Here it is. My favorite Fate/Zero ED and my favorite arrangement that I’ve written so far.
All the Fate/Zero OPs and EDs are bangers in their own right, but this one just hits different. The dense arrangement, Luna Haruna’s smooth voice, and the absolute tragedy in the story all add up to create this heavy song.
There is such a pervasive melancholy in this song. Perhaps in the verses because of chord progression, the song doesn’t feel quite so sorrowful as you’d expect from a song written in minor; there’s even a sense of hope as the melody climbs and falls. But even then, the lyrics spell a different reality: “I wonder why the skies are this blue/Like they know nothing of sadness”.
All pretenses are dropped once we get to the chorus. The line “sora ha takaku” unveils a world of torment and suffering that painfully swells and crests with driving bitterness. Yet, even now, like in the verses, there remains a vestige of hope as we pass through some darkly colored major measures in the middle of the chorus before transitioning into a heart-wrenching diminished chord that unleashes a darker despair than before. And yet still, even then, “I’ll stay beside you/Passing through the frozen woods./I wish your eyes didn’t get lost/In the grief of the world”.
This song just perfectly encapsulates Kiritsugu’s relationship with Irisviel. Throughout the series she’s the only one who understands him and supports him with that understanding to the fullest. Does she support his ideals because she shares them? Only because she cares about him so much that she brings herself to like-mindedness. Even though she’s never seen the world outside of what Kiritsugu’s shown her. Even though she was created with autonomy and a sense of self-preservation only to be a tool. Even though in the end she knew that Kiritsugu would have to sacrifice everything, including those he loved.
And that’s what makes this so emotional.
If you haven’t listened to the Drama CD with Kiritsugu and Irisviel’s initial interactions, I’d highly recommend that you do so. All the images in the ED make even more sense and it gives the series that much more depth when you see their interactions.
As for arranging this, it took a few months because I wasn’t super motivated at first and it was a bit difficult. One of the elements that stand out to me in the original is the movement of the piano in the chorus, but replicating that verbatim is borderline impossible without significantly shifting the melody into registers that it doesn’t belong in. So instead, I compensated with a lot of movement, and I think it provides a similar energy.
The second verse was also fun to write as well. It took a lot of trial and error before I finally found something that sounded nice and was playable as well.
Execution was actually a bit tougher than I originally expected, not because the piece is extremely technical, but the technical difficulty definitely spikes a few times throughout, and hitting them consistently in recording was difficult. Even more difficult was getting the proper phrasing and voicing with so much going on.
I first recorded this over the summer in August, but each take that I got largely sounded like I was just trying to survive and play the right notes in the right sections. Now, recording this in January (a very recent recording compared to the rest of the stuff I still haven’t put out lol), it felt like there was so much more room to breathe and emote. Everything just clicked better.
And of course, the delicacy of the ending is sublime. Sure, it’s almost an exact transposition of the original, but it was truly a section that needed no adjustment to sound beautiful.
Fate/Zero is one of my favorite series of all time, and I’m going to cover all the OPs and EDs! Now that Season 2 is almost done (I still have the insert “Manten”), I’ll work on finishing up the Season 1 songs, so look forward to those!
Anyways, I’m glad I got to share this with you guys and I hope you enjoyed my rendition!
Until next time,
Watt

Dude this is a splendid arrangement. You’ve captured the tragic energy of Fate Zero so well with this. I don’t even think I heard anyone cover this on piano on RUclips before, and I can absolutely say you did this justice. This was an exquisite performance, and I’m glad I’m able to recognize the skill and ingenuity behind this arrangement from knowing the song and anime like the back of my hand, as well as understanding piano to some degree.
2:40 is impeccable. It's such a good experience to read that expressive description and feel it through the performance. This is my favorite Fate cover now!
Dang the dynamics in the chorus was so powerful, i rly felt the emotions there .
Amazing arrangement and playing!
This arrangement is by far the best piano cover anyone has ever made up to now. All the emotions are perfectly packed in and the increment goes up as you play on. Truly a wonderful masterpiece! Great job!
I know you put a lot into this arrangement, and it felt like with every passing verse you implemented a new idea/variation. Really enjoyed the flow of the notes/lack of emptiness at 2:10 and the fullness of the chorus. Great stuff dude
I agree, it's the best song from fate series for its emotions
Another day, another amazing arrangement by Watt.
thank you for playingthe animenz arrangement of my favorite ED of all time.;)
Okay seriously, you managed to capture the sorrow, bitterness, and love that the Sora ha Takaku tries to convey. I especially agree with you with the concept of ambiance being so important in this piece.
