I am most excited about GoodNotes making their way to Windows. That was the only thing i got excited about. I will be upgrading to the Surface Prp 9 in the future. Been using the 2017 Surface Pro ever since.

I too am looking forward to GoodNotes, but this is a very refined product for the Apple ecosystem. My best guess is we will get a somewhat cut down version with features being implemented gradually over time. We have to remember iPad OS is designed first and foremost as a touch/stylus input OS, with keyboard and mouse being secondary - Windows is the opposite so I would guess that many features will be much harder to implement.

@@nbamford03 You know, I think you are right. I also thought the same thing, but I got hopeful when they said "made it better for Surface". I saw the screenshots in the promo and I did see the lasso tool. I just want the free rotate and freehand crop is all. But I'm definitely expecting a cut down version.

@@nbamford03 you only have to look at Concepts and Shapr3D to realise that you've been sold a line by Apple. Multi platform apps with very precise, smooth and intricate touch and pen interaction are possible on all platforms. What you've said is not even close to reality.

I'm sorry but for the price point, the Surface Studio 2 plus is a big fail. The fact it's running 11 gen chips and only has a RTX3060 is unacceptable on a machine costing over $4000 US.

If you want a laptop get the Brydge sp+. I just bought one and it's pretty good. I wouldn't buy it instead of a typecover because it's quite heavy but I'd buy it as an additional accessory for those times you'd prefer a laptop.

I found it interesting that they mentioned "Goodnotes is coming to Windows 11". It left me wondering where this leaves OneNote. I currently use OneNote on the Go 3 for my work notes, but have to say as a bit of software it feels extremely dated and I will be dropping it like a stone once Goodnotes is released.

    • @msp5138
      @msp5138 2 года назад

OneNote dated? Please explain why it is dated compared to Goodnotes.
I have never since any video saying the former is in the same class as the later.
Infact, it is quite the opposite, OneNote is rated as a superior notetaking apps.

    • @nbamford03
      @nbamford03 2 года назад

@@msp5138 Where OneNote excels is in it's integration with Outlook / ToDo. the search is clunky and the implementation of tags is just awful. Tags (and templates) are not stored within the .note file, they are stored on the local machine. So, yes I can share the file across multiple devices but the tags are lost. So, getting data into onenote is fine, but finding it again in large notebooks can be painful.
The UI is dated, it hasn't really been refreshed (unless you count 'flattening' the icons) for years. On smaller devices like the Go 3 far too much screen real estate is lost.
The infinite canvas is good in some in some cases, but OneNote really lacks the ability to have a set page size, something which is really useful on smaller devices and when working within a business environment.
The OneNote 'pen' menu is like something an intern bolted on as an afterthought. Onenote is really designed to be used with a keyboard and mouse.
I'm not trying to disrespect OneNote, but apps like GoodNotes or devices like the remarkable or supernote have really refined the UI for stylus/pen input. When I enter a meeting I want to be able to use my Go 3 in portrait mode with no keyboard and interact solely with the pen, certain tasks on Onenote just require too many menus / clicks and this hinders productivity.
IT is horses for courses, but I will be happy to lose the email/outlook/ToDo integration to use a piece of software which is designed for stylus input rather that a piece of software which tries (and fails) to be all things to all people.

If you ever get the surface pro 9 I would be interested to see if you could do a teardown if it. Making it easier to replace components, especially the battery would extend the longevity of the surface pro for those who rarely upgrade and would be worth the drawback of the smaller battery. Of course it would also depend on the cost of the replacement components. We don't need apple style pricing:)

I have one on my desk right now, but I won't tear this one down! Not yet... But check the recent Microsoft Mechanics viideo for more details on Pro 9 repair. I'll ask one of my Microsoft contacts if we can do a video on repair together. Thanks for the suggestion!

I would like to see msft focus and to do far far more with its cloud services. I have the highest spec Surface Studio Laptop and also the first gen SQ1 Pro X and I use both equally. I do not use my apple products hardly so that says something! I do like Windows 11 but why they do not do more polishing with the software glitches is truly dire and they should get ontop of this ASAP.

Not unless you want the SQ3 models specific features like 5G and all the new video and audio features.
I’d be upgrading my Pro 8 to a Pro 9 SQ3 if it was priced equally to the intel models (most of work I do that requires software the SQ3 can’t run is on Windows 365 anyway and the Pro 8 battery is the worst thing about it that the SQ3 hopefully would fix)

Apple iCloud has actually been a superb app for some time now. iCloud supports the native offline files feature similar to OneNote. It’s also let you access your iCloud Photos on windows for a while.
I think what they’re actually doing is just show an iCloud icon that points to where the iCloud app stores your photos. Still cool to see that being called out.
It’s not as seamless as with Phone Link but MS Drop actually provides another nice way to use iOS with Windows (curtousey of Edge). If you rarely need to copy and paste or send files between PC and Phone then it actually works really well.
It’s cool phone link let’s you do things like copy images from the phone but I think a lot of us sync our photos to the cloud anyway.
Apple TV and Music coming to the store is great news.

