That's an Iron Lung Cummins. It was about 300 HP, really really big power back in the day. Very collectable now. Not to mention it has a very distintive exaust note. Great find
Absolutely beautiful sounding motor. Especially with a back drop manifold.
Yes! Very barbaric sounding ! I once ran a Trojan loader with that engine in it, you could hear it a mile away!
NOT an iron lung. That is a smaller one. Supercharged model J I believe. Different family of Cummins.
@@jdman1930 That engine sure looks like a 743 ci to me, if I remember right the J engines were 401 ci. What are you seeing that I'm not seeing?
@@joecummings1260it has a single cylinder head instead of three individual ones, the supercharger is mounted differently and smaller than a 743, the supercharger intakes from the side where a 743 would intake from the bottom, the exhaust manifold is different from a 743, It's a whole different engine, I have two of the older model H Cummins sitting here to compare it to.
You’ve got a rare one for sure…an Oshkosh with an old “Two Six-Bits” NHS-275 Cummins!! A lot of folks call em’ “Iron Lung Cummins” today but most of the REAL old hands I used to see at shows 15-20 years ago seemed to prefer the “two six bits” nickname for whatever reason. Really any Oshkosh of that vintage is fairly rare, and this ones a 6x6 to boot!! Hopefully she’s got S-cam brakes on the steer in a fairly common size and not wedge brakes, those are getting to be a
B-tch to find parts for, and even some of the S-cam brake setups for those front drives that were oddball stuff is getting scarce…but you can always “delete” them if she’s not gonna see real heavy use. That Rockwell 6-rod suspension is about the best at articulating of any design I’ve seen….just keep good Trunnion and torque-arm bushings in them and they’ll stand up just as good as a Hendrickson setup but give a lot more articulation off-road!
That's a NHRS 275 or 300 Cummins.
Drove a 65 Pete back in 82 when I got my license. It would play you a tune and throw a flame when pulling a hill, miss those old days!
A neat relic to add to the fleet. The sheetmetal is mostly straight which is a first on this channel. A rig like that would have been used in the oil patch here locally. Lifting pump engines from pump jacks, gear boxes, setting tanks and equipment. You finally have a rig that Diesel Creek Matt doesn't have.AL B.
I am straight jealous of that rig. I have absolutely nowhere to put one and no use for something that large but I totally want one.
Me too & I'm in the UK but I still want that Truck.
Can’t wait to see this worked on.
That Oshkosh is awesome!!!!
Hey brother!!!! We need to get us one of these for a joint-project!
oh man yeah we really do brotha!!! BOOM BABY!@@Quint1836
One of my first memories is being picked up and put in the cab of a friend of my father’s Oshkosh snowplow. That would have been around 1955
275 Cummins i think. The sound of a supercharged Cummins is a sweet sweet lullaby.
Wow that thing is absolutely bullet proof. Waaaay cool man really good to see a young man interested in preserving and operating old equipment. Pretty much everyone who had anything to do with that truck are probably not with us anymore and their passion for heavy old junk went with them. Super cool old rig and great video god bless 👍
This is the Perfect Winter Rally Truck! You might get through your backyard without getting stuck!
This dude's voice sounds like Matthew Broderick.
That is a compliment
Wow AP&T my mother worked for them for 30+ years at the Corporate headquarters in WA State. I've never been to Alaska, and someday I'll make it. That is a really cool to see an old truck once used by then and a great old truck as well.
Small world! That’s awesome
Very cool old school truck. Since the truck is orange. Call it orange crush..
Another great old truck thanks for saving them
What a wonderful truck! Oshkosh 6X6 with a big IronLung Cummins. That is real heavy duty. When that old Cummins barks, the whole neighborhood knows it. Absolutely your best score. Get that Braden winch in the comments on a boat headed to Alaska.
When I left town in the morning people knew if I was late or early.
Used to see people at the Post office or somewhere uptown and they'd ask," little late ( or early ) this morning huh"?
