This was really meaningful stage to him. After throat surgey, he could not speak and make any sound for several months, and he spent this time fearing if he would be able to sing again or not. Right after recovery, he sang this song in the JP concert. His crying was the mixure of happiness, fear, relief, and joy. That's why this stage is emational. 😭💎😭💎

This performance is in the concert right after Onew's throat surgery where there was no guarantee he would be able to sing again, that's why it was an emotional performance for him. I've also read somewhere that the original singer of this song also had the same situation -he also had throat surgery that's why the song is special
Onew is such and amazing and versatile singer. His voice is so beautiful and clear. He sounds different when he is in solo and group. I suggest you to watch Onew - Nessun Dorma at SMTOWN. Its so AMAZING. and he is sooooo good at singing Opera
I'm gonna prefece this by saying that I love Jinki. He is my ultimate bias. His voice and performances are absolutely incredible. But I also love opera, and while he did great with little to no training, he isn't on the level of professional opera singers. I'm sure with actual training in this field he'd be one of the best, but with this performance you could tell it's not a genre he usually sings in. It's still really good for a pop singer just randomly dropping an opera song. Especially as it is in fucking Italian and he is Korean and speaks no Italian at all. He did it with ease and grace. I just think when people suggest it they hype it a bit too much.

Thank you for the reaction! Angelina sums it up but yeah this was Onew’s first live stage after having to go under throat surgery. He didn’t know his voice was going to be the same as it was before because he was left mute to recover for 3 months so he had that fear amd anxiety. In the end his voice recovered amazingly and even their vocal trainer said that his vocals improved. So yeah, it explains a bit about those emotions. The song it self was quite memorable as the composer Hideaki Tokunaga wrote them after going through similar surgery that Onew had.

The reason why the audience screams so loud and Onew cries during this performance of "Rainy Blue" is because this was Onew's first solo performance since having vocal cord surgery. It was a really scary surgery because there was no guarantee that he would ever be able to sing again, let along at the same quality as he did before the surgery. Onew spent about 3 months after his surgery not being able to speak at all in order to give his vocal cords time to heal, and then he had to learn to sing all over again. This performance was proof to himself and fans that he could still do it and that nothing had changed. Onew chose to do a cover of this song as his first solo after the surgery because the song is connected to everything he had to go through and it is really meaningful. As I understand it, the original Japanese singer had the same surgery as Onew, and he was never able to sing as well again. As I have heard Onew explain, "Rainy Blue" was so meaningful to him at this time because the song is about how the original singer had to give up something that was so precious to him, etc. The song is kind of saying how the world around him kept moving forward while time stood still for him during his recovery because of how hard it was to deal with the fact that he might not be able to keep singing. For the original singer, he kept chasing the happiness of singing but sadly his voice was never the same. Luckily Onew's surgery had a much better outcome than the original singer and it seems to not have had much of an affect on his voice. This performance is so memorable for Onew because this was is frist solo performance just 3 Month's after his throat surgery.He was so emotional because the original singer of "RainyBlue" also udergone the same surgery as him but the procedure was not successful that the singer can'not sing as good as he was before.So Onew was feeling emotional toward's this performance.He couldn't talk for a Month and even does speech theraphy,and the famous singer Kim Yeon Woo who take Onew as his own child offer to teach him how to sing again.So this is a very memorable and emotional performance for Onew,and so Taemin volunteer to acompany him by playing piano.❤

There is a story to this. Onew had to have vocal polyps removed. Then he could not talk or siñg for six months followed by three months of vocal retraining. Rainy Blue was written by a Japanese singer who underwent the same surgery and had to retire because his voice didn't come back. Rainy Blue was his first performance post surgery. When he stepped on the stage, he didn't know if his voice came back. If you look closely, you can see when he realizes that he can sing.