    Surface Pro 9...
    * Slight difference between intel-based and ARM-based: the ARM-based has antennas, and no active cooling/ventilation gaps
    * Battery: very disappointing -- it has been *reduced* from 51.x Wh (I think that's it on SP8) and 16h battery life, to 47.7 Wh for both intel and ARM with 15.5 h for intel and 19 h for ARM battery life (Lenovo's variation "promises" 28 h battery life...)
    * Probably ok with an intel 12th gen U processor (15 W sustained load), but several testers of SP 8 have reported that the cooling can handle 28 W load (which the P processor has).
    * The Voice focus on the ARM version looks super useful. It is a pity that this doesn't work on the intel version (lack of NPU).
    * Comparing the SP 9 intel version to, e.g., the HP Elite Folio, it seems like the "only" advantage the SP9 has is (i) weight and (ii) pen box in keyboard. If the keyboard is considered a "sleeve", the SP9 is lighter. But if one adds a sleeve to the SP9 and don't do that on the HP Elite Folio, the weight is more or less the same, I think.
In summary: somewhat mixed feelings about the SP9.

i really want to love my Surface Pro X, beautiful and sleek, and that LTE. How on earth can one use One Drive without LTE, relying instead on unreliable public WIFI and phone tethering? Unfortunately, I have lost faith in Microsoft products. My Pro X keyboard died 3 times, and warranty expired. MS personnel asked me to buy a new one. No way! With Pro X and 8 poor design for its connector, that is, tiny magnetic pin powering the keyboard. It won't takes long for it to malfunction. And now, this Pro 9.

I am not sure about innovation taking a 40-year journey. I always think great innovation, truly revolutionary, is much quicker. Look at when Apple released the iPhone. Within a few years, Blackberry and Windows Nokia were dead, and Samsung and the clever OEMs had all copied Apple. 15-years later it is a super mature market. I suspect the reason why the Surface Pro is still niche and stagnant is that it is not revolutionary, it is simply what some try to do with all tech, make a hybrid device. That always involves compromise and is not really innovation, just doing it because they can.
The form factor aside, the Surface Pro line are high quality, fast and now well-rounded to the point where upgrades are iterate by nature. It has a place and even though I use one, it is for its laptop workflow, and I have a separate tablet for pen use. I think Apple's philosophy that you sell the best tablet and the best laptop separately remains my driving thought. We can see the mess Apple is having with Stage Manager, highlighting the difficulty MS has had for a decade making a hybridOS. I hope we can discuss this in 30-years time and see if the Surface Pro is the de facto portable PC.

    • @msp5138

Surface Pros forced both Apple and Samsung to adopt a keyboard and accessories that hold the tablet up without using your hands.
No ones sees a tablet as something you hold in your hand to watch RUclips or Netflix any longer...

Unfortunately, I found the "new" Microsoft offerings extremely underwhelming. I understand the company cannot offer game-changing tech every year, but adding minor updates to a long-in-the-tooth product line isn't cutting it. If, heaven forbid, I need to purchase a new PC/laptop I'll look to Dell or others for the system. I was hoping that Microsoft would have also announced significant Windows 11 upgrades, so I will continue to use W-10 because I don't yet trust W-11.

I'm done with microsoft products. My SP4 stopped working the day before the SP7 was released. My SP7's touch screen stopped working two weeks ago, after one of the mandatory updates. How does the touch screen stop working?? I've never heard of that happening to apple or samsung products. In my opinion Samsung's products are far superior to microsoft's and cheaper. And why is microsoft not increasing the specs? You can get an ipad with 2TB SSD! Why is microsoft still offering a max 1 TB? I also don't trust reviews from youtubers. They simply parrot what microsoft says instead of doing their own due diligence. The battery life for the SP7 is advertised at 10.5 hours. I tested the battery life on four SP7 - not one came close to 9 hours of battery life - and that was with the units just being on; no internet usages, no video playback, nothing running in the background. With normal use, i get three hours of battery life on my SP7. Let's compare that with the 10+ hours of screentime i get out of my Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 Ultra, which by the way comes with a stylus. Goodbye microsoft, you will get no more of my money.
