This is exactly what I've been wanting to see! Thank you!
Thanks for the showcase , can't wait to recieve mine !
To be fair, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet is sometimes a slideshow on actual Switch hardware.
Not if you Mod and Overclock it.
@@Pridetoonsthank you for that fun fact
He says exactly that
At launch its not slideshow its shitshow😂
It runs perfect on my base model . Change the driver
What we can say is that there is more than enough power to run all of the switch games perfectly. It’s just that the emulator is not there yet but it will be eventually.
Yea, Yuzu on ARM literally just dropped, so it will only get better from here.
I can run all these games better than this on my ancient i7-4790k on the X86 build and this chip is a good bit faster than that so it's definitely just a case of optimisation.
Do you think Pokemon Violet will ever run smoothly (ish) on this? Or is that wishful thinking?
@@xTiLkxitll run fullspeed. It already ran well on skyline, just crashed after a bit.
@@xTiLkx POKEMON Violet will never run smooth on anything, not even the SWITCH
@@jesusbarrera6916I'm sure they got it running decently on pc
Excellent showcase, thanks Joey
Thanks for the effort, really what we wanted to see!
Thank you stoked for mine 🔥
Thank you for this awesome showcase 👏😃
Thanks for this. Some really useful info. Odin 2 is now on my shortlist of essential gadgets! A worthy upgrade from my Anbernic RG351M
This is underexaggeration at its finest. 😁
@clausjahnel5379 If you mean the upgrade comment, obviously it's a massive upgrade! I've been waiting until the tech has reached a big enough step forward to justify the cost of upgrading, and it feels like we've got there now.
@@Hedonistik_RitualI have Retroid Pocket 3 Plus which is amazing the fact it can even emulate PS2, GCN, Wii, DreamCast, Saturn well enough.
70% of the games runs fine 30% are borderline unplayable like Driv3r, Final Fantasy, COD MW3, etc etc. So Odin 2 will be a huge improvement for me!
@nepaliprayasgurung2594 nice one, yeah it feels like the right time. Also I quite like the look of these bigger devices, although I'll be Interested to see how close they get to PlayStation and Xbox controller quality. The RG351M for me works well with older era games but the Ps1 games felt very clunky.
@@Hedonistik_Ritual I was on the fence trying to make my mind what to buy tomorrow odin 2 or steam deck.
After a long research and many many RUclips reviews on both consoles. I choose Odin 2 (base model) oover steam deck.
Because when I buy a handheld console I want parts for replacing screen, controller and very important is battery itself. And AYN has made Odin 2 replacement friendly and easy and it uses similar capacity battery to vast majority of phones makes it easier to swap over if you have a defective odin 2 or in the future.
And odin 2 has hall sensor effect analog stick so drifting problems will be nonexisting and it has 1080p screen over 720p and the d-pad is same as ps vita excellent quality buttons aswell.
With Steam Deck the battery is much harder to find once that battery runs out can no longer take charge and discharge your stuck with a useless junk.
I keep my consoles for long enough like modded psp and ps vita oled modded and now odin 2 will be my new favourite console. *and I also have replacement battery for ps vita, psp, switch n my 2ds?*
I don't need pro model of odin 2 as I already have switch oled so the base 8gb ram model will be more then enough to play ps2, gcn, wii, DreamCast, at full speed and that's plenty enough I don't think we can ever expect ps3 emulator for future for odin 2.
So I'm not worried about future proofing so once again I don't need 12gb pro odin 2 or 16gb ram odin 2 max model!
An excellent showcase of what this thing can do. It also reminded me of just how much of a weirdo I am relative to the emulation community at large. My gaming choices are not popular ones, lol. I kept waiting for the sports ("MLB The Show" especially) and racing games to show up and they never did. I did find a bunch of new to me Switch stuff from your video that looks interesting, so, even if I don't end up buying an Odin 2 it'll have been worth my time watching.
I’d love to see if this bad boy can run MLB the Show. Don’t worry brother, you’re not the only weirdo relative to this community. I’ve been wondering how well I can play MVP 07 NCAA Baseball PS2 🤣🤣 might be the only person in the world wanting to buy the device for that reason
So pumped for this!