Lots of great stuff! Above all is the great control (dynamics + touch) that really shows your classical background. Love the three hand technique you threw in as well! Great one Watt
That was such a beautiful arrangement, it sure lived up to the anime standards, and thats a lot to say. The way you protrayed the emotions was just amazing, it felt very powerful but at the same time very sad, reminded me so much of Kiritsugu, reading in the description when you talked about his relationship with Irisviel made me so sad, thanks for arranging this, very well deserved arrangemnt to this beautiful song, relly looking forward to the rest!!
Amazing arrangement Watt!! Loved the dynamics and the voicing, and that part from 2:08 sounded sooo good
Oh, this is such a hidden gem. It somehow managed to hide within the forest of great music that is Fate/Zero. Maybe I also just skipped over it mostly due to too much hype in the second half of the show. Yet, this piece is so beautiful and you really did an excellent job on the arrangement. Thanks for refreshing my mind about it!
Man, this is so good!!!
I haven't even watched Fate yet but this actually gave me goosebumps! When 2:42 hit I literally let out a laugh because of how good it is, dynamics really matter a lot and you did them masterfully!
Also those right hand runs are so beautiful
I love all the ops and eds from this show. Ed 1, Memoria, is my favorite! It's so nostalgic and epic and sad at the same time I can't even describe it. And this second ending is really freakin good as well - the feels!
Can't wait for the video now
Probably don't need to rehash it but the way the falling voices elicits a tragedy is one of the nice details here.
Oh damn, Manten? That must've been one of the first songs I ever wanted to arrange since getting into Fate/Zero in 2012. The number of times I've listened to that on repeat back in the day, haha. The way you're sitting absolutely stunned throughout the special Kiritsugu episodes, and then for them to flow into the insert is just *chef's kiss*. However, I never got to arranging it since I never thought I'd be able to capture everything it represents. Best of luck, hope you don't get stuck like me.
This is an amazing animenz arrangement :kek:. But seriously, this is a really good arrangement and I think you portrayed the voices beautifully. The emotions were displayed nicely. You can feel the despair and tragedy but at the same time there are parts that give hope and will to move forward. Fate defiantly has some amazing music. Also happy January Wattism celebration!
This arrangement was fantastic. Every part felt so well crafted and carried the same weight as the original ending. Loved the power contrasted between the powerful choruses and verses with a lot of movement, and the import provided by the pauses.
Beautiful arrangement!
Best cover!
Damn you’ve come a long way with your arrangements, editing, along with everything else. The arrangement feels very full. Loved it!
This is Luna Haruna? I didn’t know that. Fate Zero goated btw
Really well put together man, yet another video that doesn't miss at all.
_That 3hand sections was 👀👌_
Good stuff man!😌✊
i think this version is the most suitable transcribe I was hear. you create a amazing work that accurately present the most important emotion of the song like a deep sea with infinity wave. I think i will practice this version. Hope you will create more transcribe. Sorry for 1999. My English is not good XDDD
Haven"t watched this anime. Do you suggest it ?
I really like 1:20 and onwards
Great Job watt ! But for a 6 minute arrangement I guess the anime's pretty good.
I suggest it big time, it's an amazing anime. If you have discord we can explain the watch order to you in watt's discord server
@@pastanick48 yh sure
Wow very beautiful
🔥 Phenomenal job, man! This is beautiful
Love the bass and drastic increase in volume in the chorus, and especially the emphasis starting from the Eb chord at 3:16. The use of a technically complex right hand with the continuous eighth notes as an additional voice throughout is quite unique and not something I see very often among anipianists nowadays. Great arrangement! Could really see the effort you put into this one.
By the way, the "ha"s in the title should be spelled "wa". Just thought I'd let you know!
I figured that since the hiragana is still "ha" just pronounced "wa" because it's a particle I'd keep the original romanization :)
Hello, your piano arrangements are wonderful, especially this song, love it so much. I know this is late to ask you, but i used this song for the bgm in my wedding invitation, I’m very sorry. I hope you don’t mind about it. I credited this video at the end part, and it was only for a month. I just had to choose your piano cover cuz it’s so beautiful and it match with my prewedding theme. Thank you so much for making this cover, wish you all the best.
I still have yet to watch fate😅 -and I will soon- , but this is quite the rendition, I most especially loved the right hand double voicing in the first chorus. Amazing performance as always!
I hope you have watched the master piece that is Fate Zero by now!
Love this 👏
Do you have any suggestions to play fast piano passages? Like at 1:48, I struggle very hard to be that consistent and light at the same time, especially on high bpm
I find that starting with practicing striking each key to the base at like a mezzo forte to forte dynamic while paying attention to get the pressure on each finger exactly even helps. From there moving onto practicing in rhythms helps too, except instead of just playing everything in one dynamic, play the fast notes lighter. You can do this with accented and staccato practice too. The goal is to develop consistent feeling across the fingers first, then develop the control for each note to be able to play it them that way within context. Hope that helps!
@@WattKeys great, will try and let you know when I get It xD
revisiting but on a different account