Nice to see it's not all bent up, good looking rig. As allways be safe. Peace.🇺🇸
Now that's a thing of beauty! ^^
This will make you a nice work truck. Chances are good the Cummins will run with a new fuel filter and good fuel. I like it👍👍🇺🇸
there is something so cool the way these beasts look..and of course, sound...thx from a warmer climate than thou
Thats a real beauty, even the name is cool!
I worked at Oshkosh truck 2000 to 2015. Helped build a lot of trucks in that time. The P's and MPT's did not change much in the basic look of the truck. The new ones still had that old school look to them.
My Brother in law worked for Oshkosh & F.W.D. in the 1960s.
What a great find and addition to your fleet of historic trucks. Looking forward to seeing future episodes of working on it and it driving down the road.
Best find so far , that monster will pull a house off its foundation 👍👍🇺🇸
What a great find! Thanks for saving all your cool rigs, Onward!
Now known as the PUMPKIN TRUCK
I was a seabee in the Navy we had these up in Iceland for snow removal strong trucks good luck getting it going
Love to take that to the kids soccer game. LOL
Looks like a C180 Cummins 180hp. Cool project
Bad to the bone find-she’s about as heavy duty as these trucks ever got I think. It’ll be sweet to see her running!
NICE TRUCK
Note that those are air powered wiper motors, not vacuum. No source of vacuum on a Diesel engine without a separate engine driven vacuum pump. Since this truck has air brakes, those are logically air powered wipers. 👍
I LOVE IT... I'm in Owensboro, Kentucky and I have a 1976 Ford cab over that is a winch truck. They are so handy to do about anything as you already know. Finding a winch will not be a problem as there are a number of them out there. You will be happy with this rig, and by being a power company rig as the past owners I bet it has been well cared for. I would guess it just got older and was replaced with a newer rig. Good luck and I'm looking forward to see you start on this jewel... And keep the Great videos coming, we all Love them.. ..God bless & Godspeed my Friend...
In Michigan they used the 4x4 version with a v or wing plow, with a couple ton block of concrete on the back. You could hear them coming from a couple of miles away, they were not fast but they made up for that in power. The guys driving them said you had to leave the window down because they didn't make enough heat to keep the windshield defrosted, an boy did they swear about having to drive them. In 1978 they chained two of them together with pipes over the chains and then coupled three grader trucks to the back, five trucks pushing and pulling each other to break through the drifts from the massive blizzard, that lasted a week it was impressive to say the least.
Come on spring! That's a beast!
What a handy unit!! No getting stuck lifting projects with that setup. 💪 👍 👌
Nice old truck (NHRS Cummins)
That is a beast bro, look forward to seeing you driving it around.👌👍🇺🇸🤘🔥
Man, I really like that truck. It just drips coolness and toughness. I can only imagine the places beyond the middle of nowhere that rig has crawled into. I’m really excited to see it go. It’s to bad your so far away, I have a huge chain drive winch sitting here in the woods here in western Washington. It’s a 10 ton old ex military winch and I believe it was a Braden as well. It would fit right on there. My Dad had it mounted on a 1964 GMC one ton truck with the box removed that he used to yard logs out of the woods. It was powered by the trucks driveline so it had 4 speeds forward and one reverse. It was super strong and worked well. Come and get it, it’s only about 2500 miles one way! 🙂
He will send you a stamp .Just throw it in the mail.
@@Bobbycat115 😄
I remember seeing these around Buffalo, NY, they'd use them with plows and blowers to open up the highways and airport after a big blizzard. Point the chute in the right direction and it could throw snow into the next state.
Great truck, Would like a couple of hours behind the wheel in it's natural habitat. Cheers
Will love to see this old girl running
very nice old truck. Good luck with it. Perfect addition to your collection.
King of the Fleet
Sweet old rig. Can’t wait for spring.
Mover and shaker in style.
awesome
Spring? Let’s throw some juice to her and roll a little coal! We don’t need a transmission…..lol nice find,it’s gonna be a powerhouse!
Love it, can't wait for first start
I am looking forward to hear that one idle
The Wisconsin sledge hammer!