Damn, you really cast a wide net, thank you so much for this video!
That's a ton of games can't wait to get mine!
Same I just ordered mine
woah, amazing work here. Great selection of games, I don't know a lot of people talking about AI, this game is a masterpiece.
I definitely have fomo from buying an Odin Pro last month and not waiting for the Odin 2 but since I rarely leave my house, streaming any title via moonlight gives such a great experience to play some high end titles while laying in bed so I can't justify selling my odin for an odin 2 just yet.
Yeah I would wait. These things release like every month. There is like a dozen different retro handhelds or more even. My dream is that there will be something that can run PS3 thats the size of a vita and fits in my pocket. Although we may be quite a ways away from that
I like your honest feedback. Much better compared to bigger channels. I will subscribe.
thank you been looking video like this
Joey putting in work again!
Let's go more Ayn Odin 2 content!
Thank you so much for making this video i cant wait to get my odin2
I'd like to see how Pokemon Mystery Dungeon, Wario Ware, and the newest Mario Wonder emulates
MVP over here

(average RAM usage is 5,1 GB from the games that didnt crash)
thanks for the numbers. SO when you say ram usage, is this only the emulator or total system ram? I have a 6gb device so Im trying to figure out if it's worth it to play the games below 6gb. Also, if this is total system memory usage, then I see no reason why (at lesat for now) 8gb of ram shouldn't be enough to play all the games as none of them surpass 8. Most of them do not even surpass 6.
@@Ustaleone6 gb? Og Odin pro? Odin 2 only comes in 8,12, and 16 right?
@@FostersHomeFG could be an Odin Lite 6gb or just his phone
@@Ustaleone hey man, nice to hear! Yes, I only collected the data from the video, I assume its total system memory used. My phone will only arrive in a few days, only then I can test it myself. But yes, most games are in average at the 5 GB, so all should be fine with 8GB I guess (I read somewhere that there might be an issue with only 8GB of RAM, something like a bug, but I havent investigated any further, so I dont know if its true or not).
I’m no expert, but with the Odin 2 making it into consumer hands soon I’d say Yuzu on android is going to see massive developments over the next year. Pretty sure this will be THE handheld then.
but by then, surely there'd be even better devices
@TheHuggableEmpire How much better do you need? This thing should be able to handle all of switch games with no problem as long as the emulation issues get sorted out over time. I'm guessing the Odin 3 will have an OLED display and maybe better speakers but it doesn't need anything better in terms of specs. PS3 and up emulation is years out.
@TheHuggableEmpire don't need a better device. It's plenty powerful. In fact, it's way more powerful than the switch itself. The emulator is the bottleneck. With some improvements, it could run all games in docked mode.
@@MasDouc not necessarily a matter of pure performance, but also efficiency. I'm personally waiting for Odin 2 performance in more of a retroid pocket 4 size.
Unfortunately Yuzu instead got shutdown by Nintendo.
Just seeing this makes me hopeful for the future
Yuzu on android is really young and it will only get better from here.
NCE might be a game changer too
Any idea on when that update could drop? They mentioned it a few months ago in a progress report but I don't know if they've said anything more
Never now lol
Awesome showcase! Just so you know though, Nintendo usually issues copyright claims on my videos if I only display a still image from Tears of the Kingdom, so I hope you can keep this up ^^
There's a few games on this list that have native Android games or ports:
Dead Cells (natively available, even the RP3+ can run it well so the Odin 2 will absolutely breeze through it with great battery life)
Dragon Quest Builders (sadly, no controller support)
Into the Breach (free for Netflix subscribers)
Moonlighter (free for Netflix subscribers)
Stardew Valley (natively available, easy to run)
Ports:
Hollow Knight (not hard to run)
Sonic Mania (not hard to run)
great video!
What makes odin a supreme emulation device is the excellent thermal management.
Well, i dont regret getting the 8gb model.
If i do play switch, it will be a bonus for a few indie games
😊👍
Thanks for the video, did you manage to run Astral chain ?
Thanks for mentioning ram. It's worrying me for 8gb user. I really really hope it won't bite me in the foot for choosing this model.
It helps so much that you point this out for people like us.
