But aside from the hypothermia, if mom doesn't groom her baby, it won't learn how to groom itself. Swimming, diving, hunting, grooming, where and what to hunt, baby sea otters are born with none of that knowledge and it's up to mom to teach them how to be a sea otter which is pretty amazing.
