    I put the Xvive on the end of an xlr cable. Then I can locate the transmitter near the performer.

      Bingo. I do the same with my U3. The sound guy has a cord for me, and I just put the receiver in. That makes the range really short.

    I've been using the U4 for about 3 years now, i run an XLR cable to where i am, and just plug the transmitter there, been working fine this whole time.

    we've been using the U4 for about 3 years now with no issues that couldn't quickly be resolved. The biggest change we made was changing the channel on our router to broadcast from a higher channel than most don't broadcast from, like channel 11.

    Our singer has been using the U4 for years and it’s been flawless. I used the Line6 G30 for years. Played a couple hundred gigs in a variety of venues, from small bars to stadium. Never had a problem, but batteries barely lasted an entire gig. Switched to a cheap Lekato UHF set (originally as a backup) about three years ago. I love them; bought a second set and guitarist bought three. Never let us down.

    I've been using the u4 for almost 3 years and I could not be happier with it. I'm not gonna lie, the switch problem happened to me, but only once (fortunately it was in a rehearsal, so no biggy). Even though it's mono that's ok for me. While live usage I tend to play for about 4 hours or so (not counting with the soundcheck) and I never ran out of juice (I always bring a wired backup, just in case, thankfully I never had to use it). It's built like a tank, so overall I'm pretty pleased with it, totally recommend it😊

    One hack on the U2 Ive discovered is, it will transmit and receive while charging. If the Receiver is plugged into a pedal board, etc, you can run a USB to keep it charged while playing. At the same time, if you attach a small battery pack to your guitar strap, you can you run a USB to the transmitter, and extend the battery life 4-5+ times longer.

    I had the same thing happen at a gig. One of the units on my u4 flipped on in my bag and it was dead. The case definitely solves that. I hope to see xvive make a 5.8 ghz in ear system!

  • @jamesreyes4654
    @jamesreyes4654 9 месяцев назад +31

    The u4 probably didn’t work the first time because the cable you connected to the receiver was trs and the u4 is unbalanced so no stereo and when they send it out they include the converter tip from xlr male to ts 1/4

    • @RichardChappell1
      @RichardChappell1 4 месяца назад +8

      WHen I saw Gabe plugging the TRS cable into a TS socket (1/2 of a stereo splitter), the credibility went away.

  • @terrywarnold
    @terrywarnold 22 часа назад

    Quick question. Can the U4 be used for singers? I’m assuming you would plug the transmitter into the monitor feed channel on your snake/mixer then the singer would clip the receiver to the shirt or whatever.

  • @BikerEgg1

    The only issue I had with the U4 was a "warbling" that occurred when I was also using my cellphone as a mobile hotspot.

  • @WRM-istomoveon
    @WRM-istomoveon 8 месяцев назад +3

    The volume on the u4 was probably too quiet because you used an xlr to jack plug converter effectively chopping one half of your balanced xlr signal resulting in 6 dbu loss (half) on your input.

    I’ve had the U4 ears about two years and have never had an issue. The U2 wireless guitar 1/4 inch I wouldn’t recommend in my opinion. I’ve had so many cut outs so I’m going for the shure GLX system.

    Great video, but 2,5ghz is too crowded of a frequency range due to broadband taking the bandwidth for wifi. 5.8ghz and uhf setups are way more stable. I have had the same problem with the u4 power switch. I'm glad to see they have a case that addresses it. Thank you for sharing your experiences.

    Something to note about the Xvive U2! You should get the strap holder for any active instruments. I had an acoustic with an active pickup, and it created an unpleasant, high pitch noise that was very noticeable any time I wasn’t playing. It is noted in the manual, that this needs to be done. Everyone may not have the same experience, but why take the risk? All things considered it does a great job. I’ve had mine for 7 years now, and it’s a great backup system.

    I highly recommend the Nux 5.8ghz wireless guitar transmitter. Same kind of deal but waaaay more reliable, especially if you’re running in-ears at 2.4ghz, cause those can interfere with each other. The Nux case also charges the transmitter and receiver like AirPods which is really handy.

    My bandmate is struggling with interference between his IEM and his wireless system for his violin. Right now the only solution we found is to connect his violin to a wire. He hates that. Any suggestions?

