  • My grandfather's clock
Was too large for the shelf
So it stood ninety years on the floor
    It was taller by half
    Than the old man himself
Though it weighed not a pennyweight more
It was bought on the morn
Of the day that he was born
And was always his treasure and pride
    But it stopped short
    Never to go again
    When the old man died
    Ninety years without slumbering
    Tick tock tick tock
    His life seconds numbering
    Tick tock tick tock
    It stopped short
    Never to go again
    When the old man died
    In watching its pendulum
    Swing to and fro
Many hours had he spent while a boy
    And in childhood and manhood
    The clock seemed to know
And to share both his grief and his joy
    For it struck twenty-four
When he entered at the door
With a blooming and beautiful bride
    But it stopped short
    Never to go again
    When the old man died
    Ooh ooh grandfather's clock
    Tick tock tick tock
    Ooh ooh grandfather's clock
    Tick tock tick tock
    For it struck twenty-four
When he entered at the door
With a blooming and beautiful bride
    But it stopped short
    Never to go again
    When the old man died
    It rang an alarm
In the dead of the night
An alarm that for years had been dumb
And we knew that his spirit
    Was pluming for flight
That his hour of departure had come
Still the clock kept the time
With a soft and muffled chime
As we silently stood by his side
    But it stopped short
    Never to go again
    When the old man died
    Ninety years without slumbering
    Tick tock tick tock
    His life seconds numbering
    Tick tock tick tock
    It stopped short
    Never to go again
    When the old man died
    It stopped short
    Never to go again
    When the old man died

When I was a small boy I had a toy grandfather clock made by Fisher Price. My son now plays with the same clock. Wen u wound it up it used to play this tune. This song brings bak so many memories and it's the first time I've heard the full version. This is a beautiful song, as well as being a sad n emotional one. Brings a tear to my eye when I hear it. Well done, this song is perfect.

@dan892k7 @ LOL! Of course! But here in the Tokyo metro area the last vowel tends to get knocked off. Like: I got my phot taken at Disneyland in Orland. Des instead of desu, etc.
Has anyone seen an English version by Ken of this song anywhere? Of course this one sounds great, but I'd like to find one with video rather than than the still phot ; ) to show my students.

@MiranUT Ahhh, I'm not sure why, but every Japanese person I meet in the UK is either from Kansai, Chiba, or Kumamoto. Most my Japanese friends are from Osaka :-p. As a result, I speak Japanese with an Osaka accent, haha! What do you teach? Is it English? I am going to Japan in September to teach English, I can't wait :-).
