The way the two versions tell the story and display emotions reflect the times they were made in. They’re equally impactful and emotional, but in different ways. The newer version of this scene is more compelling to me (they’ve done an amazing job remaking this, seriously), but I love how the old one makes my heart feel like it’s sinking, it has such a eerie and quiet despair to it, even if Hyakkimaru isn’t showing his emotion vocally, the imagery says it all.
I don't get how some people in the comments are comparing the two shows without talking into account the 50 year gap between the two animations. Like it came out before the first episode of Dragon Ball Z came out, so give it some slack
I like how the remake shows the emotion and let's it play out rather than telling it like the original, and how Hyakkimaru can never cry in this scene in the remake.
So on top of being fucked up, I forgot about the orphans having missing limbs. Honestly, every single one of these men deserved it! EVEN if they thought Mio was a spy, they were clearly out for blood-these kids were orphans, disabled, and found hope in Mio as sister figure-only to die because, well, the world is cruel. I'm still pissed, and sad, very very sad!=(
I think that the 2019 version is more in line with the personality that hyakkimaru should have, since he was basically a wooden doll since he was a child, the 1969 version seems more human his reactions
Both versions actually rock! Like wow. They're still powerful depending on their time. The new one is more graphic, and the older one seems more dramatic. Love both of them. The new adaptation of Dororo is very, and I'm happy to see that it's keeping the spirit of the old.
The 2019 version seems a lot better. Apart from the obvious expected improvement in animation, Hyiakimmaru's character fits him better. He reacts more like someone who's felt true loss for the first time and acted on instinct rather than some cliche shinobi warrior.
Oh God, the 2019 version always makes me cry. It's done so well. Hyakimaru isn't even used to expressing himself at all yet. But the subtlety in the realization of what happened turning in a bout of acute insanity from the pain and anguish he feels. It's so sad
He identifies as a "he", to which I'm mean he actively says "I'm a man, there's nothing wrong with me" in the manga and gets mad when people call him a "she"
@@mariama.f8314 Its very fucking ironic.. no ignorant of you to mention Tezuka because he literally grow up with disney animation and inspired from it. You weebs disgust me
J0šęph Weeb means someone who loves another’s culture, typically Japanese, over their own and places it on a pedestal. Liking and appreciating anime or any aspect of another culture doesn’t make your a weeb. Bashing your own culture for another and blindly praising it without measuring pros and cons makes you a weeb.
I think the newer one is better to be because it does the job of “show, don’t tell”. We already know based on hyakki’s interactions with Mio and the others how much he adores them, and his screaming instead of just telling us what he’s doing feels a lot more impactful.
the 2019 is better. we can feel how desperate hyakkimaru on losing his first love. plus, dororo consoling hyakkimaru after that breaks our heart. "she didn't lose...". oh god. i shed a tear tbh.
The 2019 one is more deep and has more feeling to it cause he couldnt talk in it and His rage felt more real, also his first word was mio so it makes the scene even better
The 2019 added more storyline and did a great job of making us sympatize the main characters Mio included, while the 1969's version felt like despair and depicted grief instead of rage. The 1969 scene was a bit more scary than the 2019 scene (probably because of the music and it's dark themes) It was a tad more darker than 2019 tbh, but I think both years did a really good job.
I think the thing is that 1969 didn't have animation techniques and easy-of-use as today does. Technological and the overall evolution of anime as an art medium allowed Dororo to get the few bits of edge it was lacking in its original incarnations. I literally got into the franchise today with the remake, but I have mad respect for Tezuka's work, knowing how influential he is as a mangaka. Besides overall new insights in how the story is pulled off - such as making Hyakkimaru completely unaware to the world outside him save for a special vision. It allows for adding in tidbits of character development through metaphors conveyed by his physical improvement, which I find simply genius. Totally hyped to see what the show has in its sleeve for me.
I like the 2019 Dororo scene more. Reasoning? Because the fact that Hyakimaru *could no talk* . All he could do was let out his rage by screaming *because* he had never talked before. It put a lot more emotion into the scene than the 1969 Dororo did. Not to mention the sakuga that went down during the "fight" if you could even call it that since it was really Hyakimaru going sicko mode on those dudes.
Legit, Dororo reminded me how good anime can be as a form of storytelling. A lot of the recent stuff has been overpowered isekai harem anime with very little depth.
Dororo is a pioneer in the youkai genre and Japanese anime in general, and it just makes me really happy to see interest in this wonderful series revived in the wake of the incredibly well made 2019 version :3 the first adaptation is very much a swashbuckling samurai adventure with demons whereas the remake is a grim representation of humanity, emotions and the actual horrors of the Sengoku era. For those who don't know, Tezuka had to change a lot of things about Dororo in the 60s because people thought it was too dark for its intended audience (young-preteen boys), but the 2019 adaptation clearly was allowed a bit more freedom on that front, because anime isn't just made for kids anymore, and thus was able to bring back some of those darker scenes and show them on screen which just make it amazing and way more appealing to a modern audience. I'm actually writing an essay about this series currently for my Japanese Literature and Arts course and how it's changed over 50 years~
Right? This show influenced so much. This show gave birth to so much anime, like Demon Slayer, Yuyu Hakusho, Berserk, Fullmetal Alchemist, Bleach, Yugioh, Inuyasha... Even Kenshin from Rurouni Kenshin borrowed heavily from Hyakkimaru's design and swordplay.