AFAIK only the tears of the kingdom requires more than 8gb of RAM and that's maybe also a question of optimisation, so you should be fine with 8 gigs.
@@TheRootko if ever need, although as stated 8gb should be enough.... i think there was an OTA update where you can add 4gb VRam..
The Max version has 16gb
I got Kirby and the Forgotten Land to work after getting the white screen. I used a different nsp rom and I used the latest GPU driver that is compatible with snapdragon 8 gen 2 from the github page. It runs, but it is very choppy in the beginning when all of the shaders are loading.
Do you think Octopath Traveler suffered an issue due to the RAM configuration, or was the emulator just struggling? Would it run better on Ryujinx? I just placed my order for the Odin 2 Max. I just can't find any reviews other than the Pro version.
? Ryujix does not exist on Android
Yuzu for android is still very new. Personally I don't think 16GB is needed but it can't hurt. 12GB should be the minimum & enough for many games. I personlly use s23 Ultra with 12GB of Ram.
My recommendation? Either play it on Switch, Yuzu on PC, or on Steam. I own the physical Switch game & on Steam.
Dang the temperatures is hovering within 79 to 81c and that's damn hot 😱
Not bad for this, you don't feel it.
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds it's good that it's not hot so the cooling system is working as intended.
It still makes me wonder if this is viable for long-term though (can we play it on the daily for hours at such temperature even if there's cooling without causing the device to die out?)
Great video,
All those games tested on docked mode or hand-held mode ?(handheld mode might give better performance cuz it lock thes games on 30 fps)
I'm assuming Handheld Mode.
Have you tried skyline emulator at all? Also could you do the same for other console such as PS2 and GameCube please? :)
already have a steam deck so it can play even more switch games, but it's really cool seeing what this little thing can do. If I wasn't so into handheld pcs, I would definitely cop this thing for some retro games
Same here, I really think ayn odin 2 is an amazing device, it's living rent free in my head for the past month. but it's hard to convince myself buying it when I already have steamdeck and other handheld gadgets that I never use because of steamdeck.
Is the temperature during the Fire Emblem Engage accurate? 78°c for an ARM chip is quite high.
I've come to the conclusion that the Steamdeck would be a better device for emulating Switch games.
Hey thanks for the review I was wondering if you could framelock to 30-40 fps?
Hi, hope some could help me. I tried running animal crossing on both yuzu and skyline edge but I am no able to play the game. On yuzu, I only see black and blue screen. On skyline edge 69, the game will lag halfway through the intro
While I didn't plan to play many Switch games this does worry me a little one the ones I do want to play. I also have trouble understanding things so I can't tell if this is a "I should by the max not the pro ver" issue, a "Just play this on an actual Switch or.the Steamdeck cause it's not working on here" issue or just "The emulator needs more work" issue.
Either way this helped me understand a little some of the games I wanted to play.(Animal Crossing, Kirby games, Dragon Quest Builder 2) Also I'm pretty sure the Switch version of The World Ends with You is a half assed tablet port cause they did make a tablet port with new stuff that wasn't in the original DS game.(Mostly Coco from what I know)
Quick question: since you did tried the xenoblade chronicles DE did you tried the 2nd and the 3rd game as well? I know it might be too much but eh? Nice vid as usual btw! Keep it up!!
I did not, sorry.
You mentioned you used mods with some of these switch games on yuzu, could you please teach us how because almost all tutorials ive seen for mods with yuzu are for the pc software and not for the yuzu app for android handhelds
Hello, thank your for your video. Did you used a 8 Gb, 12 Gb or 16 Gb device for your tests ?
He says it 12GB at the beginning
It seems like all the preview units are the 12gb pro models. I am really curious about the 8gb one that I ordered. I suspect many titles will work fairly well, but seeing is believing.
You should have picked up 12gb model that would work best. Or maybe even 16gb model for futureproofing
I think the Odin 2 (Base) is the best value from a price:performance value. Gambling on 12GB of RAM when Zelda: BoTW (Switch) uses 6GB of RAM seems a bit of a tough sell for an additional $60-70; ToTK may very well run later on!
