Happy to own A1997 TATA SUMO and an Army Disposed TATA SUMO 4x4. It's an emotion and my 1997 model SUMO jas served thousands of meals and medicines to the COVID Patients in the Quarantine Zones during COVID LOCKDOWNS across 5 districts. This was at a time when there was no workshop open even for basic maintenance. My SUMO 4X4 needs repair on the SHIFT ON THE FLY mechanism
In the current market scenario of SUVism, TATA can very well bring back SUMO 4x4 with some refinements... they already have the technology for it... retro looks will sell...I feel...

Hi I am from Pune i have two Tata somu 1st 2002 and 2nd 2005 victa .The 2002 model i have driven every where possible without 4×4 river, mountain, rocky roads ones in emergency situation I took 25 people around 2km to a safer zone crossing a river with 3ft water level.Hill climbing capacity is more powerful then any other SUV now days with sufficient load.
We had a TATA SUMO in our family from 1995-2000 bought from Coimbatore Gounter & Company. It was the first time we bought a new car in our family. I was in class 7 at that time. On the second day itself it had a break down. അതിനു ശേഷം അത് ഒരു തുടർക്കഥ ആയീ😀😀😀

09:23 Correction, 2.0 TDI wasn't introduced with Victa. Tata introduced the 2.0 TDI back in 2001 through Sumo Deluxe Turbo. Visually, it had seemingly smaller headlamps, different wheel covers, and different blinker designs. A significant power upgrade from 63 to 92PS and the torque from 118nm to 190 nm. It had a significant bassy exhaust note that you can recognize from anywhere, and it was fast, more than the chassis can actually handle, and it smoked like a chimney!

I remember seeing the Tata Sumo for the first time and I have always thought it looks really similar to the Discovery. I have a few doubts here. Why doesn't the car have a passenger side seatbelt? And why have you changed the tail lights (I wish you hadn't)?
True. The sumo really gives a lot of discovery vibes. This one didn't come with anh seatbelts. The driver side was added on. The taim lights were changed before I got it.

This particular platform was way ahead of its time. The only platform in India which is more than 10yrs old and still under production even in electric avatar.
