The biggest misconception about Doom 64's Plasma Gun from way back in the early days was the weapon having increased damage per shot in exchange for the slower fire rate (presumably to accommodate the Nintendo 64's weaker hardware than most computers at the time). Which I chok up to being a developer oversight by Midway. The fire rate nerf without any compensations hurts the Plasma Gun and its why I ignore using it. If it dealt more damage, it could've stayed more relevant to the Unmaker in a normal playthrough and remain super powerful for pistol starts. It's why I like taking queues from DUSK for balancing a weapon hierarchy since that game nailed making its full arsenal useful under all circumstances without weapons overshadowing one another. But to its credit for its time, Doom 64 came quite close to that goal. Good video nonetheless. I agree with a lot of the weapon placements, but I'd personally bump up the Chainsaw and Fist in front of the Shotgun.
Good list! It's pretty amazing how busted the Unmaker gets, love it. Also I always enjoyed how the BFG projectile explosion sounds like a bowling lane strike...very satisfying sound effect haha. SSG is always the true king, but I also absolutely love the rocket launcher. P.S. I did not expect to hear testicular torsion.
I would rank the chainsaw above the fists, sure its riskier than just punching and retreating but the stunlock ability can really save you and mow down enemies faster and safer in the right situation. I think we really need two separate lists, one for newer D64 player and veterans. Because if its your first time playing then sure, the BFG and the plasmagun are amazing and can really carry you, specially later due to the amount of energy cells, and the SSG is S tier no doubt. But for someone whos already played a few times and knows most or all the secrets, there's really no reason to use the plasmagun or even the BFG over the unmaker, and I would argue its even better than the SSG, for how plentifull the resources are thanks to secret areas. Overall as a tierlist in general for all players I thinks is fine, but I would move di BFG down below the rocket launcher, its just too situational and rockets are really good at sniping groups of enemies above and in front of you and are way more cost efficient. (In all my runs I use the BFG maybe once but otherwise rockets or plasma/Unmaker are almost always better) Good job nonetheless 😊
Often my weapon choices are determined by ammo. I like saving plasma for the unmaker and bfg, so the plasma gun doesn't get used much. So I use more of the chaingun, but I also like how the chaingun doesn't push enemies away so I can trap a pain elemental in position. I imagine though the plasma does more DPS? Doom 64 has a lot of tight corridors so rockets can be pretty dangerous, I often end up getting an over supply of them. But they can clean out an open area pretty well. I do also prefer the upgraded unmaker more than the BFG for pain locking reasons too. You basically get a shield of enemies that are pain locked so its often the safer weapon to use than the BFG.
i think id personally rank the dual chainsaw higher, its higher damage and stunlock reliability raises it above the gimmick of the ordinary chainsaw to actually being useful
I don't think I've played enough Doom 64 to say anything.
But I commend you for the Blazing Saddles clip.
NICE video🔥🔥🔥

I have no sympathy for cyber demons
I can't believe there's 64 dooms.
Personally I prefer Doom 63 over this one.

Any self-respecting doom fan already knew what #1 would be
and I'd have to 100% agree with the list too
