I just received my Wharfedale Linton Heritage speakers two days ago. Mine are the complete set with stands just like in this video, but mine are in the Red Mahogany finish. They are stunning beauties for sure. Even the stands scream top quality.
As background, I also own both the Wharfedale Denton 80th and 85th Anniversary Edition speakers and love them both. I have concluded that - FOR ME - the Wharfedale signature sound is my favorite sound signature in speakers. I love the warm and luscious audio blanket in which they envelop the listener ... beautiful, full, and musically articulate bass, lifelike mid-range and vocals, and incredibly smooth but very detailed highs.
Having said all that, the new Linton Heritage speakers from Wharfedale have taken the Wharfedale signature sound to breathtaking levels of audio performance. My jaw dropped at the imaging and soundstage these brought to my music - and they have only gotten better in the last couple of days as they have begun to loosen up. Seriously, the soundstage produced by these speakers, at least in my setup, is so fricking realistic and present that they brought tears to my eyes as I sat there and listened to them. I can't get enough of them. I am pulling out all of my music just to hear it on these speakers, everything from Jazz to Classic Hard Rock, from Orchestral to Blues, from Vocal to Progressive Rock ... it all sounds gloriously realistic through these speakers. I am playing old Gene Krupa, Charlie Parker, Duke Ellington, Art Blakey, Coleman Hawkins, etc and I just close my eyes as they play right in my room in front of me. But don't be fooled by those selections, as Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Humble Pie, Montrose, Thin Lizzy, Mahogany Rush, ELP, Kansas, Rush, etc all sound equally amazing through these speakers. I am also a drummer and thus I am particularly sensitive to the imaging and soundstage of drums in music. I'll just say that these Linton speakers present Ian Paice of Deep Purple in all his left-handed drumming glory, capturing every nuance of his finesse and chops. Very, very impressive.
Again, mine are not even fully broken in yet and they have me in audio ecstasy. The vocals, OMG the VOCALS ... it literally sounds like the artist is singing on stage right in front of me and I am right up against the stage!
I knew from experience and what I had learned about the design of these speakers that they would most likely be outstanding speakers, but I had NO IDEA that they could, or would, be this good!!!
Even though their ability to play low are outstanding all by themselves, I am now also pairing them with dual SVS SB3000 subwoofers because they also serve as my two main front speakers in my home theatre setup.
All I can say is that music (my main love and focus) and movies now fill my room with stunning realism and presence. I played the Blu-ray of "Jeff Beck Live at Ronnie Scott's" and I was in tears during some of the performances.
Amazing speakers and now my incomparable favorites. I look forward to hearing Tharmabar's more detailed review and impression.
    Thanks for sharing, Tharmabar.

Patrick, I’m glad you’re enjoying the Linton speakers. I bet Red Mahogany looks nicer as well.
I’m going to put 150-200 hours on them, as of right now they do sound very good with all music, thanks for sharing.

@@Tharbamar Excellent decision and can't wait to hear your further impressions. Mine are not completely broken in yet, either. It is almost scary how good these might sound after they are fully broken in. :-) I am so glad I purchased these as I am enjoying them immensely already.

I am really looking forward to your review of these beautiful Linton speakers. They look to be really great sounding speakers. I bought the Wharfedale Diamond 225 bookshelf speakers based on your review and really do love the way they sound paired with my Yamaha A-S801 amplifier. Thanks for all your great work reviewing these products. If your review is favorable I may just get a pair of Lintons too.

Any suggetions on how to remove the grill? Since i got my pair of speakers i wasn't able to remove the grill, it seems they are just a lil too deep into the speakers for my fingers to reach and really grab the grill. Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
I just bought a set of Wharfedale Linton speakers. And they sound amazing. Immediately I'm confused because I can't figure out which speaker is right or left.
In the package was the model that should be right, with the Wharfedale logo on the left side of the treble unit. Same with the package where the model should be left, here with the Wharfedale logo to the right of the treble unit. In both cases so that the treble is facing outward relative to the listening position is in the center.
I cannot find information on Wharfedale's website about the correct placement of the speakers.
However, several reviews on the web say that it is important that the Wharfedale logo is facing outward the treble unit as the listening position is in the center. So that the treble unit turns inward with respect to the listening position.
What is right and what is wrong? I have set up the speakers as the right and left speakers as described on the package. But WhatHifi among others describes it as the wrong set up.

Hey Raysayful - Peter Comeau recommends the tweeters are placed inward. But more important they are designed to be played with the grills on. If you have them setup close to each other then the tweeter out position also works.

I'm really excited about a proper audition video. For quality wise they look great for the price. The only drawback of the Whafedale speakers for me is that I wish they were used paper cone drivers for midrange unit instead of kevlar cones. Paper midranges are definitely better sounding.

I like the color and the satin finish, but they should have kept the wood veneer on the front. They also should have either put the pegs on the grilles or made the grilles magnetic.

This debate echoes the old east coast vs. west coast or AR vs. JBL debate of 50 years ago. The B and Ws may sound more "alive" or "engaging" at first but they are adding too much of their own personality to the music. This becomes tiresome and fatiging after a while. IMHO, accuracy wins out in the long run every time.

The connectors on the back are crappy. No biamp option. You do not need a boroscope/endoscope. Just remove the drivers and look inside to assess the build quality and the quality of materials in the cabinet and crossover parts(electrolytic caps? iron-core inductors?).

I don't get the fuss about this.. Is a Chinese engineer or worker supposed to be worse than a British one? People are different everywhere, a Wharfedale production in China is still a Wharfedale production. You either trust the name or you don't. Do you complain about where your smartphone is manufactured? That thing is a lot more complex.
