whoa... i LOVED this bluray. I was surprised it was only 5.1, but i must say, it was the BEST 5.1 experience i've had in many years. I'd disagree with the 8.6, but 9.8. i've heard of the dialog issues - however, for me, i had absolutely no issue with the dialog. I expected to have problems due to the hype. i didn't even have to read the subtitles at all through the movie. (Yes, a couple high action scenes the dialog was harder to hear, but, it was supposed to be that way - as if you're in the middle of the chaos (explosions and such, and trying to yell over it.... But, in that case, it was not a dialog issue or a "mix" issue - that was the intention of the director.) (Note, im using Martin Logan LCR speakers w mcintosh amps / marantz pre/pro. / i have a database of DVDs, HD-DVDs, LaserDisc, and 4k/Blu-ray over 5k titles.) For me, this will become a REFERENCE disc for sound and video. I hope it gets re-released to theaters in the future.

I'm new to audio and trying to learn anything and everything I can. You said it's a 5.1 mix there are no overhead or anything coming from the rear. I understand nothing over head but why would nothing come from the rear?
Nice review! The dialogue and music is intentionally mixed so you won't hear the words clearly. It's not ideal for us mere mortals but I guess to Nolan, the emotional experience overweighs the dialogue
I just picked this up today without checking the specs. Kinda disappointed that this doesnt come with dtsx or atmos. Will probably returning it and wait for upgraded version later on….
I saw an interview where someone said Nolan purposely won't release his films for the home format in DTS X or Atmos just so that the home experience doesn't better the theater experience. Which is literally holding back technology for the end consumer !!!!
@UCQxBe5-KXilQwLSxINXu77g IMAX is 12 channels of audio, LRC Right & left surround. With 4 over head sound channels and LFE channel that's standard IMAX sound format. Those formats are purposely downscaled to 5.1 for home release.
Nolan's movies are great, but I cant see why he tries to justify/defend the dialogue audio in most of his films when the clarity goes to shit at crucial points in the film the drive the plot.
So the non IMAX sequences are in 2.39:1 not 2.20:1 aspect ratio? Since the non IMAX sequences were shot in 65mm, I thought they would keep the 2.20:1 aspect ratio for home releases.
Personally I had a very hard time engaging with TENET, unlike Nolan's other films. I'm glad so many of you liked it, I wish I could say the same for me.
If you're watching on a cinescope screen how do the IMAX shots work ? Do they go above and beyond the screen? So is it better to just get a 16 by 9 screen?
one thing. you said it was a 5.1 mix, and that it wont have any sound coming from behind you. so im lost on where the other two sounds are coming from outside of the LCR channels?
5.1 is LCR and two side surrounds. Your receiver can re-create a 7.1 soundfield if you set it up that way. However, traditional 5.1 was designed to create a surround field that covers the area behind you, above, and side stage - and blend w/ the L/C/R sound field - thus creating an enveloped sound stage. DOLBY and DTS updated the process by adding DISCRETE channels to do the same. So, for sure, sound will still come from behind and beside you if you have a 5.1 or above set up...its just not pinpoint objects moving in the soundfield. (In fact, if you have just stereo speakers properly set up, you can set your processor to "downmix" the side and back channels into the 2 speakers alone. Clearly not ideal, but even then, you'd get a nice enveloped sound field (again, as long as you set up your speakers correctly.) hope that helped.
Is anyone having an issue with the audio at around 50:50? I noticed the issue in my most recent screening at a GXL theater (Dolby Atmos) but never noticed it during IMAX or Dolby Cinema showings. It sounds like there’s supposed to be wind blowing but doesn’t sound too great. Using a Klipsch 450c for my center.
Wait, subtitles are not adjustable ? I mean that i rip my movies and use kodi on an nvidia shield and there you can do whatever you want with the subtitles. Move them in the middle. Change the size ect ect.
Movie was ok and only ok. I expected much more from Nolan, considering he made Inception. As it is beautiful and amazingly shot by Hoytema, it felt... Empty? It didnt have so much emotions like for example Interstellar or Inception and im shocked that it was made for 200 milions where the movie Upgrade made for 3 milion bucks blows it miles away.
Not sure I'll get the 4k disc. Might just stick to the tenet-y p blu-ray Just kidding, I've pre-ordered this, and glad to hear it's another impressive transfer of a Nolan film!
Me too, it is really sharp! Did you notice that they decreased the bass a little bit? It felt like they edited the sound mixing. I don't know, maybe it is just my system. Update: It turned out that my system's bass was set to low(Night mode), and holy shit Tenet is loud now. My house is literally shaking.
@@iHaCKeRXZ bro, it could be yours, but the thing that should consider also is the source, I've noticed some compressed mix will also affect your system on how to cultivate it properly based on the source, it means the untouched disc will generate a different and immerse sound then the compressed mix one.

Herd mix reviews on it is it worth picking up base not on quality of pictures but base on the movie 🍿
I’m on viewing number 5. I’m still missing stuff.
I saw this movie in 4DX in theaters. it was pleasent.
Is there a reason why the itunes Version of TENET dont have the IMAX Shots? The Ituens version is from the beginnig till the end only in 21:9 o.0
This looked and sounded great in IMAX. It’s a shame the film wasn’t that great. I’m still going to getting it on uhd/4K, though
Wait, subtitles are not adjustable ?
I mean that i rip my movies and use kodi on an nvidia shield and there you can do whatever you want with the subtitles. Move them in the middle. Change the size ect ect.
There's hard coded subs.
@@therealshanelee :O I hope they don't interfere with other language subtitles. This is nuts.!
It's 2.2:1 for the non IMAX scenes not 2.39:1
Why you didn’t show it on your screen. So I wanna see how imax look with 2.35 screen
200 million??? WTF did they spend the money on. The most expensive piece of shit I've ever seen!
Not sure I'll get the 4k disc. Might just stick to the tenet-y p blu-ray
Just kidding, I've pre-ordered this, and glad to hear it's another impressive transfer of a Nolan film!
Just watched the 4k remux, and this movie is one of the sharpest 4k’s i’ve ever seen
Bro if I get this right, the date release of tenet will be on 16, where had you got the 4k version.
@@daffamaulana6794 downloaded it, people already have the 4k bluray so they probably ripped it
Me too, it is really sharp! Did you notice that they decreased the bass a little bit? It felt like they edited the sound mixing. I don't know, maybe it is just my system.
Update: It turned out that my system's bass was set to low(Night mode), and holy shit Tenet is loud now. My house is literally shaking.
@@iHaCKeRXZ thats just your system. They increased the bass compared to the theaters
@@iHaCKeRXZ bro, it could be yours, but the thing that should consider also is the source, I've noticed some compressed mix will also affect your system on how to cultivate it properly based on the source, it means the untouched disc will generate a different and immerse sound then the compressed mix one.