I was looking for the original japanese VA of Hyakkimaru and i've found out that Nachi Nozawa did his voice, he also did the voice for Alexsander from the Hellsing TV anime version.
Explanation as to why Hyakki can talk in the old one, basically, Jukai taught him how to speak with his stomach. It’s like a weird combination of how it moves, and growls, I read the og manga years a go so I don’t remember the specifics, but the demons didn’t take his stomach so yeah. Plus, in the old one, Mio was from his backstory, we never actually got to meet her personally in the original version.
Wow Mappa brought me a lot of emotions with their choice of adaptation. That's amazing they managed to convey so much yet stay true to the original content. Mappa doing god's work ;w;
This scene is the perfect example of why I like the 2019 version better, it portrays hyakkimaru more animalistic than human because he was robbed of most experience that would make him human, his brain also works more like an animal as well “kill red get body back” as he doesn’t know more because he didn’t have the means to understand.
I like that even though Hyakkimaru doesn't say a word and simply roars with rage as if he'd become a beast made a much bigger impact on me than all the questioning and flashbacks he did in the 1969 version and when he finally did speak only to say Mio's name, it broke my heart. Really. :'(
Both great moments. For me while I think the emotion is a bit stronger in the original (between the change in style and some story changes to alter its impact) there is something truly beautiful in Hyakkimaru’s rage during the original. Particularly the music and the cuts, especially the part where Mio’s image is sliced up.
2:43 in the 2019 version you can see hyakkimaru's face reflected in the blade. I had to slow the video down to .25 playback speed and even then pause and unpause quickly in order to catch it. It's seriously a blink a you'll miss it detail but damn it's awesome
the song for the 1969 version is haunting.... i think if the 2019 version had given a few more episodes for mio and hyakkimaru to fall in love and draw out their relationship more, the death scene could've had that kind of music and dramatic imagery that the 1969 had. but i think the 2019 didn't have music because they wanted to highlight hyakkimaru's screams... ahhh so sad
Hyakkimaru’s reaction in the new adaptation is so much more realistic, and instead of just being overwhelmed with sadness, he sees mio slowly die and gets overwhelmed by rage
Good god they're not even remotely the same guy... I like the new hyaku better as a character, and as a concept. But they're so damn different. Like I see people comparing them and honestly you just can't.
In the new scene, when Hyakkimaru breaks- the way it's animated at 2:16 reminds me of that one scene from Howl's Moving Castle when (I think, i'm not super clear on the details) the head witch lady tries to turn Howl into a monster and he loses some control- he starts screaming like that too. Anyways, broke meh heart.

Both versions actually rock! Like wow. They're still powerful depending on their time. The new one is more graphic, and the older one seems more dramatic. Love both of them. The new adaptation of Dororo is very, and I'm happy to see that it's keeping the spirit of the old.
I didn’t want these feels today
The 2019 version seems a lot better. Apart from the obvious expected improvement in animation, Hyiakimmaru's character fits him better. He reacts more like someone who's felt true loss for the first time and acted on instinct rather than some cliche shinobi warrior.
Oh God, the 2019 version always makes me cry. It's done so well. Hyakimaru isn't even used to expressing himself at all yet. But the subtlety in the realization of what happened turning in a bout of acute insanity from the pain and anguish he feels. It's so sad
*HUGS MIO WITH DARN SWORDS IN HAND*
Those are his hands
I mean, there's not much other way of holding her
No one gonna talk about how slick the animation was, and how well done the quick burst of anger was done in the 2019 version
I like that they decided to put Dororo there with Hyakkimaru, making him the one to help him come back to his senses.
Dororo is a she
He identifies as a "he", to which I'm mean he actively says "I'm a man, there's nothing wrong with me" in the manga and gets mad when people call him a "she"
Yeee...but biologically she is a she. So that's that
@@Fyzzy4life well I prefer to use the pronouns people chose for themselves. So that's that.

50 yrs ago, Japan was already making animations cooler than almost anything western.
Ahem ahem Disney
@@Themeir
Disney copied a lot from Dororo's author, they followed his traces like dogs so lets not mention them
@@mariama.f8314 Its very fucking ironic.. no ignorant of you to mention Tezuka because he literally grow up with disney animation and inspired from it. You weebs disgust me
@@Themeir calls other people weebs -has a fucking Giorno picture
J0šęph Weeb means someone who loves another’s culture, typically Japanese, over their own and places it on a pedestal. Liking and appreciating anime or any aspect of another culture doesn’t make your a weeb. Bashing your own culture for another and blindly praising it without measuring pros and cons makes you a weeb.
