Jim Carrey has had one of the most fascinating, heartbreaking and inspiring careers of anyone in the media.
He went from being many people's (at least in the western world) cultural icon in the 90's, to being a serious actor, to having his partner die. Then he went on a rampage of art, which he's fucking amazing at. To see his comeback, to see his interviews and to see how he's come back out on top is something I never thought I'd see.
...and to see him with Russell Howard? Wow, what a moment for Russell that must've been.
I reckon recently a lot of actors who used to just be comedy film actors (for the most part) have been stepping it up and showing a lot more depth in their art. Jim is a different case considering between dozens of low-brow comedies he'd always do something spectacular like Eternal Sunshine, or Truman, etc, but you see it now with guys like Eddie Murphy (who also kind of disappeared for a bit), and even Adam Sandler (Uncut Gems is fucking amazing). Then again it's kill or be killed, people don't go for romcoms and stoner comedies as much as they used to, they get their comic relief from superhero movies. But it does go to show how talented some people are when they're able to escape from being typecast.

Carrey has the same aura and positivity that Robin Williams had when he appeared on talk shows and segments like this one.
Jim Carrey is a national treasure and I just wish he stays with us longer than Williams did. Williams was my boyhood hero, and Carrey followed shortly after.

He really is a gift. So much talent he seems to bubble over sometimes. It's like there's too much crammed into one person. He's rare.

He's grown up with us over years and is an emotionally honest person both on and off screen, making him easier to connect with than people do with strangers, or sometimes even with their own family and friends. If you're feeling sad people don't connect with you like this, try being more emotionally vulnerable like Jim Carrey and entertain them by using your limbs as props.

He definitely seems a little star struk, I think Russell grew up idolising Jim there are certain similarities in their comedic style.

There is a reason for that, a good host understands that the interviewee should get the light. You can’t have 2 comedians trying to take the show, it won’t work, it will clash and be awkward, so one has to hold back. It’s like that between most comedians who interview one another.

@@Jason-yx7vt it's possibly not actually canned laughter, this show is sometimes filmed before a live studio audience and this interview were seeing right now would be playing the big screen on stage for the audience too, however I woudlnt be surprised if the shows go through edits and get laughter put in from earlier recordings

Russell's show is the perfect spot for Jim to be on rn. No regulations in exploration of thought and Mr Carrey's thought's flow high in the sky with angels. Has it's battles but the people around me who've achieved this level of self awareness are just like this, without effort.
