Oh wow, this is just SO very special!! Two brilliant young musicians together, one interviewing the other and how incredible is our favorite pianist, Alexander Malofeev. He is so humble and so kind and completely dedicated to his art. The world of classical music will be in very good hands in these two young musicians and others, of course. Thank you, thank you for this interview, both to the interviewer and the interviewee!! It's wonderful seeing Sasha talk about his thoughts behind the music!! What a blessing! This is my 93rd birthday and I delighted to be hearing two (or parts of two) interviews of Alexander Malofeev and hearing him play. I am taking piano/music lessons by a Juliard graduate and these performances and interviews are tremendously inspiring besides the glorious day in Honolulu.
Aleksandr Malofeev has a great Russian heart and soul. When he plays the piano you can feel this in the beauty of the music. I pray that he has a long creative happy life!
What incredible insight into this performance by Andrea. It is so wonderful to see young people apply themselves so fully to classical music, while we, in the sixties grew up rebelling against anything old school. You are a breath of fresh air! The pendulum swings… I went from classical to rock to jazz and back to classical music over a span of 50 years, and these young people are showing me the way. What a great time to be alive!

In many cases, he is able to bring out things in the music I hadn't (but should have) heard before. It is this quality, I feel, more than anything else that already makes him one of the very finest of our living pianists.

Very interesting interview. Lots of youthful enthusiasm and knowledge on both sides - which is what one likes to see! Sasha mentioned Rachmaninov and Tchaikovsky and of course one mustn't forget that for all the jazz influences in his music Gershwin was the son of Russian immigrants, so there's a kind of genetic connection to a Russian musical and pianistic tradition.
@@andreacicalese It's a matter of great regret that Sasha has been all over the world but has never played in the UK. I was in correspondence with his mother a couple of years ago and she said that he would love to come to London but has not so far been invited. I've written to the director of the BBC Proms because I think Sasha would be a wow with the audience at the annual Promenade Concerts, but I have had no response.🙁
@@andreacicalese How very extraordinary! By coincidence I've just been sent details of the second half of the International Concert Series at the Anvil, Basingstoke, near me. Lo and behold Sasha is due to play Rachmaninov 2 with the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra under Kirill Karabits! Excellent news!
Hello! I appreciate your comment! This was my first interview! I am planning on talking to other well known soloists! One little correction: it is called "POLYPHONIX".
First time have heard Alexander named also 'Sacha'. Is there some Russian tradition here of naming? ~ And lovely engagement between two young musicians. Thank you from UK
Hello from Germany! Thank you for you words! "Sasha", in Russian, is another way of calling people Alexander or Alexandra. See it as kind of an abbriviation. When I met Alexander for the first time, he told me to call him "Sasha" and so I did🙌
Have you considered interviewing the Brothers Bassonov or Rutgar Garecht? For the Bassonov brothers, I would like to see you collaborate, that would be sublime! I suspect they might enjoy it very much as well.
Dear Andrea: Thank you for this wonderful interview with Alexander Maloveev who at his young age has already become a keyboard giant. I question your comment about Oscar Peterson however, since it is my understanding he practiced 10 hrs a day when he was a young man in Toronto Canada. Would love to see you interview Ivan Bessonov and have you heard Yoav Levanon play Kapustins Concert Etude #1? ruclips.net/video/nj1G81ZJBuQ/видео.html
Dear Carl, thank you for your compliments! Perhaps the interview with legend Oscar Peterson that I saw was from when he was older. Of course at some point he needed to practice a lot to learn how to play like this. Or perhaps I just said something that is not correct. Thank you for this link!
Thanks Andrea to share these precious moments! Sascha is playing in Amsterdam on 28th Sept. 2024, and I am looking forward to his concert. By the way, why do use Russians nicknames, like Alexander is now called Sascha, Horowitz was called Volodja, and Cherkassky was called Shura. I am just curious to know why. Pieter from Amsterdam / Netherlands.
Got it... Alexander Malofeev is commonly referred to as “Sasha” due to the Slavic diminutive tradition. In Russian and other Slavic cultures, a diminutive form is often used to convey affection, familiarity, or endearment. For Alexander and Alexandra, the Slavic diminutive form is “Sasha”.
This is a very interesting interview - it's great to hear young people talking so intelligently about classical music in a world which is so dominated nowadays by pop, and your channel is fascinating - I have now subscribed to it. I only discovered Malofeev quite recently, and am hugely impressed by his technical ability and great musicality. I hope you don't mind, but I would just like to use this comment to recommend a wonderful concerto by the British composer Arthur Bliss which really should be better known - it was written for and premiered with great success in 1939 for the great pianist Solomon, and I think Alexander could play it magnificently! It is in a sort of 'modern romantic' style which is not so far from Rachmaninov and other composers that he plays regularly. Perhaps you could bring it to his attention? I would so love to hear/see him play it. You can hear it and see the score here: ruclips.net/video/eWp0EYO29wg/видео.html
Are there any videos of these two playing together? I would much prefer to listen to their music than their talking. When they get to 60 years old that is the time to talk about music which is always boring.

