ACA520 has been my secret weapon since I picked it up in August.
With ACA500, 3D ONE, and ACA520, one can have a trio of polishes that can work on just about anything. All three utilize the unique formulations that I've only experienced from 3D, and their Alpha Ceramic Alumina abrasives.
I agree about the oilyness of 520. I'm that respect it's a lot like 3D ONE and AAT502. What I do to mitigate this, is load with four drops, and reload with two on a 5.5" pad.
I did have one car out of dozens that 520 wasn't able to finish haze free, and that was a 2017 GMC Sierra - black. I was using a white Rupes pad. I bet a black Lake Country HDO would have been fine. The blue Buff and Shine pads I use on my 8mm Porter Cable probably would have been fine as well. CarPro Reflect left worse marring that any of the compounds I used to cut (mostly Megs M110).
Where I position 520 is for ultra fine finishing. For on3 steps I will usually turn to something lime 3D One.

Really nice work on the Mazda! I recently gave 3D ACA520 a try on a paint enhancement, used a Buff and Shine green polishing pad, the paint was in good condition to start with, though the ACA 520 made it really pop, I would go as far as saying this can compete with Sonax Perfect Finish in most scenarios.

I second that request. I picked up a damaged hood from my buddy's shop and want to practice the rotary on it. Brian is my favorite teacher.
At Brian's suggestion I just did my son's new 2021 Blazer with this and Lake Country White polishing pads to prep it for ceramic coating and the results were spectacular. Mirror finish. No residue. Wipe off was just slightly less than ideal but still not a big deal considering some other polishers and compounds I've used over the years. 3D really makes great stuff.

There is a small, insane, part of me that is SLIGHTLY jealous of the medium and softer clear coats because they are easier to cut.
I have a 2020 VW Tiguan and the paint is like bloody rock!
Medium foam cutting pad and Sonax CutMaxx and the clear coat just laughed at it, and me, basically!
But I suppose that's the trade off for the fact that it doesn't mark up as easily.
I would prefer the harder clear myself.

Oh, how I wish you would be the detailer Devon Audi uses. In approximately 3 months I'll be picking up my RS6 and I will be cautioning them not to f*** up my paint before I take it home. You have given me the confidence to be able to properly take care of my cars. i used that knowledge to make my 12 yo E90 shine better than new.

The LC CCS pad is my favorite pad. Although, the yellow pad is the most aggressive pad. I prefer the orange and white pads.
Good to know! In the coming weeks (if we can have nice weather since I don't have a garage) I will attempt my first paint correction with LC CCS orange and white pads. I've been practicing in my basement with some old front fenders.
I LOVE ACA500. So I bought this product to do quick 1 steps before ceramic coatings!!!
Great product I have used it recently ✊I took my wheels off and used it on them. I used the Adams micro polisher for the face and spokes.Barrel I used the swirl remover from of course Adams.Enjoy Brian ✊

I've always liked 3D. There's a 3D shop in town where I live. But I'll be honest the clear coat just doesn't have as deep or as sharp of a gloss with these one steps or these 2 in 1's. But it is a fast cutting compound that finishes down quickly to a polish. Maybe what you can do is apply a 3 in 1 or a 2 in 1 sealant that does a little polishing for glossing the surface? These products seem to be made to do a job fast saving the customer money. But as a detailer you just have to do more cars. It just depends on what market you're working in? If you're doing a vette probably ain't doing a one step. But 3D has good products for mobile detailers. And that's what you need in the mobile detailing world is short working periods. You could 2 stage a high end vehicle as a mobile detailer. But like I said it depends on the market you're in too. A lot people don't have a lot of money. But a small car like that you might be able to get a paint correction done in about 3 to 4 hours. If you have a paint sealer that can finish out like a polish it might be a winner winner chicken dinner. Now the car is ready to for touchless car washes. Probably go even faster if you have a rotary if that 2 in 1 isn't a da or a hand only fluid. But that oily residue it leaves behind is good if you're working it in the sunlight. Need that extra lubrication in my opinion.
Hmmmm I use the 3D Att 505 Correction glaze infused with Monton wax. The replacement for 3D speed. But since folks were not told about the replacement they heard speed was being discontinued and they asked for it to be brought back. The 3D correction glaze is better than speed.
Can you review your polishers? Especially the Micro and cordless?

Great job as always Brian, you mentioned when using the cordless forced rotation that it was a 15mm throw. I believe it is a 8mm throw the finisher has the 15mm & does not have forced rotation. New products in the detailing world are emerging so quickly. But, just because they are new, does not mean that they are better. I am a DIYer. I used to hoard products and eventually tossed them, as some dried up and some also separated. Can you do a video on what chemicals to date you find to be very good?

That’s what I’m wondering as well!
3D ONE has more cutting ability but ACA 520 can finish out easy on finicky soft paint whereas ONE would require more finesse to finish out in some cases.
500 > ONE > 520 in terms of aggressiveness

Brian. I'm really at a loss to find information pertaining to polishing, cleaning boats. Modern aluminum fishing boats are, according to dealer, single stage paint. But the graphics on the boats are vinyl decals. Some may cover 50% of the boat! How do I properly clean them, and can I use a polish on decals? Can I use waxes or sealants? Thanks buddy!
Hi Brian, big surprise there, something already in my arsenal. Ive promised to treat myself to a new machine this year had thought about a cordless machine. The cordless flex (I think) you were using didnt look a 'natural fit' / balanced with such a big backend. It would be interesting (before I waste my hard earned) to understand your thoughts on the pro's & con's of a cordless Vs corded machines. Just a thought

Great video as always, where would this fit in with 3D one in the line up, which one would be best as a one polish solution with 2 different pads? Really looking for which will finish down best as I only have minor defects.
3D ONE sits between ACA500 and ACA520.
How many products don't make it on the channel as I have only seen one suck item the Zymol graphene and, has any company offered to supply your shop with only their products?
I have pointed out many products that suck including Zymol, all the Torq products, F1, the first gen Bauer polisher, Fusso Coat Mirror Shine, to name a few.
Yes lots are taken to the dumpster as well.
Another great video Brian! Odd question: I’ve been using LVR 403 and 404. Insane gloss when cured. If I were to put a 3-5 year coating over it, do you think it would last long enough or degrade underneath, and thereby botch the coating? I’d love to “lock in” that gloss but it seems like an expensive gamble.

