So sad, imagine finishing college and going on a trip with your best friend and then this happens. She was so young and was just getting started with her life. 😢
I was just talking to my wife. Most people just go about life, they wake up, do what they do and suddenly, thru no fault of their own, thru some weird chain of evets, they become sudden victims of the most unnecessary crimes! No matter how street smart you think you are, it can happen. Its really weird.

And other countries also have "Freigänger" or prisoners who serve time for non violent offences or have already done some time can get work first inside the prison, then they can work outside the prison and only sleep in prison and yes those can be eligible for weekend passes which usually only happens shortly before the sentence is done anyway.

Multiple witnesses with no affliction to each other which was going to be used as evidence. its totally legal here in Germany for anyone standing in front of trial to hide their face/identity from the public. i would say 9 out of 10 people hide it. That being said most Media outlets know the name the next day as well as a Photo of the person. (Theres always an old friend or police officer etc that provides that to the media)
PS: i remember hearing the story on german tv the night it happened and i was truly shocked bc i walked on trails like that all my life, the thought of anyone of those people i passed trying to push me down, they would have succeeded. The trails are very narrow sometimes and not secured. Another person just needs to slightly bumb into you and down you go.

Update: He will serve a lifelong imprisonment without the chance of parole after 15 years. His lawyer recommend to stay in German prisons... On average lifelong sentences last 19 years.

Very heartbreaking for both women. Eva didn't deserve to suffer and die in the horrible way and her brave friend has to live on with tremendous physical and emotional scars. Such an odd crime in it's sudden, brutal, and depraved manner of execution. He planned it, chose a secluded space with access to easy disposal, and charmed the two ladies into following him, but it also has a compelled and urgent nature to it. In any case, I hope the US extradites and preserves the confession for a life sentence in the US. He does not deserve the sunny adult daycare centers of the German prison system. They should have saved some of the bad ones from East Germany.
