- 'The Bird' is a factory just churning out TOUR Pros. Arizona State's training facility is state-of-the-art with everything a college golfer needs to take his/her game to the next level. Designed by Phil Mickelson, it includes wedge targets from 30 to 145 yards, greens at 1, 2, 3, and 4% slope, a bunker inside a green, and so much more. It's a wonder how they ever get the kids to leave.

This facility is absurd.. big respect
"This is not a place for 20 handicap players." Coach, I've been watching a lot of golf videos on RUclips. Soon, my 28 handicap will just be a number....
Finally ASU showing Pat Perez some damn love. About time.
beautiful facility.... I am sure that this is off limits, but I would love to stop by and visit this site
Oh my god, I would absolutely die to practice there!!
This is not for 20 handicaps line was a sad gut punch 😂
20 handicap facility video incoming, but it's just your local driving range
@@BreakingParTV one can only dream lol
For the first 99% of the video I was like man I want to try it. then I was told your kind isn’t welcome here and I was like damn, oh well.
Amazing absolutely stunning
Wow that view from the bay. Wow!!
That's incredible.
Huh, if i was a young top level golfer where would i go? Maybe a state of the art facility where the weather is perfect 9 months a year.
Amazing to watch
That is one amazing facility, the players are very lucky.
That's amazing, congratulations.
“In tournaments these days they have green books to read the slopes”
PGA - Am I a joke to you
Not any more
Just awesome.
💗Wonderful!!!
Wow 😯
That is pretty impressive. I like to come and practise at your range, it is beautiful.
Do they have a sleep away camp for adults? I would pay an inadvisable amount of money to spend a week here.
That’s a sick facility
Heaven won't be this nice!!!!!
oh my god this is so good
Oh the range is all artifical. If my initial reaction, i wondered what the upkeep was for mowing and watering. Makes sense.
Wow looks amazing! What are the dimensions of the different circles for the wedges?
I want this for Disc golf
"It's not built for 20 handicaps." Well, then, bug off! I didn't want to go there anyway! LOL Golfers' Heaven.
I’m only 12 and I’m a 7 handicap and I feel like if I keep working hard this might be where I want to go
So, just walk in “looking like I belong” and I can play,
Man we got this, just roll with it
Tho they probably check your handicap at the door. Doubt my 18 would fly
Actually, those are Dave Pelz wedge targets.Great facility for those young athletes.
Is this on or near the old Papago Golf Course? Amazing facility!
Yes
Unlimited.
Phil doesn't play. He quit school because they had recess...Simply amazing
What an incredible facility designed and built by amazing people.
Only drawback would be summertime is brutal!
I would love to hang out there for a week and work on my game.
Is it ever open to the public?
Definitely not
To each their own. Champions find a way to become great regardless of their resources. Tiger mastered his game on a basic range/muni course as a kid. This is a great facility and I'm sure it has helped many players improve. What is more important are the people! It all comes down to who the players and the coaches are. I will take a normal park with Butch Harmon over this facility and a mediocre coach.
Linn Grant brought me here.
4:25 which brand mats were installed?
This is what I want to know as well. I did some google searches but couldn't find anything about the hitting mats, I only found an article from a Phoenix company which installed the turf for the wedge targets (not the hitting mats).
The video says that Phil came out and tried several different brands of hitting mat materials; if I were a company I would definitely push a Phil Mickelson recommendation out to my potential consumers.
If you find out what type the hitting mats are, let me know. Thanks
Apparently Phli never practiced enough two foot putts
How much do they spend on education innovations vs the athletic programs?
But you wouldn’t remain a 20 handicap if you trained there
There’s no place I would rather shank my ball 50 yards right of the fairway
Wow imagine if a public facility could build this and charge fees
Reupload?
The Bird is so nice we had to give it it's own upload
So?
And now we know why thousands have massive college debts to finance. Need to pay for the sports programs.
This wasn't built with public money. It's got Phil's name on it he absolutely ponied up some big $$$ to get this thing built. If you want to talk about college debt it's because the feds guaranteed payback to the banks....there is no incentive for a university to keep tuition low anymore. Try thinking once in a while.
No doubt in a few years when the money runs out it will be open to the public and they can bank roll the kids again.
So I take it, Phil, is the top booster for this school. They speak as "they" built it, when we all know Phil probably gave them $20 mil.
coaches seem stuck up
spoiled af
Why is it call "The Bird" ? This is ASU, home of the "Sun Devils" The Bird makes no sense.
Short for Thunderbird
@@paulanderson3898 I know it is short for Thunderbird. Thunderbird is not a masscot of ASU. Should be at the very lest " Devil Golf Center" or something like that. They may be close to Thunderbird mountains I guess
@@twooldfartsinanrv7137 Thunderbirds are the exclusive - you have to be invited to join - charity group in the Valley that puts on the Phoenix Open (current sponsor is Waste Management). Very big players and very big partners with ASU. You can see their name and logo on the sign in the beginning of the video. Hence, "The 'Bird"....

I am sure having the men and women using the same facility is a big draw for top golf talent of both sexes. That Italian player practicing her wedges at the end of the first segment could be a model.
How many underprivileged kids will never be able to attend a university because of the ungodly amount of money wasted. I find this very disgusting.
To be fair though, this facility is probably 100% donor-funded, so it doesn't draw money away from ASU's educational mission. Also, ASU has one of the largest and inexpensive set of online courses of any U.S. university (and probably worldwide). They really do a great job at offering high quality online courses at one of the lowest price points of any large university. Here is a quote from a news story in 2020: "Nearly 54,000 of Arizona State University's students take classes online, about 39% of its student body. The number of students from historically underrepresented populations, including students who are Black, Hispanic or Indigenous, increased by nearly 9% (form the 2019-2020 school year)."
@@rayjones1455 thank you for the information.
I found at the end of this video very discriminating (this facility is only for elite golfers) yes it is but lots of golfers like to practice but don't have great facilities.
