    Leaning towards Green Smoke in my NE facing living room. I have lots of oak furniture, floors, fireplace (contemplating painting that GS also) and many openings, triple window, front door, staircase on one wall, 2 sets of double openings and one single opening. I'm usually very good at this but this room has been such a challenge. Being here 10 years, last project to tackle. Any words of wisdom?

      If you want to lean into the darkness, use green smoke and colour drench everywhere, including the fireplace and ceiling! This will make the room feel darker in the corners that suck light though which is something to be aware of - alternatively, pair with something like Shaded White, green based white which will complement it and balance the depth of green smoke. Sometimes it's easier for me to visualise when I can see the space, so if you would like more advice, please attach an image to a comment on my blog so I can give more targeted advice, thanks! - www.sleek-chic.co.uk/2023/07/farrow-and-ball-north-facing-room.html

    Great video thank you., I have a period house that I'm about to paint my large sitting and dining room are currently painted dark green and I want to completely lighten the rooms. Theres a lot of white woodwork and on the shutters and windows. I also need a colour for hall stairs and landing to complement the reception rooms. The front of the house is west facing with a fan light over the hall door. Any advice please😊

      @NicoleSage  Месяц назад

      Thank you! Okay, so for hallways unless you want to lean into the darkness, a nice neutral with slightly darker tone on skirtings is a great place to start, you can build colour but it allows the other rooms to be a bit bolder. SO many options in reality and combinations, but something like Schoolhouse White on the walls and Drop Cloth on the skirtings looks gorgeous, you can have fun with the stairs and introduce something bold and punchy here, terracottas and reds are really fun, or a sage green for a bit of warmth, if you want things more traditional, try Railings on the spindles which will add definition. In the sitting and dining room, another soft neutral will keep things feeling warm throughout the day, look at Oxford Stone, Old White and Bone. Happy to share some more suggestions depending on what types of colours you are drawn towards, there is just so many different ways you could take a gorgeous period house! :)

      Thanks so much for your reply. I love your suggestions for the hallway and am going to consider railings for the spindles. Where do you think i could find photos if a similar colour scheme in a period house? However I don't really like the colour suggestions for the reception rooms. 😅 I would be delighted with some other thoughts in these rooms please. Thanks so much. Paula

    I have bought a home with south in Aus facing living room and bedroom. The present wall colours are a hideous daggy off white probably a warm white like she showed initially. A tradesman just commented that every home he goes into has walls the same, he agreed they are awful. I am looking to get deep and rich colour . The floors are lovely timber. I usually have very light and airy homes, this is different and needs substance that these weak colours won’t give

    Ah thank you so much for this. I want to try a slightly green aligned blue that's more of a light-medium to get a more old fashioned but bright feeling on sunny days but a Victorian gothic feeling on dull ones, but I've been very worried about that making the room too cool feeling.

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  Месяц назад

      Sounds like a gorgeous vision! The only thing I will say is that any really dark corners suck the light out even more if they have a dark colour on them, so do paint an A4 sheet of paper with the colour beforehand so you can move it around the space and see how it feels on both bright and super dark days, it takes a while more to decide but it will alleviate picking a colour that makes it feel too cold, hope that helps!

    • @es4666

      I would try a colour like oval room blue. Try 2 coats onto paper/card and move it around the room under different lighting conditions - including in the evening with artificial light - whichever lamp you would actually use.

    What about darker warmer paints for halls?I have kids and unfortunately my walls are always dirty,marks etc..I used to have magnolia but it is too light;/

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  21 день назад

      Totally get this, we have a dog and it's filthy constantly! I would personally use eggshell paint on the walls like skirting, more durable and easier to clean unlike emulsion which generally ends up taking the paint off when you rub it. You could also do panelling if you wanted something darker on the lower part of the wall. Is your hallway dark or does it get a lot of light? I can then suggest some shades that would work best :)

      Thanks for watching! So, if you want something quite bright I’d look at Pointing, close to a bright white but has a red base so is warm and will draw the eye up, or for something more subdued but still warm, have a look at James White 😊

      Hi that was such a helpful video, thank you. Could you give me a bit of help! I have an east facing bedroom that gets a lot of light in the morning. One wall has a bank of wardrobes painted in studio green. I am at a loss as to the walls. There are some things on the shelves that are an orangy/ tangerine colour which seems to go well. But I'm really not sure what to do. Can you help me in my conundrum!

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  4 месяца назад

      @@emmaandrews3969 Thanks for watching :) Okay, so I would personally lean into an off-white with grey or green undertones which will pair well with studio green but will balance well with the light the room receives - look at Wevet and Off white. You'll have a gorgeous foundation then for the green to pop and any accent colours you have on the shelves. Definitely get a tester beforehand and see how it looks in the light, paint onto an A4 sheet of paper so you can easily move around the room to see how the light affects it. Hope that helps!

