
Edit- the p pickup is volume only, the woofer p/u is vol tone
I stand corrected
Yes indeed....tone control is for woofer only...
Are the necks fast or are they Baseball Bats??
The necks are like Tele bass necks and are STILL fast! Thanks for watching!
Try one if you can, the neck is thick but feels amazing. I was surprised because I preferred jazz necks until I got the LTD 3

The version 3 humbucker is made by Yamaha.