  • @finn2179

    I used got the U4 2 years ago and played them twice in a live setting and it was a terrible experience. My clean guitar sounds and even our singer clipped permanently, I had more noise than actual sound, I had cutouts every few seconds etc. It was so bad, that I took them out completely during our first song both times and played the rest of the show without any monitoring because it was still better than playing with the U4. I tried everything... different channels, different positions for the transmitter, different headphones, with and without the XLR to 1/4 inch adapter, nothing worked. And yes, the battery was fully charged both times. Since the U4 didn't work at all for me and I couldn't afford a better system, I didn't use IEM for the past 2 years and we're building a new IEM Rig with my band now, using the LD Systems U508. I hope they will do a better job.

    I've used the U4 quite a lot, and really like the freedom it gives me. The only thing that disappoints me is that it's mono. I would love a stereo unit. I use Boss WL20 for guitar, but I always carry a cheap alternative equivalent as a plan-B, just in case the Boss doesn't work, and then obviously a plan-C cable. The Boss fails to work maybe 5% of the time for reasons I can't explain, but probably because either someone else in the band is also using one, the Wi-Fi at the venue is interfering with it, or someone flushed a toilet in the next suburb. But these low-cost systems work enough of the time for me to tolerate the times they don't, and I always have some sort of back-up.

    Im a Jbass player. The issue I've had with foldable stands was the body shape always made the bass lean to the left. Did you not have the problem? I know you're a Jazz player as well, so how does it sit in the stand.

  • @kevinvann2216

    @Travisdykes Did you have any issues with the U2 when it came to using an active bass? I see the website description says it not recommended for active basses.

    • @cased19
      @cased19 8 месяцев назад +2

      I've used it with my active basses for about 3 years now with no issues, however... you shouldn't connect the transmitter directly into a guitar with active pickups, instead use the U2 transmitter holder and extension cable to move the transmitter away from the active pickups. I just connect it to the back of my strap. The transmitter too close to the active pickups cause random squelches.

    I use the Sennheiser XSW - it’s twice the price but actually works reliably EVERYWHERE! £320, if you need to move about and can’t use a lead/cable then I think it’s hard to beat

    See this is one of the things I love about Travis. The good, bad and ugly and not hiding behind excuses. I have a cheap Swiff Audio system but not had to use it in anger yet. I find it has a heavily compressed sound, almost muffled with a very slight delay that just irritates me. Does the Xvibe give a clear unaltered signal?

  • @groovinonfunk
    @groovinonfunk 9 месяцев назад

    Do you still use the Phenyx Pro? I got one but was a little bummed that it only goes down to 60hz in frequency range. Do you think that cuts out important bass frequencies? Definitely can't get any sort of sub feeling, but otherwise it's ok. The U4 almost sounds better to my ears. I have that as well. But I wanted something with no latency and that didn't operate on wifi frequencies. Budget aside, what's your top recommendation for an IEM system? I just invested in custom molded in-ears that are real nice so probably need a better quality IEM system to take advantage of the new ears I'm getting.

    • @stevesheroan4131
      @stevesheroan4131 7 месяцев назад

      A little late with this reply, but I would say that if you’re getting custom molds then you would be doing yourself a huge disservice (and wasting money) on a budget IEM system. Just bite the bullet and go for a SHURE PSM300 or Sennheiser G4 system. The X4 sounds great, and has a full frequency range, but it is only mono, and you WILL get interference/dropouts at some point, most likely at the least opportune time. With IEM, maybe more so than most musical purchases, it really is better to “buy once, cry once”.

    • @groovinonfunk
      @groovinonfunk 7 месяцев назад +1

      @@stevesheroan4131 Yup! That's what I did. Rockin' the Sennheiser G4 now with Alclair CVMK in-ears and it's changed my life! I love it!

    U2 and U4 are working on 2.4GHz and so you only have 6 channels to share between your devices, 1 for U2 and second for U4. Now imagine your local venue have their WiFi network eating who knows how many channels and maybe you have some vocalists or another musician using same 2,4GHz so the same 6 channels to choose from. More of, maybe the venue have some neighbors using some WiFi network in their home located next to the venue and so on... I don't like those systems because they can be used only in remote situations where there's only your system turned on...Oh, I forgot to say that each time you have an engineer controlling his deskboard with an iPad he obvious needs an WiFI router or at least an wireless access point and guess what, he will use a dam good antenna with a lot of gain in it, just to cover other wifi with who his may interfere with, including your U2 and U4, like is my case as a FOH engineer... So is a no no for me ;)