The old version still looks amazing with lots of tone levels and details despite no color.
2019: sad crying, angry voice
1969: sad haunting music
1969 0:14 when she says her parents aren’t home
The 2019 added more storyline and did a great job of making us sympatize the main characters Mio included, while the 1969's version felt like despair and depicted grief instead of rage. The 1969 scene was a bit more scary than the 2019 scene (probably because of the music and it's dark themes) It was a tad more darker than 2019 tbh, but I think both years did a really good job.
Extremely well-done and creative video. I especially loved the part where you relied on directional sound for either scenes, please keep up!
Totally hyped to see what the show has in its sleeve for me.
i have never felt so sad about a character i have known for so little time RIP MIO
MAPPA really did a masterpiece with Dororo, but kudos to the first adaptation, I imagine how tricky was adapt violence like this on the 60s.
Thank you for making this video
Even tho old anime is good Daam man those Japanese are really fantastic
*So. Sad... Mi...o.* 😟😩🤧
😭😭
@@devashrijoshi9079 *Yeah. That too...* 🙀
I wanted to see more from her, not just 2 episodes. :((
I like the 2019 Dororo scene more.
A lot of the recent stuff has been overpowered isekai harem anime with very little depth.
by日本人
The old anime is pretty violent. Which surprised me
The original 1969 version hit the feeling of sadness and sorrow spot on. While the new 2019 version hit the feeling of anger more so.
Holy crap I realized if you wear your head phones while watching one side will play the 2019 and the other will play the 1969 version
ikr so cool
This was so moving, Thank you.
I was looking for the original japanese VA of Hyakkimaru and i've found out that Nachi Nozawa did his voice, he also did the voice for Alexsander from the Hellsing TV anime version.
Am I the only one who is crying in the 1969 part where he reminisces her TwT like even the ist is freaking perfect
Adorei ;-;

😳 Wow
Wow Mappa brought me a lot of emotions with their choice of adaptation. That's amazing they managed to convey so much yet stay true to the original content.
Mappa doing god's work ;w;
Both are good, but I see Dororo have more scene in the new one
1969 scene is a true classic but 2019 hits the heart.
This scene is the perfect example of why I like the 2019 version better, it portrays hyakkimaru more animalistic than human because he was robbed of most experience that would make him human, his brain also works more like an animal as well “kill red get body back” as he doesn’t know more because he didn’t have the means to understand.
The remake is awesome! Well done
"Dororo Screech fits with everything " . im just waiting for a video like that
This is the best remake I've ever watched for an anime...
I like that even though Hyakkimaru doesn't say a word and simply roars with rage as if he'd become a beast made a much bigger impact on me than all the questioning and flashbacks he did in the 1969 version and when he finally did speak only to say Mio's name, it broke my heart. Really. :'(
Hyakkimaru rage in the new ver is the most satisfying and saddest thing in this year
The old version's scenes were all about the atmosphere. This one is a good example
Both great moments. For me while I think the emotion is a bit stronger in the original (between the change in style and some story changes to alter its impact) there is something truly beautiful in Hyakkimaru’s rage during the original. Particularly the music and the cuts, especially the part where Mio’s image is sliced up.
That scene where that crippled kid was running away scared and got slashed haunts me...
Low key i have this theory that he gets like a wish after he kills all the demons and wishes her and the children back
@shadowshinobi06 wow nvm then 😂
@shadowshinobi06 oh ok, so Dororo is a girl. Nothing that surprising, as I had already noticed her chest was a little weird, but this confirms it.
@shadowshinobi06 Btw, I have a question, was one of the parts the demon room, his penis?, That would be hella funny
@@Android25K bruh. Dang it now I am imagining the demon and the penis thing. 😂😂😂
"Hey dont look at me like that, I was incharge of the lust section"
"Oooohhhhhh"
Holy Shh!! I love the scream synchronized in 2:15
The new version of this scene is far more thematic, and also flows far better story-wise.
2:43 in the 2019 version you can see hyakkimaru's face reflected in the blade. I had to slow the video down to .25 playback speed and even then pause and unpause quickly in order to catch it. It's seriously a blink a you'll miss it detail but damn it's awesome
the song for the 1969 version is haunting.... i think if the 2019 version had given a few more episodes for mio and hyakkimaru to fall in love and draw out their relationship more, the death scene could've had that kind of music and dramatic imagery that the 1969 had. but i think the 2019 didn't have music because they wanted to highlight hyakkimaru's screams... ahhh so sad
Me encantan estas comparaciones nuevo suscriptor
Hyakkimaru’s reaction in the new adaptation is so much more realistic, and instead of just being overwhelmed with sadness, he sees mio slowly die and gets overwhelmed by rage
Equally heartbreaking thank you very much.
Good god they're not even remotely the same guy...
I like the new hyaku better as a character, and as a concept.
But they're so damn different. Like I see people comparing them and honestly you just can't.
I think the older one has the i lost my friend and its really sad feeling, and the newer one is more like absolute unadultured rage.