The SD8Gen2 is an absolute monster. Extra RAM is an, "If you can afford it," rather than a requirement in my opinion. I may upgrade to the pro if my unit is delayed into January & 2024, but if it doesn't then I'll be more busy gaming, lol.
@@lunarwist5655yeah can’t beat those specs for 299, with the pro it’s nearly approaching the price of a steam deck 😂
Thank you, Joseph. Really appreciate Switch emulation videos on Odin2. Could you perhaps find a game that works great on Skyline Emulator and compare memory usage of the same game in the same level/area on Yuzu? It would be interesting to see if one emulator uses noticeably less RAM than the other.
Rest assured that Skyline uses much less RAM.
Besides, Yuzu has a long way to go to have a good performance from giving Android specific optimizations to projects like NCE or UMA.
@@cristobalbarcenas6147 Yeah, I know. But I wanted to see how does it look right now just to see how Yuzu can improve RAM usage and what to expect in the future. We need some hard data :)
Great video, wish you could have included Skyrim as well, but you did have a pretty good selection of games. I was on the fence about ordering one of these but i finally did and your content helped me make the decision. It would be nice to aee better switch emulation though. I do like alot of wii/gc games on dolphin I can't play on my RP3+, and i would like a device better at syeam link and xbox streaming. Would be interested to see if a linux build comes out for this as well. That would open up wiiU emulation which migh work better than switch on this device
I played Skyrim on the Odin 2 and outside of some lighting issues indoor it ran great, I didn't try skyline so maybe those light issues aren't there.
Can you test if the Switch port of Dark Souls 1 or Skyrim work? I've played and bought these two games on several consoles over the years, and would love to be able to play them on the Odin 2 switch emulation!
A,axing work. Thank you.
So everything besides newer AAA games like tears of the kingdom and scarlet and violet utilize under 8 gigs of ram... Kinda glad with my 8gb model purchase now
Hey Joey, do you think NCE and or other OTA updates made performance better for some of the struggling games? More specifically Fire Emblem? curious if you tried it recently.
Hey, I'm honestly not sure, Switch emulation isn't typically my thing. I do know the AYN Discord emulation channel has a lot of information on that, so many people testing games that you can check!
@@JoeysRetroHandhelds oh no issues. I'll just try it on my own when the time comes. Only asked because I thought maybe you play it regularly. Thanks anyways!
So this is before the big nce update? I wonder how it is now
Just curious if anything has changed in 8 months now with more mature versions of Yuzu.
Did you test the Bluetooth wireless controller rumble feedback
How many hours of battery do you get during switch emulation?
Apologies if you've answered this before but youtube comments dont have search functionality.
I've heard 3.5 hrs
How does Final Fantasy run? I'm really curious to know how Final Fantasy on the switch emulator runs.
How long can you play performance demanding games like BOTW? Emulating a game is more power consuming than playing a properly ported game but 8000mah is also a lot
The pro is on sale for just $199 right now, but it's pretty much priced the same as Switch Lite in my country. Factor in shipping and customs it's the same as Animal Crossing bundle.
As much as I love emulation, I just want a plug and play for now. Too bad Yuzu got shut down. It was so promising!
SO glad i opted out for the Rog Ally over this. Was so close to getting the Odin. Rog Ally plays all these with ease, even Mario Tennis Aces. Odin 2 is still an amazing device.
ROG Allly plays these games with ease because it can work with an emulator that is pretty mature at this point, while this device here has to use an app that was released some months ago.
What yuzu keys/ firmware and driver you recommend atm?
Which version do you recommend? The base or Pro and would you consider the max overkill. I will be playing Switch, Wii and PS2 mostly.
I recommend the Pro. Max is overkill.
When I mod out the blur for Link's awakening, the graphical bugs/artifacts remain even though the blur is gone.
I think ill just get the base model with 8gb of ram, Thank you for showing the memory usage, that was my only question. Seeing as most games are using 5 - 6 GB of ram
Will there be a difference in switch performance between the 12gb ram model and 16gb ram model?
Nope. Only TotK comes close to 8GB. So once optimisation is fixed, all 3 machines should run Switch fine.
