    I've argued with friends that this was the single best ending for any Marvel property. Sometimes the best endings aren't the happy ones, and the twist that Loki finally achieved his "glorious purpose", but only through giving up everything he thought he wanted... And making the audience *care* about it? So good.
    Thank you for doing this one.

    An absolutely brilliant series that is one of THE best showcases of character development ever. One thing I'd like to add is that I loved Classic Loki and Kid Loki too. They too are different. The pain and regret Kid Loki shows when he said he killed his Thor showed the Main Loki what could have been for him. And the Classic Loki's sacrifice shouting "GLORIOUS PURPOSE" while creating an illusion of none other than Asgard in its full glory shows that even if thousands of years had passed, he still missed his home. And I'm crying just writing about it.

    • @kvoltti
      @kvoltti 5 дней назад +5

      I'd say 2011 Loki was being truthful there. Look at it this way. He was raised in a culture that clearly holds Joutun in low regard only to discover he's Joutun. Suddenly all the issues he had with his father make sense. No matter how much he does he'll never be really loved. He's the monster that Asgardians tell their children stories about. What a joke they've made of him. How they must have laughed when he tried to do right by them.

    I do love the fact that Loki is the only one who can fix this problem. Him being a Loki, someone who always loses, makes him the only person who can possibly fix an impossible problem. Any other superhero would fail, because they don't have the dedication to repeat the same loss for thousands of years. The Avengers lost once in End Game and pretty much gave up. Hell, Thor lost and he nearly ate himself to death. A superhero would try and find a different solution, but the sacred timeline is a problem that has no alternate solution. The instant the Loom is destroyed, all of the timelines instantly start to die. Only a supervillain that always loses, would be crazy enough to dedicate thousands of years repeating the same doomed situation to find a solution.

    When the first episode of Loki came out, and Loki said he only hurt people because he had to, and that it was a cruel trick conjured by the weak to inspire fear, I saw little me explaining why she spent her childhood angry and lashing out at her siblings and at last I understood why: not only was I trying to control the situation but I lashed out before they could do it to me, and I was trying to protect myself. And I no longer saw myself as the villain problem child.

    • @heatherholzhaus7013

      We all want to be in control of our own situations. It's s9 easy to lash out, or, "burn it to the ground". It helps us feel righteous and validated.
      I'm so glad you were able to see the other side and be able to start the healing process.
      The problem with sibling wars is that all of the siblings want some semblance of control. And that may step on the other siblings' control. It's a hard balance. Sending you internet hugs.

    13:03 I have a theory as to why Sylvie was pruned. She was a hero at heart from the beginning. That's why Kang picked her, bc he knew she would be determined enough to get the main Loki variant to him. If you look at the tiny bit we see of young Sylvie, she's playing with Valkyrie toys at the start and we also hear that Thor wanted to be a Valkyrie growing up bc of their status as honored warriors. The next thing is when she's being brought through the tva line, she doesn't fight until she sees someone else being roughed up by the tva then she starts to struggle and call for someone to help Him. Kang took the best Loki and corrupted her in order to get her to lead another Loki to him. Kang didn't stop knowing what was going to happen until after Loki and Sylvie reached the end of time.

    • @emilymarriott5927
      @emilymarriott5927 10 дней назад +44

      I think her nexus event was being told she was adopted from an early age. She never got trapped into a cycle of competing with Thor for the throne, but never seemingly measuring up, only to find out after an entire lifetime of trying that it was never in the cards due to being adopted. Instead, she was free from that cycle and got to figure herself out and go in a different direction. She's a girl, she wants to be a valkyrie, etc. That made her a very, very different person from the sacred timeline Loki, or most Lokis in general.
      It's also an indictment on Odin and Freya that an iteration of Loki like Sylvie is so incredibly rare, imo.

    • @richardchisenhall387
      @richardchisenhall387 10 дней назад +15

      @emilymarriott5927 I feel like our theories are just the cause and effect of the same instance, she's heroic bc she wasn't lied to, so she didn't have that anger at first, she didn't feel like she didn't belong so she wasn't a trickster.
      And on the last part I very much agree, the fact that such seemingly small lie made such a massive change in them really shows how that grain of negativity grew over the 1500~ years Loki was growing up. And the tva snatching Sylvie up created that negativity in her almost artificially as in it never would've happened if she had been left alone

      The reason _any_ of them got pruned was (purportedly) the deviations from the set route ‘somehow’ all result in [any number] of Kang variants spawning into existence. Not necessarily tied _directly_ to the individual that gets targeted-then-pruned, but tangentially, the actions/intents of individuals being scaled out _wildly_ for odds of reaching the particular inevitability.

    • @richardchisenhall387
      @richardchisenhall387 9 дней назад +5

      @alecLogan in all honestly, the reason Kang picked her is bc he picked her and wrote her just how he wanted, just like prime variant Loki. He cultivated them to make them fight over what to do at the end of time and about him. I think his point was to take a Loki who was good from the start and corrupt her, and take a Loki who was rotten at the start and redeem him, let them fight it out and let that settle the cosmic balance. Which I think is to say Loki may be one to experience extremes, and that drew Kang to them. Loki wanted total subjugation (initially) and Sylvie wanted unfettered freedom. It's like Kang made a perfect yin Yang out of Loki and told them to fight for dominance. But they only achieve the end goal by letting their ideas coincide.