      Thank you! As you have those grey tones which are naturally dark, I'd add something warm toned, yellow, red or pink based to bring some warmth in. Look at Dimity, School House White, Oxford Stone or if you don't mind something a bit cooler, Skimming Stone has light grey tones so would pair well with your carpet and flooring. Hope that helps!

    Thanks for your advice. I have a small north facing bedroom that I use as a holistic treatment room. Currently it is a mid yellow and I'm using orange as an accent colour.
    I am looking for a lighter main colour to make the room feel fresher and lighter, but still want to use the orange.
    I would appreciate any recommendations if you get chance.
    Again, thank you for your video.

      Thanks for watching! A warm orange is great for warming a space up, I’d definitely be inclined to pair with a warm white to balance the intensity of the orange, have a look at Matchstick, String or Dimity - they have warm undertones so will work well in the North facing space. Grab a tester first so you can see how they pair with your specific orange, hope that helps!

    I love how smooth F&B paints are and that their colors do not vary. One thing I do not like about F&B is they keep their LRV values a secret. There is no way to get these values without asking them.

    Hi, I am thinking about F&B James White or French Gray in my north facing dining room. Would these work and what effect would they have? Thanks.

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  Месяц назад +1

      Morning, James White has a warm undertone so it's going to make the space feel warm and cosier throughout, French Gray will bring a slightly moodier, darker feel with it - just bear in mind that with darker shades, they will make dark corners look even darker. Best to get a tester of each and paint an A4 sheet of paper so you can see how it feels in both the lighter and darker corners of the room. Hope that helps!

    Hi would pigeon in a north face room work paired with wimborne white?

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  3 месяца назад

      Yes, both pair beautifully - however, pigeon used on all walls in a North facing space will affect how dark the room feels if you are just using Wimborne white on the ceiling. If half wall panelling or doing an accent wall though then that would work well. Although, there's nothing wrong with leaning into the darkness though in a North facing room though and using it all over.

    Hi Nicole, I have a North/West facing living room, it will be a TV evening room eventually but don’t want the white/light schemes, the dark ones mentioned, or anything pink/red/earthy, I was looking for mid blues/greens but not sure they will work ! Help, any suggestions thanks Paula

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  3 месяца назад

      Hi Paula, I've got you! One of my favourite subdued pinks is Sulking Room Pink, it's got a lovely moodiness to it but isn't overtly pink. If you want something a bit earthier, look at red earth - a colour drenched look on walls and ceiling looks amazing for a cosy room. These tend to be warmer without being bright, but mid blues and greens can look really good too, here are some I would look at; Studio Green, Treron, Calke Green and Blues - Stiffkey Blue, Inchyra Blue and De Nimes. I love either the warmer earthy shades or the darker schemes, definitely grab a few testers of your fave and sit with them in your space for a day or so to see how you feel with them throughout the evening light, hope that helps! Hi, I have a 1940's house which is northwest facing. I'm struggling to find a colour to paint it. I have tried numerous Farrow and Ball tester pots but the pale colours look drab and insipid. We have white windows. Can you suggest anything please?

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  2 месяца назад +1

      I'd always lean into the prominent facing when choosing colours which will be North for you - if those types of colours aren't working well, I'd perhaps go for something bolder, how do you feel about greens or pinks? Look at Setting Plaster, Templeton Pink, Vert de Terre, Cooking apple green, if something more neutral Oxford Stone is great, we have this in a true North room and has a gorgeous warmth to it - is this also for a specific room as that might help me with some other suggestions, thanks!

      Thank you Nicole. I should have been more specific. It's the exterior masonry paint that I'm struggling with. The house is closer to west than north. The only bolder colour I have tried is Lichen, but it didn't look nice. So far Cromarty and mizzle are the favourites. Tried peinoir which looks nice at the back of the house but just grey at the front. the house is detached and has ugly lumpy pebble dash type render. Most of the pale shades look just white in the afternoon sun.

I have an original 1950s booth light teal and white and want to keep fun teal/coral colours and have grey kitchen cupboards. So my question is using a white that is warm to go right through to bring together whole area and then I'm going to use accessories to bring in darker teal, and earthy colours to combine the area but still separate living from kitchen/diner what do you suggest 😊 thanks for sharing your videos❤

    • @NicoleSage
      @NicoleSage  4 месяца назад

      Thanks for watching! Your kitchen colours sound gorgeous and fun :) Okay, so three warm whites I would recommend that will tie together your colour scheme and flow are Dimity - red based neutral but a perfect base for an earthy approach, or White Tie and New White - they have a subtle yellow undertone but pair virtually with any colours. I'd get a tester of each, paint an A4 sheet of paper with them so you can move them around the spaces to see how they feel with the light in the different spaces. I'd also look at School House White - it's a stony white but particularly works well with greens and blues so would be a lovely complement to your teal. Hope that helps! Nicole x