Hey Brian, thanks as always for a well thought out and straightforward video...one quick question. Do you have any experience with ACA 520 vs Poorboys SSR-1? I have a bottle of the Poorboys and I've only barely started trying it so I'd still like to give it a proper go, but how would you compare that to the 520 you used in this video in terms of level of cut and/or ease of use?

- I we to get a lot of marring with SSR1. Decent product, but very old technology. You have to run it through it's cycle to break down it's diminishing abrasives.
ACA520 to me represents the latest, most cutting edge finishing polish. It utilizes non-diminishing Alpha Ceramic Alumina Abrasives. None of that matters if it doesn't deliver some serious gloss. You can short cycle it, etc, etc.
I have not tried this polish but have used Sonax Perfect Finish quite extensively... how would they compare?

Does heat from polishers exceed that of the sun? We get crazy 120°+ temps here in SoCal. I’m confused how heat from a polisher can stress the paint, but not heat from the sun. Is that something you can clarify?
The heat from a polisher is localized and rapidly increased.

Love your channel and content! Especially the tip at the end not to hoard polishes 😆. As an enthusiast with little experience, I need to prep my 6 month old 2020 Subaru Ascent for a ceramic coating and have Meg’s 110 and 210 and a 5 inch DA 15mm MaxShine polisher. I was planning to use only 210 since the vehicle is new and lightly driven. Is 210 close enough to this product that it would be redundant to acquire and use this instead? Or would you recommend something like Hybrid Solutions 1 & Done instead, which I also have? Thanks!
Tom , good question, if I may chime in since it’s a newer car, I’m assuming it has minimal swirls, I would wash, and chemical and mechanical decontamination , than go with MEGS 210with a polishing pad or you could use the HS 1 and done as well, just take a small area and apply to test to see see if it will be enough to remove the defects to your satisfaction, if the polishes work than go over the whole car, as you will preserve the clear coat with this less aggressive polishes and pads, That Ascent
is a nice looking SUV, don’t see enough of them on the road. Tom I’m sure you’ll do just fine, keep it looking new👍🏽💯✌🏾

@@abelcelestinjr8810 Thanks for your reply! I have a paint thickness gauge and don’t want to remove much clear coat. No swirls to remove, just want to optimize the paint for the coating. Good idea to test approaches, and perhaps I’ll try both on the top in the back of the vehicle, where it’s unnoticeable anyway. I was relieved when Brian showed how little is removed when using a 1 & Done. Really appreciate the encouragement, because i don’t want to make a mistake. 🤞🙏

Going to be hard to beat 3d1 in my opinion
It won't cut as much, but it will finish out better. Gloss is incredible with 520.

I'm a big fan of 3D One. Wish this video was made weeks ago, as I just purchased Xtreme Solutions Knockout, to take care of some deeper scratches. How is this product in comparison to Xtreme Solutions Knockout?
Knockout is a compound and ACA 520 is finishing polish, as comparison to 3D ONE ( which is a great all round compound that can finish well) with the right pads can’t go wrong with either in my opinion

Just keep the amount down, and you're golden. I used three pea size drops to do am entire Dodge Charger hood. Reload with one or two small drops.
Keep in mind that this stuff is formulated mainly for rotary buffers in body shops, and uses that lubrication to keep head down during that all important finishing step.
What has more cut 3D 520 or 3D one?

3D ONE cuts a lot more than 520. 520 is a finishing polish.
Hey brother once is splatters like that , which happens to be a lot with 520, how do you get it off of trim or plastic? I feel like once it’s there a few seconds it’s there forever.

Thoughts in relation to Perfect Finish? I’m a big 3D fan but also know Perfect Finish is a top notch product as well.
@@yanniobkirk5744 I agree, Perfect Finish dusts quite a bit compared to Koch Chemie M302 or Megiuiars M210, but it has that extra cut thats very good if doing one steps on softer clears you can get around 60-70% defect removal.
@@yanniobkirk5744 - PF also contains some non diminishing abrasives. Dusts way too much for my liking. I'd rather use Menzerna 2500 for something with similar cut/finish. I'm not getting the hype for PF....
Perfect Finish has more cut to it. More dusty, probably a similar finish. It's more of a medium cut, like 3D ONE, where 520 is a finishing polish.
@@yanniobkirk5744 - Jon at Forensic did a gloss reading of PF, and it wasn't even in the top spot.
It's a good polish, just not the be all end all.
For instance, I had to coat a Lambo Urus at the shop where I work, and the other guy that works there used my PF. He missed a couple spots, so I cleaned them up with 3D ONE. I couldn't tell a difference.
Maybe on a really soft clear we might see a drastic difference, maybe not.
I like it, but typically use the 3D or Menzerna.
The new Rupes are pretty killer too. Their new DA Fine actually reminds me of PF, with less dust.

3D Speed already contains Poxy. Wax doesn't layer on itself, so it's a waste of time and product to wax over Speed. Forum gurus recommend it, but at that point one might a well use a dedicated polish, and finish with Poxy.