Have you tested Crash Bandicoot 4? Great vid by the way
Snapdragon 8Gen2 tops out at something ridiculous like 3.5tflops (usually capped for saving battery) which is twice as powerful as the steam deck, it's just limited to Android apps.
RDR can definitely run on this chip using other emulators.
Hola, no se ve bien en mi Odín 2 el The Leyend of Zelda: Links Awakening, que configuración en Yuzu tengo que poner ?? Help me please !
ruclips.net/video/fh5259wEaVA/видео.html
I just want to play the Atelier Ryza games....with how many games shown here play well i'm assuming Ryza would play fine too
It’s the Emulator and it’s current state of development, it’s not the device itself. It’s more than powerful enough to play these games.
might i ask where you got the roms for these games
Is it in docked mode (1080p) or handheld (720p) ?
Why play dead cells through switch emulation when it's native on Android?
If there was an emulator for PS3 on Android, the games would work well
I get pretty consistent crashing in Persona 5 during long (1 hour) sessions. I just save often but it's still frustrating. I use an Odin 2 pro, the latest Turnip driver and I'm on the Yuzu premium, deluxe, super cutting-edge version of the app.
I would of loved to see the bioshock or arkham collection tested
But can it play Crysis? Im jking, thank you for the video!! Have a great weekend
Is the vertical while line on the right (to bring up the menu) always visible in-game?
You can turn off the slide out menu, and remove that white line. But then you lose out the popout panel.
You can turn it off and on in seconds via the Android slide menu.
it’s insane how games like kingdom battle immediately crash and smo seems (somewhat) playable, I’m pretty sure it’s a problem with the emulator
Yes it is. Switch emulation is early still.
We need Yuzu Android Showcase after each yuzu major update to be able to see Performance updates. 😊
thanks a lot joey.... I assume the games crashing is more a YUZU issue, right?
Yep
We need an Odin 2 Plus with a 7 inch screen
What about Cruis'n Blast/Fast RMX/Hot Wheels Unleashed?
24:44 it's kinda fun to see how you don't know how loops work in sonic games. Nothing personal ofc! Just a fun fact xd
I don't play or like Sonic games :) lol
All of these are handheld mode right? Seems like docked mode is out of the question based on the performance here.
Yep handheld.
Will the max version play zelda totk better or is it a cpu thing?
It's an emulator thing.
I cant get animal crossing to run over 15fps :( yuzu build 276, tryed the driver you have, and turnip 14 and qualcom 0.744.8
Hi. You mentioned locking the GPU/CPU at max, does this feature work the same as diablo mode on Redmagic phones where it's a hard lock? Or does it still throttle? Also, how is heat generation when doing this on switch emulators? Because my Redmagic phones reach up to 46C with a peltier cooler attached if I lock the clocks.
Also, do you find the Odin 2 outperforms a Redmagic 8 with cooler attached for switch emulation? I realize it's the same chip but it's a question of heat management and GPU clock management
Could you try Winulator on the Odin 2?
Oh yes, please!
how does super Mario wonder run?
What lag? I use to play pc games on dial up internet on a potato pc. That had real lag.
Before I buy, would anyone that knows about this console or has it could tell me if this can gain access to all pokemon emulators? Like fire red or sapphire and ruby?? Any info would be great!
Yes.
Woooh switch games.
theres any chance of tears of the kingdon will run better in the future with uptades of yuzu?
That's depends on the driver, different games needs different drivers and even different emulators. I tested more than 20 drivers in Outlast and CoJ: Gunslinger with Yuzu and Skyline (Edge too), unfortunately EGG NS doesn't support custom drives.
Actually i was about to test every single driver from GitHub but after 20 and something i said hell nah and just quit, cause every test took like 3-5 minutes.
Can you show me how you did the Links awakening mod? or point me to where I can learn. I can't figure it out or find any guides

You wouldn’t happen to know how I can get Mario Kart working on Odin 2. Can’t get past the mii screen there’s no mii’s so can’t proceed 😕
Sounds like you didn't install the firmware or prod keys or both, cant skip them.
The emulator must have already gotten better because I can play Mario Tennis ( Docked Mode) at full speed. ( On Odin 2 Max).
Is this Odin 2 base model?
How does yoshis woolly world run?