    Going into the Loki series, I already loved Tom Hiddleston's Loki, especially with the place that Ragnarok brought him to, but more broadly... seeing his whole arc. The Loki series... especially season 2 took him from being a character that I really loved to... genuinely being my favorite character in the MCU. I... still don't know if I would call him a "hero" exactly, but he is my favorite character, and I genuinely don't see him losing that status. He has such a powerful arc through all of this, and I love the story behind his final line, where they were getting ready to film that moment, and he took a jog around the back lot when it hit him. He came back and told the director, and... man, it gets me every time.

      Really good post. I would say that Loki fully earned the hero title by the very end of S2 since he sacrificed his freedom so the others have time to find the Kang variants. If it wasn't for that, the Loom explodes and the multiverse is good as dead. No more MCU. With the upcoming new direction of Dr. Doom, that means that we'll be seeing God Loki again in the not too distant future. Which means, it will give us a chance to fully see him use his powers to save more people (of whatever is left of the universe), while helping the Avengers fight against Doom.

    All Loki ever wanted was to not be alone. To feel accepted and be apart of a community of people that truly love him. He bolstered about being a God and a King for most of his life. And in the end, even though he wanted to reject the responsibility, he at last took the ultimate throne of power by no means for himself, but for the sake of everyone else.
    He finally earned his immortality and the adulation of others, only for him to rule in silence and total seclusion away from all other beings in the universe. Most people never knowing what he's done/is dojng to keep then alive and well.
    It's tragic. It's sad. It's even heartbreaking. But also a beautiful tale of self-acceptance, vulnerability, selflessness, and finding peace in taking a path that leads to being the best verison of one's self.

    Two times I jumped with joy in the last 30 minutes - first: I saw this "Loki Psychology of a Hero" video, second: You're doing a SYLVIE video!! ❤️‍🔥 god I was sooo happy when I heard that. I love that woman and I love the relationship between them. I also love Mobius and the three of them together as the most badass "Time-travelling buddies" You covered many great scenes here, the thing I missed was the phenomenal debate and dilemma between Loki and Sylvie in S1E6 in the citadel (but maybe you'll cover this in your Sylvie episode? Fingers crossed). This whole show had so many great therapy scenes and I just love, love, love how Loki went from "Freedom is a lie" to "I give the whole multiverse its freedom back" and how Sylvie and Mobius helped him to truly find himself. The ending was bittersweet but at the same time one of the most beautiful things I ever saw in a movie or series. Part of me agrees with you, that it would be a shame to ruin that ending by bringing him back rash and casually..but part of me thinks that I want him to reunite with Thor (and Sylvie and Mobius). But we'll see 🙏 and in the meantime - what a great series and what a great tribute to it! Thank you 💚

    YES!! The video I have been waiting for!!!
    To be honest I was very sour and a bit disappointed with Loki’s first psychology video, because while I understood it… I didn’t feel like it did the character justice. Loki fans have been passionately defending and upholding the character (quite literally, if the stories that he was only supposed to appear in Thor 1 and Avengers are to be believed) for many many years. Sure, I think the fandom definitely took some creative liberties but for us to have the Loki show (which I’m so glad you agree is a freaking masterpiece!) delve deeper into his character was so awesome!
    I’m just really chuffed that you guys made this video and addressed both the complex journey that Loki has taken and the incredible quality and nuance of this show :) The wait was so worth it

    • @lilianaaurana5007
      @lilianaaurana5007 2 дня назад

      Yes exactly! Kenneth Branagh's Loki and Taika Waititi's Loki are two very different characters, and for the first video (and the show, and therefore this video) to make sense, you have to believe Ragnarok's joke Loki is the real one, which.
      He's not why we like the character. We like the complex character of the first movie.
      Literally I've been trying to figure out how to describe my feelings on this video, spent an hour typing and deleting a comment, and I think you described it perfectly. A little sour on the first video.
      (Like. Which is it? Narcissism, or insecurity? If your insecurity drives you to wear a mask of being better than everyone, is that narcissism?)

    I love how the show recontextualize the prior Loki appearances,. Most people only remember the 2012 Avengers version which was in an extremely broken-insecure state (+ apparently he was mind-controlled by the stone) and assumed Loki was always like that. Which he is not. "Meh Loki used to be a badass psychopath" Yet the movie portrayal could also be interpreted as just a ridiculously cringe kid throwing a tantrum. I think it's also the reason why s2 was more appreciated, cuz it was more in line with the "bipolar" playful-dangerous side of Loki while bringing very iconic scenes with his abilities

    I know he says “I’m a narcissist” but I’ve seen some very spot on breakdowns about the possibility of bpd. And as someone with BPD… I can see it (which is probably why I’m drawn to characters like this.)
    The deep seated fear of being alone, being abandoned. Doing everything possible to not be abandoned, and that causing it to happen anyway. The black and white thinking, the anger blowouts. These don’t go away through the show but they are tempered, focused.
    And the thing is, BPD has such a bad reputation among therapists even, but if we are aware of why we do what we do, it can be as much a vehicle for altruism and connection and heroism as it can be villainy, of being the bad guy.
    I was never interested in Marvel before this show. Still not interested in much of it. But the existential quandaries, the personal growth, tackling Big Questions through characters who feel small and vulnerable… so well done. As you can see from my icon it made an impression 😂

    he is such an important character to me and has stood, with deadpool, as one of my greatest comfort characters simply bc they are just so tortured (frequently by their own mind) but still do the best they can do do whats right in the end. (even after making terrible mistakes.) i too have made terrible mistakes and have tried as hard as i can to move past them into being a better person in the end.
