- This video shows my process of making a custom, hand-made humidor for my older brother’s 45th birthday present. The sides are made from curly black walnut and the lid is made from curly spalted ambrosia maple. The inside is completely lined with Spanish cedar. It's fitted with Brusso’s side rail hinges, external brass splines, an analog hydrometer and accents made from whitetail deer antler for the feet and the lid pull. The lid is CNC carved and inlaid with Art-N'-Glow epoxy resin tinted with Black Diamond black pearl pigment powder. The sides of the humidor are 5/8" thick and 6 1/2" tall curly black walnut. The lid is about 13/16" thick. The Spanish cedar lining is all 3/16" thick. The splines are cut from 1/8" thick brass bar stock and the feet are cut from the base of whitetail deer antlers.
Some of the tools/materials mentioned in the video can be found here. These are not affiliate links, so I recieve no money from them. I just shared where I got them from.

Nobody has ever put 1 tenth the amount of thought/work into a gift for me as you did for your brother. I would kill for a humidor like that!
You talking about your brother brought tears to my eyes. I'm a manly guy and I don't show much emotion but I wish my brother and I had a close relationship like yours. Maybe one day things will get better. I enjoyed the video!
As a professional woodworker is rare to see high end craftsmanship in you tube. Thank you!
The way you talk about your brother reminds me of me and my 10 year younger brother😊 We're best friends, and I would do anything for him😊🙏
Very nice work!👌
Nice Brother! 🤓🤘
wow I really enjoyed this. I like the fact that you are sort of like me; drilling without having stuff clamped, sanding and your mat is not holding....but really meticulous, you are a long way beyond where I am now but this is one of the few videos where I thought, maybe I could do work like that. I was amazed at how precise your work was. I like the fact that you honored your brother. I do not watch TV and I am glad I don't, because anything I would watch would be 34 minutes I wouldn't have had to watch this video.
I wish more people would show waxing plane soles. I wax all machine/ tool surfaces in my shop and it makes all the difference.
Great vid. I like all the precautions you take to protect the project. I need to practice that patience.
Absolutely stunning piece, Great job. Those Brusso hinges are the absolute best, I built 2 Humidors many years ago and I used their Quadrant Hinges, they are still looking great and solid like the day I installed them.
Just awesome!!! Great all around story, wood selection, craftsmanship, video quality.
Beautiful.
Man you need to make more videos and need to put where you work out of. I'd love to order something from you.
Wow nice humidor. I was just looking up how to make one and got to say this one is really nice.
This was a terrific video. Lots of tips and tricks. Thank you so very much.
Great video. I really enjoyed watching this.
Awesome humidor and build brother! Hope your brother loved it as much as you did building it for him!
Beautiful humidor nicely done especially with the personal accents you added makes it more personal and special for your brother!
Video was an absolute delight to watch and narration was perfect honest so nice
first video ive ever seen that didn't have one thumbs down...you earned it! GREAT WORK!!!
Nice work. I really enjoyed watching this. Your attention to detail is great.
Outstanding craftsmanship, outstanding design and a beautiful finished humidor. Kudos
Unbelievable work. Gorgeous
Very nice work. Thanks.
fantastic video. So informative. Thank you for sharing
I’m impressed very nice.
Beautiful gift.
That is a really nice humidor. It nice to see a well crafted piece like this. Do you sell humidors by chance?
Beautiful!!
Great job! Good luck to the master!
Great build vid! I'm in the process of building an urn for my Sister's life partner who recently passed. You provide a lot of great tips in the build and assembly of the box. I really like your technique for the Brusso hinges. I'll definitely use this. Thanks for a great video!
Well done
WOW!!!
Awesome!
Wish I had that shooting plane.... Nice work! Most of all I appreciate pointing out what you did wrong, and how you fixed it (shellac/epoxy). There's great value in that for us all--thank you!
awesome Good work :)
Awesome
Great box!! So much detail! I bought some curly walnut and some spalted maple to make a humidor here soon. It's going to be an expensive first attempt. lol
Yancy Smith, good luck! I hope you were able to pick up a few tips in my video.
eine sehr schöne Humidor Box, das einzige was mir daran nicht gefällt sind die Füße der Box aber das ist Geschmackssache 👍...... a very nice Humidor Box, the only thing I don't like about it are the feet of the box but that's a matter of taste 👍 ......
Very nice work
Beautiful. Love the antler details. One question: why didn’t you install the pull from the inside of the box?
nice build! what channel did you say you got the shooting board from? thanks
Look up Jay Bates on RUclips or google. Then search his channel for his shooting board.
@@AZsTinyWoodshop Thanks!!
High-grom-it-er (grom is the part you enunciate). Kind of a shame you went with a mechanical one, they're notoriously bad. Hope that one was well calibrated and accurate.
Either way, cool humidor and well crafted. Nicely done.
What size bit did you use for the hole? I purchased the same hydrometer and struggled to find the correct size. Thanks
Hi Matt. I don’t recall to be honest. If you have the same hydrometer then you’ll notice the clear rubber band around the circumference of the hydrometer behind the face bezel. That ring/band exists to allow for a snug compression fit with a little room for play. I do remember the hole I drilled being a perfect fit with that band on, but with it removed it was way too loose. That band also has raised ridges on it. I remember those ridges touching the edges of the hole but the valleys between them did not, leaving the room for the epoxy between them. That may not help much. Sorry. Next time I go to my brothers I will bring my calipers and measure the hole to let you know exactly. Message me on Facebook or Instagram so I don’t forget.
A-Z's Tiny Woodshop will do! Thanks so much for the response 👍
Do you sand between coats of Aurmor-All?
Yes, very lightly with barely any pressure, typically with 320 grit sanding mesh, just to knock down and dust spots that may be present.
Can you list all your tools!
what finishing product do you give?
General Finishes Arm-R-All.
Audio is kinda quiet
I did it myself thanks to Woodglut.
Do you sell these?
Nice build, but the sound was really bad
Please take my order...pls pls...I will be your brother...and pay for it too.
just say it scares you bro lol
VIDEO WAS OK, but audio was terrible.
A great gift. Let’s hope it doesn’t encourage your brother to smoke more? As lung cancer is the most terrible disease.
