The WNBA doesn't make enough money to sustain a best of four playoff series. Back then, the NBA had a best of three playoff series like the WNBA only in the first round. It ultimately boils to values of consumers. If it had a seven game playoff series now, the WNBA would lose more money than the scant amount it currently generates.
