These have to be Bjorns best lyrics. Benny and Sigs arrangement is pure genius. Anni-Firidas haunting vocals only make this one of the best ABBA tunes ever!.
There is no doubt to me that ABBA was sent from somewher in the afterlife to grace this world with their angelic music. No doubt about that, at all. Does anyone disagree.
Agnetha is just one beautiful voice. Name one person ever who could pull this on off!

I love everything about this song sung by the most beautiful ice maiden who ever lived. At the time this song was released, ABBA were very unpopular (considered naff by contemporary standards). In fact this song proves that as they were preparing to go their separate ways, they were releasing their most haunting and brilliant work (a candle always glows more brightly just before it is about to go out)

I'm now 54, & yet I still cry every time that I listen to this most hauntingly beautiful song - a fitting tribute to the peerless Abba, & the pure vocal talent that is Agnetha Faltskog - absolutely sublime.

Artists etc today can learn a lot from this performance, just look at the facial expressions, the way she conducts herself etc and her voice - you can feel and her the hurt and despair, yet Agnetha never faulters and although appears vulnerable is so strong at the same time. No one else on earth could do a perfermance like that it makes you realise what a great group they were.

ABBA is the favorite group of my youth. Beautiful, very melodical, talented and one of the most popular groups in the world. Unfortunately American people do not know well European music, but ABBA is an exception.

sometimes you feel that the best abba song is the one you're hearing in the moment...but only the winner takes it all can compete with this one. as it comes to the performing life, nothing tops this incredibly emotional performance by agnetha.

Look at here, so cute and innocent-looking in her red burgundy medieval-inspired dress.
This combination of advanced pop harmonies, melancolic melodies, masterful production/sound engineering, and sweet, innocent singing will never be seen again.

True art is like the cruel grandmother who beats her grand-daughter--every tear of which becomes a pearl! How heart-wrenching to realize that this beautiful love song was the swan song for ABBA! Even in the beauty of the poignant feelings and in the carefully crafted sniplets in the video--there is the piercing realization that breakup (and divorce?) were occurring within ABBA even as this song was created! When day dies it produces a glorious sunset just as boredom of life precedes intense joy!

@ABBADiego...music was born and lives on for eternity because ABBA perfected it. they may have been silent but thier melodies are every where in the air. listen to the wind, the birds, the crashing waves, the gentle rush of a stream, the sway of trees in the spring and the sound of rain on the roop tops in the cold winter nights. you are listening to ABBA because ABBA is in the air. thanks for sharing your passion.

The only intelligent song by ABBA and the truest song of 1980s THATCHERITE ENGLAND. The first time I had a complete nervous breakdown and understood the meaning of alienation and true loneliness. And it is fantastic. And It is still so true of the life of today's office worker in England.

80`s?I love the sad, elegant and understated lyrics, and the classical undertones
of the backing vocals which seem to imply that the song is a requiem for the group.

Yes, written by Benny Andersson and Bjorn Ulvaeus, the two guys from ABBA. ABBA recorded and sang only their own songs throughout their whole career with 1 exception and that was for charity in 1975. This was the last ever recorded song by ABBA in 1982 and was included on the ABBA album in 1982 "ABBA-The Singles-The First Ten Years". however this song is available on the various compilations brought out by Universal Music over the years since 1992 when they took on the ABBA catalogue in full.

Oh Agnetha baby, supa-yummy mummy or what? Only 33 there! I always thought she looked her best in the final ABBA year of 1982. I love the way she smiles at the guy on the platform! The most womanly, sexy smile every captured on film! This song is a timeless classic from '82 which was a year I loved! Both ABBA and '82 slipped away together and I landed on boring old '83! It can be mixed nicely into Leonard Cohen's 'Everybody Knows' which I always thought sounded similar in rhythm.

A sublime TV performance right at the end of the band's career. This classic song, the last one they ever recorded, has kept people debating for years about what exactly DID happen when he came. Bjorn and Agnetha have both indicated that it was not a change for the better. And the music and video hint at this. For me, the most compelling clue is in the book she chooses to read at bedtime- 'the latest one by Marilyn French'. At the time this song was written, the latest book by Marilyn French was 'The Bleeding Heart', which was about two people who meet on a train and are instantly attracted to eachother. A relationship develops but turns out to be a very abusive one. Food for thought, eh?