Then he will play and after his concerts I am going to visit Zsolt Bognàr and perhaps give an interview for his show in Pittsbourgh and Cleveland and in NYC I will meet other musician-friends!
Of course I am always happy to meet supporters! So I will be looking forward to seeing you there! Thanks for everything, Andrea
I AM LUPITA I AM 76 YEARS AND ALL MY LIFE I LOVE CLASIC MUSIC BECAUSE MY FATHER PLAYED HIS PIANO. I AM A FAN OF Alexander Malafeev he is wonderfull and the Best playing the piano and all my life i knew many. I like to Still near him until the years God me alive. Thank you.
Thanks for watching!
Thank you for your words, thank you for watching and thank you for subscribing, Tim!
@@Andronicus surely that would be incredible and it is good to be active! Thank you again for watching!
Excellent news!
great video!
Thank you!!!!
Thank you for watching!
GREAT
Wow❤
I am a recent American fan of Alexander Malofeev. Why do people often refer to Alexander as "Sasha"?
It is anabbriviation from Alexander in the Russian language🙌
He is a good pianist 👍👍👍
Good pianist ??? 🤣🤣🤣you mean the best Pianist at the moment.
First time I could really understand Malofeev so it was an excellent interview. What or which performers does Polyphonic generally interview?
Hello! I appreciate your comment! This was my first interview! I am planning on talking to other well known soloists! One little correction: it is called "POLYPHONIX".
@@andreacicalese nice response. My phone spell corrects wrongly sorry.
For first interview.. terrific. Bye bye.
I would like more the interwiew with subtitles behind. It was interesting though.
I will try! If you need them in Russian, they exsist on the russian fanpage of Malofeev!
@@andreacicalese I need them in english or in spanish.Since now many thanks.
It was maestro Pletnev who rekindled my interest in classical music!
When I met Alexander for the first time, he told me to call him "Sasha" and so I did🙌
Love the unabashed enthusiasm, dude. I think if you can keep at it, you will be able to carve out a decent audience for yourself. Keep it up :)
Sasha and Andrea, please perform Medtner 3rd violin sonata :-)
Alexander Malofeev is the new Van Cliburn - Horowitz ----- truly the greatest pianist we have today.
A wonderful musician. I had the pleasure to share the stage with him. You can check that out as latest video on my channel :)
Agree.
How did the audience receive this performance of the concerto?
It was a concert in Moscow, it is on RUclips (link in description) and I reviewed it now!
Have you considered interviewing the Brothers Bassonov or Rutgar Garecht?
For the Bassonov brothers, I would like to see you collaborate, that would be sublime! I suspect they might enjoy it very much as well.
I will consider it, thanks for watching!
UN PEDIDO ESPECIAL, CUANDO EDITES LOS VIDEOS, PONELE EL TRADUCTOR, PUES EN MI CASO NO SE INGLES, (SE UNICAMENTE EL ESPAÑOL) Y ME PIERDO TODO.GRACIAS
OK. Am I missing something?
Who is Sasha?
Sem legenda em português 😔
Gershwin is the best 👍👍👍
He really is!
Great interview .l loved the interplay between the two..
Hi! Thanks for the many compliments for me and for the dear Sasha! I will see what I can do about the score!
Andrea
@@andreacicalese have a listen and see if you think it's good? I think it's great! :-) I would be interested in your opinion.
Are there any videos of these two playing together? I would much prefer to listen to their music than their talking. When they get to 60 years old that is the time to talk about music which is always boring.
Haha! We performed in Buffalo, NY our chamber music debut. It was livestreamed. Follow my Instagram @andrea_violinist for some clips:)
If someone told me you were Evgeny Kissin’s son, I’d believe them. You speak and look like him lol
Well that would be awesome🤣
That's Gershwin, not Gerschwin.
I must have mistyped! Thank you!
Well spotted
Gershwin...Russian Jewish 😊
Well done Andrea! Great interview and insights. Such a pleasure to listen and watch you. Looking forward your next one! Cheers
Thank you so much! I am looking forward myself! Cheers!