That’s awesome can’t wait to see it back to life
Nice!
She is a beauty, I have a 1941 W404 4x4 plow truck with a swapped in 2 valve 4-71 detroit running and yard driving. I would love to get a 6x6 version just like that. Can't wait to see what the future holds for yours.
COOL truck! Looking forward!
I can't wait to see you have it running hopefully the trans doesn't have to much water in it you may actually need to put in windshields in it so no more water in the transmission it's going to be an awesome truck with the correct winch you should be able to lift most things you need to 👍👍👍
That thing is a beauty! Can wait to see her some more.
I bet if you throw some fresh-ish tires on it service the brakes and fix that transmission if you get her going she will be the ultimate machine and you can do all kinds of things since she has a title. On another note can we talk about the honking tonking overload springs on that front axle those almost look as big as the ones on my 67 c50 with 22k rear springs.
That Beast needs Restoration ! 😊
I love this content brother!
Man, you have found some real beasts here lately! Great fun!
Another beautiful lady. I heard you got a big snow storm. Hopefully you stayed comfortable? Always enjoy your videos. Thanks for sharing.
That would be a power pole setting beast. Great find
That ol girl is beautiful ....
The perfect grocery getter for me....daily driver...
Awesome edition
Really cool. Cool patina on the doors not faded. Still very legible. That truck is older than me. By one year😅
Oshkosh by gosh ! It even has the air conditioner option in the windshield !
I hope that You can find a winch for it.
Thanks for sharing. Best Wishes.
Love the truck. Looking forward to the spring revival.
Seen many of these old Oshkosh trucks used as rotary plows in rural Idaho. Two I can recall being 6×6s with dump beds.
Never seen one with Cummins. They all had 1673 Caterpillars.
Looking forward to seeing you get started on this one.
I have the 4x4 version. It has a 6-71 swapped in. It was originally equipped with a v plow and something called a Ro-tow wing.
Yours is pretty cool
Im excited to hear this truck fire up in a long time. The transmission seems to be a typical Ethan-Fuller manual transmission so it should not be too hard to find replacement parts or unstuck it.
That's One Rippin piece of IRON!!!
Nice addition to the fleet. Can't wait to see the resurrection videos.
cool whip!!
Looks like a great find! Should be a good spring project to get the Cummins fired up!
Can't wait for the update, thanks for posting now go find more cool trophies😊
Beast of a rig. Nice score!
Yay a diesel finally. Hope you don't have too many gel issues up there. 😮
🤣
Nice, your collection is growing fast.
Very cool! Looking forward to more videos and progress
Sweet rig..nice save...look forward to seeing her revival..
It's grate I like the setup on kw wva.😂
That is freaking awesome I love it
Just recently found your channel dude. I live in southern Illinois and it’s so cool all these old rigs you guys got up there.
Can't wait to see you get this one running.
Great video. Keep em comin!
Great job scoring this rig. I'd start out with a chain fall on the boom until you can score a winch. I can't wait till spring to hear it run. Get some heat to the tranny so it doesn't crack the case. Over that you rate actually having snow. lol
Wow. Another score. 😊❤
The sound of you walking in snow makes my ass pucker right up 🤣 we’ve had an unbelievably nice fall here in Minnesota and I’m not looking forward to the white devil falling anytime soon. Very cool truck bud! 👍
Nice
Sweet Truck!
That's a beast of a truck! Should be a interesting project.
Great that window replaced !
Super cool scavenge! Your fleet just keeps getting bigger and badder.
Good looking rig I know you are going to do it right
You have knack for finding really cool stuff. Could this be the most interesting yet? I'll be following along. Thanks see ya next video.
3:17 Cool that's the same air brake control bolted on the dash that was in the 1970's Steven Spielberg movie Duel with Dennis Weaver at the end of the movie when the truck was pushing the car off the cliff the driver snatch the air brake to try to keep the semi from going over the cliff too.
First thing I thought of when I saw it! Great movie
Very cool buddy!!!😊😊
