People take music for granted, this is a legend performing, get off ya asses and dance. We played this last night and everybody was dancing 🕺 💃 R.I.P. this song is a banger and we will be playing it for years 🍻
I've watched this many times over the years and Barrie always seems a really nice, down to earth guy who has sadly passed away this week. R.I.P. Barrie and thanks for kickstarting my music obsession in '77
I'm glad to see 'Eddie' is happy and going strong. He was responsible for one of the best ever appearances on TOTP in the 70s - I remember jumping up and down on the sofa going spaz to this when I was about 10.
The singing reminds me of The Jam a bit. I will never get tired of hearing this song.. I was at school when this came out and hadn't enough money to buy it so I taped it from a friends record. I actually filled a tape with this song because I loved it so much and didn't want to keep rewinding it. My dad went and taped bloody Frankie Laine's greatest hits over the whole thing. I was devastated. I put the tape on one night & it was this idiot singing songs about guns & bullets. Absolutely Gutted!
As an American born in 1974...i had a shortwave radio in my bedroom...this song changed me when I was 10, granted it was old at that point. But I was the only Yankee that had there first single, in my neighborhood
Same here man, not as old as you but was just a young teen skateboarding with friends down the street in Detroit. Saw a box of music albums laying inside box on the side of the street ready for trash pickup. Of course we started digging through and we didn’t recognize anything in there, bunch of bands we never heard of. I ended up getting some album called learning English from some band called die toten hosen….took a listen through the album and this song was on it. Changed my life forever. Even all these years later, still one of the greatest tracks I ever heard and it never gets old
I was born in 1977. I am a music fan from before I can remember. We had a jukebox that played 45s when I was a kid, you know, back when getting together with your friends after school just to listen to music was a singular activity. I just discovered this band in 2018. One of the few bands with songs you hear once and jump up out of your seat from pure instant love and excitement. Rare indeed. Rock on!
Not many bands will ever write a song as good as this and in true British FASHION it's been widely ignored and seldom heard on the radio since I first jumped around to it as a kid. Brilliant.
One of the best uk bands of all time,i was stationed in Germany at the time Do Anything You Wanna Do was released,i got to see the boys a couple of years later, rip Barrie, they broke the mold mate
Ok, I have a comment here. One of the all time great songs, fantastic performance. Why is everyone sitting down? People my age singing along , know all the words, but they are still sitting down. Get off your blooming arse, go down the front and show some appreciation of the band! Nice to see the younger kids at the bar knew the words!
Indeed. Nice generational reflection, but a bit like a needle in a haystack. Eddie and the Hot Rods played here in Portugal, Spring of 78, at a 5000-large Lisbon venue, with the Go Graal Blues Band opening for them. when there were at least a handful of electrifying local 1st-wave Punk groups elegible to fill the slot. 1978 was another world, promoters knew shite and the concert almost went unnoticed.
one of the most beautiful and genuine persons i ever got to know, and not just our beautiful friend barry but the band as well, first saw him and the rods when they supported the jam,so you now know how f..king great that experience was
America absolutely missed out on one of the greater bands of the 1970's!!! As Music Director of WTCS, "Friendly City Rock", in Fairmont, WV I DID MY PART! Used to play them ALL the time! And you know how a lot of bands should pack it in 30 years after their initial success? Not true here! This video proves they still have it! Great!!!
I was at that awkward and influential age when this song came out. The lyrics shaped my attitude to life, work, adults. Even today I would advise any disillusioned teenager to listen to the words and take it from there. I saw the original lineup and also got them all to sign the cover of the record. Now one of my treasured possessions. BTW, There's another great band/ song I'd recommend with a similar message. Its 'Dont Just Sit There' by The Crack. Put the headphones on & check it out here on YT.
Go ahead Eddie you still sound great - we launched Paris first Punk hall "The Neutron Dolls" in Paris- Blanche on 1976 with your first album , together with what was there those days which didn't reach 15 albums ! The rest of time we produced Franch punk bands such as Asphalt Jungle, Johnny Thunder sometimes come in to spin some records . Glorious times ! Compliments - great band !
I have fond memories of that "Summer Madness '77" tour and the Town Park Concert. I was lucky enough to see them in 2017 and Barrie still nails those hits G-L-O-R-iiiiiiii-A :)
Bonsoir . Ce morceau que je faisais avec le Groupe Burke And Pillage me cassait la voix et que de beaux souvenirs avec ce Groupe que nous aimions faire des reprises .
This is the most famous misetimate band of the last 70's!!!!!!!! Sound perfect but they no justice in life : ( I see Buzzcok & on stage this year it was too bad but sold out^^
Hey! The guy at 2:05 i have the same t shirt!! i love jim Jones Revue!!..Eddie and the hot rods..they kick asses...Rock'n'roll can never die friends....
This is not Punk - it's what allowed Punk, it's root is in the Pubs - hence Pub Rock. Check out Dr.Feelgood, but the early stuff with Wilko Johnson. Roxette, All thru' the City.
I was at this gig in Harlow, 2 summers ago. Hot sunny day. Hardly anybody there, but a good day. Eddie & the Hotrods were 2nd on the bill to The Subways.
The KTs try their hand at The Hot Rods classic give it a spin - DO ANYTHING ANYTHING YOU WANNA DO - THE KILLER TOMATOES ( EDDIE AND THE HOT RODS BAND COVER )
What the fuck... looks like a place to bring the grandkids... sometime it's better to give it up before it dies... but they need to eat and pay the bills I guess.

About 3 minutes of absolute perfection
Shame no one in the audience can dance! Loved this song when it came out, one of the anthems of my youth - RIP Barrie.
Who cares how they dance you bell end

Doing the easier bass part (don't blame him) but I miss all the original high notes and fills.

Needs more Gray!
Agreed! Can't get enough Gray!
Crowds so disrespectful
Why make it sound so flouncy and poppy, l truly rank the original amongst my all time favourite songs but for me this version has lost it's raw edge.
Yes and the tempo dragged back.
