I saw the 2006 production too, the first return of SOUTH PACIFIC to Broadway since the original show. A condition that Rodgers and Hammerstein's granddaughters (who were executive producers) put on the show's revival is that they HAD to use a full orchestra, not the reduced bands that are the norm today. When the stage rolled back during the overture, the audience (who hadn't seen a musical with full orchestra in decades) went absolutely nuts.
